This week, on a new Check, Please! Bay Area, we visit Alameda Comedy Club, where you can order up some surprisingly first-class bar bites served with a side of laughter, supplied by first-rate comedy pros. Then, Sequoia Diner, located in the heart of Oakland’s Laurel District, puts breakfast on display, using sustainably sourced ingredients to elevate diner favorites like warm, flaky biscuits in white pepper gravy and Belgian waffles. Finally, in San Francisco’s Mission District, True Laurel pairs floral-based, aromatic cocktails with equally innovative, snack-sized twists on comfort food. Finally, reporter Cecilia Phillips visits E14th Eatery + Kitchen, a community kitchen and food business incubator in San Leandro, to sample the myriad offerings from aspiring local food entrepreneurs.

About Check, Please! Bay Area:
Each week, Check, Please! Bay Area welcomes three guests who are local diners, not professional restaurant critics. Each guest chooses their favorite restaurant and the other two guests visit that restaurant anonymously — the restaurants are not notified that Check, Please! “reviewers” are dining there. After trying all three restaurants recommended, the guests come on the show to discuss, dispute, and celebrate their dining experiences.

When they’re not scarfing down chocolate frogs or sipping on butterbeer, where do wizards and witches go to indulge in a bite to eat? This week, the cast and crew of the award-winning San Francisco production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child share their Prophet-approved picks for the best places to eat in the city by the Bay.
First, 620 Jones, located just blocks from the Curran Theatre, home to Cursed Child, is the go-to place to sip on specialty cocktails, sample globally inspired bar bites, and experience the tranquility of this unexpected urban oasis. Then, enjoy the ultimate “Kalifornien" Bavarian Beer Hall experience at Radhaus at Fort Mason. Finally, jet from Union Square to the streets of Paris without a portkey to visit Café de la Presse, a classic French bistro that marries familiar favorites with an old-world feel.
Reporter Cecilia Phillips rounds out this week's magical Check, Please! Bay Area with a visit to Thatcher's Gourmet Popcorn, a family-run business that produces 32 flavors of gourmet popcorn, many of which can be found nationwide at amusement parks, theaters, and more.
Special guests: Harry Potter and the Cursed Child actors Benjamin Papac (Albus Potter) and Melanie Brezill (Moaning Myrtle, Trolley Witch, Rose Granger-Weasley), and stage manager Aly Workman.

One of 14 annual holidays in South Korea that celebrates love (or lack thereof), Black Day recognizes one particular group: singles. Each April 14th, those who did not receive presents on Valentine’s Day or White Day — a secondary, male-led holiday to showcase your affection observed on March 14th — gather to wallow in their singledom. And their dish of choice? Jajangmyeon, a traditional, handmade black bean noodle dish.
There's only one restaurant in San Francisco making authentic Jajangmyeon, a classic dish as nostalgic as American mac n' cheese, the old-fashioned way: Zazang Korean Noodles in Pacific Heights.
Golden State Warriors superfan Robin Schreiber, the Dance Cam Mom, TikTok creator Nick Cho — @yourkoreandad — and local foodie and social worker Aisha Nelson join Check, Please! You Gotta Try This! host Leslie Sbrocco to share their thoughts.
