Building on a 20-year legacy of investment in men’s physical and mental health – totalling close to AUD $1 billion globally to-date – the Institute has ambitious goals to tackle preventable deaths head-on.
The Movember Ahead of the Game initiative will support 10,000 young players, parents, and coaches in more than 200 GAA clubs to take part in Movember's mental fitness programme, which teaches an understanding of mental health and helps build the mental fitness to deal with the challenges life and sport can throw.
We got to meet some of the facilitators for the programme, who share why Ahead of the Game is so important.

His takeaway from this experience: "The support I got after coming out about my anxiety and depression just shows no one will judge or think you are weak. It really opened my eyes and made me realize I should've reached out to someone sooner."

Creative director and content creator, Davis “Hitch” Edwards, of OpTic Gaming served as the weekend’s host. “What I’m trying to accomplish is men’s health and mental health awareness – that it’s okay to talk. It’s okay to ask for help. It’s good to come together in a positive light and show that the gaming scene does really care about mental health."

Bob first found Movember through his prostate cancer diagnosis in 2009. He's now known as the 'Mo Bro Guy', and for good reason. Over the last 15 years he's raised just shy of $100,000 for men's health. These funds contributed to ground-breaking research that helped give Bob targeted and personalized prostate cancer treatment.
“I’m living proof that my efforts with Movember have paid off."
We’ve spent over 18 years deep in prostate cancer research and resources, bringing together the best minds in the world to tackle the biggest problems in prostate cancer.
But there’s still a long way to go. Because until prostate cancer stops impacting the lives of men like Bob and everyone around them – we’re not stopping.

The program is delivered by the United Women’s East Africa Support Team (UWEAST), a non-profit public benefit corporation which is aimed at supporting the health needs of the East African community, primarily in the City Heights neighborhood of San Diego.
The UWEAST project team have been able to develop strategies to tackle common problems, including accessing treatment for depression and PTSD and enabling the young men to avoid the cycle of gangs, drugs, and prison.

This wasn't just for the bragging rights. These lads leant on each other, not just to get through the grind but to send a loud message: When times get tough, we've got each other's backs. It's a call to their mates, families, and everyone, to do the same.
Nice one, boys.
