Australian Desert Vivarium Build | VARANUS ACANTHURUS GECKOS 2018-12-22 | Vivarium setup for an Ackie Monitor. The background was made for Leopard geckos so i had to adjust it for the monitor. Cut down the ledges and coated them with two layers of tile adhesive. Colored the background and covered it with sand as it was still wet, this gives whole thing a more natural look.Adding the substrate was a mess and i didn't really know what i was doing ':D I use eco earth, sand, gravel and Excavator clay on top. I added the Excavator clay last because at first i didn't plan to use it..i didn't film me adding water to make it compact at the top but for him still to be able to dig. At the left side he has at least 15cm of substrate and the rocks are stable and cannot be moved by the monitor. Leopard gecko brumation guide GECKOS 2017-12-11 | Brumation Guide for Leopard gecko keepers:Leopard geckos should be brumating every year at the correct temperatures. It's their natural behaviour and lengthens their lifespan. Here's how i do it:September: getting the poop tested on parasites. If the tests come back negative i'll start the brumation process. It's very important that only healthy geckos go into brumation! (if they have parasites, treat them and start a bit later)October/15: Last time feeding and reducing the light/heat from 12 to 10 hours a day. Leave them for 3 weeks to empty their bowels completely. It's very important that the guts are "empty" because if not, they cannot digest the remaining food at low temperatures and can die because of it.November/5: reducing the light/heat to 8h per dayNovember/12: reducing the light/heat to 6h a dayThen reduce the light every two days for 1 hour November/14: 5h per dayNovember/16: 4h per dayNovember/18: 3h per dayNobember/20: 2h per dayNovember/22: 1h per dayNovember/24: 0h per dayNovember/26: transfering them into their containers and put them into a room where it's about 10° to 15° Celcius. I leave them for 3 months depending on the outside temperatures.During that time i check on them once a week and change the water.
