I'm back after quite a while with my latest contribution to a Pixel Mixers album. This is my synthwave take on Celeste's "Reach for the Summit", featuring some amazing beadsprite work by psycosulu (youtube.com/user/psycosulu).
Celeste was far-and-away my favorite game of 2018 - its themes of self-improvement and overcoming anxiety really resonated with me, and it culminates in the final climb to the summit, where this track originally plays. Huge thanks to everyone in the community who gave me feedback and who continually inspire me to keep climbing ;)

I used to spend countless hours practicing levels in Dustforce, and the theme of continual self-improvement resonated with me long after I put my controller down. Now, I'm applying that same mindset to music, and working to make better content every day. Thanks to everyone who has supported me, and here's to many more covers in the future!
Original Composer: Lifeformed (Terence Lee) Arrangement and Performance: moonbike (Henry Olson)
This track is a fusion/metal guitar cover of the Dracula X / Rondo of Blood Stage 3 song, Cemetery. While the original is a frenzied, evil-sounding tune, I decided to deviate from that arrangement and throw in some more melodic elements.

Original Composer: Kinuyo Yamashita All Mega Man X3 content, including the original composition and gameplay videos, is copyrighted by Capcom.VGMA Challenge - Day 10 - Densetsu no Senshimoonbike2018-07-11 | For Day 10, I decided to do the "Samurai" theme. This song would play when an elder is telling an ancient tale of a powerful Samurai, and the battles he fought.VGMA Challenge - Day 9 - Game Overmoonbike2018-07-10 | For Day 9, I decided to do a lighthearted game over theme in the vein of DKC2 and Rayman. Enjoy!VGMA Challenge - Day 8 - Venom Sunrisemoonbike2018-07-09 | Day 8! I decided to follow the "Forgotten Beats" theme and throw in some synthwave and guitars, because why not. This track might play during an intro.VGMA Challenge - Day 7 - Jungle Chasemoonbike2018-07-09 | Day 7: drums only! I tried to make a frantic, jungle chase theme.VGMA Challenge - Day 6 - Distant Wishmoonbike2018-07-09 | Day 6: music box theme! I wanted to make a sad, nostalgic theme that might play when a main character dies.VGMA Challenge - Day 5 - Blue City Zonemoonbike2018-07-09 | Day 5: A Sonic-esque level theme utilizing the Blues scale!VGMA Challenge - Day 4 - Long Restmoonbike2018-07-04 | Here's my day 4! For this track, I tried my hand at the "vocal melody" challenge. I wanted this track to sound evil, grandiose, and otherworldly, like your party finally gets to meet a great villain of legend and his fanatic cult.VGMA Challenge - Day 2 - Farewell, My Desert Companionmoonbike2018-07-02 | Day 2! I decided to try out the desert theme, and had a lot of fun utilizing the "world" instruments that come with Logic by default. I imagine this theme could play when you have to say goodbye to a friend who's helped you through the desert.VGMA Challenge - Day 1 - Captains Hideoutmoonbike2018-07-01 | Day one of the 21 Day VGMA challenge complete! This one is a pirate-sounding theme, maybe for a mysterious villain.Mega Man 8 Intro Stage (Guitar Cover)moonbike2018-06-21 | Finally, another cover! I've been wanting to do this one for a while. Mega Man 8 has some incredible tunes, and this intro stage in particular sounded like it could work well as a tropical house song. Special thanks to Amanda for filming and letting me have way too much fun with my bass in the park :D

A lot of the inspiration for this one comes from Nujabes and Vanilla, two of my favorite instrumental artists.Tales of Phantasia - Be Absentminded (Guitar Cover)moonbike2018-03-19 | My guitar cover of "Be Absentminded" from Tales of Phantasia, on SNES, PS1, and GBA. This sad song plays in a few cutscenes but never made an appearance in the other later Tales games, as far as I know. This song took a lot of effort to transcribe for every instrument (just based on the SNES soundtrack), but it was a lot of fun!
