neptunusequesterToday we kick off the new series dedicated to all the fancy PvP tech that will help you to dominate the world!
Starting off with the bread and butter - toggle escapes. Despite being very simple in nature, toggle escaping will elevate your PvP skillz by a fat margin.
Toggle escapes are an act of overriding the stagger animation (in most cases) with the toggling animation that for some reason has a higher priority, meaning that... you can escape the stunlock by... toggling.
Whether you want to duel, spank some ganks or be a PvE invader, toggle escaping is vital, because in the cruel world of Dark Souls (1) Remastered PvP, just like Miyazaki has intended - being staggered by anything equals to death... unless you can toggle escape, which is why I'm here - to help ya! :P

...and that trick is spell canceling. Oh yeh and it is also applicable to some other pyro-thingies, spells and miracles... but it works the best with Wrath of the Gods.
While it is relatively useless in PvE, spell canceling is a crucial part of a normal PvP arsenal... if you want to run faith build that is. With just a flick of the stick (literally) it does turn your normal boring, reactable WoTG into a pseudo 50/50 mixup, where you can cancel the casting animation any time and bait the favorable reaction... which is pretty cool :P

Help me to fight depression by donating measly 2$ a month via Patreon ► goo.gl/tL5J8AHow To: Early Get-up technique in Dark Souls Remastered PvPneptunusequester2018-07-03 | Getting bullied by havelmom tryhards chainstabbing you to death? You spot them abusing parry buffer to delete your oki? Well, be worried no more, because even if they're super good at canceling whiffed R1s with use of buffering - this technique will still get them, completely humiliating their efforts.
Early Get-up tech aka Instant Wakeup is a neat lil' piece of tech that was discovered by bobman... and as the name suggests, it allows you to get up earlier than you normally would (after being backstabbed), so that you can easily punish the chainstab attempt.
It also works very well for mid-roll setups, where you don't necessarily want to roll (due to it being slower, more vulnerable mid roll) and you are forced to block on wake-up - if you use this technique your block will pop almost instantly, dramatically increasing your chances to survive. Very cool lil' tech, praised be bobman!

Are they using the broken tech? A glitch? Chain Backstabs? Oh god, call the H O N O U R police.
No, seriously. If you are getting bullied by bunch of Souls PvP veterans doing chainstabs at you left and right, you should be happy that you have found this video.
Don't feed the rumours - you don't need to use MLG glitch tech to counter chainbackstabs, it is actually really simple to deal with them: all you have to do is either backroll or just standstill, by waking up with no inputs.
It works with any latency and thanks to the built-in backstab immunity timer (yes, implemented by developers, in a legit fashion) - you are super safe.
Don't be like everyone else, don't plead to the cancer, don't fool yourself that you need some advanced glitch tech - countering chainbackstabs is very easy and it requires just a bit of patience.
I'm also adding some tips on chainstabs (how to do the roll catch chain and the parry chain) for those of you who want to catch some filthy casuals who have not seen this video yet. Cheers!
Help me to fight depression by donating measly 2$ a month via Patreon ► goo.gl/tL5J8AHow to: Parry Backstabs & Parry Chainstabs (Parry Buffering) in Dark Souls Remastered (PvP tech)neptunusequester2018-06-25 | Ever wondered why all these MLG 360 Pros do parry into backstab in PvP? Well, today you get your answer.
Because... there is a little trick associated to it. Apparently you can buffer billion R1s into the parry animation and if the single R1 connects with the backstab window - you will get the pull.
In other words, parrying and then backstabbing (by mashing R1) extends the natural window, giving you more chances to land a backstab compared to what you would normally get (one R1, one chance to land the backstab).
You can also make your chainstab attempts a bit safer with this method, since you can cancel the R1s (so that you don't whiff the R1 if you miss the window completely) by using other inputs inbetween R1, like: R1 B R1 B R1 B etc

While it nicely complements Murakumo 1H dashing (running) attacks and works rather well with all the spears, the instant dashing attack technique shines the most when it is paired with the best katana in the game - the Chaos Blade.
Normally to get the dashing attack in Dark Souls 1 or the Remaster you have to make a deep dash, which is not good. It is telegraphed and is extremely punishable on whiff. However once you add the iWDR1 to your arsenal, the game changes dramatically. It is such a brilliant piece of tech and you can get to know it here, with me!
Help me to fight depression by donating measly 2$ a month via Patreon ► goo.gl/tL5J8AOn glitches, bugs and unintended mechanics (eg dead angles & chainbackstabs in Dark Souls)neptunusequester2018-06-11 | Seeing the community raise against the perfectly good Dark Souls Remaster makes me upset. The fact that most of these complaints make no sense... makes me even more sad.
Some of the more vocal heads in the community do everything to portray the game in a negative light, so they complain about all the glitches, exploits and bugs that are still in the game...
...except some of these 'things' are not even a bug and a are consequence of an intended mechanic (eg chainbackstabs), while others add nothing but REAL depth to the PvP element of the game (eg spell canceling, toggle escaping, dead angling and more).
Being a fighting game nerd and a history freak, this whole situation makes me even more sad - because its the exact same thing in other Fighting Game communities - except the unintended mechanics (the so-called glitches and bugs) are accepted by the community and possibly even developers... because in most cases those things are beneficial and sometimes, even CRUCIAL if you want maintain the game balance.
...but instead, our beloved Dark Souls community shames the developer for leaving all these cool tricks in the game. Ask yourself a real question, be it a bug or a glitch - yes FROMSOFT didn't intend toggle escaping to be a thing, but it is... and without it - being stunned by anything practically kills you. Be real, is this the game that you want to play? A game where being hit equals death? Come on!
Help me to fight depression by donating measly 2$ a month via Patreon ► goo.gl/tL5J8AHow to counter Strafe, Pivot and Roll backstabs in Dark Souls (1) Remastered PvPneptunusequester2018-06-06 | I'm certain that the release of Dark Souls Remastered wasn't that easy for beginners, especially when it comes to the PvP element of the game. With a ton of unique tech and a clever backstab mechanic it is very easy to get lost in all the fanciness... and it is anything but fun if you keep losing to the same people, backstabbing you over and over.
However, today I'm here to fix that. I present you my humble tryhard guide (or tutorial) that will teach you how to perform (do/execute) and counter all the most common types of backstabs in Dark Souls 1 and well, THE REMASTER.
It covers the basics of lock-on backstabs, pivot backstabs and roll backstabs. Spoiler alert, backpedaling beats everything!
So, if you are new to the Dark Souls 1, if you are coming from a game that doesn't have much going on when it comes to backstabs (like Dark Souls 3) then this guide is definitely for you. I have tried to make it beginner friendly, so I hope it is accessible to everyone. If you have any questions? Hit the comment section!
Help me to fight depression by donating measly 5$ a month via Patreon ► goo.gl/tL5J8ATop 10 of the best and the worst Dark Souls Remastered changes (Port Review)neptunusequester2018-06-02 | Finally we can experience Dark Souls 1 in glorious 60 FPS all thanks to the R E M A S T E R. We also get password matchmaking, region locks, reworked multiplayer, more slots for phantoms, $20 Vamos bonfire, dead 'dead angles' and more... all thanks to the Remaster.
Today I go over these changes, list the most important ones and break them down in order to determine whether they're good or bad, all while providing my humble tryhard opinion on the subject.
I can't help but feel that the Remaster was trying to 2018ify your Dark Souls 1 experience and it does it... fairly well. Aside from few minor, ugly little ew-ah-ohh details - the remaster is just... a remaster.
I'm not gonna be one of these people bashing the game for keeping all the original glitches, like spell cancels and chain stabs (god forbid calling chainstabs a glitch) - at this point, those are just a staple feature of Dark Souls.
So if you want my verdict - you're paying $20ish monies for basically an optimized, online enabled Dark Souls 1 experience and I think the fact that we get to play Dark Souls 1 again, but with a wider audience is worth all the stuff that didn't transition well to the Remaster.

Help me to fight depression by donating measly 5$ a month via Patreon ► goo.gl/tL5J8AHow does co-op/invasions work in Dark Souls remastered? Weapon Matchmaking is not mkay!neptunusequester2018-05-28 | Today we take a look at the new 'rudimentary' matchmaking system that Bandai Namco have forced up us with the release of Dark Souls Remastered.
I am not sure what their intentions were originally: whether they were trying to protect newcomers from veteran invaders with bully hand axes and maxed out pyromancy or they just wanted to screw with the 'genuine good guy's co-op policies - they surely did both.
With the system as is getting a random unique weapon drop (from say a Black Knight) or picking an already infused weapon (from say a mimic) will permanently boost your 'weapon level' - a new modifier that is used to calculate the invasion/co-op brackets... effectively making it a lot harder for you to meet other players online.
With the addition of this unnecessary one extra new hot spicy fresh modifier, invasions with the gear difference become a bit harder to get, but the co-op aspect of Dark Souls suffers the most - because most of the good starter weapons (Drake Sword, Astora Straight Sword etc) are now considered unique - thus limiting your options for finding a co-op bro.
How do you like these changes? Do you think it was worth it?

I have no idea what I'm rambling about here in the first part of the description, but as far as the video goes - I'm hella hype for the Dark Souls 1 HD Remastered 4K 60FPS... so much, that I've decided to start a discussion train.
I remember back when Dark Souls 3 was just released every reddit thread was about how much people 'miss' Dark Souls 1 style poise and how much better it was. Well, we're getting Dark Souls 1 poise back... with the re-release of Dark Souls 1. So it's a perfect moment to reflect on two (or even three) different ways the poise was implemented in various Miyazaki installments to find the best one (objectively or subjectively) for PvP.
Once upon the time, I loved Dark Souls 1 style poise - with real combos and great fundamentals behind it. Then I grew tired of it. With the release of Dark Souls 3 I felt like the 'no-poise' route is the way to go, but after spending several hundred hours with Dark Souls 3 PvP my views have changed. What about you, fellow undead?

Help me to fight my depression by sacrificing $5 a month via Patreon ► goo.gl/tL5J8AJins parry: Best move in the game or just a gimmick? TEKKEN 7 Breakdownneptunusequester2018-04-10 | Many believe that Jin's parry is a gamebreaking UBER overpowered move that destroys everything if used correctly. However, I believe that it is a gimmick, but a useful one.
In this guide-tutorial-ramble video I give you a basic overview of the parry and what kind of goods it can net you.
Every good Jin player uses it in neutral, due to its fast startup it might be a preferred option in some situations (as opposed to more buttons or sidestep). As far as the stance transitions-conversions go - there is not much you can do there. Same goes for 99% of the strings, you can either step or duck to launch them properly, however in certain instances parry is much easier and safer option.
In situations where your opponent is about to do Leo ws4 1+2 or Dragunov's 113 string - you can get a free shot at it and if it works - go straight for the launch.
So, it other words. It is useful, but not really overpowered. Good tool, but is not a deal breaker.

Help me fight depression by sacrificing $5 a month via Patreon ► goo.gl/tL5J8AThe Importance of balancing in Single Player video gamesneptunusequester2018-01-03 | Ever wondered why certain balancing changes take place when it comes to your favorite Dark Souls game? Is it because developer wants to support the multiplayer aspect of the game and keep it up to date or is it because they are greedy enough to dictate how well your single player experience works? Well, sort-a both, kinda.
In today's video I try to do my best covering the most common concepts and ideas behind game balancing aka post-release adjustments when it comes to primarily single player games (like Dark Souls or Nioh).
...and to everyone's surprise - there are plenty of instances when the adjustments take place just because the things are not the way they should be.
Any given video game is a product of its developer... and developer is bound to have a very specific ideas on how the game should look, feel and most importantly play. So, the moment our (players) effort takes the game beyond that - it's in the obvious interest of developer to make it align to THE VISION.
Despite both Nioh and Dark Souls having a very active PvP communities - unless it is explicitly stated - most changes have very little to do with the multiplayer element... and so it goes.

Today I do my best to speculate as to why we have to suffer and is the cost behind this philosophy. I'm using Nioh and DMC3 as an example to illustrate my point... and this video obviously spoils both as much, as developer intended. That being said, I don't care what they intend - Nioh is hands down the best aRPG since Diablo 2 and DMC3 is a timeless masterpiece, probably the single most hardcore singeplayer video game ever made... so if you still didn't get to Nioh and have never heard about DMC3 - its your chance!

Cheers!Bryans f1+4 might just be the best way to close out the round in Tekken 7neptunusequester2017-10-24 | Often times, even in higher ranks, I see Byran players try to create some weird situation with b1 df2 checks into qcb3 aka Soccer Kick - all to close out the round 'safely'... and I always wonder why bother, because if they go for a slower move in the first place why just not use f1+4? It's perfect for closing out the round.
If you play Bryan you know it can be very hard to close out the round with your beefy low being rather slow, but if you actually go for it, why bother and not go for guaranteed damage in f1+4?
f1+4 is a i28 unblockable, which makes it not much slower that a Soccer Kick but a lot more effective... since its, well an unblockable. The trick with it is that it is -13 on 'block'... or hit, since its an unblockable - but if your opponent is dead then they cant punish it, can they?
It deals 21 damage - as much as Soccer Kick, so if your opponent is hesitant or you feel like you can go for a slower move - there is no better way to end the round than f1+4 - Mr.Naps approved!

While Taunt is very situational (in general) and it can be hard to set up (on oki, because your opponent can just stay on the ground) - b4 is super easy to use and it doesn't require much thinking. Once you as a Bryan get your opponent to the wall, let them get up and bam - b4... or side-step into b4, or anything into b4. b4 is the ultimate 'don't press anything at the wall' button.
I see plenty of newcomers get discouraged by this misconception that Bryan is all about Taunt or that he is handicapped without it. I'm not gonna argue that Taunt is a very strong tool, but I think that it is not the only good move in Bryan's arsenal when it comes to wall pressure. b4 can be as good as Taunt stuff, while being a lot easier to use. Not only that once you grow up as a player, once you get to consistent taunt stuff, b4 will still remain an easy go-to option when it comes to wall game... not only that, doing Taunt into b4 is a lot easier than doing Jet Upper, so basically... b4 is your best friend!

It's late, but you know how they say? Better late, than never. So yes, lets talk about my wishlist for DkS3... and those of you who are not new to this channel can probably guess the most of it, or at least the number 1.
Basically, everything that I want to see fixed boils down to 3 major ideas - less rolls, better backstabs and more movesets. There, I said, simple and very accessible.
Each change on its own, would make the game shine, but all 3? That'd be a dream... but hey, there is no real reason to be upset, because just in a month we will get Nioh on PC via Steam (God bless Team Ninja) so YOU, as a Dark Souls fan will finally have a worthy game to enjoy!

It all ended up with me changing ISP, because screw government... I guess. Anyway, back to Hitman...
...yes back to Hitman. I know some of you were waiting for it and I apologize for such a long delay, so here, have a long video. I wanted to cut some parts of it, but it all turned out kinda funny which makes me a... a good 'let's play' icon (probably not).
Either way, in second part of my Blood Money playthrough we give up on silly titles like Ghost and Silent Assassin in favor of trying to murder everyone with... a fire extinguisher. Damn me, I did screw it up and didn't get the title (we will likely revisit the idea later on) but it still turned out to be a pretty fun run.
It was all streamed live, so if you feel like you can be the voice in my 47 head, telling me of all the pretty ways to eliminate my target - feel free to follow me at ► twitch.tv/neptunusequester

Early Christmas by Team Ninjaneptunusequester2017-10-02 | Unsure if I am popular enough (probably not) to do these 'suppa quick' raw 'reaction' videos, but I am genuinely happy and hype as hell for this November... because on 7th of this November we will be getting Nioh... on PC. Yes, my favorite game of 2017 is coming to Steam - God bless Team Ninja!
No more 720p blurry mess: finally, Nioh in all its glory - with all cool DLCs, PvP, CO-OP and everything on PC in 4K at 60FPS - all yours.
It doesn't get better than this, huge props to Team Ninja for getting it to PC and I pray for good sales, because Team Ninja deserve it.
If you haven't heard about Nioh, here is the huge playlist with some SPOILERS ► goo.gl/Ag1w9z - but basically, its all you ever wanted - good fast paced combat, well thought out RPG system, story set in ancient Japan and of-course - the PvP.
If you had enough of Dark Souls, but still want something with good PvP - think no more, Nioh is the game for you. If you have any questions about the game, don't hesitate to ask - I'm happy to help. I tried to keep this video as spoiler free as possible, for those of you who are new to Nioh!
Support my misery on Patreon ► goo.gl/tL5J8AHow to deal with frametraps/frame disadvantage in Tekken 7 without panicneptunusequester2017-09-26 | Tired of being bullied by beefy moves that leave you at heavy disadvantage? Being hit by Dragunov's WR2 feels like a torture? Bryan's b1 gives you a ton of troubles? Don't know how to deal with it? Let me help you... sort of.
I'm tired of seeing beginners struggle when it comes to dealing with frametraps or frame disadvantage in general. It's almost an even split between people that do nothing in panic and people that try to do random stuff... both are not doing it right.
Almost every situation like that can be solved with good movement be it a sidestep or backdash, but even then - don't panic, don't mash a jab or a hopkick, don't randomly duck - see what your opponent likes to do and adjust. This is what I'm trying to teach ya, instead of trying to do your panic move in panic, relax, assess the situation and see if you can solve it with a backdash or a sidestep. If you want an easier solution and feel like you can win a lottery, do it, but do it smart. Analyse the framedata, learn what can be interrupted and what can be crushed.
The key here is to understand what your opponent plans to do and adapt to it. Please stop with panic hopkicks and dickjabs.

I don't.
I've always been trying to close to the facts and in this case, the facts tell you a story of Dark Souls 3 being pretty mediocre in its excellence when you compare it to previous installments.
Sure, I may be slightly upset personally, but it has nothing to with the game and more with how the post-release situation got handled, of all the things they could've addressed were few were actually necessary... but that's a topic for another video.
The message here is that I don't really have any strong feelings, I just see Dark Souls 3 being good in some aspects (like ones named in the video)... and super weak or outright inferior (compared to predecessors) in others.
The channel has been content starved for quite some time, but hopefully I will resolve my personal issues soon so we can continue with cool stuff.

Yes, we are talking about Rage Art cancel. Generally I advice you to learn accessible combo follow-ups - you want to be consistent with it, since canceled Rage Art acts like a very good, armoured launcher, setting your opponent up for a juggle - dropping the combo is very bad.
By canceling the Rage Art and doing 'normal' juggle, not only you get more damage from the combo itself (compared to raw Rage Art) you also get a chance to break the floor/balcony and do a wall combo - increasing your potential damage output tremendously.
You can also sneak the Rage Art (and cancel it) into plenty of combos, increasing the combo damage.

No, but really - I felt like playing it - so there you have it, some time in my company with narrated duels, blackjack and Gwyn.
This is sort of a freestyle episode, I didn't really have a solid plan for it, just decided to cheat my character back to SL120, get my trusty Avelyn & Estoc combo out and narrate some duels, talk about life and what not.
After spending a lifetime in Tekken, going back to Dark Souls PvP (aka baby fighting game) is fun, because you can roll people just based on fundamentals. That being said, I still maintain an opinion that if you want a baby Fighting Game you are better off with DkS1 or 2.
The audio may be out of sync for some episodes, please no kill, I'm learning. If like the format, you can say hi in the comment section and let me know what's what. Cheers!
Feel free to support my misery on Patreon ► goo.gl/tL5J8AExploring the concept of mental frame advantage in Tekken 7neptunusequester2017-09-04 | Today, as a part of 'tips for beginners' series, we talk about mental frame advantage or how you can keep your 'turn' despite being negative on block (or hit). As a collateral, we cover a trick that will allow you to make some unsafe strings bit more safe with the use of 'advanced' mindgames and what-not.
Having good neutral game in Tekken 7 is very important and there is no easy guide or tutorial that will help you to establish it, it takes time. However, the best way to start the process is by exploring the concept of 'fake' frame advantage, which will allow you to possibly keep your turn despite being net negative in relation to your opponent.
If you are new, look for good strings with natural extensions that are not much - on block and try to introduce them to your neutral game dictionary.
Feel free to support my misery on Patreon ► goo.gl/tL5J8ADark Souls PvP, what is it good for?neptunusequester2017-08-30 | Playing Tekken after Dark Souls made me realize that I have forgotten how OG DkS PvP. There is a good reason (and dem veterans will confirm it) for DkS being a party game (pls don't kill me) for SF crowd... because it was sort of a baby fighting game, that took part of fundamentals and added some unique shenanigans on top of it.
So if you're an OG DkS veteran like me, you have a really good understanding the basics - which is strangely, something that most Tekken players don't have.
People in Tekken community often go crazy, trying to crack the secret behind Korean dominance - but its very simple, any good player, when pushed to the wall responds to it with the most simple and effective solution... and in case of Tekken, just like it is the case with any fighting game - it is zoning & whiff punishment. This is what those Korean guys do, instead breaking their setups or looking for a move that their character can do to counter the 'problem' they just back off and bait.
So my point is, as much as people think DkS PvP is a 'meme', it actually does better job explaining those basics compared to Tekken. Most Tekken newcomers get obsessed with all those fancy mechanics (unnecessary shit that doesn't work against anyone good) so much they don't even realize how compact the game is.
Now obviously fun is a subjective thing, some people like to play in setups, some people like to do 'hard reads' that can make things look silly from your POV, but... if you are a DkS veteran coming to Tekken - learn the gimmicks, but stick to the basics - you will be very, VERY, successful.
Feel free to support my misery on Patreon ► goo.gl/tL5J8AUnderstanding the concept of blocking in Tekken 7 or how to deal with Kings Alley Kicksneptunusequester2017-08-23 | Plenty of beginners still don't understand the concept of blocking in Tekken 7 or at least to its fullest extent. So today I try to do my best to explain it in just few minutes, elaborating on how neutral guard works and why it is a terrible habit to rely on it.
The proper block in Tekken 7 follows the notation of B - for standing guard and DB - for crouching guard. Most of you know that holding B is vital, but for some reason only some realize that the very same concept applies to low strings in the game.
King's Alley Kicks or Stagger Kicks are the best example when it comes to that. Once you get hit by one kick (which is guaranteed on NH) all the next kicks are just an extension, however since its part of the 'string' you can't block it in neutral, so in order to block it you have to press and hold DB.
Feel free to support my misery on Patreon ► goo.gl/tL5J8AWelcome to Hitman: Blood Money - The game I absolutely adore!neptunusequester2017-08-19 | Been thinking about introducing you to this masterpiece for quite some time... and there is a good reason, as to why you should be introduced to it. Hitman: Blood Money is definitely on my Top 10 list of all time when it comes to video games and I love it for about a billion different reasons.
In this video I play through the shitty first contract of Blood Money (aka tutorial level) and do my best to explain to you why it has super cool atmosphere, possibly best feedback system, dope contracts and endless potential to have fun.
I will probably be streaming next contracts so I can have bunch of friends come over and think of all the weird and unusual ways to do the job, for fun ya know.
Feel free to support my misery on Patreon ► goo.gl/tL5J8AEstablishing frame advantage in Tekken 7 with a simple jabneptunusequester2017-08-11 | While I was making my way through the ranks the other day - I have noticed a surprising lack of basic jab setups, with people always mashing out the full random jab string, thus giving their turn away.
So, if you're one of those jab string lovers, I hope you are watching this video because there are potentially better things you can do other than mashing the full string.
The regular 1 jab is often overlooked by beginners for no apparent reason, even though it is the most accessible way to get some frame advantage.
Whenever you are struggling with pressure or trying to create some space remember that your generic 1 jab puts you at + whenever your opponent blocks it. You can pair it with magic 4 or any other move that nets you anything worthy, like pushback.
Obviously your jab is a high, so it won't protect you from moves that naturally crush highs - but it works wonders against jab pressure and it can help you to create some scrubby setups (like the one with magic 4). So keep that in mind!
Feel free to support my misery on Patreon ► goo.gl/tL5J8AThe Tale of horrendous Bonfire placement in Dark Souls 3: Casual editionneptunusequester2017-08-08 | There are some things that Dark Souls 3 does right, bonfire placement is not among those things... because it is terrible. Not only it intentionally trivializes your experience to make sure that your progress is well controlled, it kills the atmosphere of mystery and despair, the one I love so much.
Despite Dark Souls 1 having some problems with that as well, it was done billion times better. For the most part, the shortcut bonfires were well hidden, so you had to explore the level to find them, as opposed to FROMSOFT dropping them right in your face Dark Souls 3 style.
You can reduce the number of Dark Souls 3 bonfires by a third and it would make it only better, more challenging and rewarding. As it is right now, screw planning and resource management - dying isn't even much of a penalty since you have a bonfire right around the corner.
I could forgive FROMSOFT for being bonfire-happy if the level design was top-notch, but it rarely is - outside of the say, Undead Settlement (which I think is the best area in the game and I actually don't even mind the bonfire placement there, because it makes sense) - most of the other areas just encourage you to run past everything, thanks to amazing bonfire placement.
You may think that I am exaggerating the problem: statistically - maybe, but it does, for sure, ruin the atmosphere. Nothing spoils the adventure more than knowing that there is likely a checkpoint within next 5 minutes of gameplay.
Feel free to support my misery on Patreon ► goo.gl/tL5J8AHow challenging is Dark Souls and what makes it difficult?neptunusequester2017-08-02 | I really find it strange how press and some of the players praise Dark Souls series for its 'difficulty' and hardcoreness - because it really isn't that challenging. Can't help but feel like most of the praise comes from people who are on their first playthrough, struggling through the levels without proper understanding of how to approach the game... because outside of your first playthrough, once you know the rules - the challenge isn't really there.
Sure there are some traps and setups scattered around well crafted levels to catch you off-guard, to challenge you, but its really a one time thing and once you've gone past the first playthrough - the only real challenge that remains are boss fights, because by design that's the only aspect of the game where you get penalized exclusively for your mistakes.
Generally, it is a complex topic to tackle - what makes a game difficult? I'd say one thing for sure, a challenging game should remain challenging even past the first playthrough. When it comes to shooters, F.E.A.R is a perfect example of AI creating a challenge that doesn't fade - sure you know the place where the shootout is gonna happen and you got a decent idea where to expect the enemies, but chances are AI is gonna play very different each time - creating unique situations... sure, you may argue that the same happens in Dark Souls, but ultimately Dark Souls is shallow enough for you to enjoy the raw experience of pressing R1/roll button in a timely manner.
I understand that comparing an RPG to a shooter is an odd choice, so there is an easier comparison, because when it comes to AI prowess and boss gimmicks Dark Souls loses pretty hard to it's closest 'clone' neighbor in form of 'Nioh'. Bosses are fun in Dark Souls, just not really that challenging. The game isn't really deep enough to make you question your decisions... and it probably has never been intended to be deep - which just reinforces my point that Dark Souls, first of all is about the experience, atmosphere of journey.
This brings me back to the topic, as I never really understood why people called Dark Souls super hard, hardcore and very challenging - because it doesn't take much to break the game. Other RPGs have different way to build the difficulty and present you a challenge, advanced AI setups, various buffs and de-buffs that are designed to make you rethink your approach whereas Dark Souls, more often than not relies on clever enemy placement and lack of in-game tutorial to shake you up... which ultimately is brilliant, yet it does not hold up for long.
I'd say that Dark Souls is adventure and it was never meant to be 'hard' by design, its just that in the way to reinforce the atmosphere of loneliness in despair developers took out all of the hits, ultimately leaving new players to learn the rules the hard way. This should explain why everybody who has ever played more than one Souls game insists that the first one is always the hardest.
Feel free to support my misery on Patreon ► goo.gl/tL5J8ATekken 7 Shaheen: Tutorial for Beginners (Gameplan, Top Moves, BnB Combos)neptunusequester2017-07-27 | My humble take on 'noob' friendly beginners (ha, ha) guide for those of you who want to familiarize yourself with Shaheen in Tekken 7.
You may be wondering why a scrub like me is making guides like this, well it is because I think that Shaheen is super accessible and hella cool, so everyone should get some mileage with the dude. I apologize for video being in a bit of a 'ramble' format, I did mess up a couple of things - mainly numbers, but its all good because I did add annotations with somewhat accurate framedata to complement the video.
Couple of words about the structure of the video - I tried to keep it very simple and accessible. I start with a basic explanation of Shaheens gameplan, give you punishes and then walk you through most of his useful top tier super cool dope moves and give my take on why those moves are cool. I do cover his 'stance' - the Stealth Step and its uses towards the end. To make this video a complete noob starter pack I decided to provide simple BnBs for the most of Shaheen's launchers at the end of the video, so you can say this guide is pretty damn complete.
It's my first guide of this kind, so chances are I did screw up something... or just forgot to mention it or didn't emphasize something enough - point is - I am all in for you to help me make it better, so if you have something to add - feel free to leave a comment.
Thank you for your support. If you are having a nice day, you can support me on Patreon so I can have a nice day as well ► goo.gl/tL5J8AWhat defines your favorite video game or Why GTAV is a Dark Souls rip-offneptunusequester2017-07-20 | I'd be cool enough to put this into description right here, because I really want to deliver the message... so if you want to skip the video - you can, even though it doesn't do me any good - because a lot of effort went into it, including me dying (you know, long video, scripts and all that stuff)... now see, that an overly long intro.
Anyway, very few things that Dark Souls does are new, especially when viewed separately... the unique part is more or less the mix. It is understandable that it's the first game of this kind for plenty of people, but it doesn't mean that you can go super crazy and call any kind of 3rd person RPG a Dark Souls kind of game.... because if you do, you'll end up with a conclusion that GTA is the father of Souls games.
Jokes aside, a lot of Castlevania stuff can be seen in Dark Souls and its not just bunch of cherry picked features - its just the core concept of the game... because visually, they're actually very different - with Castlevania being 2D and Dark Souls being 3D.
Dark Souls takes plenty of traditional RPG elements and mixes them with its own unique take on roguelike (like harsh death penalty and whatnot) elements creating a mix that is now known as 'Souls game'. The thing is, its the mix and not bunch of features viewed separately. The 'permadeath' isn't new, plenty of games had it before. Open World? Not new. Unique level progression? Hello Castlevania. I hope you get my point.
So, the next time you're about to say that Nioh is a Dark Souls clone, think about it for a second... because it is as bad as saying that Borderlands is a CSGO clone.
Now, if you hate me enough to support my misery, you can help me on Patreon ► goo.gl/tL5J8AHow much of a Fighting Game is Dark Souls? What is the future?neptunusequester2017-07-11 | Don't get me wrong, Dark Souls isn't really a fighting game... but it might just be something even better. Now, before you bring all the forks out - I know - I've heard it all before - Dark Souls wasn't meant to be PvP driven game, let alone proper fighting game competitor - but somehow, someway, call it a miracle - FROM did nail the balance with first two games.
The balance between good fighting game fundamentals (using frameadvantage and positioning) and other fun RPG elements is what made Dark Souls PvP so popular, giving birth to this 'baby fighting game' genre.
Now if you're a bit down on Dark Souls 3 and you want to go back to the old days while moving to the future. Don't waste your time with another 50/50 game - skip For Honor - just pick the proper fighting game.... because finally, there is a game I can to recommend. So in other words, if you are looking for a game to move on to - my word is - get Tekken, because its so damn good.
