[HQ] Touhou FDF Part II - Extra Stage Boss Yukari - Iron Curtain of Human and Youkai
updated
Title: Dawn of Yatsugatake
Composer: 百灵猫neko
Composer's Comments:
A track originally used for the extra boss fight.
You can hear an attempt at imitating Soken's rock and roll...but I don't know how to use guitars at all, so what I wrote was meaningless and unclear.
So I didn't use it.
But, rock and roll style does fit boss battles very well, it's just I didn't do a good job. If I have the opportunity in the future I'll definitely try it.
Uploader's Comments:
Quite a different style than the rest of the tracks.

Title: Shinigami Girls ~ Dead Space
Composer: 百灵猫neko and 11
Composer's Comments:
This track was actually already completed in 2014 (This is why the track name is so chuuni).
This remix version was completed by 11 in July 2017.
Originally planned to use this in the Extra stage, but I felt like my 2014 composing skills just weren't enough, so I didn't use this track.
The rapid piano isn't bad though (?)
Uploader's Comments:
It still blows my mind that the composer made the first version of this (an 8-bit version that I might post later) when they were just a kid, because it's my favorite one of these unused tracks, by far.
11's arrangement of this is impeccable as well.
Maybe one day I'll make a little mini danmaku stage to this track.

Title: Shizuka Oukain Skirmish
Composer: 百灵猫neko
Composer's Comments:
Anyone who follows me should know that I'm a FFXIV player.
So originally I intended to imitate FFXIV's boss fights and make a skirmish theme, and use it during the stage 6 boss fight.
But to be honest, STG's don't fit that sort of setting, they really don't.
So I didn't do it.
Uploader's Comments:
The lead-in to the ZUNpet climax at 1:00 makes me so hyped

Title: Wabi-sabi of One Thousand Years
Composer: 百灵猫neko
Composer's Comments:
The first half is the same as the current stage 6 theme, with the second half chopped off.
Correct, this track is a full version of the first half of One Moment's Splendour.
It's quite a sorrowful track, my first impression was Mokou's 1300 years of loneliness.
Later I reassessed it...hm, this sorrowful of a track really doesn't fit such a stage 6 boss.
So I cut all of the second half. The reason the first half wasn't cut was because it still matches the atmosphere of winter quite well.

Title: Shrine in the Sky ~ acient legacy
Composer: 百灵猫neko
Composer's Comments:
Completed April 2018, original track is Min's "Shrine in the Sky"
This track is me blindly rearranging it.
In the beginning, this was to be used in Stage 5, since this track name was shockingly fitting for Elegant Impermanence of Sakura's plot, and this track really does sound very good.
Later I felt...using someone's track directly like this, really isn't that good, so I remade it.
Thanks to ZXBOLI for mixing the sound.
Uploader's Comments:
Unfortunately I couldn't find the original for this, but the climax is good.

Title: Island in the Sky Devoid of Celestials
Composer: 百灵猫neko
Composer's Comments:
Completed March 2018, originally used as the Stage 4 boss battle theme.
It really doesn't sound that good (how straightforward).
春虫岚's Hidden Star in Four Seasons drums are not bad.
Otherwise, not much here.
Uploader's Comments:
Best part is the last verse and the outro. Definitely not a style that fits Hisoka so I'm glad this was replaced, but it's a nice theme.

Title: Fourteen Years of Imperishable Night
Composer: 百灵猫neko
Composer's Comments:
This name was given because this stage has infighting between the protagonists, and when this was composed, Imperishable Night had been released for 14 years (now 16 years).
This track was originally planned for use as the Stage 3 theme, completed March 2018, a few months before I took the Gaokao.
At the time I really liked Misora's tracks...the initial inspiration for this track was his Ridicule Rondo ~ sneer of woods.
A lot of places in this track should have that track's feeling...probably?
But, I added Touhou's main melody, because Imperishable Night's Stage 4 protagonist infighting also uses it in the stage theme.
This portion was kept in the track in the full release, but the rest...is here.
Uploader's Comments:
Now 20 years, lol. You can definitely feel the DNA tying this with the eventual final stage 3 theme.

Title: Autumn Mist of the Human Village
Composer: 百灵猫neko
Composer's Comments:
Completed July 2017, and my first Touhou-style original track
Various aspects are very immature.
Originally intended to be used for the Stage 1 theme, with the Human Village at dusk nearby.
But 神风 rejected it with a "Kaguya has no reason to go to the Human Village".
Uploader's Comments:
I just love Neko's way of combining Touhou vi-vii-i with a simple piano melody and merging that with trumpets. She says it's super immature but like this is pretty great for someone's first Touhou-style track. My first attempt probably wouldn't sound this good.

Title: All Hail Lady Oukain
Composer: 百灵猫neko
Composer's Comments:
Shizuka Oukain's alternate theme, for use during peaceful time
Originally, we decided that after the player cleared Normal difficulty, we would change the Menu and Title Theme...but we didn't have time for any of it.
So this track could only go into the unused tracks.
Uploader's Comments:
This sounds like an encounter theme you'd hear during the dialogue.

Oh and bombing and dying reduces your power rank by 1 too, lol.
What this meant was that if you end a hyper in the wrong place, or bomb or die in the wrong place, you could very quickly throw yourself into a low-power spiral.
Eventually, v1.3.0 was released which nerfed all of this by making power rank essentially irrelevant. Ranks 0-3 were your regular shot, and Rank 4 was your hyper shot. Also the penalty for bombing was halved to 3 gem fragments (0.5 power rank).
I'm not actually sure whether any patterns got nerfed in v1.3.0 but doesn't seem like it, most of the nerf was the power system and other shot-side balance changes.
I realized my lunatic 1cc was in v1.3.0, so I went back and got one with v1.2.1, the last version before the nerf. It took a couple tries, again often due to a single mistake that sent me into a spiral. Still fun though and still one of the GOAT fangames.

This team usually doesn't announce or tease things until they're pretty much ready, so my speculation is that this game will release within 3 months, probably. Maybe March at latest, which would be fdf2's 6 year anniversary oh god it was that long ago??

I used my phone's selfie camera to record this, and I didn't recall it being so bad, so oops the video quality kinda sucks.
Why the dolphin? Because there was an empty spot, nothing more :P If you think he's cute, follow our dolphin Instagram at dumpleandfriends.
Though it is fun when I'm playing well, and the music is sounding better the more I listen to it.

- Interesting system, pretty good patterns, alright music.
- Difficulty is quite high, if the full version keeps it up this could take the crown of hardest fangame shmup from DLW.
- Didn't realize this was made in Danmakufu until i was finished. Very impressive technical work.
- Have you seen a stage 3 boss with 10 spells before lmfao.
- Some of the effects are a bit over the top, but good thing you can cut a lot of them in the settings
- Probably one of the best Western fangames out there, already.
Steam: store.steampowered.com/app/3138090
I'll save the technical details for a blog post or something, but the goal here is to produce a single stage and boss script a la Touhou Fantasia, in my own custom engine.
I'm hoping to get a beta or something out in time for the Bilibili Touhou doujin creators event, which runs until October 13 or sometime around there, so I have about a month to grind. No pattern design has been done yet and also a lot of infrastructure is missing, particularly for bosses 😬. So I probably won't make the deadline, but it's good to give myself a goal.
The assets are from Ryannlib.
Here's the code if you're interested: git.sr.ht/~williewillus/thdawn
Pretty forgiving, though the system is kind of static for scoring since nothing increases your PIV besides the yellow items.
Also is it just me or the vtuber team (Wei and Rola) is ultra broken good?

I recently learned that Danmakai has a funny anti-piracy mode that buffs the game's difficulty.
The first three stages start out fine then it gets more unhinged in the latter half, you get this extra enemy firing additional patterns, and also between stages you start having to play this card matching game. I think some patterns are also buffed, or at least have more HP.

Pretty interesting patterns and balancing, you're forced to use the release system and bomb if you want a chance of survival.
The handling feels a bit off though. Seems like it's a custom engine made in GameMaker so that's probably why. Music doesn't feel very special.
I swear Reimu deals negative damage, feels unplayable.

This is the Sequel stage, the third bonus stage. Cleared on the third attempt I believe.
I feel the same about this stage as I do the rest of the game, which is that it looks nice but feels overtuned and not memorable at the same time.
Also it's 2024 why does danmakufu still lag whenever it tries to load something. Why can't we load everything into memory ahead of time, we have the RAM for it now.
Capturing the final blind was funny.

Patterns are pretty tight, but the music isn't too great and people have complained about visibility (but I found it fine).
System is a mix of HSiFS and UVoI, I'd say. You build up gauge by grazing, speedkilling, or canceling. Pressing C consumes the entire gauge to cancel bullets and gain item rewards. Doing a release at the current max level will increase the max level.
You can also hold X to charge up a powered-up bomb at the cost of your gauge, but this run doesn't demonstrate it.
Sanae and Reimu are probably the best shot for newcomers. There's no A or B shots in this game, you just press shift-Z to switch between the two shot modes.

I should really invest in some actual monitoring gear, my pulse is kinda all over the place. Oh well.
I hope you enjoy!

This is my live introduction/reaction as I'm playing the game for the first time.
It's an UM+HBM-like fangame. Kill enemies and collect their drops to level up, which will let you pick a buff from a list of options.
The ring around your portrait in the top left is your health, bottom left is your bomb, which charges up over time.
Chaos in the bottom right is analogous to rank, the higher it is the scarier things get. Various buffs or debuffs may manipulate this value.
There's also a luck system, but I didn't get much into it.
Outside of a round, you can spend gold to level up your character as a whole as well as their bomb. You can also spend any offering orbs on these gacha-roll things.
There's probably more to discover, but I wanted to show this so far. Unfortunately, it's not translated so unless you understand Chinese or are willing to Google Lens everything it might be hard to understand what's going on (or you could go in without translations and try to survive that might be fun).

At least for now until someone else takes it.
Scoring on easy is just
- spam UFO's on the stage and feed them
- graze nonspells
- capture all the spells
- don't die because then the boss will drop more power items instead of point items
Bombs are worth 10m clear bonus so I probably should have kept the bombs for clear bonus instead of using them for measly PIV gain. Whatever.

It's a UFO-inspired single-stage script with four difficulties, commissioned by and promoting a Chinese VTuber called Syrena.
It was actually kinda hard, which is nice because usually Seiwell's games are a bit too easy, each difficulty being about half or three-quarters a difficulty easier than the corresponding maingame difficulty.
In this game, each difficulty corresponds pretty well with the maingames' difficulties.
Each shot type is pretty much equivalent damage wise I felt. So on that footing, homing Reimu comes out on top as you can dodge to the side and still be able to capture spells (for example, the midboss spell is much harder as the other three shots).
Buy the game for only a couple dollars here: store.steampowered.com/app/2628190/__Ultimate_Fatal_Octopus
Notes:
Stage: Pretty self-explanatory. Use UFO's for bullet clears where able.
Midnon 2: The bubbles in this game seem bigger than past Seiwell games. I make use of homing Reimu and just stream across the screen
Midspell: As homing Reimu you can afford to go to the side once or twice and still capture the spell, but the other shots probably have to stay in the middle.
Non 1: Watch out for the wave of small bullets that don't change into petals. The last phase of this attack reminds me of something but I can't quite remember what.
Spell 1: This is kinda spooky, but alright after some practice. I would make minimal movements.
Non 2: Just follow the lane
Spell 2: Fortunately, the homing amulets only focus on the boss and not the UFO's
Non 3: Pretty simple, but I got spooked this time
Spell 3: Somewhat random, not sure of a good place to dodge this one yet.
Non 4: You can spin this one. Start on the left of her on odd waves, and on the right on even waves. I forgot and messed up since I got into the wrong gap.
Spell 4: Just dodge
Non 5: Just dodge
Spell 5: I hate gravity spells so I hate this one too. Try to route it like I do so you can move purely horizontally for the flower waves.
Non 6: Not sure if this one is spinnable. If not, Just Dodge at the bottom.
Spell 6: Static (or mostly static)
Non 7: Just dodge
Spell 7: Just dodge. The yellow bullets move slowly and might surprise you if you let yourself ignore them.
Non 8: Focus on the small bullets not the butterflies
Spell 8: The butterfly wings are really distracting, try to focus only on the bodies which are the actual hitbox.
Spell 9 (survival): The first half is kinda nuts and the bubbles can straight up wall you. Second half is just standard misdirection around the field.
Spell 10: Raw dodging. My game was stuttering a lot on this spell for some reason, but otherwise it's pretty reasonable.

Have been idly trying this over the past week, but was feeling super good today and miraculously managed to clear.
Like 5 different places I should have died but didn't, but managed to only waste like 3 bombs or so throughout the entire run.
A miracle I had enough spirit gauge to pick up the life before the final spell lmao.
Not sure why some of the sprites are glitching, might be a bug in the latest Wine.

Not sure how I want to route the latter half of the stage yet
This game is so hard........
I probably also have a mental block about it being hard, which doubles the pain.
30x as stressful as any other mainline game because once you die once with bombs in stock it's pretty much over.
I decided to start posting my music covers on my main channel, because it's a hassle to switch channels and no one seems to be caring that much about the second account. Sorry if you're only here for Touhou gameplay, feel free to unsub.
This is a short and sweet cover of the insert song from episode 12 of Apothecary Diaries, Flower in the Snow, on Chinese flute. A very similar song also appears in episode 24, it's just this song with parts rearranged and different lyrics.
Chinese instruments use a numerical notation where 1 is Do, 2 is Re, 3 is Mi, and so on, so that's why the score might look a bit different.
There aren't many covers of this song around on the internet yet, so hopefully I can be one of the first! Enjoy!

Playing this route requires a pretty good grasp on the game's systems to get extra lives, because some of the stages are brutal.
Apparently there's a TLB if your BASE stat is 900000, but I didn't get there.
Unseen 1 theme is a banger
Stage 3 theme is still a banger.
Next up would be Advanced Unseen, but I think it's out of my ability's reach :P Maybe later.

I actually had a run before this one that died on the final attack, and that was because I had dropped the stage 4 1UP lol.
UFO's the only traditional Touhou STG I have yet to lunatic 1cc, so I'll begrudgingly get back to grinding that probably.
The boss has wack hitboxes everywhere. Just shot spam by mashing Z so things die faster.
...But the music keeps drawing me back in LOL.
Himorogi Burn in Violet's chorus with all the bullets on screen really hits different.
Lunatic is too nuts for now, I'll save it for after extra.
Marisa fight is nuts and takes forever.
The game's a lot more fun with more bullets.
Novice Ultra sometime soon?

Pretty easy as long as you don't die with bombs in stock.

It's fairly easy to get consistent, since I suck at this kind of stuff and I still got to around 20% consistency on it. Showcased on ultra and should work on all difficulties.
To position yourself, put Misty's lower left dress corner right where the upper right tick in the character 戏 ends. The tick should only overlap the dress every so slightly, any more and you'll be too low. The safespot is pretty much pixel perfect (if it isn't, the leeway is very small).
When the music begins, start counting the beat: 1-2-3-4. This should be easy to latch onto since the "chime" bullet firing sfx plays on beat 1. You want leave the safespot and go up and to the side on beats 3 and 4 of the final moments of the spell. You shouldn't move on beats 1 and 2 because the glow bullets spawned are still in a tight ring around the boss and you can't move without ramming into them.
Going up and right is probably better than going to the left as I did in the video, because the lasers end up high on the left when the spell times out.
