This is a a very sad looking machine that I picked up on the cheap at a flea market and wanted to try making a video, originally about just testing and clean-up/restoration but it also turned into a repair video.
Part 1 covers testing, recapping and repairing the console.
The video is partly an experiment as much as it as about cleaning up/fixing the Atari - I love channels like Odd Tinkering/TysyTube restorations and wanted to emulate a bit of that style (using the equipment I have, at least). The video itself ended up being part 'restoration' style video and part 'recapping guide'. I felt the length was already too much with just the repair/testing, so I split it into two parts and re-edited for, what I hope, is better pacing.
I also wanted to go with the more silent except for working on/cleaning noises as with those types of videos referenced, but the environment had a bit too much random other noises captured (camera mic instead of directional mic, mostly picked up my breathing). There's definitely some things I learned and would do differently / changed later in the video (e.g., setting a higher depth of field coupled with manual/fixed focus).
Hope you enjoy the video! Part 2 will hopefully follow soon - that video will have more of the cleaning and touch up work (a lot of that filming has been done.)

I like to document these events as best I can so others can see what items show up and/or just so others get an idea of the experience. Each event has been a different variety of items. There's a handful of vendors that will have higher prices, but there's still more great deals than not and so much to see.

In this video I reminisce on my first Atari system, when I first picked up this device and take a look at how it works and even what is inside the copy cart!
It seemed like there are no videos on YouTube covering this odd device, so I wanted to put something together to talk about it and show off what it does. There doesn't seem to be a lot of information out there on it, either.
There's probably some areas that could stand a better deep dive, such as more history on the publisher, Vidco. I'm sure some people would like to see the internals of the duplicator as well - I may open that one at some point, but I hate to peel the S/N sticker.
If you enjoy, please leave a like and/or a comment and please share! Let me know what you think in the comments - was there something more you wanted to see or know? I'm still learning my way around making videos.
NOTE: Thanks to user Chip over on Mastadon for this information on that mystery chip in the copy cart: "Some clarification on the chips - the 4011 is a logic chip, a quad NAND. en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Practical_Electronics/IC/4011 8316 is the date code - 16th week of 1983."
