Long ago, an army of knights known as the Order of the Silver Cross attacked count Orlack's castle.
The mission was to annihilate the lord of shadows and all his subjects.
The battle was fierce, leaving a large number of victims on both sides.
But finally, a few knights managed to access the main crypt and confront Orlack.
The count managed to defeat a dozen warriors before being cornered by the invaders. The end had come. However, he managed to transform once again into his vampiric form, escaping between spears and arrows into the dark night of Transylvania.
Years passed and the wounds of war were healing. Earl Orlack made the lonely return home and only one word kept him alive. Vengeance.

After about 4 years, I've been using SID-Wizard, the tracker that welcomed me to the wonderful C64 and its amazing SID sound chip. Madness struck as I used not one or two chips, but THREE for this cover (ignore my mistake using the $7x command; that's for assigning arpeggios that weren't used here xD).
This song is quite well-known, with a rhythm that's present throughout, with that spacey, nostalgic vibe it can generate. It's been heard in tons of TikTok videos, shitposting, and even mashups—amazing...
I couldn't find an optimal way to display the 9 channels I used for this, so I edited the video with a slightly strange resolution, 2048x1080. I thought it would blow up SID-Wizard, but it performed quite well (despite how laggy it may look).

I can't believe Despicable Me 2 came out over 10 years ago, but I still remember this song fondly; it has a vibe that lives up to its name.
Back to the beloved NES, the platform I started chiptune covers on a while back and grew to love, this time I based it on an excellent cover by Steel for the C64, but gave the percussion a bit more dynamism.

Daft Punk - Something About Us (C64 8580 Cover) [GoatTracker]Esteban Trujillo2025-04-12 | https://csdb.dk/release/?id=251841
I think this is Discovery's saddest song, but with its simple yet effective instrumentation, it's caught my attention for years. It's a shame the band split up years ago, as is the controversy surrounding the AI remaster of Interstella 5555, but those are other topics.
Back to the cover, I again used the trick of quickly switching beats to have the Hi-Hat + Arpeggio in a single channel, a technique I also used in the Live at Stage 9 cover. I based it on Chiyoko's cover, which is quite well done, and has more freedom in the sounds since it's not limited to the three channels of the SID (who used NES + VRC6 + FDS), which motivated me to optimize the instruments as much as possible (it's appreciated that the original song isn't as complex in this regard).
Finally, I decided to leave the song on loop, it's better in case someone wants to use it somewhere.
Maybe I'll upload another cover sometime in the next few days, or return to that cave called "University."

Another one of those powerful songs that you find in short videos, but that have a deep meaning. A song that both my brother and I like quite a bit.
First serious cover on Game Boy, years ago I had tried unsuccessfully using a tool to convert FamiTracker modules to GB binaries, but since Furnace exists I had the urge to do one someday. It's also the first cover of the year, so it's the first in two things haha (something like Omori's was at the time).

Every time I listen to that 22-second intro I get goosebumps, it's just majestic! One of the best MODs made by 4mat, using a lot of pulse waves and such that you'd find in 8-bit chips, it's fantastic.
I'm not a big fan of the 6581 but I decided to use it for this cover (and it's better because there are two of them!), with more pronounced filters that give more power to the bass (which I decided to lower an octave).
This is the last cover of the year and I hope you like it a lot, I've never used so many patterns, besides being the largest .sid.

Overdrive - Title Theme (C64 Dual 8580 Cover) [CheeseCutter]Esteban Trujillo2024-11-20 | ****************
After more than 10 months I'm venturing into using 2 SIDs again, and it still surprises me quite a bit. Also, I took the opportunity to use CheeseCutter again, which is a rather peculiar tracker but I like it a lot, it has some features that others don't have, and there's also a stereo version that's excellent. Additionally, there are almost no videos of this program on YouTube, another reason to use it and keep experimenting with it.
Now about the song itself, a rather melodic song made by Brimble, a Commodore Amiga master and perfect for participating in "Yogi's & Flex' Melodic 2SID Compo 2024" (if you have an account, you're invited to vote on what you thought of my cover and that of the other participants), with good samples and a frenetic rhythm, I love it. Because CheeseCutter's filter table works differently than GoatTracker's, I decided to change the kick drum a bit and I liked it quite a bit, I also decided to give more importance to filters in general.

Tiburoncy Full OST ~ (C64 8580 SID) [GoatTracker]Esteban Trujillo2024-10-06 | ****************

An atypical year, in which I have been quite far from the channel, from covers, from music and chiptune... But I have not forgotten about the demoscene during all this time.
This song has one of the most incredible bass lines I have heard for years. That was my main motivation to make this cover, as well as making it more interesting using an old version of GoatTracker 2, specifically v2.06. (It does not work properly on modern operating systems, which is why the recording lags).
Flashparty is the most important demoparty in South America and it will always be an honor to participate in it, spreading this culture in the continent where I live is great and amazing.

Without a doubt this is one of the most epic songs in the entire Super Mario saga (and also the cover that took me the longest to complete... ONE YEAR O_O). Personally, it gives me goosebumps when I listen to it.
It took me quite a while since I remade it several times from scratch, I had problems with the arpeggios since I was guided by some notes that good Joachim Wijnhoven (Yogibear) shared with me quite a while ago, but it was achieved, which is what is important.
I decided to make some minimal changes, although I am aware that several instruments were lost due to the channel limitation, but hey... That makes the challenge more fun haha.
Anyway, Yogi, I hope you like this a lot and sorry for the delay in finishing it. Also, a small announcement here, dear viewer, if you read all this... Future covers will be in collaboration with a great friend, I am looking forward to the future results.

aka Chicken Invaders 2 - Main Theme https://csdb.dk/release/?id=242477
The history of this cover is short: In January I was looking at the features of different players/trackers in DeepSID, including version 1.x of GoatTracker... For a long time I wanted to experience what it was like to use these old versions of the tracker, and I did it. I achieved.
The first challenge was to make it work without lag on my computer. Logically, since it is an old version, it should run without problems, but apparently the old versions of the SDL2 library made it work poorly, so I had to replace that file with an older version. recent.
Second, learn the keyboard shortcuts. Unlike recent versions of GT where you can click on a section of the program and it takes you there, in older versions you had to use keyboard shortcuts.
Third, the way the instruments work here is different. Instead of having a big table where you can control your instruments more deeply and obtain curious sounds, here you are limited to a series of parameters where you must indicate the initial and final value of the pulses and the filter, being a bit confusing.
Finally, choose a short but catchy song, and this song by Manfred Lizner was the right choice in my opinion, only in some cases it will sound strange because I decided to use the combination of the LP+BP+HP filters for the bass/snare drum (similar to the main theme of Turrican 1).
This was born as a test but Moonshine's friends liked it and uploaded it to CSDb, despite me uploading it to DeepSID a month ago. University stole all my time, and I don't know when I'll go back...
****************
(Chiptune Instrumental Cover) [Furnace Tracker]Esteban Trujillo2024-04-13 | ****************
Común Desigual is a band from my city that started in the rock genre, then moved on to alternative, and is currently dabbling in punk. Today it is made up of 4 members.
I recently met their drummer, who told me about the band's history, its various facets, and forays into the musical field of Ibagué. (and by the way, thank you for helping me with the base notes).
"¿Dónde estás?" It was released for the opening of his YouTube channel a year ago, which is why I decided to make this little cover of his instrumental, by ear. I was very afraid during the production since there was always doubt about whether the band would like the cover, or the sound design.
It was a most curious and interesting challenge, since without lying I listened to the original song more than 40 times to decipher most of the possible notes, in addition to adding some details that were not present.
From this small space I send a lot of good vibes to the band and their project, they have a lot of potential, they are talented and I know they will go quite far with their creations.

I finally have some time for the channel, uff... The idea of doing a cover of this song comes from 2021, when I discovered it in those compilations of incredible songs on Super Nintendo.
I didn't know which platform to do it on at the time, since I was just starting with C64, NES had left it aside, and my "sound adaptation" skills still needed to be improved.
What I highlight the most about the original theme is its percussion, it is wonderful and incredible, as well as dynamic for being from SNES. The Follin and their sound design always surprise, no matter when or where you read this.
I wanted to respect that percussion but give it that chiptune touch, so I decided to use again the raw PCM feature that the 2a03 has, and this was a good decision. With the 4 channels of characteristic sound, together with the reproduction of samples in good quality, this result was obtained.
I returned to the idea of making this cover thanks to a classmate's notebook xD (me and my random inspiration sources).

A fairly popular song in compilations of old images on TikTok. There are two versions, the original by Mac DeMarco, and a piano version by Your Anxiety Buddy, although I based the cover on the first one.
I used some pulses that gave vibes of 90s songs from the C64, and I succeeded, using slow arpeggios and fairly wide pulses.

Ben Daglish was an amazing composer, who sadly passed away in 2018. I came across the main theme of 3D Galax thanks to a remix by Dubmood, which I based this cover on.
I love the transitions that the original song has, and that spacey, nostalgic vibe it possesses. The Dubmood remix is great, and is better known than the original version by Daglish.

Galway is a legendary Commodore 64 composer, he's incredible, and at someone's suggestion I was encouraged to do this cover, taking some elements from him, along with others from DRAX. I finally used CheeseCutter for a serious cover, I felt pretty comfortable on the tracker but I think I'll stick with GoatTracker.
I feel like this is as true to what a song made in the 80s for the C64 would sound like. I will remain missing for a while longer.

Happy birthday Nordischsound! Hope you have a good time mate :D
This is one of my favorite original songs that Nordischsound has done, for Techno Compo 2023. The beat and house music vibes hit me the first time I heard the song, it's amazing.
The samples were extracted from the Roland TR-909 drum machine. I also made a few small changes to the song to better fit the NES chip.
For those who don't know him, Nordischsound is a German musician. Since 2011 he has an active channel of him uploading various songs, and from 2020 he started composing for the C64, mainly doing amazing covers, as well as incredible original songs. Thanks to him I was able to make myself known in the demoscene and join the Italian group Hokuto Force.
NOTE: The cover sounds a little different on YouTube since the master audio was generated by exporting each channel and mixing everything.

I'm still familiar with Furnace Tracker, and I love it! Well, it allows you to use 7-Bit sound samples on the NES chip and you can get great results like this.
I censored the name of the original song in the title of the video using the same one from SuperJet Spade, but in the download section it stays the same, the case, it has some vibes that I quite like, although I don't know how to describe them correctly, chill music maybe?
Anyway, a good part of the cover was based on the version that acrouzet did a while ago, and since the NES is limited in the width of the pulses, I played around with it a bit. A 4 note arpeggio is insane, and that Furnace allows note sliding makes me really like it, by the way, I reused the drums from the cover of "Omori - My Time", I feel that it matches the kind of song it is.
I generated the thumbnail image with Freepik's AI, I was too lazy to look for a suitable image.
NOTE: The cover sounds a little different on YouTube since the master audio was generated by exporting each channel and mixing everything.

Sigo conociendo Furnace Tracker, ¡y me encanta!

I honestly think this is one of the best songs Alberto has done for GB/GBC. It's frenetic, with an amazing intro, and an overall enjoyable pace.
I based on the cover of my colleague fupaboychris (who unfortunately we haven't heard from for years) who made his version for NES+VRC7 amazing, adding some extra elements, and that I borrowed for mine. I also used some Nordischsound instruments to give it that rock touch.
It's my second participation in a party, and I felt great doing it, I think I'm starting to formally build my story on this chiptune thing.

A legendary racing game for Commodore Amiga, and that has a very recognizable soundtrack. I had already heard this song a long time ago since fupaboychris covered it 2 years ago, and it was amazing.
I decided to make my version for C64, although the game had a reason for this system, with the same song, also if I remember correctly, Slaxx also made their own version in April of this year.
The bass of the original song is catchy, and it has good percussion. I decided to change the main instrument by adding an arpeggio to it that shifts up an octave, making it an interesting effect.
Some of the songs from this game appeared on Top Gear/Top Racer for the SNES, funny.

What was going to be a cover of a Qix song turned into this xD. Little story: I've been learning a bit more about CheeseCutter and already feel confident using it, despite some quirks and the fact that the .sid packer tool is a bit clunky to use.
Why is this mentioned? Well, I was going to merge a .sid with a .mod using THCMod, but I died trying, if the program didn't freeze, I was able to generate the merge but the result sucked. I was even encouraged to transcribe what I had done in CheeseCutter to GoatTracker but still to no avail. Feeling that I wasted time, I remembered this song by the genius FΛDE and I said to myself "Why don't we try this and see what comes out?" Sure, no samples or anything like that, other than reverting back to the trusty GoatTracker.
The original song is a technical feat, as it was made with the Namco WSG chip in mind, used in various '80s arcade machines, including Pac-Man; Although this chip allows you to use custom sound waves, it is limited to 8 of them, and it does not have a noise channel, so that is an interesting challenge.
Also, the song has a nice beat, some great sound effects, and a not-so-weird title (just kidding, it does have one but it's discreet). Also if I'm not mistaken it was the first song made with that chip using Furnace Tracker.
I think I was able to do a good sound design this time :)
PS: While doing the cover I found out that there is already another one for the C64, you are invited to listen to it!

I'm back after a year and a couple of months with an NES cover, since December 2021 that the FamiTracker didn't open. I'm supposed to study for university exams, but the momentum got the better of me xD.
What can I say? Abstract64's cover is amazing and encouraged me to do my own interpretation, taking some elements from VinylCheese. I'm not one to use the DPCM sample channel much, but I feel that it turned out very well here with the percussion :D

I think this is the cover of "the first time", why? Well... It's my first time using Furnace, an amazing tracker and the truth is, you can get lost because of the number of sound chips it offers. It's also my first time using the VERA chip from the Commander X16, a kind of modern retro computer designed by The 8-Bit Guy. Also, it's the first time I've heard about the Omori game, I really didn't have it on my radar, I just know that it was released on Christmas 2020, and that its soundtrack and story are incredible.
Making this cover was fun and challenging, since my hard drive started to bother and the Furnace project got corrupted, but I was able to recover it and end up with 3 different versions of the same song XD, besides that the song has its complex parts, but that motivated me to go ahead with this and not give up, for months I wanted to use Furnace and this was the occasion, and also because it was suggested by a colleague from the university, who has good musical tastes.
I made some changes to the song, adding percussion at certain times, subtle changes in the chords, and well, having 16 channels available was overwhelming me haha, I'm not used to so many, my limit has been 5, but it was worth experimenting and increase limit. Working with MIDIs that have BPMs other than 125 or 150 makes it more interesting.
Will I use the VERA chip again in the future? I don't know... Time will tell.

No sé... El tiempo lo dirá.

A song from a legendary game. At first I was going to do it using a single chip, but the bass with the percussion didn't sound so good, so I decided to do the cover using two SIDs.
By the way, I did this in two and a half hours, it's one of my few covers where I didn't use arpeggios. The idea of doing the cover was born from a conversation I had with some university classmates, we were mentioning childhood games and the name of this one appeared. A bit of context: I did this cover in that turbulent time of transition between the old channel and the current one.
I remember at the time I was experimenting with Follin's style, and I had come across this song not long ago. I thought: "it would look good if I applied the Pictionary (NES) style to this", and this was the result.
The characteristic percussion, bass and arpeggios were embodied here. I didn't publish this cover in a separate video like all the others, but it was together with a compilation showing my entire chiptune journey.
So I decided to reupload it because it is one of my favorite stuff, and it has a better quality than the others.

I think this is the biggest crazy thing I've done so far, I don't have much to say, I wanted to experiment again with 2 SIDs and "overclock" (I don't know how to say this) the chips to 2x speed.
The original song is awesome, and replicating certain instruments was a bit tricky, so I decided to improvise a bit with the filters, and I really liked the result.
Perhaps this is one of my last contributions, since I will retire permanently in a very distant period, so I am considering that other songs could be ported to the C64 or other consoles.

Some may ask: Why did you upload this again? Well, there is an explanation.
This week that I started with the cover I was talking to my friend @minttukone, and he learned how to patch .sid files generated with GoatTracker to add the GT-Echo (Geir Tjelta's Echo) routine.
This was the main reason for making the cover, to solve my doubt of how would this sound with echo; and boy does it sound much better!
I'm uploading this today because I'm having a birthday and I consider this a great gift from minttukone, it's amazing how much better the cover sounds with this!

**************** Again several months passed before starting with another small and interesting project, this time with "Buzzer" by Jochen Hippel, also known as Mad Max. This is an iconic song from the Atari ST and I decided to port it on the brand new C64.
There are some things that are not present like the special surround of the bass, instead I preferred to play a bit with the filters to simulate that sound, also, in the original song there is a very crazy type of sound, a chorus of two notes at the same time! and I am not referring to arpeggios, literally two notes are heard at the same time in a single sound channel, but in the SID to achieve that it would be necessary to overclock it, which I did not do in this case.
By the way, I drew heavily from the NES version I did years ago. I also used this song for an experiment with a friend, and if you want to see, there is a link below. I think we'll agree that when FΛDE tests a new chip, he releases a song that immediately surprises. This is one of my favorites, simply the 90s techno rhythm that it has at the beginning completely hooked me.
Replicating the bass of the original song is impossible since the SID doesn't have the characteristic envelope of the AY family, so I opted for a bass using the lowpass and bandpass filters combined, with a rather thin pulse to give it consistency, also the snare is a bit different, but mixing it with the kick gives it more power. By the way, I used the Abstract 64 remix as a reference, and I left the tuning of the latter to the final, it sounds better.
By the way, I will never understand the meaning of your song titles, FΛDE :)

I think this is the simplest thing I've done in covers so far, but I put them in context.
I hadn't used a PC or trackers in months, so some things I didn't quite remember, besides having recently found a job, and experimenting again with CheeseCutter, a more complex tracker than GoatTracker, but it has some features that I liked.
For now I will miss the channel again, while I keep trying that program, by the way, did you know that in Colombia we eat chocolate with cheese? It's delicious.

Time Trax (GEN/MD) - Title Screen (C64 8580 Cover) [Oscilloscope View]Esteban Trujillo2022-04-18 | https://csdb.dk/release/?id=216920
"Follin, it was just a game" is the most common comment seen when listening to Tim's (and his brother Geoff's) songs.
Time Trax had a SNES version, and a Genesis/Mega Drive version was in the works, but it never saw the light of day; a pity, because this version had better music than its counterpart. Frantic and master of the FM waves, it's a shame that it was only his only work for the mythical SEGA console, but even so, the internet will be there to preserve this crazy soundtrack.
The title screen has the best theme in the entire game, but also the Mission Briefing is not far behind, an excellent remix of Move Piece from the NES Pictionary.
The idea of doing this cover was born while I was sleeping, it's curious and an irrelevant fact, but there it is. I wanted to implement new instruments, based on those of Jammer and Flex, and the combination was excellent, I had never made a bass as filtered as this one. It's also my first time using the GoatTracker fork, GTUltra by Jason Page. This fork is highly recommended as it has a more digestible interface than GT Classic. I'm sorry if various percussion and ambient elements were cut, they were sacrifices I had to make to complete the cover.

I have decided to reupload this since it was my first release on CSDb, and also because it was selected to participate in the "Commodore Manía 2021 Awards", where the most important releases of the Spanish-speaking community towards the C64 are gathered.
About the song, there is not much I have to add, Sophie has made great compositions for the chiptune, and this is my favorite song of hers, besides being my first experiment with 2SID.

Other interesting covers/Otros covers interesantes
Jeroen Tel, the chiptuner par excellence, a platform that played, made incredible compositions. I did this cover even though two other people have done it before (and they're pretty good), but I wanted to give it my style.
This time I feel like I made a small leap in quality, and I consider this specific cover as the one with the best sound design, and it was also the perfect occasion to test the 6581 chip again, since most of the things I've done for the C64 have been in the 8580.
I'll go back to my cave again, but it was worth studying a little more from the kind SID.
By the way, playback speed is a bit slower than original, tempo stuff between NTSC and PAL.

I start the year on a special date, since the day the video is uploaded, a great colleague in this chiptune thing is celebrating his birthday, and with whom I have known the longest. Since 2017 I ran into him and I have seen his talent germinate, grow, improve and impress remarkably. I hope you enjoy it to the fullest friend! This is one of my favorite songs of his, and although when the pandemic began I had already covered it for the NES, now I wanted to transfer it to the C64, a platform that I continue to learn daily. I feel like he could have been better off using 2 SID chips, but it's the best I could do with 3 channels. Anyway, this year I'll probably be more inactive since I have things to do outside of YouTube, but I'll try to upload things, maybe one a month.

🛫🛫🛫🛫 ¡FELIZ CUMPLEAÑOS SUPERJET SPADE! 🛫🛫🛫🛫
A little cover of an interesting song by the great Alberto González! This time I wanted to make it as faithful as possible to the original, respecting the majority of instruments. I know that the lack of hi hat can make the song lose scope, but it is compensated with a subtle percussion.
I must say that the first time I heard this song, a particular instrument reminded me of the $51 wave (triangle + pulse), that was my main reason for wanting to port it to the fabulous SID, the bass was a bit inspired by the one Doric used Dream in some of her songs.
This is the first formal release under Hokuto Force! The Diegofied was an experiment and mini parody that was well received at the time, which surprised me a lot.
Sorry for the random covers I uploaded a few days ago, I've been experimenting with some things and maybe I'll hide them in the next few days.

1st - The portamento commands do not work well in channel N163, since when converting the song from .nsf to .gbs, it is tuned with the notes of 2a03, causing the vibrato to sometimes not be heard as well, or to move from one note to another happen at different times.
2nd - The noise channel, I really don't like it, it sounds like a fusion of normal + periodic noise, generating a strange mix that I don't like (some songs by Jeroen Tel and the Follin brothers had this same "problem").
Anyway, maybe I'll learn a bit of LSDj, it looks interesting and maybe I can achieve things there, an interesting project is coming up on Game Boy ^^
Based on the cover of RednGreen and original by Yoko Shimomura.
Just pretend that this doesn't exist. I only did it to get to know and try out CheeseCutter, another tracker for making music from C64 and an alternative to GoatTracker. I will not upload this to CSDb, surely there they will criticize me strongly for the simplicity of the cover (or conversion).

A little cover that I did in a couple of hours, I wanted to go back to my origins, I wanted to go back to the NES, a console that I have a lot of affection for. Last cover of the year, I disappeared for a while since I wanted to rest and take care of personal matters. For the next year I will continue experimenting with the C64 and contribute my bit in a wonderful community. The absence of the filter can be missed a bit, but I wanted to do it with more essence of NES. By the way, I recovered 95% of my old stuff in case you are interested, I included a lot of unfinished projects.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Extend a 7-second jingle to a remix of almost 2 minutes: The song
This time I did this cover which is a parody of El Diego, a demo song for NeoGeo composed by Delek and included in Deflemask 1.0.x, and the echo style of the Echofied 6581 demo from Maniacs of Noise. I did this crazy thing using the Polyanna tracker, a very interesting tracker because apart from allowing you to use the 3 normal SID channels, it emulates another 3 or 5 (depending on how you configure it). The PRG eats up pretty much the entire screen, so it's not ideal to use it alongside other things, and the SID was about 13KB in size. This goes for the El Diego cover collab, and I don't know where xd will be used, but I had fun doing it, plus special thanks to Mega Sparkmaster for the help he provided when doing the cover. Anyway, I won't be using Polyanna again for a while ... by the way, I joined the demoscene group Hokuto Force, a situation that raised my spirits on covers to impressive levels.

A new cover, this time made with the misunderstood but great GoatTracker, of a quite interesting song made by the curious Tim Follin for Amiga. I was motivated mainly because the original song uses sampled PWM, and I thought it would sound good on C64, plus the C64 version didn't include this song. I will continue to experiment with tidbits of this tracker and firmly say that here I stay.
