Here is my empty project. Let me set it up quickly.
Here I have a character simple sprite sheet. First I need to slice it. Select it. Set sprite mode to multiple. Hit Apply to save toe change and go to the sprite editor. Here I select the automatic slice option and hit the slice button. Make sure slice boundaries outline a picture accurately. Very good. Hit apply to save the changes. Expand the sprite sheet and bring the first sprite to the hierarchy. Here is my character. Let’s create Idle animation first. Select the character and go to the animation window. Hit create new animation. I rename it as Idle Animation. Take a sprite with open eyes and put it to the timeline. Idle animation is ready. Create new clip. This one will be a blink animation. Take the first sprite and put it here. Take the second one and put it here. Take the first one again and put it here. Let’s check it out. Animation runs too fast. Reduce the number of samples down to 10. Hit enter. Let’s see. Ok. Notice that animation duration is about 0.5 seconds. We will need this value in the script. Blink animation is done. Let’s examine the script that will control our animations. Here it is. It’s a pretty simple one. I use coroutine to switch animator states. It's time to blink variable represents the time interval between blinks. So in Update I check if that time interval has passed and if it has then blink coroutine is started. In coroutine I switch to blink animation and in 0.5 seconds I switch back to Idle animation. And after that it's time to blink variable gets a new random interval. between 0.5 and 2 seconds. Script goes to character. Now I can hit play and see how it blinks.

In the previous videos which you can get by the link in the description I created this simple project. I recommend taking a look at those videos. In this project I can move my character with the arrow buttons of my keyboard. To make it possible to use this movement feature on mobile platforms I modified my script a bit. Here it is. I use a start touch and end touch positions to determine which way my character should go. Coroutine is used here as well. So in the update method instead of reading keyboard input I get touch input. Start touch position is obtained when I touch the screen. End touch position is obtained when I release my finger. And depending on coordinates and differences between those positions a corresponding direction is passed to coroutine which performs the movement and simple animation.

So in the previous video which you can get by the link in the description I created this simple project. I recommend starting from that video actually. But this video is good enough as well. In that project my character was moving without any animation. So here I created a script that allows me to perform that simple animated movement. Here it is. Here I use a coroutine. Coroutine allowed variable will not let me start a new coroutine while the previous one is still running. Update method. Here, depending on which arrow button I pressed, I pass a direction to coroutine so my character will be moved up down left or right. Coroutine code makes that movement and animation possible. So the first block of code makes my character smaller with three steps of 0.2 and moves my character according to the given direction. The second part of coroutine makes a character bigger back and keeps him moving. The penultimate line of code just gives a character one more step to make it stick to the grid. Script is attached to my character. Hit play and see how cool it is.

Here is my empty project. I set it up quickly. First I add a cell. Duplicate it and put it with a step of 1.75 to the right by X axis. That will be a distance of one step in my case. Duplicate it again and put it to the right with another step of 1.75. And so on. Duplicate a cell and position it using that step. Duplicate the whole row and put it here. Duplicate it one more time and put it here. A kind of board is ready. Now to organize my hierarchy a bit I create a new empty. Rename it as cells. Reset its transform. Select all of my cells and D&D them in this cells game object. Great! Next game object is a character. To make it appear in front of my board I set Order in layer to 5. Character will have a script. Here it is. This script helps me to move my character by steps. So when Up Down Left or Right arrow button is pressed my character makes a move in corresponding direction with that step ща 1.75. Pretty simple. Script goes to character. Now let’s hit play and see how it works. I press arrow keys and my character makes his moves.

Let me start from an empty project and quickly set it up. First I create a new scene and rename it as Level 1. Then I duplicate it by pressing Ctrl+D keys and rename this new scene as Level 2. To make it possible to load any scene I need to add it to the build. File - Build settings - select these two scenes and D&D them into this window. Select level one. I need a character to play with. Here it is. Set Order in layer to 5 for example so the character appears above the door. I add rigidbody 2d component that will help my to move my character and detect collisions. Set gravity scale to zero so character will not fall down. Next component will be a box collider 2d. Set it as a trigger and edit it a bit. This collider will detect doors. My character needs a script to move. Here it is. It’s a simple script that allows me to move my character left and right. Script goes to my man. Another script named Enter door helps my to detect doors and enter them by pressing Enter key. So when my character collides with a door ontrigger enter 2d method is invoked. If my man collides with blue door then level 2 should be loaded. If he collides with brown door then level 1 should be loaded. Enter allowed variable is needed to let my man enter a door only if he collides with it. On trigger exit is invoked when my man exits door collider. When it happens enter allowed is set to false. And in Update method I check if enter is allowed and if enter key is pressed at the same time. If those conditions are met then the scene is loaded. Script also goes to man. This character will be spawned every time a new scene is loaded. So to make it possible I need a prefab of my man. D&D him to project folder to create a prefab. This man from hierarchy can be removed. Now I create a door. Here is the blue one. Door needs a collider. Set it as a trigger. Edit it a bit. Each door will be spawning my character. So this Spawn man script will help me with that. So when a scene is loaded a new man is instantiated at the door's position. Serialize field helps me to assign man prefab in the inspector. I’ll do it later. Script goes to blue door. Also blue door will have blue door script which is just empty one that helps my man to identify this door as blue one. Script goes to blue door as well. And finally I add a simple UI text to the scene that just tells me that this is level 1. Level 1 is ready. Save it and select level 2. This level is the same as the first one. So I do the same steps to set it up. Add brown door. Add collider. Add spawn man script and add brown door script which is also an empty one. And add a simple text. The last thing to do is to assign that man prefab to spawn it. Select door and D&D man prefab to this man slot of spawn man script. Save level 2. Select level, select blue door and D&D man prefab to man slot. Save the scene. Now I can hit play and see how it works. I can move my character left and right and step closer to the door and hit enter then the corresponding scene is loaded.

I start from an empty project as usual. First game object here will be the ground. Ground needs a collider so the player could walk on it. Edit it a bit. Next game object is a player which is a kind of boot. Scale it down a bit. Boot needs a collider to walk on the ground. It is a circle collider. Edit it like so. Next component is a rigid body 2d which helps to move my boot and detect collisions. I set gravity scale to 3 to make the boot fall faster. Set collision detection to continuous for more precise collision detection. And freeze Z rotation to prevent my boot from rolling over. Boot will have a script. Here it is. Script helps me to move my boot left and right and to make it jump. Script goes to boot. Right click on boot and create a new empty child. This game object will detect enemies' heads. Head check needs a collider for that. It will be a trigger. I edit it so it’s positioned right at the bottom of my boot and under that circle collider. Head check will have a script. Here it is. Script has an access to boots rigid body component for the purpose to create that little bouncy effect when the enemy is stomped. Script goes to enemy head check. Select head check and D&D bot game object to boot rigidbody slot. Right click on boot and create another empty child. This game object will be checking if boot collides with enemies body. Enemy check will have a couple of colliders which will be triggers. I edit them like so. Enemy check will have a script. Here it is. So when enemy check collides with an enemy the boot is destroyed. Script goes to enemy check game object. Boot is done. Next game object is the enemy. Scale it down. Put it here. Enemy will have a collider. Set it as a trigger. This collider represents enemies body. So the boot dies if it touches it. To make it work, the enemy will have a script that is just an empty one and it helps Enemy check game object to recognize an enemy. Script goes to enemy. Right click on enemy and create new empty child. This game object represents enemies head. It will have a collider. Set it as a trigger. Edit it so it positioned right above bodies collider. Like that. This game object will have a script. Here it is. So when this game object collides with enemy head check game object attached to the boot enemy is destroyed. This script goes to Boot check game object. Now I can hit play and see how it works. So if boot jumps on enemy then enemy is destroyed. And if boot touches enemies body then boot is destroyed.

I add an apple a carrot and a pear to the scene. Apple goes here. Pear goes here. Fruits and vegetable need colliders to detect mouse pointer. I select all of them and add a box collider. Set it as a trigger. I need a text for my tooltip. Right click on hierarchy and create new UI text. Rename it as tooltip. Double click to focus on it. Put it about here. Once canvas is created I prefer to set its scale mode to scale with screen size. I edit tooltip object like so. Put it here. Make font bigger. Make object bigger. Put it here. Align it in the middle. Change color. Ok. I don’t need any text initially so I remove it. Now lets see the script that helps to control everything. It’s Plant script which is pretty simple. Here I have tooltip text which will be assigned in inspector. OnmouseEnter method fires up when the mouse pointer is above an object. When it happens tooltip text shows a name of that game object. When the mouse leaves an object (OnmouseExit method is invoked) tooltip text shows nothing. I select all of my plants and add this script to them. Now I need to assign tooltip text. Make sure all of plants are selected and D&D tooltip into this slot. Now I can hit play and see how it works. No text initially. Once mouse pointer is over an object tooltip appears and shows its name.

Let’s start from an empty project as usual and set it up step by step. First I add some ground to the scene. Make it a bit smaller and position it at the bottom. Ground will have a collider so my character will be able to walk on it. Edit it a bit. Next game object is a ladder. Make it smaller as well and put it about here. Ladder will have a collider which will be a trigger. I narrow it down so the character will climb a ladder only if he is in the middle of it. To detect a collision I add a rigid body to ladder and set it as kinematic one. Next I add a player to the scene. I make him to fit the ladder. Something like that. Also I set order in layer to 1 so player appears in front of the ladder. Player will have a circle collider that allows him to walk on the ground. Edit it a bit. Next component is a rigid body to detect collisions with the ground. I set gravity scale to 3 so player will fall faster. And I freeze Z rotation to prevent the player from rolling over. Player needs something to feel that the ladder is near. Right click on the player and create a new empty child. I rename it as Ladder detector. Put this detector on the players head. There we go. This detector needs a collider to detect a ladder. It will be a trigger. I edit it to make it a bit smaller. Good. Now it’s time to check out scripts that will control of of this stuff. First one is Ladder script. It’s just an empty one and it helps the detector to recognize a ladder. You can use a tag for that purpose but using a script is more versatile for me. Next script is Player script. This script helps me to move my player left and right and up and down if ladder is detected. Climbing Allowed property is responsible for that. This property will be changed by Ladder Detector when it meets a ladder. I switch rigid bodys kinematic option back and forth to prevent sliding effect. Player slowly goes down by the ladder if up or down button is released. And last script is Ladder Detector one. This script has an access to Player script. I can make this connection in the inspector due to serialize field attribute. So when detector meets a ladder the Climbing allowed property is set to true. When detector loses a ladder then climbing allowed is set to false. Pretty simple.
Ladder script goes to ladder. Player script goes to player. And Ladder Detector goes to detector. Last thing to do is to make that connection between detector and player by dropping the player into player slot of ladder detector script. Now I can hit play and see how it works. I can move my player left and right and climb the ladder up and down.

Hi! In this video, I show you a simple way to proceed to some level or scene using a secret password. So initially you don’t know the password and you can only begin from level one. From this first level, you can go back to the main menu if you didn’t succeed for example or if you did succeed then you can proceed to level two. Doing this you get a secret password which you can enter in a special field and immediately jump to level two. Completing level two you get the password to level three. Entering that password in the start menu you jump to level three.

Simple Way To Add Hit Blink Feature To Your 2D Game Made With Unity Software

Hi! In this video I show you a simple way to create this hit blinking feature when a player gets some damage.
I start from an empty project as usual. First I add the player to the scene. Second I add this white blink image which replicates the shape of the player. I make this blink object to be a child of the player. Players' order in layer is zero by default as well as blinks one. So I set blinks order in layer to 1 so it appears above the player. Move the player to the right a bit and add a component which is a box collider 2d to detect collisions. Set it as a trigger and edit it like so. Also I add a rigid body 2d because one of the colliding objects should have it attached otherwise a collision will not be detected. Set the gravity scale to zero so the player will not fall down. Next I add the sword to the scene. Position it about here. Set order in layer to 2 so the sword appears above the blink. Sword needs a collider as well. Set it as a trigger and edit it a bit.
Ok. Sword will have a script attached. This is quite a simple one that allows me to move the sword with left and right arrow keys. Here it is. Script goes to the sword game object. The player will also have a script. Here it is. This script allows me to control that blink game object. Serialize field attribute helps me to initialize it in the inspector. In Start method I disable it so blink is invisible initially. OnTrigger enter 2d method is invoked when player collides with the sword. When it happens I invoke two methods. First one enables the blink and the second one disables it in 0.1 second so I have that blinking feature. Pretty simple. Script goes to player. Select player and D&D blink game object into corresponding slot of player script so player game object could control it. Hit play and see how it works. Beautiful. I start from an empty project and the first thing to do is to add an enemy. Here it is. Enemy needs a collider to collide with a wall. This collider will be a trigger. Also to move and to detect collisions the enemy needs a rigid body 2d. I set gravity scale to 0 so enemy will not fall down. Next game object is a wall. Here is one. I position it at the right side of the screen. Right here. Wall needs a collider as well. I set it as a trigger. Wall will have a script which is just an empty one. This script helps me to make sure that enemy collides with wall. I could use a tag for that purpose but I prefer to use scripts. I D&D this script to wall. Duplicate wall gameobject and position that clone at the left side of the screen. Ok.

Final thing is to check out the enemy script. Here I have some variables which help me to move my enemy and to flip its sprite when the enemy moves to the left or to the right. In Start I get localScale and rigitbody, set dirX to negative one so enemy walks to the left initially and set move speed to 3. Ontrigger enter method fires up when enemy collides with something. If that game object has Wall script attached then dirX variable changes its value to opposite one. And in fixed update I give a velocity to rigidbody depending on that dirX value so the enemy walks left or right. And finally in Late Update I flip enemies sprite depending on where my enemy is heading to. Maybe this approach is a bit overkill but it works pretty well for me everytime. That’s the script. I D&D it to enemy. Now I can hit play and see how it works. Enemy walks from one wall to another facing the direction he goes. You can find project files by the link in the description. Blue player is player one, red player is player two in this case. When player one collects a coin then player one score amount is increased and score sign is updated. Same for the player two.

A new puzzle game made with Unity software for Android platform is now available on Google Play Store!

Deceptively simple. Surprisingly addictive.

In this simple (at least some levels are) and relaxing (if you prefer to relax twisting your brain) puzzle (it’s a puzzle for sure) game all you have to do is to blast colored circle targets with rockets. A rocket should have the same color to be able to destroy a target. When all of the targets are destroyed you proceed to the next level. Sounds quite doable, doesn’t it? In this short video tutorial I show you a couple of simple C# scripts that will help you to move a game object (a tank in this case) with arrow buttons or WASD keys of your keyboard and also you will be able to rotate that tank turret with mouse (turret looks towards the mouse pointer). When you click left mouse button a bullet in spawned or instantiated and travels heading for mouse pointer.
