I am using nightly build 31068 from 27 Oct 2021 which you can download from here:
nightlies.chaosgroup.com/#/phoenix4max/nightly/20211027
I am using nightly build 31034 from 14 Oct 2021 which you can download from here: nightlies.chaosgroup.com/#/phoenix4maya/nightly
I am using nightly build 31015 from 5 Oct 2021 which you can download from here: nightlies.chaosgroup.com/#/phoenix4max/nightly
In this video I'm also showing you how to turn the Phoenix wetmap into a mesh.
You can get the nightly builds from here: nightlies.chaosgroup.com/#/phoenix4max/nightly
You can get the nightly builds from here: nightlies.chaosgroup.com/#/phoenix4max/nightly
- Use PRT data with the preview auto reduction, preview coloring by velocity, age, etc, slice preview
- Use Time Bend controls to change the playback speed or animate the playback of PRTs
- Plug the PRT particles into a particle texture - it does not support the PRT Reader node so far
- PRT import in Maya was not possible so far - no PRT Reader there yet
- Flip Y/Z axes of the PRT particles
- Cache info box with particle numbers and supported channels
- The standalone preview can show PRT as well and now you can associate it with PRT caches under Windows as well
- The cache converter can convert from PRT to AUR and VDB
It works with Phoenix forces, 3ds Max forces, and Maya fields. It can also show the combined effect from multiple forces.
And there are still a few features missing and a lot to improve.
Also showing off the new Massive Wave Force:
- It allows you to simulate waves that perfectly match the Ocean Texture;
- It can affect not just liquid, but foam/splash as well, and even smoke;
- It works over the entire volume of the simulator in order to be able to produce tall waves - the old one worked only under the Fillup Level;
- It will not cap the ocean Level Of Detail to 6 anymore - you can choose any number that suites you
On the left you can see the old one, and on the right is the new preset.
Simulated and rendered on a 12-thread i7 6800K @ 3.40 GHz, with 64 gigs of RAM. The new preset both simulates and renders faster than the old one:
- Simulation of 180 frames took 5 minutes;
- V-Ray 5 Rendering is shown in the video - no GI, Bucket Sampler with Min shading rate = 6, and disabled Max subdivs; Rendered in 3 hours 20 minutes at 1080p.
Here is the Temperature shading for comparison: youtube.com/watch?v=UZan7Ge8QrQ
This is a demo of how the particles get displaced in the viewport preview the way the displacement would affect them if they are rendered using a Particle Shader with a Liquid Simulator connected.
Volume Brush Motion Velocity for the FLIP Liquid solver is only available since the Phoenix FD 4.20 nightlies from 16 August 2020 onward: nightlies.chaosgroup.com/#/phoenix4max/nightly
The Liquid particles are picked into a Particle Shader in Bubbles mode and the Count Multiplier is used to reduce the number of bubbles. Size variation can be used to make some bubbles larger or smaller for a more interesting result. The Liquid particle IDs must be simulated so that the Count Multiplier would look well in animation and will always remove the same particles.
Once the viscosity is reduced, another Particle Tuner starts gradually increasing it so it would solidify again.
The scene scale is exaggerated and the simulator is 1 meter tall for demonstration purpose - if you decrease the simulator scale, the viscosity effect will be reduced, so you can compensate by increasing the Steps per Frame.
The new Precise Tracing method works well for very low play speed and produces less fire flicker than the Interpolation and Velocity methods. The Interpolation method produces visible pulsations, while the Velocity method produces uneven movement of plumes.
Still it's better to use Time-Bend resimulation for sequences with moving emitters or more chaotic velocity fields.
The important steps are:
- enable Grid RGB in the Output rollout of the Simulator
- enable RGB in the Source
- set Based on for the Smoke Color to RGB form the Simulator's Volumetric Options
You can also emit RGB from a texture in the Source.
Here are more examples of the Discharge Modifiers: docs.chaosgroup.com/display/PHX3MAX/Discharge+Modifiers#DischargeModifiers-Example:DiagramUsage
