We are beyond words - Paper Garden Riikka Kovasin 2023-12-07 | A process video showing me create an art journaling spread using Paper Garden printables and a mix of mediums.I start by attaching pieces of printables to my journal and then add a layer of clear gesso on top. After the gesso has dried I then add some brown, tea colored ink on top with a wet brush. I also add some "tea cup rings" using the bottom of a spray bottle as well as some splashes. After drying I then add some stamping and stenciling to the background. Next I start the actual composition using different printables. I ink the edges of those and then cluster them together using a stapler to attach the layers. I then mount the clusters to my journal using foam tape. I finish the layout with some alphabet stickers and small cut out elements.Thank you for watching! Holiday Cheer - a set of cards Riikka Kovasin 2023-11-30 | A process video showing me create a set of Holiday cards using stamping, masking and gel printing. I start by cutting some card bases for the cards. I then create masks using the stamps I also use as focal points. I stamp the images also to my center pieces. I cut the masks loose and add them to guard the stamped images and then use small gel printing plates to add a colorful background to each image. I'm using a color palette of classical Christmas colors - red, white and green. After printing I then color the images using inks and a wet brush, some oil-based colored pencils and also paint markers. I finish the cards with some sentiment strips and epoxy dot stickers. After filming I also decided to add some black splashes to the cards to match the black sentiment strip and stamp ink.Thank you for watching! Festive season is knocking - a FB recording Riikka Kovasin 2023-11-26 | A recording of a Facebook live kept at my blog's FB page on November 17th. The topic was to make a little festive door with a wreath and self-made snowpaste.During the live I made a little door using cardboard and corrugated cardboard. I painted the door with a chocolaty brown and then added some frost on top using an Oxide ink. I colored the little paper doll using watercolor pens and added metallic touches to some of the embellishments using waxes. To make the snow paste I mixed heavy gesso with pearls in two grain sizes. I finished the piece with a torn cardstock piece to add some snow to the bottom of the make. I start by cutting some card bases and layers upon it. I then start making some mixed media touches to the background using inking, stamping and stenciling. After the crackle paste I used has dried I then start making the composition on top. I use a little tags as the main element and make the cluster fuller using cut out elements from Paper Garden printables. The focal point I place on top is cut from a birthday invitation I have received several copies of. I ink the edges of the elements. White Xmas - a FB live recording Riikka Kovasin 2023-11-19 | A recording of a Facebook live kept at my blog's FB page on November 10th. The topic was to make a Holiday easel card with dies. The live was kept mainly on my native tongue, Finnish.During the live I made a card with a little space to put a tea light behind the front. As the front has a vellum window, the card then lights up. I started by making the pieces for the card and then cut the window to the front and added a vellum piece behind. I inked the edges of the window first. I also used the inks to add some color to the die cut trees first with splashes and then by inking the edges. I start by cutting a base from a patterned paper and then add the first layers using washi and fabric tape. On top I then add some dye stain crystals and wet the materials. After drying I then layer another patterned paper on top, this time using torn strips and then a stenciled dimensional layer. After some stamping I then start building the composition using die cuts. Frosty morning - a set of cards Riikka Kovasin 2023-11-09 | A process video showing me create a bunch of winter cards using KateCrafts printables as well as Sizzix dies and some mediums.I start the cards by cutting the card bases out of kraft cardstock and then layering elements out of printables. I then add some frosty or snowy touches to the bases using white embossing powder and acrylic paint. I then turn my attention to the clusters themselves and create a backing for the focal point using a piece of printable and a playing card styled element. Its beginning to look a lot like Xmas - a set of ornaments Riikka Kovasin 2023-11-02 | A process video showing me create a triplet of Holiday decorations using wooden bases, inks and crackle medium. Before filming I treated the frames of the bases with white crackle medium so they had time to dry and crackle. I then start the process by highlighting the cracks with some ink. I then collage a piece of patterned paper to the centers, stamp some pine cones and color them. After cutting those loose I then add an inked layer to the background and start making the composition. I use a heavy body gel medium as my adhesive. I make the clusters using the stamped element, vintage photo, a resin candle, faux plant and a piece of corrugated cardboard. Quilting drama - an art journal spread Riikka Kovasin 2023-10-26 | A process video showing me create an art journal spread for a small spiral bound journal. I'm mainly using acrylic paints, stamps and paint markers in this make. I start by adding some acrylic paints on top of a piece of cardstock randomly. I use three colors and partly let them mix to have even more colors that way. I use the same colors also to color the stamped portrait of a lady and then stamp another layer on top. This is my favorite way of coloring - I can boldly go over the lines! I use stamps also to add a pattern to the background, which I then go over with a paint marker and add a grit design also to mimic a quilt. I add some stitch lines with the marker, too. Next I cut the stamped image loose and add more paint marker doodles to the background. I finish the spread by attaching the pages to the journal, mounting the lady with a piece of patterned paper added to the page and a journaling made using text stickers. Thank you for watching! Winter birds - Paper Garden Riikka Kovasin 2023-10-19 | A process video showing me create a pair of winter cards using Paper Garden supplies.I start by cutting elements out of A4 sheets. Some of those I use as layering elements, but I also cut the focal points and the bases. Several of the sheets I'm using are from older Paper Garden kits, but there's some recent printables, too. I then add some snowy touches to the backgrounds by using white embossing powder with two stamps. I add some blue ink on top like watercolor. I then layer the cut elements using a stapler to attach the layers together and then mount the focal point on top using foam tape. Autumn feels - FB live recording Riikka Kovasin 2023-10-16 | A recording of a Facebook live kept at my blog's FB page on October 14th. The topic was to make a little mixed media project with an autumn vibe.During the live I made a little assemblage using gesso in a couple of ways. I start the project by using gesso as an adhesive and primer. I then use it also to make texture and while the thicker layer dries, turn my attention to embellishments. I use gesso to turn the transparent embellishment to better fitting to the busy background, prime some chipboard shapes and also add texture to them in another way. I use watercolors to add color to the background and some of the embellishments. I make a printable sturdier by mounting it to a piece of cardstock and add texture to make a ground yet in another way using gesso. When I have the elements done, I then put everything together using foam tape and craft glue to adhere everything in place. Toadstools and peonies - A.B.Studio Riikka Kovasin 2023-10-12 | A process video showing me create an assemblage for A.B.Studio. I use a chipboard frame as my base. I'm adding a piece of patterned paper inside the frame and building the composition on top later on. I make some stamped elements for layering - a couple of toadstools and a bunch of leaves. I use embossing powder to cover those and watercolors to color. I color the frame of the piece with acrylics, add crackle paste on top and when it's dry, add another color on top highlighting the texture and grooves. I use heavy body gel medium to build the base for the composition and then use regular craft glue together with foam tape to make a dimensional composition on top. ...we thought she was lost - a small assemblage Riikka Kovasin 2023-10-05 | A process video showing me create a small accordion styled piece for Halloween. I start by covering sturdy pieces of cardboard using patterned cardstock. I adhere the pieces in place using double sided tape and then ink the edges. I also treat some chipboard windows with embossing powder and ink those. I attach the three cardboard pieces together using fabric tape, creating little hinges to fold the assemblage accordion style. I add some stenciled pattern to the background as well as splashes and rings. I then mount the windows in place, add some black splashes and also a cut piece from a bigger Halloween styled die cut. I use two paper dolls as my focal points and decorate the center segment with some die cut roses. The secret of the moon - a mixed media canvas Riikka Kovasin 2023-09-28 | A process video showing me create a mixed media canvas I titled "The secret of the moon".I'm using the canvas in reverse as then I get an instant frame. I start by adding some texture to the canvas center using stencils and modeling paste. I treat the frame part using crackle paste and then start the composition in the middle. I use heavy body gel medium as my adhesive and make a composition using wooden, metallic and moulded elements. I then let the project dry before adding colorants. I paint the frame using liquid acrylics and add a layer of black gesso to the middle as the first layer. I then add blue paints on top, turning the middle part into an inky night. Next I paint the focal points white and add a glistening glaze on top. I also add some dry brushing to the background to make it look like the elements would have a glow. Suomi Finland - a FB live recording Riikka Kovasin 2023-09-24 | A recording of a Facebook live kept at my blog's FB page on September 22nd in my mother tongue, Finnish. The topic was to make a couple of ATCs using gel printing, inks and die cuts.During the live I made a pair of ATCs. I started them using gel printing and brayered two colors one by one on the plate and pushed the card bases to the paint. I also added some acrylic paint splashes to them. I then made some self made "washi" by using double sided adhesive sheet, white tissue paper and stamping. I later colored the piece using inks and then cut it to strips. I inked the edges of the bases, adding a touch of vintage that way. I also stamped some text running around the edges by using a piece of scrap paper as a mask. I then put the slide frames together with a vintage photo. I also used the brown ink to tone down the ready, very colorful die cut flowers and attached them to the bases using a stapler. Just create - an art journal page Riikka Kovasin 2023-09-21 | A process video showing me create an art journal page with a vintage vibe using Sizzix dies.I first cut a bunch of elements for the page using Sizzix dies. I cut a piece fitting inside my journal from a patterned paper and then start treating the cut elements. I first ink the slide frames and a little folder. I then assemble the folder and add vintage photos to the slide frames. Next I turn my attention to the cut flowers and color them using inks. I also use the same inks to add some colors to the background. I then start making the composition starting with the bigger elements and moving towards the smaller ones. I finish the page with a cut prize ribbon. I'm mixing different collections in my make.I started before filming by cutting several elements loose from the 12x12 sheets. I also chose the background piece and then cut it smaller to fit inside my journal. I tape the two pages together so the background continues seamlessly over the binding. I add some paint to the background and the two paper layers running from edge to edge. After that I mount the backgrounds to my journal and make the composition on top to both of the bases. I start with the bigger elements and then embellish with smaller ones. Strolling with bats - a FB live recording Riikka Kovasin 2023-09-11 | A recording of a Facebook live kept at my blog's FB page on September 9th. The topic was to make a little mixed media easel card with a Halloween vibe. During the live I made a Halloween inspired card using inks, paints and dies. I started by making the night-like background using masking and inks. On top I then added some stamping, then texture with a crumbled piece of tissue paper and then pearly shine. Life is a grand adventure - a pair of cards Riikka Kovasin 2023-09-07 | A process video showing me create a pair of cards. I'm playing with a Fabrika Decoru collection, which has the same print in black and white background. I start by cutting a big floral out of the patterned papers and also the background pieces from black and white background motif. I then paint one chipboard frame black and other white - following the theme of doing the cards the same way, just with a different color scheme. I then add the frame and the floral piece in place. I then take a little detour of stamping a bird and mounting it on top of the card only to remove it in next stage. I wanted to show that bit, too, that sometimes the process isn't a straight line. I'm drawing inspiration from the background paper and turning those flat, depicted layers into dimensional ones. I start by cutting the card bases and stamping some flowers to be used as decorations in later stage. I sew the background to a framing piece and then start adding mediums on top. I adhere some printed tissue paper to the background using white gesso and add some acrylic paint, too. I color the flowers with watercolor pencils and add touch of acrylic paint as well. Christmas story in July - Paper Garden Riikka Kovasin 2023-07-27 | A process video showing me taking a headstart to Holiday card season. I'm using Paper Garden supplies in these.I start the cards by mounting a pink printable on top of cardstock to make it sturdier. This sets the color scheme of the cards and I go for a gingerbread glazing, candy colored look. I then use a red ink a couple of ways - first to stamp with, then with a stencil and then to color modeling paste to pink. I make the focal clusters using some labels and tickets together with beautiful angel pictures. I attach the cluster layers with a stapler. To make the composition fuller, I add some rolls made out of vintage paper underneath the cluster. I then embellish the cards with printed, cut out florals, a tiny tag and a sentiment sticker. Angel of a guiden silver star - FB live recording Riikka Kovasin 2023-07-23 | A recording of a Facebook live kept at my blog's FB page on July 15th. The topic was to make a little mixed media decoration using wooden bases, gel printed tissue paper and golden details.During the live I made two little angel or fairy decorations. I started by collaging a sheet of gel printed tissue paper on top of a wooden shape. While the collage medium was still a bit wet, I added some gold leaf on top and dried the project. I then made a dimensional sparkly layer on top using a stencil and glitter paste. To turn the shape to a little figure, I used a cut out vintage photo, some old lace and buttons. I start with white on white elements - creating the focal points and two pieces of paper for background elements. I use stamping and embossing powder for the blooms and an oil pastel for the background pieces. I color each element using the same Distress Inks. I cut the background pieces with circle dies and sew their edge with black thread using a sewing machine. I then add the circles to the cards using double sided tape and the blooms using foam tape. The Gramofonos - A.B.Studio Riikka Kovasin 2023-07-13 | A process video showing me create an art journal spread for A.B.Studio. I'm mixing different collections but drawing inspiration from the "Collected Moments".I start by cutting two pieces of cardstock fitting inside my journal. I attach them together with some masking tape and also use the tape to add some texture to the page. I then make a layer on top using crackle paste and a stencil. While the layer dries, I then prepare other elements for the page like the layers coming behind the focal point and some elements. I use watercolor pencils to color a black and white butterfly and embossing powders to color chipboard pieces. I use the same watercolor pencils to add colors to the background, too. I cut the background pieces loose and mount them to my journal. I then mount the focal cluster on top, trim the design to fit the two pages and finish the spread with some buttons and text sticker strips. Finding another world - mixed media bookmarks Riikka Kovasin 2023-07-06 | A process video showing me create a bunch of mixed media bookmarks using gel printed tissue paper, wooden bases and doodling. I start by creating a pile of gel printed tissue paper. I only use one sheet for these but I then can use the tissues to other projects. I use a gel printing plate with some stencils and acrylic paints while creating those. When I then have the stack of papers done, I start to collage them to the wooden bases. I add some stamping underneath and top of the collage layer. I add a title or a thought to each mark using word stickers and then add more details to them using paint markers. As a finishing touch I punch a whole to the end of the stick, thread a length of embroidery thread through and fray to end to a tassel. Thank you for watching! Sugar and spice and everything nice - A.B.Studio Riikka Kovasin 2023-06-29 | A process video showing me create a pair of cards for A.B.Studio. I'm using the "Spring Lady" collection.I start by choosing the papers for my card. I then choose the order of the two solid cardstock pieces and then cut each piece to right size. I layer the mid parts together and attach using double sided tape. I then turn my attention to the embellishments. I make some using embossing powder and stamps and also treat some chipboard pieces with crackle paste. I also cut elements loose from the 12x12 to be used as embellishments. Before making the composition I add some mixed media touches to the background using two stencils. I then layer the elements on top and finish the cards with a word strip and by mounting the cards to their bases. Use what you got - a set of cards Riikka Kovasin 2023-06-15 | A process video showing me create a trio of cards using some random embellishments from my drawer for random bits. The idea is to use those stored items, put the hoarded things in use.I start by creating backgrounds for my cards. I use embossed pieces of black cardstock as the base, each piece embossed using a different folder. On top I paint some weathered copper tones of blues and greens and then add a metallic layer on top. I wipe some of the paint of to get a worn look. I then cut the center pieces a bit smaller and mount them on top of black cardstock to frame them. Then starts the most time consuming bit, but I've sped the video up so it doesn't take minutes and minutes. I first choose items that fit the colors and style of the pieces and then start going through the selection, picking items for each card. Unlike some of my edited videos, here you can see the whole composition process. I'm working with the three cards simultaneously. My Heart Smiles - a FB live recording Riikka Kovasin 2023-06-13 | A recording of a Facebook live kept at my blog's FB page on June 10th. The topic was to make a sweet floral and butterfly card using watercolor pencils.During the live I made a quick card using watercolor pencils, a butterfly stamp and some patterned papers. I had prepared the background pieces before the live as I chose to sew two layers together. I then added some inky touches to both the background and some flowers I had cut loose from a patterned paper. I also added a bit of dimensional pattern to the background using a stencil and modeling paste. I then used watercolor pencils and a crayon to color the blooms and then used the same pencils to stamp a butterfly. Three Muses - a trio of mixed media assemblages Riikka Kovasin 2023-06-08 | A process video showing me create a trio of mini mixed media assemblages. I'm using hot glue moulded embellishments together with chipboard shapes and paper flowers. I start the pieces by making a dimensional pattern to the background using modeling paste and a stencil. Without letting the paste dry I then continue with the composition. I use a lady's face and some leaves in each, these done using a silicone mould and hot glue and top the design with some chipboard pieces and lace. I then let the pieces air dry for a while before adding a layer of black gesso on top. After that I add paint touches to turn the solid black into weathered copper or other metal. I first paint the piece sort of dry brushing with a metallic paint and then add blues and greens on top to make the surface look weathered. Wings of Magic - Paper Garden Riikka Kovasin 2023-06-01 | A process video showing me create a set of ATCs using Paper Garden supplies. I start the ATC set by collaging some old postage stamps on top of chipboard ATC bases. I use old Finnish green stamps and mat gel medium as my adhesive. While the bases dried I stamped some butterflies to be used as the focal points. I also cut some elements out of Paper Garden printable and some vellum stickers. I add a layer of white gesso on top of the collaged background to dull the contrast a little and then add stamping and ink on top. I also ink the edges of the elements. I layer the bits together and also add some twine into the composition. Nothing is impossible - FB live recording Riikka Kovasin 2023-05-30 | A recording of a Facebook live kept at my blog's FB page on May 27th. The topic was to make an art journal spread using inks and stamps.During the live I made an art journal spread. I had made the background scripts before hand and first cut them to fit inside the journal. I did need to add some text, though. I added some blue stamping on top, inspired by the ballpoint pen used in the script. I then used black ink to stamp a butterfly, some details to background and a sentiment tag. I color the butterfly using inks and pattern a tag with them. I also add some stamping to tea bags and with those I have the elements done. I then layer everything together. I also color the sentiment using watercolor pencils. I'm using the same elements but slightly tweak the design so while the cards are a set, they are still unique. I start by adding some ink to a white background. On top I then add some splashes, stamping and drawing. I also use another stencil to add a raised pattern to the background. Transparent ATCs - a FB live recording Riikka Kovasin 2023-05-24 | A recording of a Facebook live kept at my blog's FB page on May 20th. The topic of the live was making a set of ATCs using acetate. The live was kept in my native tongue, Finnish.During the live show I made three ATCs. I started by adding some alcohol colors to the transparency as the bottom layer. I also used alcohol inks to color some die cut bottles. I then added embossing to the backgrounds. I used embossing powders also to color another bottle shape. I used grungy powder on it as well as normal powder and thus I got this grungy, worn look when I added acrylic paint on top. As the last elements I made some stamped details for the cards - a background piece and also a fabric label sticker. Sunshine and robins nest - a pair of cards Riikka Kovasin 2023-05-04 | A process video showing me create a couple of vintage styled cards using die cuts, dies and inks. I started these cards by cutting some elements ready using dies. I cut some labels and flowers out of white cardstock and wreaths out of kraft cardstock. In the video I first choose a background paper for both of the cards and then choose die cuts to go with the color scheme. Use your wings - A.B.Studio Riikka Kovasin 2023-04-27 | A step by step styled process video showing me create a mixed media reversed canvas for A.B.Studio. I named the canvas "Use your wings". I start by adding a piece of patterned kraft paper to the center of the canvas and coloring the frame using acrylics. I then collage torn pieces of pattern paper on top of the frame. To add some dimension, I use modeling paste through a stencil. I then add a bit more touches of color and start layering elements for the focal point. I use elements of different collections cut out from the 12x12 sheets. Love found it wonderful - Paper Garden Riikka Kovasin 2023-04-20 | A process video showing how I created an art journal spread using Paper Garden supplies.I start with a printable sheet. I normally mount the printables on top of something sturdier, but as I was going to add these pieces to my journal, I worked on top of the printed paper. This then guided my choices with the mediums, for example. I add some stamping and collaging on top together with a dash of acrylic paint. On top of the flat collage made out of vintage labels and ephemera, I then make two more dimensional compositions using some labels and two elements from Tim Holtz idea-ology collection. The right page gets a big butterfly, the left one a vintage photo of a girl. I finish the spread with some Paper Garden stckers, touches of ink and sentiment stickers. Smartest of names - FB live recording Riikka Kovasin 2023-04-16 | A recording of a Facebook live kept at my blog's FB page on April 15th. The topic of the live was making some altered playing cards.During the live show I made a triplet of playing cards. I started by adding a layer of clear gesso to each. On top I then added some acrylic paint and remove paint through a stencil. After drying I then add water soluble crayons on top. I use the crayons also to make some stamped details to the cards and use frottage to make a piece of patterned paper using a stencil another way. After getting all the elements done I then put the cards together. I add a couple of details to the background, punch decorative holes to them and then layer everything together. Peace on Earth - a set of cards Riikka Kovasin 2023-04-13 | A step by step styled process video showing me create a set of cards using beautiful, stylished flower die cuts from Fabrika Decoru called "Inspired by Ukraine". I start by layering some Oxides and acrylic paint on top of a black cardstock. After drying I then cut the 12x12 sheet smaller and attach the pieces underneath these kraft colored stencil style pieces by sewing. On top of this background I then layer some white cotton tape, washi tapes and acrylic paint. These act as a little backdrop for the blooms coming on top. I adhere a smaller flower with craft glue but use foam tape for a bigger one to get a layered effect. I'm starting by assembling a door using A.B.Studio chipboard. I then paint it white for two reasons - to seal the surface and to turn it one solid color. The topic of the live was making an art journal page using paint markers, acrylic paints and a Lynne Perrella stamp. During the live show I did an art journal page. I started the page by brayering some acrylic paint to the background. This is a technique I picked up from Iris Fritschi-Cussens's Creative JumpStart video and it blew my mind. I then layer some stenciling and scribbles on top before moving the piece of paper to my stamping tool. I first stamp a sketch of the character, add coloring and then stamp her again. I then mount the project to my art journal. Been there, done that - an art journal spread Riikka Kovasin 2023-03-23 | A process video showing me create an art journal spread using left-over bits and stuff already on my craft table.I often find inspiration from the little bits on my table. This time I thought to turn that into a video. I'm starting by collaging some cut-offs from previous projects to a fresh cut piece of cardstock. I'm using matte collage medium to adhere the bits. I then combine the pieces with some acrylic paint and splashes. After moving the collages to my art journal, I continue patterning the background using stamps and then paint marker doodles. The focal clusters follow the same thing, I'm using bits left over from other, previous projects. Blue at Heart - A.B.Studio Riikka Kovasin 2023-03-16 | A process video showing me create and decorate a couple of chipboard decorations. I'm using A.B.Studio products in the video. I start by cutting some hearts out of patterned paper and adhering them on top of ready chipboard shapes. I first paint the edges of the chipboard white with white gesso. On top I add some stamping and then stenciling, building the project layer by layer. After I have the background done, I then make a cluster on top, building it also layer by layer. I start with some corrugated cardboard, then some patterned paper, chipboard blooms and paper flowers to top the cluster. I also add some twine in to soften the look. I then finish the project with some watercolor and gesso touches.
