Oakley & The Oaklettes Learn to move with the Grove! Raptor Rehabber 2012-05-02 | Hi everyone, This is Oakley the juvenile Great Horned Owl. He came to us after a Tornado hit in Kansas a few years ago. Whenever we get babies, we try to put them together for comfort and security. He was by himself so I put a puppet in with him until I got some other ones his age. I had just fed him and I use a camoflauged sheet over me so he doesn't see me as a food source. I wanted to see what he would do when he heard a strange voice, so I played the puppet. Here are the results! I only did this once. We got in a few more a few days after this video, and we put them together. He was finally released a few months after this video. Our center is a nonprofit organization, that takes in on average 175 birds a year that have bee injured or orphaned. We also find forever home for ones that cannot go back to the wild, but are comfortable living in captivity and become educational ambassadors. 100 7613 Raptor Rehabber 2018-05-24 | This is an abandon Baby Barn Owl that a farmer found in his grain elevator, right before he filled it up. It just started eating meat and we are feeding it Quail meat, soaked in vitiHawk, and water. He also gets liver, heart lung and a little bone not much. Once he opens his eyes or Her I will wear a Welders Mask and a poncho so he doesn't imprint on me. Tasha The Blind Dog mice catching machine! Raptor Rehabber 2015-10-31 | " Tasha" The Blind Mouse catcher! Hi everyone, here is a short video on how we got our Blind Dog "Tasha" to run and fetch. We tried everything, until one day I saw her catch a wild mouse out in our Prairie Grass Fields. She did this while running and solely on Hearing and smell! Well we have frozen mice for our rescued Birds of Prey including Eagles that we would thaw out before feeding the birds. We run a rescue center for injured Raptors with the hopes of releasing them back to the wild. "Tasha" has fur and paws instead of Feathers and Talons. Our website is www.eaglevalleyraptorcenter.org. In this video you will see how "Tasha" will go after a small mouse thrown out in the fields and find it with her nose only! We then award her with on of her Doggie treats! She lets us take it out of her mouth, so she sometimes tries to eat it as fast as she can before I get to grab it! She is one of the gentlests, sweetest dogs I have ever know after all the abuse she has been through. Check out her sense of smell and hearing. A big Thank you to the Wichita Animal Action League for getting her out of the pound as she would have been euthanized because of her eyes. She is our Offical Greeter at our center for School Field Trips and Private Family Tours. The kids love her. She is now a certified Therapy Dog and will be trained to detect low Blood Sugar, as I am a Type II Diabetic. Raptor Rehabber 2015-10-31 | Here is a short video of "Tasha" Eagle Valley Raptor Center's Blind Dog that is the Center's Offical Greeter for the School Field Trips and private family Tours. It has been a learning process for us also. She is house broke, knows where all the rooms are, goes up and down the stairs, knows where the doors are to go outside, loves to catch mice and ride in the truck. She runs like crazy in our prairie grass fields, knowing there are no trees to run into. Let us know if you would like to see how she finds and catches mice. 100 6674 Raptor Rehabber 2015-10-25 | "Tasha" the Blind Dog Runs Again! Hi everyone thank you for viewing our video of our newest rescue. This is "Tasha a Blind Samoyed that was abandoned in a Hospital Parking Lot last year. Her eyes were so infected that they had to be removed. She was starving, full of fleas, she had worms and an infected anal gland. She most certainly would have been euthanized after Animal Control picked her up. A wonderful rescue group named Wichita Animal Action League took her and fostered her. Then a picture of her was sent to my FaceBook Page. I fell in love with her and said I wanted her. It was a long road to getting her well again. She had to have shots, be dewormed, weight put back on her, she needed a bath and a flea bath at that. A huge Thank you to Wichita Animal Action League for saving her and for letting us have her. She has brought so much joy into our lives. She is now a Licensed Therapy Dog, and is being trained to detect low Blood Sugars. This for a Dog that was going to be euthanized. She gets up and down the stairs in the house, knows where the trees are outside, and loves to ride in the Truck! We also rescue injured and orphaned Birds of Prey. She is a great guard dog and barks when she detects something is wrong. She is our offical greeter when we have School Field Trips to our Raptor Center. The bird than goes after the lure. She missed it the first time and got it the second time once it was on the ground. We are getting the bird ready and putting on a transmitter.
Kite Training a Falcon! Raptor Rehabber 2012-11-16 | Eagle Valley Raptor Center was the place to be as we trained a GyrFalcon to go after a Lure attached to a Kite. The purpose is to exercise the bird to strengthen its wings and chest and to teach it to come back to the lure for a treat in the event it flies off.
TinkerBell Our Little Hummingbird! Raptor Rehabber 2012-09-21 | This is "TinkerBell" a little Hummingbird that was brought in by a cat. She has a damaged wing, and at this time cannot fly. We don't feel she will be able to go back to the wild. So we are going to try and find a " STAY FOREVER HOME" at a zoo or nature center. She is in good shape other wise and is very calm around people and is eating own her own out of a feeder. Stayed tuned for future updates and wish us luck in finding her a home.
We are the World, We are the Children Raptor Rehabber 2012-07-31 | Here is today's intake of Mississippi Kites! 10 of them. We will be putting them in a larger pen tomorrow. They will be released sometime late August with some adults so they know to follow them south to the Gulf Coast.
Happy Hour @ Eagle Valley Raptor Center Raptor Rehabber 2012-07-30 | Here is one of our Mississippi Kites we got in today. She was dehydrated so I try to get them to take water from a sryinge. Then they eventually drink from a water bowl on their own. She took the water right away as she was very hot in the 110 degree weather we had today.
Hard to Say Goodbye Raptor Rehabber 2012-07-03 | One of the Hardest things we have to do at our Center is put down a bird that has suffered an injury to which it cannot recover from or live a good quality of life in Captivity. This Barred Owl substained a broken back and legs and is not repairable. We at least have made it comfortable, and thank the family that brought it in so it would not suffer our in the heat and die a slow death or be torn apart by a fox, cat or coyote. Thanks for letting me share this story.

I think I saw a June Bug! I Did, I Did, I Did see a June Bug! Raptor Rehabber 2012-06-17 | Hi Everyone, Hope you are all having a great weekend. I started training one of our Screech Owls that June Bugs, Moths and Millers are part of their natural Diet. They are often called the Backyard Owl because they will hang around houses that have a security or flood light. During the summer when it is hot and humid these lights will draw June bugs, Millers and Moths. Screechies love to eat these. So this little guy is getting his first taste of June Bugs. I am putting them in his cage live so he associates the movement of the bug with dinner time! I think he wondering why the bugs are alot more crunchy then the soft juicy mice and quail he has been getting. He is going to have to eat at McDonalds every now and then. He can't expect to get Red Lobster every night!

It was Windy out and t he wind was blowing right into the speaker, so my voice was not very good. Here is one of our program birds. Our Barred Owl. One of the things we do with educational birds is teach them that the hand is nothing to fear, and that they do not need to strike at it. They can put a hurt on you with those Talons! So this is how they see our hands. You can see that even wild animals like an owl have feelings and respond to touch and kindness!
Breakfast Time @ Tutor Time! I mean Eagle Valley Raptor Center! Raptor Rehabber 2012-05-31 | Here is our morning ritual at Eagle Valley Raptor Center. Changing towels, newspaper, fresh water and cleaning the crates especially the Kestrels,as they have a built in Missle Launcher and can shoot their stuff 5 or 6 feet! These are our littles babies, when they get older they will get to go outside in a large flight pen to exercise their wings and chest, and to catch live prey before they are released!
IM Hungry! Whats taking you so long! Raptor Rehabber 2012-05-29 | Hi Everyone Here is the 9th Screech Owl we have taken in since last weekend. This is a really little fellow and because he is so small he probably got picked on and kicked out of the nest. He came from Valley Center. So once we get him to eat on his own, he will be put with the other juveniles we have at this time. This is the sound they make when they are hungry and want momma to feed them.
Buddy The little Barred Owl Raptor Rehabber 2012-05-24 | Hi Everyone! meet " Buddy" our newest baby rescue. We got a call from Facebook Friend and long time support Sandy Wares. This little guy ended up in her backyard. She has cats, dogs, Horses and being she is in the country coyote's, Foxes, Raccoons and other predatory birds. So she brought him to our center today. After examing him he is in good health, and we will put him with "Barney" our other Barred Owl baby! I called him like his momma would and he responed like he would when he was hungry! Eagle Valleys Tiny Rescues! Raptor Rehabber 2012-05-20 | Here are two of Eagle Valleys littlest rescues. We received another Screech Owl today from the Storms near Harper last night. It looks like a little male judging by its size. It is much smaller than the one we got a few weeks ago from the Wichita Tornado. Males are smaller than the females. We will probably release them in a few weeks!

The Littlest Survivor Tigger The Screech Owl Raptor Rehabber 2012-05-09 | Yesterday we got this Little Screech Owl that was in the streets near Oaklawn. He was found by some workers cleaning and cutting up tree limbs. He has some injury to his right side, dehydrated and hungry, but should make it! His Momma must have fed him after the storm for him to still be alive several weeks later! They are tough little things!

Momma Killdeer & babies Raptor Rehabber 2012-05-02 | Here is our momma Killdeer who makes her nest every year in our parking lot. I always have to find the nest so I can put logs around it so no one will run over them. The babies just hatched yesterday. They will be up and running with mom and dad in the next day or two. If you noticed even though they just hatched there are no egg shells around. We hope the 4th one hatches today.
Oakley The Great Horned Owl and the Singing Oaklettes! Raptor Rehabber 2012-05-02 | Here is our latest Tornado Victim "Oakley" The Great Horned Owl baby. We like to give them a stuffed animal to cuddle next to when they are this small. It helps with stress and it gives them a sense of security. He wasn't quite sure on the singing though!
Oakley The Great Horned Owl Baby! Raptor Rehabber 2012-04-24 | Eagle Valley Received another Great Horned Owl baby today from the Oaklawn area. He is pretty small for this time of year, so he must have been a late hatch. Alot of time the smaller siblings get fed last, and picked on by their older and bigger brothers and sisters. They even get kicked out of the nest. He was very hungry and is eating on his own! That is a big plus. He is a cutie! We named him "Oakley" after being found near Oaklawn and in an Oak tree!
Cyclone The Baby Great Horned Owl Raptor Rehabber 2012-04-19 | We have our first Owl rescue from the Storms this past Saturday Night. This is a baby Great Horned Owl. It was found while some trees were being removed down by 63rd and Meridian. There were two other babies but they had died from the fall. This little guy is in pretty good shape considering what happened to him. We will probably have him for about 6 weeks.
Avatar The Spectacled Owl Raptor Rehabber 2012-04-12 | Here is "Avatar" one of Eagle Valley Raptor Center's most popular Birds! He grew up on Facebook starting out as a furry fuzzball and now he is a handsome Black and White feathered Adult Owl. They get the name from the white rings around his eyes that resemble Spectacled Glasses. Here is doing one of his favorite Things eating a mouse!
Tidbit The Screech Owl! Raptor Rehabber 2012-04-12 | They might be tiny, but they are fiesty little birds. Known as the " Backyard Owl", Screechies love to eat moths, & junebugs. The can put out a very loud "Screech" when frightened or calling a mate. They are cavity nesters and like big old trees with holes in them. You can attract them to your backyard by putting up a Screech Owl box!
Herman Munster The Turkey Vulture! Raptor Rehabber 2012-04-11 | Come See " Herman Munster" our famous mouse head pulling Turkey Vulture here at Eagle Valley Raptor Center! While seen as a nasty dirty bird, Turkey Vultures are actually a very clean and important bird to our Environment! While babies they have to pull the food from the parents to develope strong neck muscles needed to pull the meat off the carcasses of dead animals when they become adults!
Snowy Owl Training Raptor Rehabber 2012-04-10 | This is "Tundra" The Snowy Owl that was found near death from starvation, a fractured wing and covered with mites and ticks. He weighed only half of what he should have. He is doing much better and we are currently waiting for permits to exhibit him in educational programs. This is how we exercise his injured wing. It has calcified well but it still tends to hang low when he gets tired. With a migration of a couple of Thousand miles, releasing him back to the wild, would not be in his best interest, especially since he is a juvenile. Thanks for letting me share!

Dinner & Bonding Time with WaSu The Bald Eagle! Raptor Rehabber 2012-04-02 | Every Day at 7:00 PM, during the spring & summer months when it is warm, My educational Bald Eagle "WaSu" and I meet for some treats (mice) and bonding time. This is important that he can relate to me not only as a food source but someone he can trust. Even if he was very hungry he would not come close to me to get his food if he feared me or didn't trust me. You will notice I do not have ahold of him, so this is trust on my part also that he is not going to strike me with his beak and most inportantly those deadly Talons! Check it out!
Miles The Barn Owl Raptor Rehabber 2012-04-01 | Come see "Miles" The Barn Owl as we attempt to put his jesse back in his anklet! He loves to pull it out and we kind of play a game to distract him, so we are able to put it back in his anklet, without having to physically hold him. So it was a "HEAD SCRATCH" that did it! We got his jesse back in!

He has been with our center Eagle Valley Raptor Center in Cheney, Kansas for 11 years. He was a gunshot victim. "WaSu" love to take pictures with you! If you go and stand by his photo Studio, "WaSu' will go over and jump up and stand next to you for photo's! He is Union though, he charges me 1 mouse per photo!
Hanna Montana The Harris Hawk Raptor Rehabber 2012-03-29 | Here is one of our Favorite Birds at Eagle Valley Raptor Center. She is a 2 year old rescued Harris Hawk that recently had double cataract surgery at Kansas State University Vet Teaching School. We have been working on her table manners when eating. She is having some issues when asked to share her food! Well you be the judge!!!
