DanielKotesGo to 5:00 for the largest iron golem farm in Minecraft history (at the moment at least) . The original design is all by TangoTek, and having build myself an iron trench farm following his tutorial I found it to be slightly too... big. After some playing around I constructed my own version, followed by three more, followed by a couple more. This here is a video detailing some of my designs, so hope you enjoy. Features the largest iron golem farm in minecraft history (until now at least)!!! Staggering 512 villages producing around 20k iron per hour!!! . For those of you asking, here is the download for all the maps featured (plus some extras!): http://www.mediafire.com/download/ak815gx2kisss79/Lava+Trenches+%28my+variations+of+tangos+IT%29.zip If anyone wants to know the amount of materials required for the huge 512 farm, here is the excel sheet: http://www.mediafire.com/download/le50lk92gjyuc6k/ITx4_v2_-_center_-_128_FINAL_analysis.xlsx Please read the read-me file before you do anything... . Post production notes: - I changed the V4 file in the download (new download link), as that one was broken. I was doing some final tests and forgot to replace a torch I removed (I removed it so I couldnt accidentally reset the farm, and... without it you couldnt reset the farm). Shoutout to ek437 for bringing this to my attention.

Basically - just a 11x11x5 solid cube with the spawner in the middle and a water stream above the cube to collect the items. Yep - simplest is definitely the word to describe this.
I was on the fence for a while about whether to post this bug or not, but in the end it is easy to find, so I have no doubt that it would be found before 1.8 was officially out. Heck, it would probably be found before the next snapshot.
So yea - no world download for this, but its not like you really need it.
- DanIron Towers Tutorial (1.8, 1300 iron/hour, 32 village farm)DanielKotes2014-06-16 | For those who wanted an iron farm that can be built outside spawn chunks which still produces huge amounts of iron, here is the solution: 32 villages, 1300 iron every hour, works in 1.8 snapshots, and only requires 27 villagers to be operational. ... Now the video did not turn out quite as I would have liked it, but after I had to re-record parts of it over 40 times, this is the best I could get it. Most often the problem I had was that I would do the recording not in full screen, which resulted in resolution less than 1080, meaning I couldnt connect it with the other clips in VDUB... Anyway, most of you dont care about that, so here is a bit of an FAQ about the farm: - 1: will it work in 1.7 / can I build it in 1.7 / does it have to be built in 1.8? A: it will NOT work in 1.7. That said, it doesnt require anything special version wise to build, so if you build it in 1.7 and then upgrade to 1.8 it will work just as well as if you build it directly in 1.8.
- 2: do I have to place the doors in any specific order? A: No! The villages are created through redstone, so you can place them in any order you like. They are direction dependent (east-west or north-south), as is the farm - so make sure you get that right.
- 3: Should I build this, or the Iron Titan? A: Well, if you dont have access to the spawn chunks (public servers), or dont want to have the farm constantly loaded and taking up your computer's resources (SP or private servers), then you should build this. On the other hand if you have access to the spawn chunks and dont mind the constant load, then build the Iron Titan.
- 4: It does not work!!! A: first thing you want to do is check if you built the farm facing the right direction. Then you want to check if all the doors are placed the right distance from each other. After that, make sure that all the blocks that need sunlight, do in fact receive sunlight. Finally, start checking the redstone - since something is wrong. Oh, and you are in 1.8, right?
Dan, Out.Slimeblock Jettison / Escape HatchDanielKotes2014-06-09 | For those who want a quick but completely invisible emergency exit from your underground base, here it is! It even works underwater, which is perfect for those building in the middle of the ocean! Simply put, I decided to take a bit of a break in between finishing up the tutorial for the 1.8 iron farm, and what better way to do that than to do something simple with redstone... Contrary to my expectations this actually took longer than I expected because I wanted it to be: A) 3x3 footprint, and B) flush with the ground. I could see a way of getting either A or B, but to get both A and B took a bit of time.
Anyway, hope you enjoyed this, as this was a fun little project to build, and in the end turned out to be quite light on the resources, perfect for all you survival players.
- Dan, outThe Iron Towers (V1.8) - 1300 iron/hour - 32 villagesDanielKotes2014-06-06 | Iron trench that works in 1.8 - 32 villages, ton of iron, fully automated. Enjoy!
Yes, this is an auto rebuildable layered iron farm. Yes, it is 1.8 compatible. No, it will not work in 1.7 and earlier versions. Yes, it can be build outside the spawn chunks. I would like to say my design was the first 1.8 version layered iron farm, but its not like it really matters.
Alright. I was originally planning on waiting for 1.8 to officially be out so that even if they patch this the farm would be build-able in at least one 'official / stable' version of minecraft... but with the release of Tango's video (link down below), I see no point in waiting any longer.
The idea actually started out way back in February when I had free time and decided to waste said time by doing a bit of minecraft - geometry. A month or so later I basically had the final version of this farm ready and waiting.
When it was time to make the actual recording I ran into a bit of a problem (mostly because I decided to make the excel spreadsheet to explain what my 20 pages of calculations resulted in) - according to the excel spreadsheet my farm should not work. After that it took another day to fix that, and I even managed to further improve the farm (look carefully in the video - you can see that I am showing 2 different versions of the farm).
So in the end, you get an awesome farm that works. Please do leave a like / comment - it took a LOT of time to put this together.
Minecraft home page: minecraft.netKobra HybridDanielKotes2014-06-03 | Pushing in the Kobra to spawn in monster spawners took too long, and with flying machines now available... why not automate it?
Well, I had doubts about posting this, but in the end decided to showcase this design even though it is already obsolete. The reason? Simple - it is most likely the last design to feature the old piston setup for extending a single block line into multiple blocks (nowadays that is done with slime blocks... oh how far minecraft has gone...) For anyone wondering about the name, this design features the old piston setup from the Kobra, along with the new slime block flying machines - a hybrid. For a complete slime block Kobra, check back later
PS: about the wide screen... it seems that I was recording on a wide screen monitor, but the recording program was set to record in 1024x768 only...Dans Zipkrowd LP - Ep4DanielKotes2014-05-30 | This time, I am happy to say that the farm is finished. Now I just need to change the item storage and perhaps ask everyone from Zipkrowd to see if they can find out why one of the four areas spawns x-ray Ghasts... BUT - I will not be showing that - as far as LPs go, this farm is finished and I am looking for a new project to work on.Dans Zipkrowd LP - Ep3DanielKotes2014-03-12 | Well, in the end I decided to fix the farm instead of doing a complete rebuild. Mostly this was because I didnt want to leave a half finished build sitting around on the zipkrowd server, and in the end this turned out to be a good idea since there was a bit less to fix than I originally thought. Thanks everyone who commented, and I did take your thoughts into consideration... just that they were more or less evenly divided... Anyway - I didnt get to the end as I thought I would, and thats because I realized near the end that there is quite a bit more to do than I thought. I need to get all the mobs into position, and I also need to re-build the item storage since the one I have there is too small and will not be able to handle the item flow rate. Two Pin, One Combination Lock - ShowcaseDanielKotes2014-02-26 | The design I wanted to showcase had an unfortunate accident, so instead of that one I decided to show you all an interesting twist on the combination lock in minecraft - a lock that actually has two correct pins. If you enter the first pin, then one door opens, but if you enter the second one then the second door opens. As with the other combination lock that I have, I have provided it in both 3 digit and 6 digit sizes, though for those of you good with redstone you can tinker a bit and get any size you want. I dont recommend going past six though, unless it is an important part of your adventure map and you want the player to collect a double digit worth of digits from around the map and then put it into the combination lock to open the way forward.
Hope you liked this showcase, and do tell me if you want a tutorial - I can basically build the entire thing from scratch without requiring a guide, so getting a tutorial out should be easy.Perimeter Command BlockDanielKotes2014-02-21 | For those of you who have seen JL's video already, this is my version of pretty much the same thing. It works in a slightly different manner, but accomplishes the same task. To summarize, when you need a 385x385 area emptied out in your world, you place a command block at the center of that area, put in the command, and put a redstone block next to it. Everything else is done automatically.
For those who want to actually see it broken down and play around with it, here is the txt file with it: http://www.mediafire.com/view/h6qn0x5svqv03he/minecraft_perimeter_clear.txtIndustrial Garbage BinDanielKotes2014-02-17 | Yea, I was having fun trying to get the fastest garbage bin set up I could, and in the end finished off with this. The reason that the minecart stacking actually works is because they are stacked in different directions, and I havent actually been able to stack it further so far, but not for the lack of trying.
Anyone who finds a good use (other than a garbage bin) for a not-so-perfect 8 hopper output from a double chest, pm / comment me - I would love to see it. If you can perfect the hopper output such that each hopper has exactly the same amount without loosing the speed, PM ME! I would love to see it.
As always, world download is here: http://www.mediafire.com/download/u840d2w2plpev3p/Quick+Garbage+System.zipRedstone Anvil StationDanielKotes2014-02-12 | Have you ever wanted to have an anvil station that you do not have to worry about, one where whenever an anvil breaks a new one takes its place? Then look no further! With a simple BUD switch and zero tick pulse generator you can build one yourself, and as a bonus it will look good anywhere!
Yea, I was playing around with pistons when I noticed this interesting glitch, and when I showed it to Ground15 he asked if it would work with other falling entities (I had it going with sand). From there this project came into being.
Its not all serious - as I said in the video I realize that a simple stack of anvils will probably work out better and be redstoneless. But... thats the problem! It will be redstoneless! And I just cant let that happen.
Hope you enjoyed the video, and there will not be a world download for this. Way too simple really. - DanDans Zipkrowd LP - Ep2DanielKotes2014-02-10 | Well, the good news is that I put in quite a bit of work into the farm and in fact came to a point that the spawn floors and the ghasts were the only thing left to do... The bad news is that I found 8 things that need to be changed before the farm is operational, and if you check the amount of things I need to destroy before I can build up the correct setup, well - it may just be faster to scrap the build and start over with a better design.
As you may expect I am feeling quite down because of this, and in the end couldnt decide if I should just scrap the build and restart, or continue with what is already here and try and get it operational. So - I will leave it up to you - Please comment as to which course you think I should take: restart or fixing.
In case anyone is wondering, here is the list of things I need to fix (so far): 1 - fix the minecart dispensers (bud power issue) 2 - fix the clock (solid block powering one of the middle hoppers should not do that 3 - glass over all spaces where spawn platforms can be seen from to prevent ghasts from noticing players and shooting 4 - re-check all the areas for safe ghast transport (four blocks close to dispenser chests are in the way and damage the ghasts during transfer) 5 - Complete rebuild of the item collection stations (minecarts get stuck, require more minecart stations, increase size of floors by 1 in all directions) 6 - fix the ghast dispensers (redstone repeater on 1 tick instead of 2, half slabs at the exit points block the minecarts, and some solid blocks damage the ghast and need to be replaced with glass) In fact rotate the exit port to be on the OTHER side of the system (as in not on the same side as the item storage setup) 7 - complete rebuild of the ghast crushers (due to 1.8 update moving the ghast suffocation points one block down, require double down vertical piston extenders) 8 - complete rebuild of the ghast pusher rails and spawn platforms (2 blocks up move required)
Thus for now, I am done. Going to go off and fish me some nametags for the ghasts, as whichever way I go, I still need at least 22 of them.
Dan, signing off. C-y'allSand Generator in 14w06b snapshot (broken after 14w07)DanielKotes2014-02-08 | Thanks to ZolgeGaming, we have sand generators once more!
I found out from the zipkrowd chat, and it wasnt as if I was the only one working on a design - I think there are at least three videos about this just from the Zipkrowd group, but oh well. This is my version/variation.
Basically I compacted it, made it be able to be easily turned on and off, and made a cool cover for it. Nothing much, but then again.
Hope you liked this video, and I will have more out soon. - DanMS#3 - Simple Empty World CreationDanielKotes2014-02-06 | A fast and simple way of tricking minecraft into creating a flat world with no layers. - DanDans Zipkrowd LP - Ep1DanielKotes2014-02-03 | My first (official) Zipkrowd episode (the sand gathering adventure really shouldnt count), and I decided to show something grand to celebrate!
The construction took around two days to get to where it is now, and I leave it up to you to guess as to which mob this farm is going to harvest. Also, when I am done with this and show it running on a zipkrowd server tour, I will be posting a tutorial video or at least a show case for a single wing of this farm... after all I doubt many other people will want to build it in its full scale. Though if you are one of those people, dont despair - I will include a world download with the 'full size' build as well.
Hope you enjoyed this episode, Dan.Combination Lock - Invisible BuildDanielKotes2014-01-31 | If you want to see just how simple of a design the combination lock really is, then watch me build it correctly on the first time with invisible blocks. ... Not at all serious, but still - I succeeded.
The link to the actual tutorial video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-UGRsT6QX1M1.8 Combination Lock TutorialDanielKotes2014-01-31 | Just something I had been up to ever since the snapshot that featured updated item frames came out. As I mentioned in the video, I am not the first to come up with the idea, but the redstone component of it is completely mine.
For anyone wondering, there is a video of me building this setup with the new invisible blocks, just to show you that it can be done, and the link to it is right here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jeu21_G35d0
Hope you enjoyed this video, -Danxray in 1.8-FIXED IN LATEST SNAPSHOTDanielKotes2014-01-27 | Well, since it is no longer possible to place blocks against fences when you are in the way, a new method for getting xray had to be made. Its nothing especially ground breaking, as it took me less than 10 min to get around, but oh well - its an update video after all.Player Launcher - Version 1.8DanielKotes2014-01-27 | My own variation of Test's player launcher. The original video by test is given below. What I did was make it a bit simpler to build (at least I think so), while also making it slightly more compact. In other news, I am back from my hiatus from Minecraft! Almost immediately after I finished the last video I logged in to minecraft... and logged out because I just couldnt find anything interesting to do. Then came Christmas and new years...
Anyway: Original video: youtube.com/watch?v=ulh6-HvscTo Test137E29 channel: youtube.com/channel/UCOOmif0xUQl3tzmaPUFO9cA50k special (sand, not subs) - Still AliveDanielKotes2013-12-06 | Well, I am back. Not sure if anyone missed me (well, JL said he noticed I was missing, but still...) but I thought I would put out a short statement that I am not lost. We were all out digging up a desert when an idea came up to keep track of the amount of sand blocks mined. Obviously that led to an increase in blocks mined and a decrease in blocks collected over time, but it was definitely fun. There were deaths involved - sand harvest is a cut throat business after all... Still - I claimed the lead early on and stayed there, even with a 10 min break in between. So here is my victory celebration - 50k reached before anyone else! . Music: Still alive (Portal), instrumental version. Obviously not mine. Was writing the title of the video in, and it reminded me of the song... . Dan4k Special - Episode 1 Hardcore Lets Play!DanielKotes2013-11-14 | So I decided to start my own Lets play series! Got a good seed, a perfect map, and now all I need to do is survive the first day (or better to say, night!) ... Not all too serious, had this lying around on the hard drive back when I planned a LP and had this as an opening. Two hours after starting I got bored of using cobble tools and went back to Zipkrowd servers. Still, I found this opening to be funny, and thought I would share it with you as a stand alone video. Consider this as a... prequel. I have a Zipkrowd lets play that I plan to start as soon as I finish a certain project. . DanFully Automatic Cobblestone Generator (SP&MP)DanielKotes2013-11-06 | Just another use for the wither boss... Now I know this is not a new concept (others have used my wither cage setup to make a cobblestone generator already), but I thought I would show my version - I was aiming for compact + efficient, and I think I succeeded. Incidentally this is one of the longest projects I worked on, with 7 versions that I went through before arriving at the final design that you see here - the reason for this is that the setup also doubled as a test for wither cages in SP... The only projects that did in fact take longer are the iron trench variations (naturally - 1.5 months of time total there), and the original wither cage (2+ weeks of work there). . So... here is the world download: http://www.mediafire.com/download/4clhn37kb9aibb9/SP+Cobblestone+farm+-+V7+FINAL.zip . Hope you liked the video! - Dan . PS: for anyone wondering, Maizuma Games is the creator of the counter that I use in this design. I already mentioned this in the video (or at least put in an annotation about it).Boosterless Rails, 1wide tilable U-turns and minecart ElevatorsDanielKotes2013-11-01 | A no-glitch, no-cheat, pure vanilla, no special code exploit method of going infinite distances in minecarts with just regular rails. Cant go uphill though... Anyway - started off with the 1 wide tilable u-turns for one of the projects, and having found the awesome way I show in this video, I went on to use the same concept for elevator/escalator designs as well as boosterless rails. Hope you all enjoy! - DanNo-Loss Villager Trading HallDanielKotes2013-10-30 | ... Also known as the "Nether Library"... Trading with villagers for enchanted books in minecraft is probably the only time when you can lose the trade you like even if you re-trade the last trade to refresh everything since the enchantment may change. As such the only practical way to stop that from happening is shown in this video. From an idea by Panda well over a month ago, I finally have a working design for a villager trading hall in the nether that will enable you to complete any trade without it 'breaking' or disappearing on you - particularly important (as I already mentioned) with enchanted books. . Dan . Update: Apparently I forgot to put in the world download, so here it is: http://www.mediafire.com/download/muygec31m9qv2u2/villager+trade+center+-+V3.zip Would like to mention that I have a better version in the works, so it might be better to hold off on building one if you were planning to.1.7.x X-ray TutorialDanielKotes2013-10-26 | Working x-ray setup in vanilla minecraft (SMP friendly) that circumvents the patching Mojang tried to implement to stop x-rays from working. ... not even a week and its back - shows how much people want it, eh?
Anyway - was working on minecarts in the nether and found out that blocks are not always 2-sided now, so with the glimpse at future x-raying I took a bit of my time to get a working version that you see before you. For anyone wondering, I started off with minecarts, went on to ender pearls, and finally to the half-slab jump setup. Technical information: - all textures in the game are typically one sided to be efficient - after all why draw something no one will see? The X-ray setups take advantage of that by pushing you into a block from within which you are on the 'wrong side' of the texture/plane. - To stop people from abusing this, any time a block is updated the game checks if a player is inside the block (which normally shouldnt happen of course...). If a player is inside, then the textures of that block (and that block only) are made to be 2-sided. Otherwise the textures are made 1-sided again. - This means that if you can get inside a block without causing it to update, then you will be inside the block while it is still 1-sided (provided it wasnt turned 2-sided before); meaning that you will be able to see around - XRAY! . Hope that explains things, Dan.Spawn Chunks + Transferring items from END to OverworldDanielKotes2013-10-21 | Thought I would do an explanation of the spawn chunks of minecraft, as there doesnt seem to be quite that many videos about it, even though it is such an interesting feature of the game with so much potential. Also included is a simple, efficient, and most of all fully automatic way of transferring items from the END to the overworld without having to carry it by hand - so for those of you who are struggling with enderman pearls or wish to build an obsidian farm but dont want to carry hundreds of double chests of obsidian out by hand, this is for you! . Quick guide to the spawn chunks: 1 - they are a 12x12 chunk area centered on the player spawn point 2 - when you spawn into the game the first time or after dying without being tied to a bed, you will appear in a 20x20 block area centered on the spawn point 3 - if you die enough times and record the locations you spawn in, you can get the 20x20 area and thus figure out the exact spawn point coordinates (south-eastern block of the 2x2 block center) 4 - alternatively you can through items through the portal from the end back to the overworld, and it will give you the exact spawn point coordinates (south-eastern block of the 2x2 block area items can appear) 5 - if 4 doesnt work, flatten the area! 6 - by marking out the chunk the spawn point is in, you can find the center of the 12x12 spawn chunks without having to test things out through item despawns 7 - special properties of spawn chunks (or what works and what doesnt): : redstone contraptions work perfectly : lava, water, and fire spread normally : minecarts, hoppers, dispensers, etc. work normally : iron golems spawn, villagers breed, baby villagers grow : animals grow, and sheep grow wool : TNT blows up the same way, though if it passes out of the spawn chunks it 'freezes' (gets unloaded), even if it is already primed : ice DOES NOT form or melt without a player nearby : wheat, potatoes, carrots, saplings... basically anything you can speed up with bonemeal DOES NOT grow without a player nearby : reed / sugar cane DOES NOT grow without a player nearby : mob spawning DOES NOT happen without a player nearby : Pigmen spawning through nether portals also seems to not work without a player nearby...
8 - you can 'expand' the spawn chunks through chunk loaders at the borders (2 hoppers facing into each other with one item inside, one hopper in a loaded chunk, one hopper in a chunk you want to keep loaded) . Hope that helps! - Dan9 obsidian/sec Automatic Wither Farm UpdateDanielKotes2013-10-18 | The original setup worked perfectly only on servers and would have a 50/50 chance of failing on single player worlds after around 10 hours. After some work (and ElRichMC prompting me about it), I finally have a version that works on both singleplayer maps and servers! Also included are the changes to the design that I felt were necessary to keep the farm running efficiently - they are not safety related, but should be done if you want the obsidian farm to be running at 9 obsidian per second for 5 hours or so. I would add this in as a response to the original tutorial, but youtube removed that option... oh well. . As always, here is the world download: http://www.mediafire.com/download/n1fx14l6jom49zw/obsidian+end+farm+single+V3+rebuild.zip . - DanMS#2 - Redstoneless XrayDanielKotes2013-10-17 | not my design / idea, but I thought it was unknown enough to warrant me making a small video about it so more people can start using this instead of pistons. First saw it in Docm77's video, and liked it.The Kobra - Spawn your own Spawner Tutorial (SMP)DanielKotes2013-10-07 | Here it is, only 24 hours after Panda's revolutionary video hit the sub boxes. This is the great secret project that Docm77 has hinted at, and that just bout all of Zipkrowd had been working on. Thanks Panda for coming up with this idea! . Anyway - this here is my greatest contribution to the project (I did quite a bit more in terms of helping out with tests, but this here is what I consider to be a big part of what made the spawner project possible). The Kobra (and yes, just like Zipkrowd you spell it with a K) is a setup that is capable of pushing in the entire spawner cage using only a single 2x1 infinite bridge and has been set up so that you only need to know the coordinates of where a spawner can spawn before placing it - all the distance calculations have already been taken into account. . For anyone who wants a brief tutorial on how to spawn their own spawners: 1: Find Panda's video about how to find out the possible locations for spawner locations in your world (know the seed of it, along with making a backup and finding a good position in chunks that have not yet been created). 2: Find a good spawner position in the chunks that have not been created in your world (make a backup obviously, because once you explore the area, it is no longer 'not created'). A good spawner will have all of its cage within a single chunk. 3: Find out the number of blocks below the floor tiles of the spawner that you need to place to spawn in the type you want (skeleton, zombie or spider). 4: place a block exactly 400 blocks away from the spawner (same height, same x or z value depending on which direction you want to push it in from). 5: Build the Kobra, starting from the block you placed in #3 and facing towards the spawner location 6: Push in the Kobra, make sure not to move once you start placing (AKA: dont leave the chunk you are in), as unloading the chunks can cause irreversible damage. 7: If you are pushing in more than one, push in one first, unload the world, then push in the next one. 8: Once all of them are pushed in, take a deep breath and walk along one of the infinite bridges to the new spawner. If everything was done right, it should be there. If not, then you just wasted a lot of time on nothing (load the backup, and try again. Check for problems / errors first obviously). . FAQ: 1: how close to the spawner location can I come before I mess things up? A: As long as you do not cause the chunks the spawner is in to load, you should be fine. Just to be safe though, stick to 256 blocks away (or better yet an even 300) on servers, though on SP you might get away with only 200 or so. 2: Does the Kobra really have to be set up 400 blocks away? That seems like exceptionally far! A: Not really, as I said above, 300 blocks would probably work just as well, or even 200 on SP. The reason for the 400 is so that if you push it and there are problems, you can have quite some space to maneuver to fix it (as well as making sure you dont accidentally cross the boundary and screw everything over). 3: You stole the piston design from SO AND SO! A: No, I didnt. Sancarn is the one who showed me the way of setting up the piston monorails to power each other, and Panda came up with the infinite bridge design (I know he wasnt the first, but we only found that out later). I added in a way to connect the two and created the Kobra from there. Think of it this way - someone else thought up two of the three building blocks, but I came up with the third and put it all together from a bunch of blocks into a beautiful and complex design. 4: Please tell me how to find where the spawners can spawn! A: Cant - that is all Panda and he said he will have a tutorial / video about it out soon. So stick around and practice building Kobras or something. 5: Can I use this to place quad blaze spawners!? A: As far as I know (and the Zipkrowd guys agree), no. Reason being that their formation depends on nether fortresses instead of random blocks around them. Also it would be difficult to find a good place to place the Kobra as it needs quite a bit of empty space to push forward. 6: dont have any more. If you do, post them in the comments and I will reply. . The setup of pistons and redstone blocks that I show you in this video is capable of pushing another set of blocks in front of it whenever it itself is pushed forward, effectively allowing you to create an infinite line of blocks of any height and width that can be pushed forward with just a single wall of pistons (even if the end of it is several thousand blocks away. For anyone who is wondering what use this is when it can only go one way... I will leave you with a challenge of coming up with one. The Zipkrowd guys already have one, so dont tell me that this is completely useless. . Music: Name: Intuit Author: Kevin MacLeod Copyright year: 2004 Website: http://incompetech.com . This is the best obsidian farm I could come up with considering the limited dimensions of the obsidian platform in the end (5x5). Thanks Panda for the obsidian farm idea. Watch and enjoy. Thanks everyone, -DanMS#1 - Cakes in Item sorters / Item storageDanielKotes2013-09-30 | For most of us, enderman chests are too costly to be used in item sorters such as Zipkrowd's sorting system. Well, the solution is easy! Just use cakes instead!
My Minecraft Snippet Series: A collection of very helpful advice / pointers that I have discovered along with Panda and others on the Zipkrowd server that while not being large enough to warrant a tutorial or a showcase, are still cool / important enough to be shown to all of you. Every video will likely not exceed 5 minutes (probably not even 3 minutes), and yet can help out in the long run.
Unlike my other videos, no world download is provided. Just search Zipkrowd's storage room videos and understand that many of the ender chests there can probably be replaced with cakes. Not all of them though - cakes cant float (unfortunate and completely does not reflect real life). . Thanks everyone, - DanServer Friendly Nanofarm TutorialDanielKotes2013-09-26 | Just something I cobbled up on the Zipkrowd survival server - I originally used XisumaVoid's design, but found it didnt quite work on the server. After some modifications I managed to come up with this design that looks similar, but has totally different redstone (enough for me to consider it a different design). Overall, in the case of servers there is always a little lag between you planting the seed/potato/carrot, and the moment when the server realizes what you did. If in that time the piston moves, you dont quite get anything. What this design does, is it allows the user/builder to set the timing - meaning that it works for just about any server (within bounds). All you need to do is test it, and if it works fine, try to decrease the timings. If it fails, then you can just increase the timings until it works. A bit of tinkering, and you can find the 'sweet spot' where the farm works as fast as it can on the server you play on! . Now for the stuff you probably went to the description for: . Thanks everyone, DanSweeper Portal Pigmen Farm - 2200 pigmen/hDanielKotes2013-09-20 | The most efficient gold farm for 1.7 - After all you cant fit more portal blocks closer together than this. The project started a few weeks ago when someone on the Zipkrowd chat posted a picture about the mega portals in the latest snapshots. Right off the bat I came up with this design, and had it mostly built (as in the water collection system + drop chute + item sorting, etc). The only problem was that I had not idea as to how to get the pigmen OUT of the 64 long tube of obsidian... Then yesterday JL posted a video where he used ghasts to push pigmen out of portals, and I knew I found the solution! For anyone asking, you can stack these close together, with those side by side sharing the obsidian walls. Stacking them vertically is slightly more difficult as you need to place rails underneath for the ghasts/slimes to go on. . YES I KNOW I SAID 3 PIGMEN PER 2 SEC - I MEANT 2 PIGMEN EVERY 3 SEC . FAQ (some of the questions are from JL's video): 1 - can you decrease the height of the portals? NO: the reason is that the pigmen spawn from portal blocks (though actually appearing on the floor) - thus the more portal blocks you have, the faster they will spawn. 2 - Can you use any other mobs? Well... Ghasts work, and you need only 5 of them. Slimes (large only) work, and you need 10 of them, thus increasing the load on the server (every line of railway tracks needs to pulse as a 1 tick clock, so server load is higher the more railway tracks are placed). Lava slimes should also work (didnt test, but pretty sure as they have the same hitbox as slimes). Dont think any other mob would work (no for horses) 3 - Can you just drop them straight down instead of having a platform? YES: but remember that in this case you are removing the option of manually killing the pigmen (roughly 40% would die from the fall at the optimal distance instead of ~5-10% you get with the platform). So if you want this purely for the gold, sure! 4 - Will the ghasts shoot at you in survival? NO: their heads are in portal blocks / obsidian - they cant see you. 5 - Why do you need the 1 tick clock? Because if the minecarts were going at their regular speed, the pigmen would just phase through them (too fast movement to push at them) - thus completely breaking the design. 6 - Do you have any recommendations for stacking these? First off, build the tubes to be 32 in length. At 64 you save on ghasts / slimes, but at the same time you start to get despawning. Secondly, stack them sideways - that way you can save on obsidian by having the farms share one / two of the walls. Lastly, dont funnel all the pigmen into one drop chute - with larger farms you would get too many of them and they could clog up the system. Alternatively you can increase the width of the passageway and water tunnel. 7 - Is this better than JL's design? YES (not that I have anything against his design, without that video I wouldnt have completed this design): JL was actually looking into doing it this way, but didnt have a way of slowing down minecarts that I found (its actually been around since 2011, just hasnt had much screen time). As such this design produces almost the number of pigmen as his large farm, while at the same time being TEN time smaller (so if you build this farm up to the same size as JL's, you would get 10x the spawn rates) . Statistics (per farm): - 1.6 double chests of obsidian (less if you stack them side by side, up to a minimum of 1.2 double chests) : compared to 1 double chest in JL's design. Hey, you have to pay for efficiency! - 28224 portal blocks (as compared to 30744 of JL's design) - roughly 1 pigman every 1.5 seconds - SIZE: 23x29x70 + drop chute in the middle (as opposed to 67x67x75ish + drop chute) . Thanks everyone! - Dan -9 obsidian/sec Automatic Wither Farm Tutorial (1.7.4 compatible)DanielKotes2013-09-17 | Only a few minutes after I showed the wither cage concept to Panda on the zipkrowd creative server, he asked the question of "can we use this to mine obsidian?". That was the start of things, and it took us nearly a week to get things working - mostly because we kept coming up with cool new ideas on how we can speed things up or make them safer. Quite a few people helped out (cant remember them all now), but in the end it was mostly me, Panda, and Kabo that did most of the work on the original obsidian farm that was featured on Panda's channel. ... Unfortunately, that farming experience did not go as expected. Thus it took us a couple more days to work out a fix to make sure that the farm works, and so Panda and I are proud to present a completely 100% perfectly safe (in both multiplayer and singleplayer now!) way of harvesting obsidian with the POWER OF SNOW!!!! (the wither helps as well). For singleplayer... PLEASE WATCH THE UPDATE VIDEO BEFORE TRYING!! . WORLD DOWNLOAD: mediafire.com/download/n5g237tgdl5vd21/obsidian_end_farm_maps.zip . Panda's Channel: youtube.com/user/Panda4994 Kabo's Channel: youtube.com/user/KaboPC . Panda's video about the obsidian farm: youtube.com/watch?v=eq54ssLXlWM . Will we be building this on the Zipkrowd server? Personally I doubt it. Still - havent asked JL or any of the others so who knows. . FAQ: 1: Does this work in SP? A: It does now! (just remember to watch the update video) 2: Can I just open up my world to LAN and consider it as a MP so I can build this? A: no. It still counts as single player 3: Can I set up my world as a server and build this even if the server is running on the same computer as the client? A: yes. As long as it is a full server (server and client programs are disconnected), it will work. 4: Why WAS this server only? A: because in single player there are weird glitches with hitboxes due to the combination of game process and game render. On a server though the server handles game processes while the client handles rendering. 5: How do I set up the overworld part of this design? A: See panda's video about it (link provided above)
. That's it - Thank you all. - Dan -18/sec Snowball Farm TutorialDanielKotes2013-09-15 | A nifty little setup that allows you to AFK while shoveling away at the snow, giving you 18 snowballs per second (and wasting iron shovels at around the same rate - durability based - meaning around a shovel every 10 or so seconds). Would definitely suggest an iron trench if you plan on building this, as using cobblestone shovels would decrease efficiency. Anyway - built this together with Kabo and Panda as part of a larger project which will be showcased very soon. DanFully automatic Railway Hub Tutorial - 1.6&1.7DanielKotes2013-09-08 | I already showed this design in a showcase, but now I will be doing a tutorial on it. Taking up just a bit over a single chunk of space, it allows you for easy minecarting to four different locations using a simple selection panel. Also features automatic minecart generation + breaking + storage, such that the only thing you have to do is click on the destination button and hop into the minecart: the rest is automated. I put in the original world and the world I made during the tutorial. The redstone is slightly different (due to different orientations), so as I said during the video, if your carts arent going the right way, try the other redstone setup. NOTE: I made some changes to the redstone to make the hub capable of being set up facing in any direction. See the last few minutes of the video if you are having trouble (I added in a couple of minutes at the end after I found out about this problem) - Dan.Fully Automatic AFK Tree Farm - 6,000 wood / hour - Auto Breaking!DanielKotes2013-08-30 | If you already watched my video on keeping the wither contained and using it to break blocks, you know how I got this to work. Works perfectly in 1.6.2, 1.6.4, 1.7, 1.8 snapshots, and most likely in 1.8 official (you just need to replace the wood block right above where the tree is spawned to iron / stone) Anyway: After nearly a week of work, I came up with a way that can break the blocks with 100% safety. Thus by adding in a nice compact wood farm you get a beast that processes trees at roughly 1 tree / 2.5 seconds. IN THE END: Design is only 15x19 area, 12 blocks high In 1 hour it produces: . +140 apples . +140 saplings . +6500 blocks of wood . -6200 bonemeal (uses up).
Build this next to a skele spawner / auto kill farm, thus allowing you to farm bones at the same time as you use up the bonemeal for farming wood. Hope this solves all wood related problems. - Finally, if anyone wants it, here is the download link to the map(s): http://www.mediafire.com/download/3lozbi48chit3nv/Automatic_Wood_Farm.zip DanPerfect Wither Cage - woodchipper / block breakerDanielKotes2013-08-29 | IMPORTANT: If you are building this in SP, know that this only works for wood and would fail for cobblestone because the wither can glitch through the fence walls. IN SP YOU NEED TO MODIFY THE DESIGN A BIT: Raise the hoppers in the 3x3 area around the wither until they are on the same level as the water should be (basically place them above the fences instead of below). Note that this means there will not be water there. Remove the middle hopper and place a solid block one block below instead (so 4 blocks between the ceiling and the floor for the center, and 3 blocks between the ceiling and the hoppers around it). You can now summon the wither (remember the water to keep the explosion contained). The wither will be held in place by the hoppers around it which are glitch proof as long as you do not damage it.
Description: The days when you had to slowly chop down the piles of wood your tree farm created is over and a new age is about to begin with fully automatic block breaking & collection that is 100% safe to build and at the same time does not require any special blocks (such as bedrock), special locations (such as the exit from the end), or any redstone whatsoever (for keeping the wither contained)! . This took a while to design (ran through several dozen designs before I finalized this, and even then there were some extra modifications that Panda helped me out with), but I have built 16 of these in the same world and kept them going for over 24 hours to see if it was perfect, and it was - no withers escaped. . Would like to mention that the entire idea of using two targets to make sure that the wither does not break out is completely mine - first time anyone has done this in minecraft history. The idea for keeping the wither contained while still being able to hit it (using fences to hold it in) was provided to me by Panda (although the woodchipper portion of the build works fine without this, breaking cobblestone is only possible with that modification). . IMPORTANT NOTE: many of you were thinking that it HAS to be built out of iron blocks. This is wrong - I just like iron in creative. You can build it out of stone if you want - stone, bricks, nether bricks, obsidian, cobblestone; all of those work (as well as any blocks with same or higher blast resistance. If you notice I use stone half slabs in places, and those do not break either. Just dont build it out of wood - wood does break. . Finally, here is the world download, for those who wanted one: http://www.mediafire.com/download/ck6vrwnmqejqr4c/wither_prison.zip DanPulse Delayer TutorialDanielKotes2013-08-24 | For those who want to replace their lines of repeaters with a smaller design, look no further. This redstone contraption will take in a pulse, delay it by however long you want, and then send it out at exactly the same length it came in (so if you put in a 12 tick pulse, delayed for 30 seconds, you get 12 tick pulse 30 seconds later. If you put in only 4 ticks into the same design, you get 4 ticks 30 seconds later). Completely customizable if you want longer delays, just switch out the pulse lengthener that I used with one that can handle longer periods of time. Most Efficient Iron Golem Farm Ever - Iron TrenchDanielKotes2013-08-20 | Taking TangoTek's idea to the other extreme (most compact instead of greatest production), I came up with this. Taking up the same area as the original iron golem farm, my version features 4x iron production (putting it right in the middle between my 32 village farm and 512 village farm) . Due to the way village detection works it is impossible (and I dare anyone to prove me wrong on this) to fit more villages into the design without raising the height of the building by 10 or so blocks or taking up more area. If you truly want more production, it is always possible to just build two of these right over each other (preferably mirrored so as to allow the blocks needing sun access access). NOTE: Minor retraction - THE RESET WORKS FINE - DanPulse Lengthener Tutorial - 3x3x3 or 2x4x3 footprintsDanielKotes2013-08-16 | A hopper based pulse lengthener that combines two hoppers with a simple RS-NOR latch. Very simple to make, and can be build in either a 3x3x3 or 2x4x3 footprints. Works in minecraft 1.6.2, as well as earlier versions that have hoppers in them.Pulse Lengthener Tutorial - Ethos timer modificationDanielKotes2013-08-16 | Ethos hopper timer is one of the best timers I have seen, and thus I post here my modification to it that would cause it to work only once, turning it from a timer into a pulse lengthener. Works absolutely fine in minecraft 1.6.2 as well as any earlier versions that have hoppers in them.Compact Minecraft Train Hub / Station - works in 1.6DanielKotes2013-08-13 | Exceptionally compact, this train station replaces the old design that used cactus to break the minecarts and collect them. As that method was based on a bug that phased you through the cactus (which has been fixed in 1.6), a new solution had to be found. . This version does not employ any bugs or glitches within the game, and thus is expected to work in future versions as well. At the same time it guarantees that you do not need to bother with buttons/minecarts/huge loading stations/etc. . Simple, easy to build, compact, works in 1.6... what more do you want? Oh right - tutorial for this will be coming out soon. . PS: there have been some comments about using an ender chest instead of a regular chest. Either one works, as you do not actually 'hit' the chest, instead appearing in front of it and get pushed out half a second later. You can not use something like a fence because then you would appear within the lava and not get pushed out of the way. I have tried to intentionally cause it to fail with a regular chest, and did not succeed, so I believe a regular chest works just as well.Compact&Tilable Redstone Selection Panel TutorialDanielKotes2013-08-12 | Using the dropper RS-Nor latch, I came up with this selection panel that is quite compact and easy to install. Pretty sure I am the only one that has come up with this concept as any other selection panels involve either torches or piston BUD - this design uses droppers and hoppers (optional). Works in 1.6.2!Smallest RS NOR Latch in minecraft 1.6.2DanielKotes2013-08-12 | Was searching for a good easily stackable RS-NOR latch for a selection screen and came up with this. Being only 2 blocks in size (not counting the comparators & repeaters for input/output) it is the smallest RS-NOR latch I have ever seen. . Also included in the video is a play on the idea where the RS-NOR latch is powered through only 1 input - if the signal is 1-4 ticks then it turns the latch on, if the signal is 5+ ticks then it resets the latch. .
NOTE: Apparently I have not searched for long enough on youtube, and this design has already been invented by MrSourceCoded. I did come up with this all on my own, but I will give credit to him for developing this idea first. . The second part of the video though I am pretty sure is new within the minecraft community. . Please do not say I ripped the idea off of him (or anyone else). I will reiterate - I came up with the idea myself, but MrSourceCoded came up with it first. Thank you.Horizontal Piston Monorail (fast and simple)DanielKotes2013-08-09 | Was just browsing the youtube channels and came across these ideas. Sure they were a year old or so, but I had an extra half an hour during lunch and decided to see if I cant cobble up something smaller and faster than what most people were posting. Suffice to say I did. Really small and simple design, runs as fast as I could get it. ... Ok, ok - it is not an epic build like my iron farm, but that took a month to design and build while this took 30 minutes. You get what you invest.
Those who are wondering why I removed it and re-upladed almost at the same time, I didnt notice there was no sound until I started to turn off my microphone and found it on mute...512 village Iron Trench Farm RebuildDanielKotes2013-08-08 | No sound, sorry for that. Anyway, this is a 15x speed up of the iron trench farm reset loop.
