While it's true that perspective can cause things to look lower in the sky, it also causes things to look smaller. This is a mathematical relationship. Here I go over the mathematical relationship, and show that it's possible to predict how much further something is away from us, just by measuring the change in the angle of elevation. This distance ratio is also the same as how much smaller that object will look.

Sun Set Keigh See 2016-10-19 | This time lapse was taken with a Nikon CoolPix P900 using the cityscape time lapse setting. I used the cityscape setting because if I used the setting for a sun set, it gets very dark and you can't see the colours of the sky. You can see this darkening effect here even as I had to restart the time-lapse every 10 minutes, since that was the maximum setting on cityscape, and you will see every so often the image brightens as I restart the time-lapse. If anyone knows how to prevent this from happening with the P900, or even why it happens, I'd be interested to know.
