Lumix GH6 - six things you NEED TO KNOW! Chris Bray Photography 2022-08-10 | In 2019 I made the swap from Canon to Lumix, DSLR to Mirrorless, and Full-Frame to Micro Four Thirds, and I've never looked back! For a decade I was a pro Canon DSLR photographer (I was actually Canon's Australian ambassador for 5 years) while mirrorless technology slowly advanced, but by 2009 it was time to sell my Canon EOS-1D X Mark II and swap to the best mirrorless on the market, the Panasonic Lumix GH5. It was groundbreaking for me and instantly brought so many advantages for what I do, not just the high tech features that mirrorless allows but also the huge weight, bulk (and price) savings, and amazing extra-zoom of a 2x crop sensor for wildlife etc. It totally re-energised my photography. I wrote a blog about it, which was then published in Australian Photography magazine: chrisbrayphotography.com/tips/mirrorless_vs_dslr.phpAfter I'd made this swap, Lumix approached me and offered me the role of global ambassador, which I was very proud to accept. Recently, this involved getting my hands on one of the first GH6 cameras in Australia, before stock even reached stores! Night Swim with Worlds Largest Shark - Christmas Island Chris Bray Photography 2019-12-29 | Would you jump in? At the right time of year, this amazing gathering of Manta Rays and Whale Sharks occurs off the coast of Christmas Island in the Indian Ocean. By day you can find whale sharks cruising around, but they are really just filling in time, waiting for the feeding frenzy at night, when the ocean fills with plankton and all the whale sharks gather along the coast - even in the shallows - to feast! Not many people get the chance to do this!
Christmas Island Red Crab Invasion 2019 Chris Bray Photography 2019-12-10 | I stumbled on a new way to capture the famous annual red crab migration here on Christmas Island! These vides are made from a series of photos, each 2 seconds apart, then cumulatively stacked together =) Originally I was just after the final combined image to try and convey the sheer numbers and flow of these crabs as they migrate from their forest burrows down to the coast to spawn (a typical long exposure doesn't work because the road burns through and I just ended up with a very faint, boring red smear where each crab crawled) but just for fun I created a video of the cumulative frames and I think it actually looks kinda cool - a unique view of the crab invasion! The GREAT ESCAPE - Huge Croc vs Wildebeest! Chris Bray Photography 2019-10-12 | Worlds luckiest wildebeest right here! Every year hundreds of thousands of wildebeest and zebra (and some topi) migrate in a loop around from Tanzania to Kenya and back again, but the Mara river stands in their way. Gathering on the banks at multiple places eventually one takes the plunge and starts to swim across and all the rest follow in a one of nature’s greatest spectacles. The river is full of giant Nile Crocodiles like this monster that take many every day, but some, like this wildebeest, manage to escape the jaws of death by mere millimeters! I filmed this in slow motion on my @lumix GH5 while leading this year's photo tour (my 23rd photo tour to Kenya!), pretty amazing to watch all the detail hey! Baby red crabs return! Chris Bray Photography 2018-12-30 | Guess who's back?!! This morning, millions of tiny baby Christmas Island red crabs have started to drift up onto the shoreline around this incredible island! A month ago, the adult crabs all spawned billions of eggs into the sea, and these little guys have been drifting around in the ocean’s currents hoping that they don’t get eaten by lurking whale sharks and also hoping that this will be one of the years when the currents miraculously bring them back to the island just as they start to transform from free-swimming little Megalopes into mini crabs! These guys are the lucky survivors, clambering ashore to head up into the jungle to live out their lives as land crabs, cleaning the forest floor. After they mature in about 5 years, these guys will join the 50-million adult red crabs in their annual migration down to the sea to spawn, in a spectacular event Sir David Attenborough describes as one of the Top 10 natural wonders on Earth. Maybe visit next Dec/Jan/Feb and stay at the luxurious new eco-retreat Swell Lodge on the coast inside the national park to be right in the heart of this extraordinary event!
Cheetah Leaps on Vehicle! Everyones Reaction is Priceless! Chris Bray Photography 2018-12-14 | When this wild cheetah started walking towards our safari vehicle in Kenya, everyone thought she was going to pass behind. From our other vehicle, I was filming, just in case... The reaction from all our photo tour guests is pretty funny! Everyone was told to move slowly, and if she actually came inside, to remain completely still until she'd leapt back out. Cheetah are pretty docile and not aggressive towards people at all (unlike say a leopard) but if she freaked out inside the vehicle trying to get out, I wouldn't want to be in her way! The rangers told us that she has occasionally jumped on other vehicles before, probably just to get a good view of her surroundings. Amazing experience.

Christmas Island Baby Red Crab Return Dec 2016 Chris Bray Photography 2017-02-16 | Every year on Australia's Christmas Island, 50 million red crabs leave their forest burrows and migrate on mass down to the coast to spawn into the sea. Epic Fight Between Two Komodo Dragons Chris Bray Photography 2016-07-03 | Even in my line of work running wildlife photography tours around the world, it's not every day I see a dragon, let alone two big male dragons, fighting, right beside me! Although they didn't have wings and were spitting venom rather than fire, the sheer scaly bulk of these two 80-90 kg male Komodo Dragons battling it out so close that I had to back away, was enough to momentarily transport me back to the Jurassic Period, if not the pages of fiction! This was just a few days ago on Rinca Island, in the Komodo National Park. Of course, I left a GoPro (and a 360-degree Theta S camera) in amongst it all and got some awesome footage! Enjoy!

Dick Smiths India Story - Chris & Jess Bray find 1 homeless girl in 1.25 billion! Chris Bray Photography 2016-02-22 | SHARE THE VIDEO! Traveling India by train in Nov 2015, Dick Smith passed a homeless family living under a bridge, including a young girl wearing nothing but a pink bracelet. He snapped some pics on his iPhone, noted down the GPS position and asked Jess and I if we'd like to go to India, try and find this same girl & her family, help them into accommodation, secure the girl an education, buy them life's basics and open her a bank account for Dick to regularly deposit into - all in three days! The slideshow of our story went viral on Facebook with over 100,000 shares during Christmas, live radio interviews around Australia and the story was in major papers around the world. I sent my camera in to find out, and the results - bought by National Geographic, GoPro and Discovery Channel - are spectacular! Don't try this at home! P.S. This combination of clips was filmed over 18 photo safaris to Kenya, only after our guests had finished taking photos and where we could safely drive the camera-equipped toy car into a position where the animal could see it, and choose to come towards it out of curiosity. No animals were harassed or harmed, and amazingly, no cameras were even broken - watch to the very end for an amazing example!
