My Smallest Apothecary Chest Yet parillaworks 2022-01-06 | This little apothecary chest was a present for my dad and was made to hold small pocket knives. Making the Squiggle Ring Box parillaworks 2021-12-15 | This was an interesting build for one of my earliest clients. The objective was to store rings and cuff links. The wood is jatoba which is quite dense. Each squiggle is 3/4" thick and received 3/8" radius roundovers on either edge to give a half-round profile. The 80 Drawer Apothecary Cabinet parillaworks 2021-10-28 | I'm back with another large apothecary cabinet! This is my third large one of the year and possibly the biggest challenge yet. The case is oak with a jet black finish. The drawer fronts are from a single chunk of 16/4 mahogany. The rest of the drawers are soft maple. Making a Music Box: A 5 Year Anniversary Present parillaworks 2021-09-20 | This is a little music box I made for my wife as a gift for our 5 year wedding anniversary. We agreed not to get each other gifts but I had to make an exception for the "wood" anniversary! The wood comes from the old floors of our wedding venue and is dade county pine, or slash pine, which is very rare these days. Making a Cherry Record Cabinet parillaworks 2021-09-06 | This record cabinet is made of solid cherry. I started with 4/4 rough lumber and milled everything down to 3/4" thick. Making a Walnut Display Cabinet with an Inset Door parillaworks 2021-07-22 | This cabinet was made to hold and display my wife's pharmacy collectibles. Most of it is made of walnut along with some white oak and curly maple details. The dimensions are about 32" x 18" x 10". The finish is Rubio Monocoat Oil + 2C Pure. Making a Cocobolo and Curly Maple Chessboard parillaworks 2021-06-24 | This chessboard is made of cocobolo and curly maple, along with eat Indian rosewood for the frame. The top and bottom of the board are 3/16" veneers glued to an MDF core. The frame is attached with glue and splines. The bottom is covered with a high quality felt. Each square is 2.125" x 2.125". Making a Miniature Barrister Bookcase parillaworks 2020-12-24 | Plans Available: parillaworks.com/shop/barristerHi! These walnut barrister bookcases were made as a gift for my mom for Christmas. They'll be used to display various trinkets and knick knacks. The boxes are modular and can stack on the one beneath with the bottom one registering on the base. Making a Solid Walnut Desktop parillaworks 2020-08-26 | This desk is 84" long and 30" wide; the L part extend out an additional 14" for a total with of 44". The top is a touch under 1.75" thick. I used steel c-channel to mitigate any future warping. The finish is 2 coats of amber shellac followed by 6 coats of matte waterbed polyurethane. Turning a Bowl from Fallen Hurricane Wood parillaworks 2020-07-26 | This was a piece of wood I found in the aftermath of Hurricane Irma in 2017. It's been drying ever since and ready to become a bowl. I used carbide turning tools. The finish is walnut oil. The size of the bowl is about 8" x 3" and has a rough volume of 6 cups (I put a gallon zip loc bag in and slowly filled it with water until I thought it was full). Making a Big Oak Coffee Table parillaworks 2020-07-10 | This behemoth is about 48" long, 24" wide, and 18" tall. Everything is solid white oak except for the drawer fronts, which are walnut. And the drawer bottoms which are baltic birch plywood. The finish is charcoal Rubio Monocoat. Making a 7000 Piece Wooden Mosaic Portrait parillaworks 2020-05-13 | Hi! It's been a while. I hope everyone is doing as well as they can during these crazy times. Making a Little Squiggle Wine Rack parillaworks 2020-03-13 | This little squiggle is about 24" x 7" x 2" and made of solid ash. A master template was cut on the CNC to get the initial shape. From there, each piece is glued to together and flush trimmed from the previous piece. This extruded profile method can be used in a variety of ways, even if you don't have a CNC router handy. Making a Mini Crosscut Sled for Dados parillaworks 2020-02-09 | This mini sled will be perfect for batching dados in an upcoming project. The zero clearance inserts will allow me to cut any width dado without tearout. The sled is 18" x 12" and uses 1/2" for the bed. The runners are maple while the fences are sapele. Making a 48 Round Walnut Tabletop parillaworks 2019-12-22 | Hi! This will most likely be my last video of 2019! I hope everyone had a great year! This piece was for a local customer that needed a 48" round table top. They provided a nice metal base which paired well with the walnut. I used 6/4 lumber and finished with a thickness of 1.25". The big 16" jointer came in handy and allowed me to break this build into smaller sub panels that could be flattened along the way. Making a Mantel for Our Fireplace parillaworks 2019-12-05 | Hi! This was a pretty simple project. A lot of videos out there have shown this method for making floating shelves and mantels because it works very well. The mantel is made of ash and slips over a simple 2x4 frame. I preserved the end grain of the boards so that the mantel would look more like a beam than a box. The stain is a combination of two colors: Jacobean and Ebony, both wiped on separately. The finish is two coats of matte waterbed polyurethane applied with a foam roller.The mantel dimensions are about 60" long, 6" deep, and 5" tall.Here are products I like to use often in the shop. Making a Cocobolo Mallet on the Lathe parillaworks 2019-11-12 | Hey everyone! This was a quick one day project that turned out pretty nice. The head is made from some 2x2 cocobolo while the handle is made from some leftover maple. I drilled a 1" hole in the head before turning it down on the lathe. Then I turned a matching 1" tenon on the handle that fit perfectly in the mortise. I glue the two pieces together then added a 1/4" brass pin through the head to lock everything in place. I also added leather patches to each end of the head to prevent it from marring anything it hits. The finish is walnut oil. Thanks for watching!Here are products I like to use often in the shop. Making a Large Serving Tray parillaworks 2019-11-06 | Welcome back! This serving tray is about 30" x 24" x 2.5". It was made using leftover offcuts along with a few new pieces of rough lumber. The woods used include walnut, maple, cherry, and ash. The tray starts as a large panel and then has four sides cut off and flipped up to create the walls of the tray. The handles were made using the CNC and were reinforced with an accent piece of cherry arranged perpendicular to the grain of the tray. The finish is a food safe walnut oil. Making a Different Kind of Maloof Joint parillaworks 2019-10-29 | Hi! This was a quick little experiment that came to mind. This is my take on a Maloof joint using a large dowel as the leg. There is a bunch of refining to be done to make this even better and more precise but this is a decent start. The biggest key is making sure your dowels are the same diameter as the hole your forstner bit will drill. Hopefully I can incorporate this into a project or two in the coming months. Making a Set of Exotic Wood Ring Boxes parillaworks 2019-10-15 | Starbond Glues: starbond.com/?rfsn=3031807.073474 (affiliate)Hi! This was a pretty quick little build. It was a custom order I received on Etsy. The client wanted a set of 4 ring boxes that were perfect 1.5" cubes. He supplied the awesome wood blanks which I believe are meant to be turning blanks but were perfect for this. I used the CNC router to make sure all of the magnets were placed perfectly. Each top can match with each base without issue. I sanded all the way to 1200 grit and finished the boxes with walnut oil. Making a Little Apothecary Wall Cabinet parillaworks 2019-10-04 | Hi! This cabinet is made of solid quartersawn sapele that I had left from my first apothecary cabinet build almost two years ago. The dimensions are about 40" x 20" x 7". The joinery for the outer case uses dowels while the inner dividers use stopped dados. I used AutoCAD to model the drawing but usually measure off my workpiece to get the exact fit right. The drawers are made of maple but feature a walnut book match running vertically. The drawer hardware along with the hooks had conflicting finishes so I painted them to match. The finish on the wood is danish oil.The fabric was picked out from a local fabric store and is stapled to a 1/2" plywood pack panel.
