The ONLY Giza Pyramidion and ANOTHER Lost Pyramid | Ancient Architects

Ancient Architects 2024-10-15 | In my last video we looked at one of the few Giza pyramids that has been lost to time – the satellite pyramid of Khafre known as G2-A, once located to the south of the second largest pyramid on the plateau.

For the age of this enigmatic archaeological landscape, it really is amazing that so many structures have stood the test of time, but that’s why I’m actually interested to know what’s missing. What are we not seeing? If we walk across the Giza Plateau, what’s disappeared from the landscape?

Many of you may be surprised to learn that the satellite pyramid of Khafre is not the only missing pyramid of Giza; there is another one, and it once sat within the shadow of the Great Pyramid.

The Great Pyramid of Khufu has four smaller associated pyramids, not three as you may think, and these are known as pyramids G1-a, b, c and d. The first three still remain today, are all of a similar size and are located to east of the Great Pyramid – south of the Khufu causeway.

But the superstructure of the fourth one, Pyramid G1-D has been completely dismantled, so much so that it wasn’t even discovered until as recent as 1992.

The MISSING Pyramid of Giza & The Mysterious SEALED Wooden Box | Ancient Architects

Ancient Architects 2024-10-12 | The Giza Plateau is arguably the most famous historic site in the world, with the astonishing pyramid complexes of Khufu, Khafre and Menkaure, and of course the magnificent Great Sphinx.

Of course, today, Giza is nothing compared to how it would have looked in the 4th dynasty, in the golden era of Egyptian history when these monuments were first constructed, but it’s amazing that these monuments have stood the test of time.

Although the pyramid casing stones have all but disappeared, although many of the limestone has been sandblasted by the desert winds, although these ancient structures have been explored, sometimes dynamited, looted and excavated, it’s incredible that so much has survived on the Giza Plateau, preserved so tourists can get up close and personal with these seemingly impossible achievements of our ancestors.

But although many of the 4th dynasty monuments remain, one of them is certainly missing: pyramid G2-A.

Pyramid G2-A, or GII-A, was completely robbed of its stone. It had two descending passageways, one of which wasn’t found until 1960. Three plug blocks were still in place and on their removal, inside was found a large, sealed wooden box. What was inside? Watch this video to find out!

The Discovery of ‘The Tomb of Osiris’ in Egypt: January 1st, 1898 | Ancient Architects

Ancient Architects 2024-10-10 | The year is 1898 and we’re at Umm El Qa’ab in Abydos where Emile Amélineau is leading an important excavation. At this time, knowledge on the history and culture of Ancient Egypt is limited but growing, with so many important sites still yet to be excavated.

But an incredible find seemingly spoke for itself and French archaeologist Emile Amélineau believed he had discovered the true tomb of Osiris. He published his findings in 1899, in a book titled: “The Tomb of Osiris” and it seemed he had the physical evidence to back up his claims.

But did he? What happened to this exciting discovery and why is it not more known about today? Watch this video to learn about the fascinating story of discovery.

Giza BEFORE the Pyramids: Lost History REVEALED

Ancient Architects 2024-10-08 | The history of Giza before the 4th Dynasty pyramids were constructed is rarely discussed, and is often overlooked or completely disregarded, but in my opinion, the origins of Giza is a subject that should be studied more widely.

A pre-4th dynasty history of Giza is not easy to study for obvious reasons. It’s not just because of the lack of excavations and publications in the modern world; it’s also because Khufu, Khafre and Menkaure would have cleared the vast majority of pre-existing structures to make way for their funerary complexes. On top of that we have more activity at Giza in the 18th, 19th, 21st and 26th dynasties. The Greeks and the Romans were also at Giza.

Due to the colossal size of the pyramids, obviously Giza would have been a focal point for locals and outsiders ever since they were constructed. Therefore, finding evidence for activity before they were built is no easy task.

But there is more to find and I know exactly where to look.

Thanks to the work of Peter Der Manuelian and Diane Victoria Flores, we now know that George A. Reisner discovered Pre-Khufu archaeology to the west of the Great Pyramid - a now lost and buried site known as the Wadi Cemetery. Watch this video to learn more as the lost history of Giza is revealed.

NEW DISCOVERIES: 10,000-Year-Old Finds at Göbekli Tepe Sister Site!

Ancient Architects 2024-10-05 | Gobekli Tepe and Karahan Tepe are two of the twelve Tas Tepeler sites of SE Turkey and right now we know far more about these two compared to the other ten. Therefore, I for one am happy to see that archaeological resources are being spread out across the region.

Of all the 12, the most easterly site is Sefer Tepe, and that’s the site I’m reporting on today because some fantastic new discoveries have been made.

In this video, I'll first give you some background regarding this ancient 10,000 to 11,000-year-old Pre-Pottery Neolithic site, and then I'll tell you about the fantastic new discoveries from the 2024 excavation season.

Egypt’s Failed Pyramid: What Happened to the Black Pyramid of Amenemhat III?

Ancient Architects 2024-09-30 | Egypt is famed for its incredible array of pyramids, and although they are long standing symbols of the ingenuity of the ancient architects and builders, one pyramid really stands out as a great pyramid disaster.

I’m talking about the badly weathered and eroded Black Pyramid of Amenemhat III, the lob-sided monstrosity of the Egyptian skyline.

All that remains today of this Middle Kingdom pyramid is a ruinous mound of mudbrick, with most of the outer backing and casing stone taken and re-used. But why is it like this?

The project was a disaster right from the start and in this video, I'll tell you example what happened.

The Truth Behind the Floating Pyramid of Egypt | Ancient Architects

Ancient Architects 2024-09-24 | "Surrounded by a mysterious trench, only one Egyptian pyramid was ever constructed to look like it floats on water; experts decode the ancient secrets of the pyramid that are locked inside its hidden tunnels."

That was the blurb for Season 8 Episode 8 of the Science Channel’s Unearthed, which first aired in January 2021, an episode called 'Egypt’s Floating Pyramid', that being the Pyramid of Senusret II.

It’s the same pyramid I featured in my last video, located at El Lahun, in the Faiyum region of Egypt.

The Unearthed documentary features many credible Egyptologists and archaeologists, it’s presented as real archaeology – factual and accurate – and the whole concept of a floating pyramid illusion is something I had never heard of before.

Of course I wanted to investigate further, and I’m glad I did.

And to clarify, of course the show was not literally implying a floating pyramid, but a pyramid complex that was completely submerged with Nile floodwaters – by design – by order of Pharaoh Senusret II.

But are the claims fact or fiction? Is there really any evidence that the mighty pharaoh wanted to create the illusion of a floating pyramid? Watch the video to find out.

NEW Discovery! Pharaoh Ramesses II Bronze Sword & Military Barracks | Ancient Architects

Ancient Architects 2024-09-12 | As reported on the Egyptian Ministry of Antiquities and Tourism this week, a huge new discovery has been made, in a mission led by archaeologist Dr. Ahmed Said El-Kharadly.

A series of mudbrick structures have been discovered, dating back to the reign of Pharaoh Ramesses II of the 19th Dynasty. They were found at the Tell Al-Abqain site in the country’s coastal Baheira Governorate.

These structures were military barracks for soldiers, and store rooms for weapons, food and provisions and the major find was a bronze sword, inscribed with the cartouche of Rameses the Great.

11,000-Year-old MEGA-SITE: The Mystery of Tell ‘Abr 3 | Ancient Architects

Ancient Architects 2024-09-11 | The Pre-Pottery Neolithic A was a period of time spanning 9,600 to 8,700 BC. It was a culture with circular-based architecture, distinctive chipped stone artefacts, cup-hole mortars and shallow burials below the floors of structures.

The Pre-Pottery Neolithic A, or PPNA, was succeeded by the PPNB, where rectangular structures became common. There were new types of stone points and we start to see evidence for domesticated plants and animals.

Göbekli Tepe spanned both periods, and although it's the most famous Pre-Pottery Neolithic site in the Fertile Crescent, it's certainly not the only one. There are dozens, and some of them are huge, including Karahan Tepe, Mureybet and Jerf el Ahmar.

But I’m sure many of you will never have heard of one huge Pre-Pottery Neolithic A site, with mysterious artefacts and fantastic examples of ancient architecture. It is known as Tell ‘Abr 3, which started to be excavated more than 20 years ago. This little-talked about site is truly fascinating, and contains some incredible examples of Pre-Pottery Neolithic architecture and artefacts. A must watch for people with an interest in Göbekli Tepe!

11,000-Year-Old Mystery Solved? Karahan Tepe New Hypothesis‼️

Ancient Architects 2024-09-05 | The Pre-Pottery Neolithic is such a remote era in the human story, a period of time spanning 11,600 and 9,000 years ago, and although many of you may have heard about one particular site from this time, that being the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Göbekli Tepe – you may be surprised to learn there are in fact dozens.

Göbekli Tepe is the most famous, and it’s also one of the largest, but just 36 km away there is another huge site. This of course is Karahan Tepe, a site that’s been excavated for the past few years and the findings have been nothing short of astonishing. I have many videos you can watch for some background information, including site walkthroughs, drone footage, and excavation updates. I've left some links below.

Regarding Karahan Tepe and the Pre-Pottery Neolithic, one of the biggest mysteries for me has always been Building AB – the pillared structure, because it is just so unique. We don’t find another structure like this anywhere else, and it’s right in the heart of the site.

So what is it? Why does it have such a bizarre and unique form? Was it a functional space, or was it ritual? In this video I present a brand new hypothesis for Building AB and if I'm right, it could be the world's oldest type of the structure found anywhere in the world.

Ancient Megalithic Marvel Discovered in Kazakhstan!

Ancient Architects 2024-09-03 | An Ancient Megalithic stone structure has been discovered in Kazakhstan, and it looks to have been linked to gold mining activities, all the way back in the 2nd millennium BC.

Researchers think it may have been a place of worship for the miners. The monument is known as “Taskamal”, meaning Stone Fortress.

The architecture here is complex and fascinating. We find a massive megalithic wall made of large blocks of granite, and in the centre of the site is an elevated platform. There are well-made access ramps, stone stelae, petroglyphs and reliefs.

Close by there are ancient cemeteries, more sites, and 90 ancient gold mines.

NEW Discovery at 11,400-Year-Old Karahan Tepe | 2024 Archaeology Update

Ancient Architects 2024-09-01 | The new excavation season in Southeastern Anatolia is well underway, with work continuing at ten Taş Tepeler sites, including Göbekli Tepe and its sister site, Karahan Tepe, both of which have origins dating back to 11 and a half thousand years ago.

This year, archaeologists are working on the structures that surround the main heart of the site, that being the communal, special purpose Building, AD. It’s in this building where archaeologists came across a beautiful and rare carving of a running, wild donkey.

Göbekli Tepe Latest: NEW 2024 Archaeology Update, Discoveries & Theories

Ancient Architects 2024-08-28 | The ancient Pre-Pottery Neolithic site of Göbekli Tepe is one of the true hot topics for those interested in archaeology, and that’s for any number of reasons. It has an incredible age, with origins going back to around 11 and a half thousand years ago. The size of the site is enormous, and the amazing megalithic pillars are huge, and the associated relief carvings are breathtaking.

And there is still so much more to Göbekli Tepe, and I have a whole playlist of videos you can watch to learn more.

RARE Great Pyramid Historic Photographs + Ancient Egypt | Ancient Architects

Ancient Architects 2024-08-19 | In Part 1 of this two-part mini-series I showed some rare photographs from The Sphinx Excavations of the 1920s, 30s, 70s and 80s, and in this video, I’ll be showing you even more rare historic photographs of Ancient Egypt, so we can see how things looked before modern restoration and renovation.

This video came about thanks to Artimus Freeman, a collector of historical items, who sent me pictures from a collection of stereo cards he once owned, all of which relate to Ancient Egypt.

The pictures date from roughly 1890 to 1902, well over 100 years old, with a few later pictures from the 1930s. Although I have seen some pictures elsewhere online, some of the stereo cards are certainly unique.

I have since worked to find even more images from the same time period and have put them into a collection for this video.

Since most of these very old and rare photographs relate to the Great Pyramid and the Sphinx, I decided to split the gallery up in a certain way. First, we’ll look at pictures from outside the pyramid. Then we’ll take a look at some rare photographs from the inside, before heading to the Sphinx.

To finish, I’ll show some anomalous photographs from Egypt - of other sites of interest, but just about all the pictures will be more than 100 years old. I have already noted a number of curious observations myself and I’m sure you’ll be able to do the same, so please do comment your thoughts below.

NEW | Stonehenge Altar Stone 500 MILE Journey: Did Humans REALLY Move it?

Ancient Architects 2024-08-16 | You have probably all seen the news this week, that the six-tonne altar stone of Stonehenge came from the north of Scotland, not from the Marlborough Downs like the huge sarsen stones, and not from Wales, like the smaller bluestones.

Yes, the stone at the heart of Stonehenge came from 500 miles away, from the very north of Great Britain.

But how did it get there? On X this week, archaeologist Mike Pitts said it was "impossible" the stone was a glacial erratic, and therefore it must have been moved 500 miles by humans. But is the correct? Can such a bold statement be made? Watch this video to learn more.

RARE Sphinx Excavation Photographs Revealed | Ancient Architects

Ancient Architects 2024-08-12 | The Great Sphinx of Egypt has fascinated humanity for millennia and even today, this lion bodied monument with the head of a pharoah, still remains a monument shrouded in mystery and wonder.

It sits in front of the three large Giza pyramids from the 4th Dynasty of the Old Kingdom, and throughout Ancient Egyptian times, it was been subject to a large amount of restoration, with much of the body covered by masonry. The Greek and the Romans also worked on the monument.

Buried in the sands of time, it was finally excavated in the 19th century, first by Henry Salt and Giovanni Caviglia, and then by Howard Vyse and Giovanni Caviglia. In the late 19th century, Gaston Maspero worked on the Sphinx, and then, from 1925 to 1936, Emile Baraize and Selim Hassan did a huge amount of work.

In this video, I’ve compiled photographs taken during the excavations in the 1920s and 30s, followed by pictures taken by Mark Lehner from later work in the 1970s and 1980s.

12,000-Years-Old! YOUNGER DRYAS Site of Çakmaktepe: 2024 Taş Tepeler Update

Ancient Architects 2024-08-08 | Precisely 60 km due west of Karahan Tepe is one of the 12 Tas Tepeler sites of SE Anatolia, a site with origins older than Göbeklitepe, Karahantepe, Harbetsuvan Tepesi, Sefer Tepe and Sayburç.

This is Cakmaktepe, an early Pre-Pottery Neolithic A site that was discovered using satellite image analysis in 2021. In the same year it was discovered, excavation work began, a joint project by archaeologists from Çukurova University and Şanlıurfa Museum, part of the Tas Tepeler Project. In 2022, the University of Tsukuba, Japan, was also included in the excavations.

I made a video on this long-lost settlement 2 years ago, but with more excavation and new published information, I thought it was time to re-visit Cakmaktepe, and give you an up-to-date overview of this very important site.

UNSOLVED MYSTERY: The Unknown Origins of the Guyaju Caves in China | Ancient Architects

Ancient Architects 2024-08-06 | There are many mysterious ancient wonders of the world, from the Giza pyramids to Gobekli Tepe, Sacsayhuman and so on, but whether you believe the archaeological and historical interpretations or an alternative idea, there is always some evidence to draw upon. The same can’t really be said for the subject of this video.

The Guyaju Caves is a cave complex found on the slopes of the Tianhuang Mountain in the Yanging District of China and comprises a system of 117 caves, 350 chambers, covering an area of around 24.7 acres or 100,000 square metres.

Located around 50 miles or 80 kilometres northwest of Beijing, this site is carved out of solid granite and was only discovered in 1984. They are a true mystery of the ancient world because experts have found no dateable archaeological evidence at the site and it has never been mentioned in any historical literature.

World’s OLDEST Map? Secrets of a 4,000-Year-Old TREASURE Map | Ancient Architects

Ancient Architects 2024-08-02 | The Saint-Belec slab is a stone artefact discovered in 1900 in western Brittany, France, and is thought to be a map of an early Bronze Age principality.

It was found by Paul du Chatellier in a prehistoric burial ground in Finistere, where it formed part of an early Bronze Age cist structure.

Experts have now deemed this a treasure map and they're close to revealing its secrets, matching up the features on the slab with those on modern maps. Watch this video to learn more!

12,000-Year-Old Shamans Burial Discovered at Çemka Höyük | Ancient Architects

Ancient Architects 2024-07-31 | Çemka Höyük is an archaeologicial site in SE Turkiye, dating back to between 12,000 and 8,800 years ago, an important site that provides clues about the transition from the hunter-gatherer lifestyle to agriculture.

It’s located within the borders of Ilisu village in the Mardin Province of Southeastern Turkey, around 1,100 metres southwest of the Ilisu Dam on the Tigris River. According to past news reports, the dam road works severely damaged the ancient site in many places, but thankfully some fantastic archaeology remains.

At the site, a human skeleton was discovered, dating back to the 10th millennium BC. It’s of a female and she’s accompanied by animal skeletal remains, which leads people to believe that this woman was a shaman, or was at least buried by someone practicing ways associated with what we understand nowadays as animism or shamanism.

The Mystery of Göbekli Tepe Skeletonised Statues: What Does it Mean?

Ancient Architects 2024-07-26 | For anyone looking into the ancient Tas Tepeler settlements of SE Anatolia, the enigmatic T-shaped pillars are often the main focus of study,

These pillars of limestone are found at Sayburc, Kurt Tepe, Harbetsuvan Tepesi, Karahan Tepe and of course Gobekli Tepe and the relief carvings on their surfaces have truly captivated researchers for the past three decades.

But it’s because of the pillars that statues and statuettes often get overlooked, but they could give us a unique insight into the lives of the people that lived in this region 10-12,000 years ago.

Each statue and statue fragment that’s been discovered is unique. Some are solitary animals, some are human figures, some are composite statues arranged in a totem-like way, and some include more than one human.

Due to the varied intricacies, I could make a separate video for each statue that’s been discovered, but today I want to focus on one specific commonality, and that is the fact that ribs and other bones are often emphasised on these amazing artistic expressions.

It's seen on both human and animal statues and statuettes, but what does it mean? Were the ancient people of Göbekli Tepe and Karahan Tepe starving to death? Are they depicting deceased humans and animals? Is it just stylistic, or is there a shamanic, ritual and religious meaning? Watch the video to learn more.

Ancient Architects 2024-07-22 | Whilst I’m studying the Giza plateau, I thought I’d take a short break from my research to present something I’ve come across, as many of you may never have heard of it before – and it’s directly related to the Great Pyramid of Egypt.

There is a structure, well a substructure, cut into the bedrock, near the southeastern corner of the Great Pyramid, and it has been referred to as the Neben Pyramide, which I believe means ‘secondary pyramid’ in German.

Now, this is only a short video because, quite frankly, there is next to no information available, no video footage, and no photographs as far as I can see, and so I’m left with little to show of it except a few old diagrams.

But that doesn't make this substructure any less interesting or mysterious and so, in this video, I'll give you all of the information available, as well as the possible explanations as to what the 'Nebenpyramide' structure could have been.

12,890-Years-Old! YOUNGER DRYAS Settlement of Tell Qaramel | Ancient Architects

Ancient Architects 2024-07-18 | When studying the ancient Pre-Pottery Neolithic sites of the Fertile Crescent, Göbekli Tepe, Karahan Tepe and Jericho get the most attention – for good reason – they display incredible architecture and are also truly ancient, between 10 and 12,000-years-old.

But there is one site that so many have never even heard of, one that is even older than those mentioned, and one that is even more important. It displays some truly magnificent examples of ancient stone architecture and artefacts, a Proto-Neolithic settlement with continuous occupation for 2,000 years, with origins before the Younger Dryas and then continuous occupation during and after - charting the evolution of the Pre-Pottery Neolithic in one specific location.

This site is Tell Qaramel, located in Northern Syria, around 25km north of Aleppo, 175km to the southwest of Göbekli Tepe. It’s on the western bank of the River Qoueiq, very much in the Fertile Crescent, a site with truly ancient origins, yet experts have still only excavated a tiny portion of this ancient site.

After learning about this site over Christmas, I’m astonished it hasn’t been mentioned by popular authors because anybody with an interest in sites like Gobekli Tepe, Karahan Tepe and Jericho - anybody trying to interpret the origins of civilisation - must at the very least mention Tell Qaramel. Cracking the Göbekli Tepe Code: New Hypothesis | Ancient Architects

Ancient Architects 2024-07-12 | Ever since it came to light what was buried beneath the mound of Gobekli Tepe, the site has become one of the most talked about places in the world, because of a) its prehistoric age, b) its vast size, c) the magnificent megalithic structures and d) the incredible iconography etched in stone.

The unique archaeological finds have truly captured our imaginations, with the decorated T-shaped pillars quickly becoming an ancient wonder in their own right.

The iconography is fascinating and for a long-lost culture who had not yet developed writing, these pillars and a few associated statues and stone artefacts, are the only record of the civilisation they left behind.

But what are the pictures portraying? What were the ancient people trying to tell us? I find it frustrating that I don’t know with any certainty and every seemingly decent idea I’ve come across leaves me with nagging questions and reasonable doubt in their accuracy.

But now, after extensive reading, personal research and brainstorming, I think I’m finally onto something and so, in this video, which is part 1 of what will be a 2 or 3-part mini-series over the coming weeks and months, it’s time to take a look at the detail.

It's thanks to the work of Professor Dragoş Gheorghiu (linked below, which I think has taken the understanding of the pillars to the next level. His work on Göbekli Tepe is up there with the very best, yet most people have never heard of it.

He has worked to identify the animals on the pillars and in doing so, he is, in my opinion, on the right track to a logical and realistic interpretation. Watch the video to learn more!

51,200-YEARS-OLD! The Oldest Narrative Cave Art EVER Discovered

Ancient Architects 2024-07-09 | An incredible piece of art from a cave in Sulawesi, Indonesia, has been unveiled as the oldest-known narrative cave art ever discovered, dating back to at least 51,200 years ago.

The find re-writes the timeline of human artistic expression and shows us the advanced storytelling abilities of our very ancient ancestors.

5,000-Year-Old Sacred Site & Pyramid Structure Discovered in Peru

Ancient Architects 2024-07-08 | A team of archaeologists working on Las Animas Hill in the lush dry desert of La Otra Banda in Northern Peru have discovered two ceremonial structures, one of which dates back to the Moche Culture, between 600 and 700 AD, and the other from the Initial Period, which dates to an ancient 3,500 BC.

A human child burial, artefacts, painted walls and high relief friezes have also been discovered, and both structures appear to be ceremonial in purpose.

AMAZING 11,000-Year-Old Concrete / Artificial Stone at Göbekli Tepe: Ancient Lost Technology

Ancient Architects 2024-07-05 | Terrazzo is a composite material, poured in place or pre-cast, a type of ancient man-made artificial concrete, made with limestone fragments embedded in a lime mortar.

This 'artificial stone' mixture, what some call a geopolymer, was used between 11,000 to 12,000 years ago, a genuine ancient technology and innovation before humans had even invented pottery and is found at Göbekli Tepe, Çayönü Tepesi and Nevali Çori, and as I show in this video, I believe it was also used at Karahan Tepe.

Crushed limestone in the mortar gave the floors added strength and also a mottled appearance but the ancient people would have had to manufacture the lime mortar first of all.

When the terrazzo floor of Çayönü was analysed, the mortar contained burned and slaked limestone, which was produced using extremely high temperatures, around 870 degrees, meaning there must have been kilns to fire the crushed limestone.

This video is a fascinating and fact-based look at how the Pre-Pottery Neolithic people of ancient Anatolia made amazing stone-like floors in special buildings, many thousands and thousands of years ago.

Göbekli Tepe Scandal: Ancient Statue STOLEN During Excavations!

Ancient Architects 2024-06-28 | On the night of September 25th, 2010, a crime happened at Göbekli Tepe – a priceless one-of-a-kind artefact was stolen from the site, and as far as I’m aware it has never been recovered.

On its doiscovery inside Enclosure C, the statue was estimated to be around 11,000-years-old and it portrays a tall human head and some kind of predatory animal on top of it, likely a vulture.

But 14 years after its discovery and theft, the statue has never been recovered. Watch this video to learn the full story.

The Buried Man of Göbekli Tepe: Amazing Finds in Enclosure F

Many of you will already know a lot about the 11,600-year-old site of Göbekli Tepe, with its oval enclosures, its ornately-carved T-shaped pillars, and the fact we have an incredibly sophisticated settlement at the very beginning of the Holocene.

But many of you will not have heard about Enclosure F. It's something not often discussed, and that’s because until recently, it seems there wasn’t a lot published.

But in 2023, Oliver Dietrich and Julia Wagner published a paper, titled “Early Neolithic imagery in flux. A case study on the reliefs of Building F at Gobekli Tepe, southeastern Turkey.”

So far, two-thirds of this enclosure have been excavated and eight pillars have been identified. Not only do these pillars tell us a great deal about the history of Göbekli Tepe, but one pillar in particular stands out.

It's known as Pillar 74, and on it is portrayed a man, whom I've called 'The Buried Man of Göbekli Tepe' - the only full-bodied human to be depicted on a T-shaped Pillar.

The Final Evolution of the Pyramids: From Man-Made Marvels to Natural Wonders

Ancient Architects 2024-06-15 | The symbolism in Ancient Egyptian culture was complicated, but the pyramid shape certainly has a deep and important meaning, related to the Primordial Mound, the Heliopolis Benben Stone, the Bennu bird, the creator god, the sun god and the god of rebirth and regeneration.

It’s therefore no surprise that it was a custom in the Old Kingdom for a king to build his own pyramid, royal construction projects that continued in the Middle Kingdom.

But why did pyramid-building come to an end? Well, the pyramid evolved. It went from a constructed stone monument, to a mudbrick monument and ended up as a monument built by nature.

Natural pyramids were the final evolution of the Egyptian pyramid, with the most famous example being El-Qurn, the huge natural pyramid that sits above the famous Valley of the Kings necropolis.

Mysterious 4,000-year-old Minoan Hilltop Structure Discovered | Ancient Architects

Ancient Architects 2024-06-13 | A large, circular 4,000-year-old stone building has been discovered on a Cretan hilltop, an amazing and unexpected find that looks to disrupt a major airport project on the Greek island.

It belongs to the powerful Minoan civilisation. From above the new discovery looks like a large wheel. It’s a labyrinthine building covering an area of 1,800-square-metres or 19,000-square-feet.

Lost Pyramid Hidden in Plain Sight at the Valley of the Kings

Ancient Architects 2024-06-08 | The last royal pyramid to be built in Egypt was that of Ahmose I, the founder of the New Kingdom, first king of the famous and powerful 18th Dynasty.

But recently, in my research, I came across something I had never heard of before. It’s known as the Abydos Stela of Tuthmose I. It was found in excavations at the Great Temple of Osiris in the Kom el Sultan region of Abydos.

It is a memorial stone made from sandstone, recording the king’s works in the temple but it mentions something very curious, that Thutmose I, the 3rd king of the famous 18th Dynasty of New Kingdom Egypt, had a pyramid.

But where could it be? Has it long been destroyed and removed from the landscape? Did it even exist? Or could it be hiding in plain sight?

The Last Royal Pyramid of Egypt + it was NOT a Tomb!

Ancient Architects 2024-06-04 | Ahmose I was the first king of the Ancient Egyptian New Kingdom, the man who defeated the Hyksos ruling elite of the second intermediate period, but although he is one of the most important and influential kings of Egyptian history, many of you may never have heard of him.

Yet he was responsible for re-unifing Egypt. He then led military conquests into the Near East and Nubia, expanding the kingdom’s territory.

But what many don’t know is that he even built a pyramid more than 1,000 years after the Giza complex was complete. The Pyramid of Ahmose is the last royal pyramid to be built in Egypt, and it was built at the beginning of a brand-new era of history.

Watch this video to learn all about the Pyramid complex of Ahmose I, which although a cult centre for Ahmose and a place to venerate this important king, the pyramid was certainly never his tomb.

Scientifically Dating Göbekli Tepe: How Old REALLY Is It? | Ancient Architects

Ancient Architects 2024-05-28 | I’ve seen a few comments in the past few days that have questioned the dating of Göbekli Tepe with some people believing the site is much older and some believing it’s much younger. Some people have even said how they’ve never seen any radiocarbon data published.

Well, a simple Google search not only brings up a blog post about the subject by the German Archaeological institute, but also a paper by archaeologist Oliver Dietrich, so the information is available if you really want to find it. Accurate data is even listed on Wikipedia. These links are all listed below.

Even though the information is not hard to find, I thought I’d put together a short video anyway to give a brief overview of what we know.

Before archaeologists conducted radiocarbon dating, the specific types of archaeological projectile points and lithics gave a clear indication of the age of the site, types and forms of artefacts that are well understood and dated from other sites in the region.

Of course though, radiocarbon dating was also undertaken and in this video I go through exactly what we know so far, although more dates have also been collated and are yet unpublished. Watch this video to learn more.

LOST Pyramid Branch of the River Nile Discovered + Hawass Not Happy | Ancient Architects

Ancient Architects 2024-05-22 | Many of you will have seen the recent news that a long-lost branch of the River Nile has been discovered, or should I saw 'confirmed'.

It ran through the Nile floodplain on its western side and passed by more than 30 pyramids and the experts are saying it solves the mystery of how stone blocks were transported to each construction site.

Now, anybody that studies Ancient Egypt will know that a long-lost westerly branch of the Nile, is in fact no surprise. For a start, the Valley Temples at the end of each pyramid causeway had to terminate on the banks of a body of water, and so mapping each of the valley temples pretty much maps the position of a missing waterway.

This has been known about for decades, but now scientists have confirmed it, using radar satellite data, geomorphology, geophysical surveys and soil coring.

Machu Picchu is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the world, a true bucket list location with its incredible, atmospheric setting, high up in the Peruvian mountains.

But it’s not the only Inca settlement built in clouds and there is one stunning edifice that barely anybody talks about, and that is Waqra Pukara.

Meaning the ‘horned fortress’, this stunning site is roughly 1,700 metres higher than Machu Picchu, which is located around 130km away to the north west.

The site displays clear natural beauty, but we also find the ruins of historic Inca architecture. But archaeologists have discovered that Waqra Pukara has a Pre-Inca origin, and could have been occupied as far back as 1500 BC.

Incredible 14,300-Year-Old Major Natufian Settlement | Ancient Architects

Ancient Architects 2024-05-15 | The Natufian Culture occupies a special place in the evolution of human societies in the Near East. This culture occupied the Levant from 15,000 to 11,500 years ago and covered a wide area, living in seasonal camps, sedentary and semi-sedentary settlements.

These are the people that started agricultural practices; they made bread and brewed beer. They created organised settlements, built structures from stone and wood, made intricate art and figurines and used flint, chert, basalt and bone to made effective tools.

In this video I’m going to shed further light on this culture, and showcase one incredible Natufian settlement in particular. I’ll give you an overview of what archaeologists have found at the 14,300-year-old settlement called Ain Mahalla, or Eynan, which is found in Upper Galilee on the shores of Lake Hula.

Mysterious 12,000-YEAR-OLD Natufian ‘Shaman’ Burial Discovery

Ancient Architects 2024-05-07 | The Natufians were a Late Epi-Paleolithic culture, who occupied the Levant in Western Asia from around 15,000 to 11,500 years ago.

It was a culture that were developing new skills and practices, it was a time of real socioeconomic change, as the Natufians were laying the groundwork for what was to come next in the Neolithic. It was the transition period from foraging to farming.

The Natufian people were great builders. They were artists and tool makers, had a microlithic industry, and made everyday implements by working various types of stone, from hard basalt to soft limestone and siltstone.

They also buried their dead. So far, in total more than 400 Natufian burials have been found and excavated, and we can see that this culture marks significant change in human burial practices.

And the burial site being discussed today is completely unique. Nothing else from the Natufian culture is similar, and there is nothing like it in the preceding Palaeolithic Period.

In this video we're looking at the grave of what experts call a Natufian shaman, a woman who was buried with some truly amazing grave goods, and who must have held an important position in the Natufian culture, 12,000 years ago.

3,000 Years OLDER Than Göbekli Tepe: 14,500-Year-Old Largest Natufian Enclosure

Ancient Architects 2024-05-01 | Karahan Tepe is one of the most mind-blowing sites of the ancient world, with origins dating back to around 11,400 years ago.

The size and scale of the settlement is impressive, but the architectural feats are what really excite the imagination. They are incredible – intricate, carefully planned and well-made. They were built by people who knew exactly what they were doing.

But how did they know how to do it?

It looks like they had a well-planned, well-developed, tried and tested method of construction, and obviously it worked, because we know the building was in use for many generations, and the key structural elements still survive today, thousands of years later.

Some claim the enclosures appeared almost as if by magic, with the people of ancient Anatolia transitioning from primitive hunter-gatherers to gifted engineers and builders, almost overnight. It like more advanced people came to teach the primitive people how to do it.

But as I’ve showed over the past few years on this channel, there was no giant leap in knowledge, and there are many pre-cursor sites all over the Fertile Crescent and beyond.

Wadi Hammeh 27 is one such site. It dates back to 14,500 years ago, meaning it's 3,000 years older than Karahan Tepe and Gobekli Tepe. Experts believed it was a kind of base camp to the ancient Natufian people, a forerunner of the sedentary settlements we find in the Pre-Pottery Neolithic.

In this video, I'm going to take a look at Structure 2 in Wadi Hammeh 27, and compare it to Structure AD of Karahan Tepe, to hopefully show how people already had the skills, technology and knowhow to build complex structures, thousands of years before Gobekli Tepe and Karahan Tepe.

23,000-Year-Old Settlement & Earliest Cultivation: Ohalo II | Ancient Architects

Ancient Architects 2024-04-25 | There’s an archaeological site in Northern Israel, situated on the southwestern shore of the Sea of Galilee and it’s one of the most fascinating and important ancient sites that hardly anyone has ever heard of.

It’s one of the best-preserved hunter-gatherer sites of the Last Glacial Maximum, yes, we’re talking about a site 23,000 years old.

It’s called Ohalo II, and it wasn’t a mere seasonal camp, it was a permanent settlement, occupied throughout the year – and for many generations, which, in the current state of knowledge, is somewhat unique for a site so old.

But it’s what was discovered at the site that makes it so incredible. It contains two things that today, with the current level of research, can be called the ‘world’s oldest’.

Firstly, it has the world’s oldest brush dwellings, but also, and most importantly, it contains evidence of the world’s oldest small-scale plant cultivation, some 11,000 years before the onset of agriculture in the Fertile Crescent.

The Milky Way in Ancient Egyptian Mythology | Ancient Architects

Ancient Architects 2024-04-18 | The band is of course our galaxy, the Milky Way, and it’s been viewed by cultures in many different ways, from a celestial river to take away departing spirits, to the birthplace of angels.

But how the Ancient Egyptians viewed the Milky Way has been a mystery, even with the countless written records left and with decades of research and study.

Well, Dr. Or Graur, an Associate Professor of Astrophysics at the University of Portsmouth, and a Research Associate at the American Museum of Natural History, believes he found the answer. He’s found a link between the ancient Egyptian goddess, Nut, and the Milky Way galaxy.
