The inner workings of the PSU on the Laser200 RAM card from Arctic Retro KOJRO Retro innovations 2023-09-21 | Slightly off topic, as this is an analog repair. I got this memory card in the mail from my friend Tommy over at Arctic Retro. He started to repair this card, and the symptom was that the -5V and possibly the 12V was missing on this card to supply the 4116 memory chips. There is a separate PSU part of this card, that is a power supply that converts a 9V DC supply to 12V and -5V.I go a bit into the theory and the inner workings of this supply, but a real in dept deep dive into how to make a simple Switch mode it is not. Another Dumpster find, the 11.3 Inch LCD Touch monitor. KOJRO Retro innovations 2024-09-06 | Another dumpster find, and this is a strange one, the production date indicates that the journey from China happened in a hurry, then it took bounce towards north and it went straight to the dumpster afterward. Normally things actually either goes through a cycle of use, or at least a loop through return and warranty if It does not work. The time spent from production according to the sticker indicates that the total life of this unit was just 70 days before I picked it up from the dumpster..This dumpster often has some good stuff, and it’s kind of private, and under a roof so thing are well protected.We test it, take It apart, and do some fact checking.#DumpsterFind #electronics #ElectronicsRepair
We take on another C64, and don’t dare to blame everything on the PLA ! KOJRO Retro innovations 2024-08-25 | This is another C64 repair video, but as usual, we try to squeeze in some useful information, even though the fault finding process on this one was rather short. The symptom or fault on this one was blank or black screen, and as usual we don’t scream PLA when we see that. We also look into testing power supplies.I really love to do work on the C64, and I have yet to meet one that I could not repair, even though some of the ones with broken tracks and where someone has ha a go before me could be a challenge. This was a 466 board, and it’s my favorite C64, as it was the last one to officially hold an old 6581 SID instead of the newer 85 version. ( Yes I know, as always with commodore, there are exceptions )The supplier of the power supply are http://www.retropowerpsu.com and I would advice you to ask for a swap unit if it measures as bad as the one here. Evaporust, the movie, or at least the Norwegian blend ! KOJRO Retro innovations 2024-07-26 | In the summertime I like to get my hands dirty and I do all kind of handy man stuff, (or in some cases not so handy). I do some metalwork. I do some car repair jobs. I do some wood work, both on the house, and some smaller stuff. I even do some gardening and general property maintenance. But most of all I use tools. I have collected tools all my life and have encouraged my kids to borrow and use the tools even from kindergarten age. And both me and my kids are much more eager to use them, than to put them back. So I have got å lot of rusty tools over the years, and back when I was a kid I also have encountered a lot of rusty tools out on my uncles farm in Lofoten. So over the years I have collected a lot of experience with rust removal from tools. Not to get them pristine and as museum pieces, but to get them back to working order, or as good as they can get.Some years ago there started to appear videos on the internet about a revolutionary way of removing rust from tools, and that first wave was electrolysis. That I have tried in the past with sometimes good result, but most often I have had to use some more brute force or acid in addition. But then I saw the Evaporust demonstrated. Here was this stuff that you could put your hands in, and still it removed the rust at record speed, and with no other bad effects on the metal. The C128, Ep7, There is always a new problem, we fix the PSU, and test more the Arctic Retro Board. KOJRO Retro innovations 2024-02-19 | This is the seventh episode about the C128, and we again revisit the 128 DCR board from Arctic Retro. We left this last week in a state where we wanted to use my DCR to test the floppy electronic, and of course nothing goes as planned. I have covered many Commodore computers on my channel, but some are missing in action. But we are trying to fill the gaps. This time around is the C128, and there are several overlapping incidents that together made me do this priority. I could of course just set up a C64, or an old Atari and just start up a game.. But what will be the fun in that.. Games for fun, who has ever heard of such a concept. No, we do it the hard way by wiring up a joystick tester on a piece of Perfboard, and we leave enough room on the plate to be able to extend on this if the need should arise in the future. Is the ZEEWII DSO2512G scope god enough for what we are doing at KOJRO Retro Innovation? KOJRO Retro innovations 2023-12-27 | I used this scope for the first time in my Christmas Calendar series (link Below), and I have had it on the shelf for about a year. I have other scopes, but they kind of drags me down when I do videos of my fault-finding process. The Scope meter has low contrast, and the Rigol is best at static images, The analog scopes is difficult to film without a fixed camera. (Just to get the bickering done for today) This can solve both problems, It has an analog Composite video output, and it gives good contrast if I just keep it in the picture on the bench. This is just a simple review up against my requirements, and you should look at what others say before you buy. I am in no way affiliated with this product, and I have paid for this with my own hard-earned bucks. There are many that try to show you how to fix the dying NAS’es and other stuff that is left dead in the wake of the C2000 disaster, but I have not seen anyone really try to explain why this happens, The things I present here are normally from 20 up to 50 years old, if it's not tools to help repair the old stuff. But from time to time I do sink into other kinds of stuff. Some of this I don't make video's about, but other times such as this I think that this might be of interests to someone out there. Please make a comment below if you want more videos on more modern stuff, I can't promise a lot in that regard because some of the modern stuff is so badly documented that I straight out find no interests in it.. My way is to think first, and swap later, but with much of the modern stuff it's swap first, and think later... I did look for the manufacturer of this product in dept by studying the mainboard. I did not at all consider the possibilities of an all through vendor that makes it’s own hardware from bottom up.. The Commodore 1702, Part 1. We are blowing some fuses in our attempt to get info about this classic. I do have some more in the pipeline, but when it comes to monitors you need to have the available desk space. Not only because the monitors take some space, but you need to really take a serious view on the safety. If you don’t have the space, you might create unsafe situations where you touch the high voltage parts, and when you have kids running around the danger can be even more real. So this is work I normally do down in my garden shed! This is not my monitor, but I promised a viewer that I would take a peek at it and see what I could find out.
