That’s right, because for the first time in the 25-year history of the GT3, it’s being offered with back seats. It’s only for the Touring, but that addition alone will be enough to start The Internet chattering about whether this is ‘all the car you’ll ever need’.
However, if kids, or at least taking your kids with you, isn’t your thing, then worry not. The back seats are merely an option, and the non-Touring GT3 can’t be had with them at all. Plus, if you’re the sort of Porsche purest who hates weight, you can double down on that ethos with either a Weissach pack for the GT3 or a Leichtbau (aka Lightweight) pack for the Touring.
As for what else is new (and there are a lot of detailed, GT3 RS-inspired changes) then join Top Gear Magazine’s Associate Editor Tom Ford, for an in-depth walkaround of both new GT3s with Andreas Preuninger, Porsche’s Director of GT Cars…

It’s a once-a-decade occurrence, the LaFerrari having been revealed way back in 2013. That car was Ferrari’s first hybrid, with the electrically boosted V12 powertrain pumping 963hp to the rear wheels. Eleven years on, there’s more electrical assistance, more power, more driven wheels, much more aero, but fewer cylinders…
So, how does the new Ferrari F80 move the game on from LaFerrari, and stack up to its predecessors? Over to Top Gear’s Editor-in-Chief, Jack Rix…

And now it’s back, because Renault is cleverly plundering the back catalogue to give its new wave of affordable EVs the retro-design treatment.
We’ve already had the 5 supermini, a new Twingo arrives in 2026, and the pair bookend this, the 4.
Think of it as a dinky little crossover, to the 5 what the Renault Captur is to the Clio. Prices should start under £30k in the UK, the range is around 250 miles, and the personalisation options are plentiful.

Looking a lot like the VW XL1 (remember that?) the Robotaxi has no steering wheel or pedals and just two seats. As the name suggests, its crisp flat surfaces and full-width light bars have more than a passing resemblance to the Cybertruck, too.
This, then, is Musk's vision of a grand autonomous future, and he promises the Robotaxi will be in full production by 2026, with prices starting from $30,000.
A fleet of 20 fully functioning prototypes were built to run around the Warner Bros. Studio lot – the venue for Musk’s big reveal – and take passengers on short, obstacle-laden routes. Top Gear duly hailed one, so join our Editor-in-Chief, Jack Rix, for a first ride in the new Tesla Robotaxi…

Well, almost, as this is technically the Alpine A390_β, the ‘_β’ signifying it’s the concept car that foreshadows the real thing. That, and Alpine are at pains to only ever call it a ‘sport fastback’, never an SUV.
Nonetheless, it is a five-seat crossover aimed at the Porsche Macan and the Tesla Model Y, and Alpine promises that the exterior design is 85% true to the production car we’ll see in 2025. That, and although the interior is all show-car silliness, we know the real A390’s powertrain will consist of three electric motors, with one at the front and one for each rear wheel. Might there be a little A110 handling magic in there too?

In 2023, Top Gear put hypercar royalty Christian von Koenigsegg, Gordon Murray, John Hennessey and Mate Rimac together in a room and hit the record button for an epic ‘Boss Chat’.
A year later, we’re back for the sequel, and we’ve upped the ante by asking each of the bosses to bring along their company cars for the others to have a go in.
Sonoma Raceway in northern California was our venue, and in Part One it’s the track session for the world’s fastest CEOs. Over to Top Gear Magazine’s Ollie Marriage and Ollie Kew to referee…

However, is it worse elsewhere? See, it’s now a hybrid. Which means although official figures put emissions at just 29 g/km of CO2 when it’s simultaneously the most powerful road-going Bentley ever, there’s added weight. And Bentley’s Conti GT was never in the bantamweight class to begin with. Call it two and half tonnes now. So, although power is up to 782hp, is it now a less sporting, less dynamic driving experience?

It was conceived when Aston was purely a Formula 1 sponsor, and designed with a little help from Red Bull and its soon-to-depart design genius Adrian Newey (who’s actually joining Aston’s own F1 team. Small world!). And while the Valkyrie has numberplates and headlights and a windscreen wiper, it’s about as single-minded a hypercar as there has ever been.
Can you really use it on the road? Or is that marketing fluff?
To find out, we set Top Gear Magazine’s Contributing Editor Jethro Bovingdon the onerous task of spending days and days in a £2.8m Valkyrie…

Are you a fan of the OG 2.7 RS? Or on the side of the 997-generation GT3 RS 4.0? What about the 911 R? That’s leaving aside all the race cars, too.
And then there’s this, the 911 S/T. Built by Porsche (in limited numbers) to celebrate its 60th birthday, it mixes GT3 RS oily bits with GT3 Touring discreetness to give us, effectively, a successor to the 911 R.
We already love it after driving it on the road (which is where it was designed to be) but can it stand up to being thrashed on track? And if so, where does that leave it standing in the pantheon of Porsche greatness. Over to Top Gear Magazine’s Head of Car Testing, Ollie Marriage, for this most arduous of tests…

To date, it’s mainly been cars coming from Gordon Murray that have had fans: first his Brabham BT46B Formula 1 car; then his seminal McLaren F1 (did you know it had twin fans?); and most recently the T.50.
But now there’s a new car that uses fans to devastating effect: the McMurtry Spéirling.
It weighs 1000kg, produces 1000 electric horsepower, and the fans can spin at up to 23,000rpm to generate 2000kg of downforce from 0mph.
You may know it from its record-breaking run at the 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed, where it smashed a McLaren Formula 1 car’s time that had stood since 1999. Now though, it’s been to the Top Gear Test Track, to be put through its paces by Top Gear’s Head of Car Testing Ollie Marriage…

This then, the Theory 1, is concept car to grab your attention when times are tough. The company’s next production car will be a second, smaller electric SUV (think Porsche Macan-sized) so the Theory 1 is a kind of reminder that people at Lotus are still thinking about what it means to be a Lotus, past just wearing the badge.
Thus the Theory 1 does everything from ushering in a new design language for Lotus, to showcasing a radical approach to production with just a handful of materials used for the bodywork.
It also introduces us to ‘Lotuswear’, which is an attempt to ‘evoke a sense of raw emotion and pure excitement’ when you’re behind the wheel of this 1000hp electric supercar. How does it work? With seats that can inflate on one side or the other and a steering yoke that can suddenly be ribbed, thanks to textile-based wearable robotics tech being applied to the automotive sector for the first time.

To prove his new cars were the best, he wanted to take them racing. Specifically at the 24 Hours of Le Mans – and so he designed his road cars to mirror FIA GT1 regulations. In parallel, he developed a racing car too, taking his optimised road car as the basis and readying it for battle at the world’s greatest endurance race.
But, sadly, before it could turn a wheel in anger, the rules changed as homologation production numbers for the GT1 class jumped from 20 cars over several years to 350 per year, putting an end to Koenigsegg’s Le Mans ambitions. The project was mothballed, and the car sold to a Koenigsegg shareholder.
However, the one-off CCGT prototype was auctioned in the summer of 2023 (for £3.3m. Imagine if it had raced at Le Mans…) and has been back to Christian and co for some restoration work. It’s now ready to hit the track once more and, whisper it, a regulation quirk might even mean it can finally race at Le Mans…
Over to Top Gear Magazine’s Head of Car Testing, Ollie Marriage, and a certain Christian von Koenigsegg, for the full story…

A 1578bhp twin-turbo 5.0-litre V8 is partly to blame, and with carbonfibre keeping the weight down, not much blunts the performance either. Then there’s the downforce, up to 1400kg of it, which means the Jesko Attack is not merely fast in a straight line.
Clearly, we needed somewhere suitably proper to test such a car, and that place is our very own TG Test Track.
This then, is the £2.8m Koenigsegg Jesko Attack, unleashed in the (sweaty) hands of Top Gear’s Ollie Marriage…

The appeal for families – because no single person is buying one – is sleek Swedish styling, a plethora of computing power to protect your precious ones, and the knowledge it rolled out of a climate-neutral factory with a chunk of it made from recycled materials. No tailpipe emissions, either.
And yet, EV sales have faltered since the EX90 was unveiled in late ’22, and Volvo has stumbled too, delaying EX90 production from early 2024 to late ’24 for additional software development and testing.
Still, it’s with us now, and only has to best the likes of Tesla, and electric SUVs from all of the German brands, to get ahead. No small ask.
Is the Volvo EX90 up to the task? Over to Top Gear Magazine’s Head of Car Testing, Ollie Marriage, to find out…

The new Vanquish is a very different machine: with an extra 80mm in the wheelbase purely for beauty’s sake, an 835hp bi-turbo V12 rubbing Ferrari’s nose in it, and a new carbon-skinned body that – for once – looks noticeably different to other Aston Martins in the range. Heck, you’re paying north of £300,000 for one of these. That’s the sort of bespoke treatment you expect.
Top Gear Magazine’s Ollie Kew is here to walk you round the exterior details, interior features and then ask the big question: on first impression, has Aston built a better V12 super-GT than the Italians?

Hence the Nevera R arrives, with 15% more downforce, 10% less understeer, and 100% more attitude. Anyone else seeing echoes of Lamborghini Aventador SVJ in that tri-support rear wing? Can you see an echo? Never mind.
Naturally, the R gets more power: new motors mean it’s up to 2078bhp, and good for 0-186mph in less than nine seconds. But is that enough to make hypercar collectors giddy for electric, when they could have a V12 or even a V16 instead? Join Top Gear Magazine’s Ollie Kew for a closer look inside and out…

The huge overhaul comes courtesy of Fifteen Eleven Design, an offshoot of Mellors Elliot Motorsport, a UK motorsport firm better known for prepping and building top-level rally cars.
Underpowered and not enormously successful in its day, this 914 has been treated to a host of more modern Porsche mechanical bits, including a flat-six engine that puts out around 400bhp. Add in a bespoke carbonfibre body, and performance is somewhat of a step on from the original!
We sent Top Gear Magazine’s Associate Editor, Tom Ford, to find out more…

It drives pretty differently too. Not least because the 3.0-litre Nettuno V6 now has new, bigger turbos, a new intake and a different exhaust system for a total of 730bhp.
All that power is sent to the rear wheels through a six-speed sequential gearbox and limited slip diff, and the MCXtrema only weighs around 1,300kg thanks to a liberal use of carbon fibre and the fact that there’s only one seat as standard in the race-spec cockpit.
Each of the 62 cars will be completely unique in its spec, costing just under £1 million. Not that it matters too much, because of course they’re all sold out already…
So, what's it like? Over to Top Gear’s Contributing Editor Jethro Bovingdon to explore the new MCXtrema on track...

It’s street legal, and for what’s almost certainly a seven-figure sum, you can have one of the few examples that Tuthill plans to make. But there are a couple of critical options you must choose between – namely, do you want a seven-speed twin-clutch gearbox, or a six-speed manual? A 4.0-litre naturally aspirated flat-six related to the 911K’s screaming engine that develops around 500bhp? Or a twin-turbo version that kicks out more than 600bhp?
Tuthill says the GT One was born out of a chat between company boss Richard Tuthill and one of his clients, Elliot Ross. What would a modern-day GT1 car look and drive like? Can it still be pretty while incorporating FIA-spec crash-worthiness and road legal measures? Apparently so. Very much so.
Over to TG's Deputy Editor Ollie Kew, who spoke to company boss Richard Tuthill at The Quail Car Show in America….

But there’s now a new, third-generation Duster – and might it have ideas above its station? It’s been styled, for a start, can be had with a hybrid powertrain, and comes with a bunch of electronic safety kit the brand previously eschewed.
To put it to the test, we took one to Morocco. In part because Dacia has a healthy share of Moroccan new-car sales, due to its French ownership and the country’s former colonial status. But also in part because, just as the new Duster is a somewhat different from what went before, so is the Dacia brand. It’s even getting into motorsport, the Dakar Rally no less, and with amazing coincidence, testing in the Moroccan desert during our visit was Dacia’s new Sandrider racer.

For the sentimental of you with cash to splash, the choices are plentiful too, from Porsches, through old Jag E-types and Land Rover Defenders, via a load of newly electrified offerings, up to the likes of rally specials and even an Aston rejigged by its original designer a couple of decades on. Now though, we might have the restomod to top all restomods…
It’s the Eccentrica Diablo, a £1.3m scissor-doored sculpture based on the wide and wild Lamborghini Diablo of the 1990s.
The Diablo is perhaps the ultimate epitome of the Lamborghini brand, and the promise of a restomodded one that keeps all the original’s theatre while ironing out its, ahem, idiosyncrasies, was all we needed to hear to pack Top Gear’s Associate Editor, Jason Barlow, off to Italy to learn more…

But fret not, for this is Lambo’s take on hybridisation. So, while the Huracán's naturally aspirated 5.2-litre V10 has been swapped for a mere 4.0-litre V8, it has gained twin turbos and over 150bhp in the process. And, just for good measure, Lamborghini has allied it to not one, not two, but three electric motors, for a 907bhp total.
That, and compared to the now-defunct V10, the forced-induction V8 revs higher. To the tune of 10,000rpm! Still want that six-cylinder McLaren Artura or Ferrari 296 GTB?
There’s plenty more to uncover, too, so Top Gear Magazine’s Associate Editor, Tom Ford, is your guide to this new ‘baby’ Lambo…

Which, if you’re a parent, or a practical person with a ‘lifestyle’, means this could be all the car you’ll ever want. And if you’re not one of those, then the wobblier estate body and lack of a carbon roof might mean you think the Touring is destined to only ever be a worse version of an M5 saloon.
Either way, we haven’t had a big-booted BMW M5 since the V10-powered, E60-generation model, and with all the obvious rivals dead or dying out, there’s a rather large gap in the market for this new 717bhp über-estate.
So, what chance does the M5 Touring have at greatness? To find out, Top Gear Magazine’s Deputy Editor, Ollie Kew, has been in a studio with one, while Editor-in-Chief, Jack Rix, has been driving a prototype…

For Sasha Selipanov, it’s creating his own hypercar: the NILU.
This otherworldly wonder is a carbon-tubbed, V12-powered monster, with little to get in the way of the raw driving experience.
Which could be quite something, given the promise of a manual gearbox, rear-wheel drive, and that naturally aspirated 6.5-litre engine screaming out 1070hp at 11,000rpm.
But the remit of the NILU is to offer an unfiltered assault on all your senses, at all times, something Selipanov sums up as the “holy **** factor”. Meaning the exterior and interior design is as full-on as the design of mechanical hardware, with a stripped-back cabin, and an engine bay that clearly took one look at a Lamborghini Revuelto’s exposed V12 and said: “Hold my beer”.
In short, this is one is for the purists, so we sent one of those, Top Gear’s Contributing Editor Jethro Bovingdon, all the way to California, USA, to learn more…

But don’t think aero only matters now because EVs are obsessed with range; all the way back in the 1930s, Audi’s Auto Union forebearer was obsessed with streamline racing cars.

As with all Singer’s restoration services for the Porsche 911, the process takes the 964 generation of rear-engined, air-cooled cars as its starting point, but the big news on this one is an evolution of the ‘Mezger’ flat-six, now in 3.8-litre from and featuring twin turbochargers.
Owners can specify 450bhp or 510bhp, paired with a manual six-speed gearbox, and personalise their car’s character towards grand touring or sports driving as they wish. But whatever their preference, the gorgeous, bespoke carbonfibre body remains, as does Singer’s exquisite attention to detail.
It celebrates the iconic Porsche 930 Turbo, which so happens to be one of Tom Ford’s all-time favourites, so we sent Top Gear Magazine’s Associate Editor to test this reimagined version…

Fittingly, this new Mk IV is a track-only, pseudo-race car, of which just 67 will be built, at a price of $1.7m each.
It shares its carbonfibre chassis with the GT road car and 2016 Le Mans-winning LMGTE Pro race car, but the brakes are new, the ‘longtail’ body is new and the EcoBoost V6 has been enlarged to 3.8 litres. Together with new turbos and a host of other engine changes, peak power rises to a plentiful 800bhp.

Now, you might scoff at our headline, but Porsche will cease production of the combustion-engined Cayman in the middle of 2025 and the replacement will be electric.
Moreover, MG has already stolen a march on Porsche by getting the electric Cyberster roadster into production well ahead of any Boxster BEV.
That might be again true with the Cyber GTS: we’ve yet to see any Cayman BEV prototypes testing, but this MG concept has parking sensors and wipers, clues that this is essentially a production car in waiting.

Now, a McLaren P1 drift car would have been silly enough, but ‘MadMac’ (as it’s affectionately known) fuses a P1 body with a 650S GT3 carbon chassis for the added protection of the latter’s roll cage. Oh, and then whatever McLaren V8 you were expecting has been ditched for a turbocharged, triple-rotor set-up. Peak power is close to four figures…
Myriad other changes have been made to get it drift ready, so here’s ‘Mad Mike’ himself, plus Lanzante boss Dean Lanzante, together with Top Gear’s Ollie Kew, to give you the full lowdown…

Sure, this £5m, track-only spaceship has the likes of a blown diffuser and Newey’s favourite Formula 1 engine configuration (a naturally aspirated V10) but the RB17 is instead what happens when Newey isn’t trying to find loopholes in restrictive Formula 1 regulations. The RB17 is what happens when Newey is unleashed!
The result, the mind-blowing result, is a car (very rich) mere mortals can buy – and one that can lap a racetrack as fast as a contemporary Formula 1 car.
Behind Newey is the might of Red Bull Applied Technologies, the sister company to Red Bull Racing that uses the F1 team’s know-how and applies it to wider engineering challenges. As a calling card to show their expertise, the RB17 is quite something.
But enough of us telling you about it. Instead, here’s the man himself, interviewed by Top Gear’s Editor-at-Large, Jason Barlow…

Only this Ford Capri isn’t how your dad might remember it. Because before, from the late 1960s through to the mid ‘80s, the Capri was a coupe, sort of Europe’s Ford Mustang.
And now? Well, it’s an SUV crossover. An electric one at that. And it’s not even really a Ford.
Let Top Gear Magazine’s Associate Editor, Tom Ford, explain…

And, while the Ariel Nomad 2 might not look all that different from the collection of scaffolding poles and raised suspension that was its predecessor, only the steering wheel, fuel cap and pedal box are shared with the original Nomad.
That’s right, even the engine has changed, no longer one of Ariel’s go-to Honda motors. Instead, it’s the 2.3-litre, four-cylinder, turbocharged engine from the Ford Focus ST. Which means not only more power, but more torque. A LOT MORE.
Sounds like our kind of car. Over to Top Gear Magazine’s Head of Car Testing, Ollie Marriage, to find out more…

And yet, amongst all this, he said “yes” to a request from a customer who wanted their older-model Agera RS melded with the best bits of a Jesko and CC850 to create an absolute one-off.
Many engineering headaches later we have this, the Chimera, which blends an Agera RS with the 5.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine from a Jesko and the fiendishly complex manual-cum-automatic gearbox from the CC850.

In-between (though still very much at the expensive end of the scale) we have these two: the £1m Aston Martin Valour and the £231k Porsche 911 S/T.
The Valour pairs a manual gearbox with Aston’s twin-turbo 5.2-litre V12 for the first time, and those mechanicals are clothed in retro-inspired carbonfibre bodywork. Just 110 will be made, at £1m-plus each.
As for the Porsche, you can look at it either as a 911 GT3 RS with a manual gearbox and without that wing, or as a GT3 Touring with the wick turned up. Either way, it marries an epic engine that revs to 9,000rpm, with a manual ‘box and lightweight clutch.
There’s still life in the ol’ stick shift then! And so, we sent the Aston and Porsche to some rather nice roads, together with Editor-in-Chief Jack Rix and Deputy Editor Ollie Kew, for a little celebration…

Why, it’s to give the new Polestar 4 (which sits in price and size between the Polestar 2 and 3 – go figure) no rear window whatsoever.
It’s rather anti-dog, but that feature – together with a silhouette that’s more raised saloon than lowered SUV – does help the Polestar 4 stand out against electric rivals.
But is it enough to challenge the likes of Audi, BMW, Mercedes and Porsche? Top Gear Magazine’s Associate Editor, Tom Ford, has been to find out…

There have been many changes from the virtual Vision GT to IRL Solus GT and – from our point of view – they’re all good. The biggest and most pivotal is the switch from the familiar McLaren twin-turbocharged V8 (plus make-believe electric motors for the front wheels) to a pure rear-driven configuration with a naturally aspirated 5.2-litre V10 engine that revs to 10,000rpm. It produces 829bhp – or 858bhp with a ram-air effect at higher speeds.
Beyond that, the tub is carbon fibre, the suspension is double-wishbones all round and, oh, did we mention it’s a single, central-seat layout?!
Just 25 Solus GTs will be built and, of course, they’re all sold, at north of £3m each.
Over to Top Gear’s Contributing Editor, Jethro Bovingdon, for a taste of the billionaire lifestyle at the glorious Circuit of the Americas racetrack, in Texas, USA.

Why, he teams up with a couple of buddies to solve the thorny issue of autonomous ride-hailing services of course.
Enter Verne, a new company that Rimac and co. have founded to: design and build a fully autonomous electric vehicle that offers Rolls-Royce levels of luxury; to re-envision ride-hailing apps with added personalisation; and to create the infrastructure that keeps these ‘cars’ clean and charged and running nearly 24/7.
Now, you might scoff, but the rise of Rimac (both that of the company and its founder) has been meteoric, going from unheard of Croatian start-up to a supplier of batteries and motors to the likes of BMW and Porsche. Mate himself is now CEO of Bugatti, too.
Will Verne be another homerun for Rimac? Has it stolen a march on Tesla’s forthcoming robotaxi? Top Gear’s Associate Editor, Tom Ford, has been to Croatia to find out…

Yes, Paramount+ has announced that the all-new series of TG Australia – featuring an all-new line-up of Blair Joscelyne, Beau Ryan and Jonathan LaPaglia – is now available to stream in Australia.
The eight-part series sees Blair, Beau and JLP hitting the road in Australia, and in many places that aren’t Australia. Highlights include the trio testing out the Ferrari 296 GTS, Maserati MC20 Cielo and Pagani Huayra Codalunga on an Italian road trip, tackling a coffee run across the Colombian jungle, racing the new Lotus Eletre from Monaco to St Tropez against a very expensive boat, and taking on the wintery Alps in the Porsche 911 Dakar, Aston Martin DBX707 and Brabus Superblack 900. There are worse jobs.
Back home, the presenters will be putting some of the finest, fastest new cars – including the Ford Mustang Dark Horse, Porsche 911 GT3 RS, and Toyota GR Corolla – through their paces out on track. And, of course, going head-to-head in a bunch of knackered second-hand cars, bought for a very small amount of Aussie dollars.
Want to see more? Well, thanks to Paramount+, you can watch a full sample episode right here (it's episode 4, since you asked) and then head to the following link to stream the full series paramountplus.com/shows/top-gear-australia

The first signs appear promising for this new-gen M5 too, with a twin-turbo V8 powertrain offering 717bhp and 737lb ft, plus an updated version of the switchable M xDrive chassis tech, which offers sensible 4wd, rear-biased 4wd and showboating rear-drive.
But… the M5 is now a hybrid. Which brings a power boost – as the V8 alone is good for only 577bhp and 553lb ft – but also some weight gain. Okay, a lot of weight gain, as this isn’t a new Porsche 911 GTS-style small battery, fast discharge/fast recharge set-up. Rather, it’s a plug-in hybrid with a 22.1kWh battery and an EV range of over 40 miles. Before there’s a driver onboard, it’s 2,435kg…
So, can it be any good? Alongside time in an echoey studio with a static BMW M5, Top Gear Magazine’s Deputy Editor, Ollie Kew, has also been behind the wheel of a pre-production prototype. Over to him…

For the new Tourbillon, Bugatti once again settled on 16 cylinders, but this time they’re in a ‘V’ configuration with not a turbo in sight. Displacement is a monster 8.3-litres, it’ll rev to 9,000rpm, and make 986bhp and 664lb ft before you add in 789bhp of electric assistance via three e-motors.
The new V16 is engineered by Cosworth, the same British company that’s recently created V12s for the Aston Martin Valkyrie and GMA T.50.
So, how does it differ from those two, and more importantly, how does it sound at full chat on a dyno? Over to Top Gear Magazine’s Tom Ford…

CEO Mate Rimac toyed with a hybridised Chiron and even reskinning his own electric Nevera hypercar, but in the end settled on an all-new car…
Praise be, for what a thing it is! The engine is a naturally aspirated 8.3-litre V16 that’ll rev to 9000rpm, and together with three electric motors, the hybrid powertrain pops out a stonking 1,775bhp (or a nice round 1,800PS). It will be limited to 277mph – but don’t bet against a top speed record attempt in time.
The interior is, perhaps, even more special, taking a leaf out of Pagani’s book for delectable details, with the exposed workings of the intricate, incredible dials giving the Tourbillion its name.
That’s just the headline stuff though, so sit back and join Top Gear Magazine’s Editor-in-Chief, Jack Rix, together with Bugatti boss Mate Rimac, for an in-depth tour of the £3.8m Chiron successor…

Built by HWA – who are Mercedes AMG’s behind-the-scenes secret weapon in the world of motorsport – it’s not a lightly tickled-over plaything. Instead, it’s a proper ground-up restoration that even involves HWA building new front and rear subframes for it. Out too, goes the original four-cylinder engine, replaced by a 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 putting out somewhere between 450 and 500bhp. So twice as much as the original then! The bodywork is wilder too, the chassis is completely upgraded, and if you’ve got a spare £700k you might just be able to get one of the 100 being built.
Meantime, if you’re lucky to be young enough not to remember the original ‘Evo II’ in its prime, it first appeared at the Geneva Motor Show in 1990, as a homologation model for Merc’s DTM (aka German Touring Car Championship) efforts. Just 502 road cars were built, while the race car of the same name won the DTM drivers’ and teams’ titles in 1992. Motorsport pedigree? Tick!
