If you are compassionate to yourself it's very hard to do harmful behaviors. So self-compassion is like a door that leads to full recovery. Self-compassion won't get rid of the hard moments but it changes how you deal with them, how you feel, and how you respond and all of this will have a positive effect on your recovery.

In recovery, we can't just work on stopping the restrictive and disordered behaviors but we must also work on the thoughts and beliefs that are fuelling those behaviors in the first place. Beliefs like: “I can only be happy if I’m thin”, "people will judge me if I gain weight”, "nobody will love me if I gain weight” and so on. In today's video, we will go through a simple process you can use to start rewiring those limiting beliefs and negative thoughts.

In the last week's video, I talked about challenging your fear foods...BUT, understandably, that brings up a lot of questions, fears, and concerns around eating those "unhealthy" and "bad" foods. In today's post, I will give you some tips on how to challenge your fear foods. If you are going through eating disorder recovery it's most likely you have a lot of fear foods. These are the foods that cause you fear, guilt, and anxiety. You have tried to restrict or limit these foods in some way because you believed they are "bad" or "unhealthy" for you. But to gain back food freedom and to fully recover from the eating disorder you must make peace with ALL FOODS. And you can start this process by challenging your fear foods - eating them consistently, adding them back into your diet, buying those foods and keeping them in your house, choosing challenging meals over safe options, etc.

Today's video is about how to reframe your negative thoughts. It's a simple but efficient way to start working on your mindset in eating disorder recovery.
As you probably know recovery brings up a lot of self-critical and negative thoughts - "I'm just bingeing and out of control!", "I will just gain and gain and it will never stop!", "I'm fat and disgusting!".
It's important to recognize that just because you may think something doesn't mean it's a fact. Our thoughts are most often irrational and untrue. And much more importantly - most of our negative thoughts are not helpful!
And you are not a victim to your thoughts. You don't have to take them as facts and then react and act accordingly. Instead, you can start to actively question, challenge, and reframe your thoughts to something more true and helpful. And this can make such a difference to how you feel, what action you take, and how your recovery will progress.

If you struggle with bingeing on sweets then this video is for you! I will tell you 3 common reasons you are bingeing on sweets and how to stop them.
I used to be so obsessed with sweets and sugary foods. I would binge on several big bars of chocolate in one go. I could also eat an entire cake in one sitting. I would eat and eat and still not feel satisfied. I felt like a bottomless pit.
I truly thought that I am an "emotional eater", I am just "addicted to sweets" and that there was something deeply wrong with me.
If you struggle with any of this I completely understand and know what it feels like. But know that there is a way out of this and I will tell you exactly how to do it!
Because now I have a very normal relationship with foods - I eat all foods and whatever I want. Yes, I also eat sweets. I love ice cream, chocolate, and cookies...but I no longer feel out of control around these foods and I have zero desire to binge on them. I have normal hunger cues - I eat when hungry and stop when full.
But there are several things I did to normalize my relationship to all foods, including sweets. And in today's video, I want to share with you the 3 most common reasons for bingeing on sweets and how you can overcome them.

For most people who start eating disorder recovery their eating patterns are all over the place - they have been restricting, skipping meals, trying to eat less during the daytime only to binge out at nighttime, they haven't provided their body with consistent fuel throughout the day - all of this has messed up their hunger cues and stressed out their bodies. So many people just don't know how to eat when they start recovery - what could be some of the first steps? And something like regular eating may seem such a basic concept... but time and time again it's what I end up talking about with most of my new clients. Typically it's one of the first steps we start implementing to restore their normal hunger cues. I never prescribe any meals plans and most people don't need to count calories (to eat enough) in their recovery. But regular eating provides a basic form of structure that I see is helpful for so many people.

Isn't recovery supposed to make me feel better, not worse? Many people feel they had way more energy when they were restricting and think maybe all this eating and not exercising is not good for them?

I think it's very important to start recovery before you think you are "ready", and before you think you know everything. Because in reality, you can't know everything before you go through it and learn as you go. So don't worry about doing recovery "perfectly", it's more important that you just do it and start. But definitely learn from your mistakes, or from the mistakes of others to save some time.
In today's post, I have put together the 8 most common traps people fall into in eating disorder recovery. I fell into many of them myself so I'm not perfect either (but I still recovered!) :) I hope this post helps you save some time on your recovery path and avoid... or at least shorten these detours.

Today's post is all about recovery burnout. Many people feel totally exhausted with recovery - constantly having to challenge themselves, go against all the food rules, face fears, resist urges, and deal with the fears and negative thoughts that come up. Unfortunately, there is no way to avoid facing all of that in recovery... BUT there are some things you can do to make sure this process can get easier over time and it can be as fast as it possibly can be so you don’t risk burning out.

This week is Christmas and for many people, this means sharing elaborate meals with friends and family. And for people in eating disorder recovery, this can bring up a lot of fear, anxiety, and GUILT - specifically around food.
But remember - just because you may FEEL guilty, doesn't mean there really is something to feel guilty about.
Even though those feelings feel absolutely real you must remember that those feelings are often based on unhealthy rules, limiting beliefs, and diet mentality. And only by challenging those rules and beliefs our feelings around food can change!
In today's video, I will teach you a 4-step process you can follow to work on getting rid of the food guilt and to rewire your brain!

Last week we talked about the set point weight - what it is and how it works. See here: youtu.be/Zg6JMgmkcL4
But in today's video, I will answer one of the most common questions - "How do I know when I’m at my set point weight?"
If you are following me then you are likely recovering from some kind of restriction. And when you have spent weeks, months, or maybe even decades trying to suppress your weight it's very hard to know what is actually your natural weight or set point weight.
And while it's true that nobody can tell you exactly what is your optimal weight, there are, however, some specific indicators that will tell you when you are likely at your set point. And in today's video, we will talk about what they are exactly.

Today's video is all about the set point weight. In case you haven't heard about it yet but our body actually does have a pre-determined weight where it wants to naturally settle at. We can’t choose what weight we would like to be but our body has its own weight range that is mostly predetermined by our genetic makeup.
What is set point weight?
Set point weight is the body’s natural weight where it can maintain its health and function optimally. It is also largely pre-determined by your genetic makeup. Just like there are people in various different heights there are also people with various body shapes and sizes.
Set point weight is something your body will maintain by itself without you having to monitor it or trying to control. It doesn’t matter if you eat some days more or some days less – you still end up in the same weight range.
Maybe you even know some people who eat how much they want, they don’t diet but still stay at the same weight? This is because of their set point weight that regulates itself.
Our hunger cues, metabolism, and other body processes work together to maintain our weight. Our body is naturally designed to do so. And yes, even YOUR body has this ability to maintain your set point weight. But you need to recover so your body can restore all those functions.

Invisible eating disorders video: youtu.be/O7aS4GfL3d8
Many people suffer from invisible eating disorders. It's very unfortunate that so many people feel they don't deserve help because they are not "sick enough" and don't fit under the typical eating disorder stereotype - the underweight teenage girl who doesn't eat.
An eating disorder is not a "one size fits all" kind of destination where you must get in order to deserve help and feel like your issue is taken seriously. In eating disorders there is a lot of grey area where symptoms can vary from person to person.
You don't need a medical diagnosis or a specific label in order to feel that your struggle is validated and real. It's most important that you validate yourself and seek out help. To put it very simply - if you feel your eating is not normal and it causes you stress then you deserve and need to get help and support.
This is an interview that I did with one of my former clients, Therese, where we talk more about the invisible eating disorders and she shares her journey to full recovery.

Today's video is about extreme hunger in recovery from a restrictive eating disorder and why you are not just "bingeing" but actually are just very very hungry.

Today's video is something exciting and inspirational. I'm interviewing one of my former clients, Migle, about how she fully recovered from 6 years of anorexia.
Different recovery professionals had told her that since she was suffering from chronic anorexia then full recovery would take her at least 7-10 years...but by hearing her story now you will see how that wasn't the case.
I hope her story makes you believe in full recovery!
