[IN] Cop On Cop Anders / Carmack Murder Suicide Press Confference Cloud Writer 2014-07-06 | Two Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers left dead in a murder-suicide had a months-long domestic dispute, Police Chief Rick Hite explained. Hite said Sgt. Ryan Anders entered his ex-wife Officer Kimberlee Carmack's home through a patio door, shot her multiple times and turned the gun on himself. Anders took someone else's car to the home. IMPD discovered on Feb. 18 2014 that Anders and Carmack needed some attention, Hite said. An internal investigation began on March 12 because of their issues. That's when both of them were placed on administrative leave; they were both required to turn in their weapons. Both Anders and Carmack were provided assistance by IMPD. A protective order was issued March 31. The next day, IMPD turned over its investigation to the Marion County prosecutor's office for review. Hite said the department did all it could but Anders appeared determined to carry out the murder-suicide. He had been seeing a psychologist, and Carmack had been staying in a safe place. Hite says Carmack returned to the home against the advice of IMPD but Carmack's FRIEND says that is not correct. Carmack's son remains with IMPD. Hite remarked the department has reached out to him and other officers to provide support.

Police re-opened the case, now focusing on what type of person could have committed this crime.Investigators met this week, intent on making progress on what's been classified as Lansing's most notorious murder.Bernita White, a loving mother of two, killed in broad day light, as she and her daughter walked toward Potter Park Zoo. A single bullet, fired from a high powered rifle, hit White's left arm, pierced her heart and took her life on June 23, 2001."This is a crime that really haunts the City of Lansing," said Daryl Green, the captain of the Lansing Police Department.That bullet was never found and her killer still walks free. Now, nearly 12 years later, police continue looking for answers. They say they're taking a fresh look and coming up with new information to present to the public."We as police officers are out there doing what we can to investigate cases, but ultimately we need the citizens and the public to step up and that's what we're asking in this situation," said Lt. Kyle Bowman, MSP.Next Sunday, police plan to go door to door around Potter Park, handing out flyers, asking anyone if they have any information about the case, or know someone who matches their description.Police believe the suspect is a man around the same age as White, who's smart and has strong communication skills. They say he was organized, manipulative, professional, comfortable with the area and emotionally connected to White."We know that there's some critical information out there that someone has." [MI] TIPS SOUGHT IN DEATH OF BERNITA WHITE, WIFE OF STATE POLICE DETECTIVE Cloud Writer 2013-06-22 | Bernita White, the wife of a Michigan State Police Detective, was gunned down by a single shot from a high-powered rifle from about 100 yards away. Bernita and her daughter were attending a friend's birthday party at Potter Park Zoo in Lansing Michigan on June 23, 2001. The bullet pierced Bernita's heart. They were in the process of a divorce. It is not believed to have been a random shooting. Her husband has been referred to as a suspect and as a person of interest. He is still a sergeant with the agency. "Our family experienced an unbelievable loss," said Bernita's sister, as she asked people with tips to come forward. "Our tragedy doubled that day, when our mother Barbara Sims died from the shock of losing Bernita." Those with information on White's death are asked to contact by phone, text or emails.
