Well, I was really surprised by the Mitsubishi EK X. I expected it to feel tiny, lacking in confidence on the road, and cheap. Turns out, it feels like none of those things. It is really small, and the safety rating is a potential hindrance, but it's fun and nippy to drive - and it delivers the range that Mitsubishi claims.

Should we see more cheap, small, efficient EVs? I think so.

Rivals to the Mitsubishi EK X would include entry level versions of the BYD Dolphin, MG4, and forthcoming Chinese EVs like the Leapmotor.

Now, the CX-60 has a new rear shock absorber and new transmission software. We try out one of the first cars in Australia to be updated.

Since October 1, 2023, cars have been built this way from the factory, while CX-60 units built before that date are eligible for a free upgrade conducted at a Mazda dealership.

The verdict: the transmission is fixed (at least on this diesel tester) and the ride quality and body control is 40-50% better.

Hyundai has confirmed that it will add XRT models to its Australian SUV lineups in future.

In this video, editor Tom Baker checks out three XRTs currently on sale in the United States: the new Santa Fe XRT, the Tucson XRT midsize SUV and the Palisade XRT large SUV. There is also a Santa Cruz XRT pick-up that is sadly not for Australia.

Hyundai XRT models will tackle vehicles like the Toyota RAV4 Edge and Volkswagen Adventure grades which appear from time to time.

Expect A Very Sharp Price! (Kia EV5 2024 Review Walkaround)

After laying down its electric mark with the EV6 and EV9, Kia is about to lob what’s predicted to be a more attainable fully electrified option in the new EV5 midsize SUV.

The EV5 has landed in Australia - albeit in Korean spec - and Chasing Cars’ Olek Novak takes us on an in-depth walkaround in this new Tesla Model Y competitor that’s expected to hit showrooms around the $60K mark.

The Aussie-spec newcomer due in June will come in two grade levels across three variants, the high-spec version available in either front- or all-wheel drive. Estimated range peaks for the EV5 climb as high as 633kms WLTP for the long-range single-motor version.

The single-motor versions use a 160kW motor on the front axle paired with a 60kWh usable battery, while AWD adds 70kW at the rear to net 230kW total, powered by an 84kWh LFP unit.

Chasing Cars’ Tom Place takes a deep dive into the new Polestar 4 that’s landed in Australia ahead of the electric midsize coupe-SUV newcomer’s launch in August.

Our example is the white-hot Long Range Dual Motor version that offers 400kW and 686Nm total system outputs promising 3.8-second 0-100km/h performance and up to 580kms of range WLTP on a single charge.

Priced from $93,050 list, our example fits Plus ($8000) and Performance ($7200) packs that help lift as-test on-road outlay to around $125K, making it more a logical rival for the forthcoming Porsche Macan EV than Tesla’s Model Y.

The Polestar 4 also comes in a Long(er) Range Single Motor guise from $81,500 list, halving outputs to 200kW and 343Nm if boosting the outright range claim to 610kms WLTP.

Its party trick? There’s no rear windscreen. Instead, rear-viewing is facilitated via a nifty camera system.
