Challenger dedication/Paramount Pictures logo (from Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, 1986) Wolf King 2005 2026-09-16 | It was a wholesome move on the Star Trek cast and crew to dedicate The Voyage Home, which is pretty much the funniest entry in the original series, to the ill-fated astronauts of NASA space shuttle Challenger, which, in January 1986, blasted off and then exploded in the air 73 seconds later, and then plummeting into the ocean, killing everyone on board. The tragedy was filmed live and broadcasted on live TV with millions of Americans tuned in, including the young families of the crew. It was a shame, and to this, I say kudos to the late great Leonard Nimoy and the cast and crew of Star Trek IV for dedicating the movie to them. The movie also stars Willie Nelson, Jim Belushi, and Tuesday Weld. And it was co-produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and Ronnie Caan (James' brother).
