Aspie supremacy started off as the idea that those who had been diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome were different from, and better than those who had been diagnosed with Autism. But now, it more often refers to "autistic supremacy" which is the idea that autistic people are superior to neurotypical, or allistic (not autistic) people.
It takes many forms. Sometimes it's about IQ & intelligence, sometimes it's about being the next stage/step of human evolution, other times neurotypical people are referred to as NPCs, and even more bizarrely, there is a whole community of people out there who believe that autistic people are literally aliens. This New Age version of aspie supremacy involves lots of (often contradictory) concepts, are we Starseeds? Pleiadians? Indigo Children? Are we beings of pure soul, sent down from the heavens to save humanity? As funny as it sounds, these ideas have their origins in the work of Helena Blavatsky & the Nazis who were inspired by her, as well as European colonizers.
Aspie or Autistic supremacy isn't advocacy. It is simply eugenics. And the talking points involved are almost indistinguishable from that of early 20th century eugenicists, white supremacists & fascists.
It has NO place within the neurodiversity movement. Neurodivergent people have historically been the victims of these ideas, and so perpetuating them should be avoided at all costs.

In this video, I deconstruct the idea of what a "gaze" can mean, and importantly, what it doesn't mean. We discuss the idea of a neurodivergent style, and why it's probably not great to make any judgements based on people's clothes, no matter whether you caveat doing so as "speaking generally" or not.
As an autistic person who was a goth kid in the early 2000s, I understand the world of alternative fashion & subculture, but remain adamant that there is no place for essentialist thinking within the neurodiversity movement. And way too often, when you judge people for dressing "in the male gaze" you end up stumbling into misogyny yourself.
A "gaze" is not simply a list of things people like, it is not an aesthetic. It is a consequence of power dynamics, and it is far more interesting to view the neurodivergent gaze in terms of overthrowing certain power dynamics.

Dr Christopher Palmer MD is an assistant professor of psychiatry at Harvard University & the author of Brain Energy - A Revolutionary Breakthrough in Understanding Mental Health and Improving Treatment for Anxiety, Depression, OCD, PTSD, and More.
He claims to have developed a "unifying theory of mental health" & has been touring the podcast circuit promoting the Ketogenic Diet as a potential cure for a great variety of mental health & neurodevelopmental conditions. His ideas are based on the effect that Ketosis has on mitochondrial function & he draws his evidence from its use to treat epilepsy.
He claims that all mental health conditions & neurodivergence are "metabolic disorders" & so diet should could be a primary form of treatment, fixing metabolism & therefore regenerating brain cells.
This controversial idea is of concern. I found this interview to be extremely irresponsible in how it communicates ideas surrounding diet & neurodiversity & I also found his causal evidence to be lacking. As did many others, as we learn.
This is an in-depth look at the podcast & some of the statistics he presents. And I explain not only why Palmer is taking great risks in promoting the Keto Diet in this way, but how Conservatives could use his ideas as a stick to beat disabled people. And maybe that's why he took this idea to the Jordan Peterson Show.

Being autistic while traveling comes with all sorts of challenges, chief among them being airports. I hate airports. I particularly dislike Manchester Airport. None of them are neurodiversity or even really disability friendly. In this video, I discuss how I travel. What accommodations I provide for myself so that I am able to travel. I also discuss exposure therapy and how it relates to autism. Did you know that autistic people are less able to become habitualized to external stimuli? This is why exposure therapy is less likely to work for us. But then, I have used exposure therapy methods many times in the past to overcome phobias & dislikes. So what gives? What makes airports different from insects?

When disabled people are deemed "fit for work" by apathetic governments, we need to be safe in employment. I talk about some of the barriers and challenges facing us and why we need more worker solidarity from those on the Left.
There is an idea that if we pursue ideas like UBI, or even just improve our benefits & welfare systems, that this will put people off work, but when the evidence comes in, we know this isn't the case.
For the entire history of humanity, people worked. Work predates wages & people usually quite like having a positive impact on the environment around them.
I look at some of your comments about jobs you liked as autistic & otherwise disabled workers. What made them good jobs or autism-friendly?
What can employers, managers, union leaders or even just shift supervisors do to make autistic & disabled workers happier & safer?
This is important right now especially as the UK Government recently announced changes to the benefits system which will leave millions of disabled people worse-off, by replacing PIP payments with VOUCHERS.

Casual short one about my experience working in the retail and hospitality industries as an autistic woman. Burnout is a huge problem and so, this Autism Awareness Week, I thought there might be some helpful clues in the one hospo job that I enjoyed. The time I was a barista in New Zealand. What about that role did I find so autism-friendly? What can employers do to make things better for their neurodivergent and otherwise disabled workers?

It’s four years since I got diagnosed as autistic & it’s been quite the journey! From watching my first ever YouTube video about autism & falling down the rabbit hole, to today & me being a part of the autism rabbit hole!
So let’s talk about autism advocacy, from social media to mainstream psychology & established medicine to charities like Autism Speaks. I tell you why I got diagnosed, and why I am seeking further diagnoses, while also fighting for a world in which one doesn’t need to overcome gatekeeping to access necessary care. I discuss the medical gaslighting that disabled people must endure during assessments, why the Autism assessment process can be confusing to autistic people, and importantly, what autistic advocates are doing about it.
Featuring Samantha Stein of Yo Samdy Sam fame & her own book – So You Think You’re Autistic, A Workbook For the Confused Person Who’s Just Trying to Figure Things Out. We talk about TikTok, healthcare, empowerment and creating good strategies for AuDHD people.
I dive into a study which supposedly shows that most of the information about autism on TikTok is false. And I talk about some of the more cringe aspects of neurodivergent social media, especially the trend of “neurotypical” discourse. Neurodiversity is not a movement of division & generalisation & this video is a celebration of the hard work done by neurodiversity & disability advocates, despite the occasional bad egg. #ActuallyAutistic

One of my all time favorite movies. Definitely my favorite Disney princess.
Let’s DIVE (get it?) into why Ariel from The Little Mermaid is iconic in both a neurodivergent & also a feminist way! Why did little autistic me relate with her so much?
People might criticize Disney princesses for being anti-feminist, but I argue that The Little Mermaid is a story of feminism, of a young woman who doesn’t let disability or social misunderstanding hold her back. So let’s celebrate Ariel – Autism Icon?

I'm autistic & didn't know it until I was 32, I have Hypermobile Ehlers Danlos Syndrome & didn't know it until I was 36. Both of these are lifelong disabilities, so why didn't I know I was disabled for so long? Why was I so wrong about disability?
Discussing the trauma & medical gaslighting that can occur for EDS sufferers, why did doctors fail for so long to take me seriously? Why did I fail for so long to take myself seriously? Ehlers Danlos Syndromes and other hypermobility conditions can appear heterogeneous & can manifest in different ways. I explore my experience & tell my story of discovering & coming to terms with my new diagnoses. From hyper-mobile joints, to digestive issues, to chronic pain & fatigue, how could i have so much wrong with me for so long & not even realize?

Difficulty in reading emotions from facial expressions is a well-known trait of autism, but what if NOBODY can read emotions from faces? What if the basis for thinking we can is founded in bad science & dodgy methodology? The idea that autistic people are bad at recognizing emotions has lead to some VERY bad ideas, including the assumption that we're unemotional, uncaring & don't really have feelings...
Talking about why body language experts are scam artists, why AI will never be able to read facial expressions & why the history of emotion recognition from faces alone is bordering on pseudoscience.

Those people who call themselves "gender criticals" AKA "TERFs" AKA "sex realists" AKA anti-trans activists have an awful lot to say about autistic people, specifically autistic girls & women.
