July DCC Model Railway layout Update 2022 (in September) including Rocco Z21 Controller upgrade Bluffers to Buffers Model Railway 2022-09-26 | No, your eyes/YouTube is not lying to you - we have managed to put together a sub-prime video pertaining to progress on our OO Scale model railway. Try not to get too excited... Firstly, let us address the fact that this is a July 2022 layout update, uploaded in the final week of September. Credit must be given that it is at least in the same year. It was filmed in July, it just took us this long to actually finish editing it. Excuses are aplenty and can be found within this very video. You are welcome to use any of these excuses as your own, all that we humbly request is that you donate a small sum of money to one of the other YouTubers that feels the need to charge you to be in a special club where you get bonus content. They need the money. As well as top quality excuses, you can also expect to find some fairly up to date footage of the layout, a terrible explanation of the Rocco Z21 control system that we are now using, and some fairly average footage of model trains running on said layout. After that concise description of this video, we quite honestly don't know why you wouldn't want to waste half hour of your life watching it!? Wiring a model railway layout for DC and DCC running #ooscale #modelrailway #hornby Bluffers to Buffers Model Railway 2021-05-01 | It's no secret that we've got quite a few locomotives here at Bluffers to Buffers. You could say it's an addiction, but at least we know we're not alone and that there are many out there who suffer the same affliction.Only problem is, our layout was conceived as a digital "DCC" layout. With the majority of locomotives that you purchase being DC or "DCC Ready".The further problem is that it's not a cheap hobby getting them all chipped up to run on a digital layout.It's a nice problem to have, but a problem all the same. Whilst there are controllers out there that will allow DC/DCC running, our Gaugemaster Prodigy/DCC Concepts setup doesn't allow that. So, as we are in the early stages of constructing the upper level, we thought we'd throw on the brakes and wire the two upper loops so that we can at least run our DC fleet around those when we feel like it.The conception was that it would be switchable between the two, but ensuring that there was no way the two could meet and, well, explode or something. So here's our guide to how we achieved it. Don't consider it definitive by any stretch of the imagination, but it works and it's relatively straightforward. OO Scale DCC Layout Rebuild Pt7 | DCC Concepts Alpha Central | How to control Peco 3-way points Bluffers to Buffers Model Railway 2021-02-02 | It's a little later than we would have hoped, but hey, life gets in the way sometimes. In this episode, though, we've got a bit going on. First of all we reveal the name of the lower station, as suggested by a YouTube viewer. Then you can find a fairly poor explanation on how Peco 3-Way points work. It's probably best to watch the video, rather than hoping that what we say makes any sense. Our layout has a few of these on it, in an ideal world we'd have used the Asymmetrical ones as specced by the layout designer - Neville Grove - however the great track shortage of 2020/21 meant we could only get symmetrical ones. After this we attempt to explain how we are switching our points to make life a bit easier with the storage yards. What more could you want?The layout rebuild continues at pace and in this episode we take a hearty-sized look at what we've been up to with our Neville Grove designed layout since you last joined us. If this is your first visit - it's deffo worth having a catch up as we've embarked on a massive project here. So, what have we been doing?The answer is, mainly, faffing about with trying to get locos to traverse the 1in30 gradient that transitions between the lower storage yards and the upper scenic section. We start with a bit of a test to see how many coaches one of our fussier locos can drag up the hill - the answer being not many.We then straighten some wobbly ply and move on to installing DCC Concepts PowerBase to try and assist even further. OO Gauge DCC Layout Rebuild Pt 5 | Hornby 28xx and 8F with DCC Sound and Professional Weathering Bluffers to Buffers Model Railway 2020-12-23 | Strap yourselves in as we amble through another 30 minutes of barely understandable nonsense vaguely relating to the rebuild of a OO gauge model railway.In this episode we, of course discuss the goings on at Redknob-end Junction. Which includes the completion of a lower-level storage yard and the inaugural run up the gradient which adjoins the lower level to the upper level. The gradient needs some refining, but we're well on the way to having completed the lower level (at least in terms of the track laying and wiring) and we're almost ready get cracking on the upper level. In case you are new to the channel, we're building a layout to a set of plans designed for us by Steve at Neville Grove - check out his website neville-grove.weebly.com and you might even spot our plans on there!We also have a brief run around the reversing loop. Our 9f (affectionately known as Garry with two R's) takes you for a ride from the summit of the gradient, through the lower station, around the reversing loop and back up the gradient. We'll take a look at the technicalities of the reversing loop in a later episode. Finally in this episode, we welcome to the layout two new locomotives. Both of them 2-8-0's, both of them have got DCC Sound installed and both have been weathered by, once again, Neville Grove. But in two very contrasting styles. On top of all this, we even manage a bit of running - which demonstrates the potential of this layout already as we have 3 locos running around their loops and another one traversing the gradient. Read on and we shall explainFirstly, we show you how we go about painting 1:76 scale figures. These little characters are kind of a big deal at Redknob End, and with the arrival of some top-quality Model-U figures, we thought we'd show you how we go about painting the little rascals. Then, we install Gaugemaster's WiFi DCC interface, which means we can now control our DCC trains from our iPhone using the WiThrottle app, as well as the main Prodigy controller. Firstly we get a OO Gauge diesel locomotive, weathered by The Weathering Works, out of a box.Then, we take apart said diesel locomotive without breaking it...We install Hornby's TTS Sound decoder AND upgrade the speaker to a Roads and Rails Megabass speaker whilst we are there. We have five of the rascals - if rascal is the right word to explain a Duchess? Though two of them are the same except one is weathered and the other isn't. These 18 minutes of your life will take you on a roller coaster of emotions as we look at the locos, discuss them in our own unique way, throw a few facts about, have a little running session then go our separate ways for a nice cup of tea. The potential for pointless stuff on our layout is now restricted only by our imagination, and maybe our ability to design the CAD files. So, if you're new to this, the vibe is that we are building a OO gauge model railway scrap yard using only stuff that we already have "in stock" from our main layout build. So far we've made the baseboard, laid the track, made it work, laid the ground cover, started on some back scene stuff, started on some actual scrap, made some excuses and generally blagged our way through. As with previous episodes, the whole point of this project is to build up a model railway scrapyard using only stuff that we already had in stock. Thus far we have purchased nothing specifically for this build. In this episode we are making a start on the back scene by using some Scale Model Scenery low relief warehouse ends, and we have made up our own low relief stack of scrap carriages - including a little how-to guide on making a carriage look scrap. We've also laid some ground cover at the far end of the scene and started putting up some more fences.
