If you’re dabbling in incorporating more colors into your style, start simple and pick 3 colors. For the longest time my favorite scheme was a play of primary colors: muted or lightened reds, yellows, and blues. I think it’s because I was a @paulfrankpix fan in my youth 😎 I had like 5 wallets from them as a kid. Anyway, pick colors that bring you joy and start there, remember your accent colors can always be your staples. A white tank top or t-shirt for example.
I’m trying to fight the urge to buy out this top because it definitely checks a lot of my color block boxes 🙃 maybe I’ll just peek on the site and see how much it is….

Three episodes of my comedy web series “This Coulda Been An Email” are now available to watch on KweliTV (Kweli.tv). Atlanta seems to be the gift that keeps on giving because KweliTV reached out to me after seeing the show at The BronzeLens Film Festival here in Atlanta last August.
So, if you’re interested in supporting Black indie filmmakers and creators check out KweliTV and while you’re there give my show a watch as well 😏 because I would like to finish the last two episodes of season 1 but my bank account has told me to sit all the way down - with gusto 😭.
INGREDIENTS
- Your fav instant noodle packet
- 2 Duck eggs (I’m allergic to chicken eggs, I like going to H-Mart because they have alternate egg options like duck and quail)
- A few leaves of Bok Choy, chopped
- 2 cups of water (or whatever amount the instant noodles say you need)
- Your fav Furikake, for seasoning
- 1TBSP butter, or ghee, or oil - honestly whatever
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Add your chopped Bok Choy leaves into some boiling water and cover for about 2 minutes
2. Once Bok Choy is cooked, add the instant noodles and follow the cooking instructions. Usually, it’s 2 or 3 minutes cook time.
3. In your serving bowl, add the instant noodle seasoning and then pour your noodle Bok Choy mixture over it and combine everything together.
4. While it cools take the same pot, and melt your butter in it.
5. Fry two eggs over easy or flip them to your desired firmness. I like mine a little runny.
6. Place eggs on top of noodles and season with your favorite Furikake. Enjoy!

Blame it on the life and times of a full-time digital storyteller. As a Black American from Texas #210PorVida, I’ve known of Juneteenth for quite some time, a day celebrating delayed justice for freed Black Texans who were not informed of the Emancipation Proclamation until 2 years after the fact 🫠. Imagine being free and not knowing for two WHOLE YEARS. BRO. All I’m sayin’ is, I’m glad God saw it fit for me to be born a Black Texan in 1990 and not 1830. Anyway, this week’s meal prep is Chicken Tortilla Soup - a Texas-Mexican staple. This was one of the first dishes I learned to make when I first got married to Mr. Hallease…almost 12 years ago🫠…it’s a simple soup made even simpler by using an Instant Pot. As per usual, everything below is a suggestion, let the ancestors guide you! Also, save and share. If you spoon out 1.5 ladles and include some fixins it should get you to Friday. 🙋🏿♀️
✨INGREDIENTS✨
- 4 chicken thighs bone&skin on (fat is flavor)
- 4 or 5 hefty and juicy tomatoes, roughly chopped (or more if you have to use those small sad ones)
- 1 onion, chopped (white or yellow - ion care)
- 1 can black beans (drain or not, ion care)
- 1 Jalapeño, chopped (chop off the top and bite it to see how spicy it is - adjust your jalapeño amount accordingly)
- Some Chicken stock (like a cup or two)
- Some cumin (ionno mayne like a 1 tsp or 2 - I genuinely eyeball it)
- Some Salt and pepper
✨INSTRUCTIONS✨
- In a large bowl, mix together tomatoes, onion, jalapeño, cumin, and chicken stock
- Place your chicken thighs in the bottom of your Instant Pot and then pour the tomato mixture on top of it
- Set the Instant Pot to stew and make sure the vacuum seal is activated. It’ll take about 30 minutes.
- After releasing the pressure and switching the Instant Pot to keep warm, remove your chicken thighs and add your can of Black Beans.
- Carefully remove your chicken bones and skin from the thighs (put them in your compost or feed the skin to a furry friend) and shred the meat while adding it back into the Instant Pot
- Give everything some time to reheat and then add some salt and pepper to taste
- Serve with or without fixins!
✨FIXINS (optional)✨
- Tortilla chips
- Lemon or lime juice/wedges
- Favorite cheese mix (I usually do a Mexican cheese blend)
PS: The movers said we could bring our spices from HEB/Texas, so the way this inflation is set up, y’all gonna see brand clashes in the cooking content for the next year. I’m sorry I’m not sorry.

On Sundays, I make gluten-free buttermilk biscuits for Mr. Hallease and I’ve learned a few tried and true methods for getting the best biscuit. My favorite recipe is from Mama Knows Gluten Free so check her out for the details.
1. Cast iron is necessary for a nice crusty bottom. Also, the edges of the cast iron help the biscuits grow vertically not horizontally (remember there’s no gluten so they need shaping help)
2. Keep your butter cold! I cube and freeze my butter while the oven is pre-heating and I’m prepping the other ingredients. This is REALLY important.
3. Don’t overwork the butter into the dry mix. Pea-sized amounts of butter is great! Don’t go any smaller.
4. The dough will be hella wet. I always keep 1/8 cup of flour next to me for continual dusting through the folding process and don’t overfold your dough. Two folds to start and then start cutting out your biscuits. As you keep going, you’ll keep needing to refold anyway.
5. The oven needs to be hot. 450 or higher or your biscuits will flatten and/or take too long to cook and have a mushy consistency on the inside.
Happy Sunday and happy baking ya’ll! Remember to save this so you can reference it later.

In this episode of the StumbleWell Podcast, Hallease and Chris discuss an article in which a married woman decides to receive an erotic massage to reclaim her sexuality. Through the podcast we ask a simple, yet complicated, question is this cheating? The answer to that question aside, this article opened up our conversation to issues around sexual frustration that can come up in heterosexual relationships and how difficult it can be to repair miscommunications during intimacy. Keep it classy in the comments!

Every website needs amazing photography. Earlier this year I got the opportunity to launch a clothing rental site and I enlisted the help of a local photographer. We put together a variety of different looks and backgrounds to differentiate the site from others. I'm so happy with how the final website looks.
Hallease's Closet is a full-service clothing rental site. You can rent two pieces at a time, wear them however many times you want, and then return them - all for one monthly fee. A free return label is provided and we'll handle the cleaning services as well. I'm so excited about this launch, poke around the site and let me know what you think!

NEW CLASS ALERT! I’m so excited to announce my new @skillshare class on color correction and color grading with a beginner in mind. In this class, I’ll show you the basics of navigating the color workspace in Premiere Pro while also giving some of my favorite tips and tricks for color correcting myself and others.
True to form, I’ve built out a full Premiere Pro Project for you to download and follow along with me as well. That’s right you’ll be my colorist for two scenes from my comedy web series #ThisCouldaBeenAnEmail and you’ll have some scenes from a travel vlog that I produced earlier this year.
My goal is to give you two scenarios, a narrative project where lighting is more controlled and a documentary where you’ll have to color shot for shot. I hope y’all enjoy this one and I can’t wait to see what y’all do with my footage. 🎬

Happy Monday y’all, let’s meal prep. Today I’m making chickpea and quinoa salad. I love munching on this throughout the week because there’s no warm up necessary, just plop it in the fridge and take out about two large scoops each day for lunch. I also like this because it’s packed with fiber for that #diabetesplate win. If you’re really trying to watch overall carb intake - just remove the quinoa. Reminder: the recipe below is just for ✨vibes✨ let the ancestors guide you.
INGREDIENTS
- 1 cup cooked quinoa
- 1 can chickpeas drained
- 2 cucumbers pealed and cubed (or more if you like cucumbers)
- 8oz container crumbled feta cheese
- 1/2 red onion or 1 shallot if you’re trying not to waste a red onion (I never finish them)
HERB BLEND
- Pick some herbs and spices fam…I usually do a combo of Basil, Thyme, Oregano, and Celery Flakes but there’s no set rules here. Just vibe.
- A pinch or two of salt
- A pinch or two of pepper
- Some Olive oil
- Some lemon juice/the juice of a lemon
INSTRUCTIONS
1. In a large bowl (ideally one with a top), mix together the quinoa, drained chickpeas, chopped cucumbers, feta and onion
2. Put the top on and mix it all together
3. Set aside and create your herb blend. Just vibe
4. Add the herb blend to the mixture, put the top on and shake again to combine.
5. Enjoy! Take out 2 scoops each day and it’ll more or less get you to Friday.

Throughout this vlog, you'll hear and see my struggles through this process. I won't pretend this isn't a big move for me. I've taken a few calculated risks throughout my creative career to reach the next level but this one hits different. I know that the transition financially will be difficult but as always I'm here to document the journey and share it with all of you here on this channel.
When I move to Atlanta in May, I hope to transition into directing and eventually show running. To connect with more creatives, I want to get into BTS (behind-the-scenes) shooting with my FX3, sound, and lighting package.
Storytelling and filmmaking have always been my passion and I'm excited (and scared) for this new transition!

ASMR VERSION - While editing this video I realized that it gave good ASMR vibes so - enjoy!
This is a one pot dish to make on Monday and have for lunch the rest of the week. It’s already #glutenfree and pretty low-carb for my #diabetesplate folks as well. I learned to make this at such a young age that typing out instructions and ingredients was actually really hard. In the spirit of soups - let the ✨ancestors✨ guide you through this process. The recipe below is an outline, not step-by-step instructions. I hope you enjoy and have a great week.
INGREDIENTS
- 1 lb mild Italian sausage
- 4 strips bacon, chopped (or less if you’re watching fat or more if you’re a keto queen and like bacon 😈)
- 1 onion, chopped (yellow/white I don’t care)
- 1 large russet potato sliced (or more if carbs aren’t your enemy)
- 32oz+ container of chicken broth
- 4-ish cups of water (basically enough to cover the potatoes)
- Kale, roughly chopped (as much as you want, I like kale so I put a lot) #fiber
- Red Pepper Flake to taste
- Salt/Pepper to taste
- Heavy Whipping Creme for serving (or a lower fat alternative like 2%milk)
DIRECTIONS
1. In a large pot, cook down your bacon. Don’t worry about it burning or creating a fond on the bottom of the pot, the Italian sausage and onions will deglaze it. Once cooked down, place in a container with some paper towels to minimize fat and use a slotted spoon to remove it.
2. Cook down your Italian sausage in a similar manner. Did it deglaze your pot? It should have. Take it out and add it to the bacon once cooked through.
3. Throw your onions in and let them cook down for a few minutes and add some Red Pepper Flake to taste towards the end.
4. Leave your onions in the pot and add the sliced potatoes.
5. Add your chicken broth and water to the mixture and bring everything to a boil
6. Hey Siri, set a timer for 15 minutes! Let it simmer so the potatoes get soft.
7. While that’s happening prep your kale if you need to.
8. Once your potatoes are tender and falling apart throw all the meat back in and some salt and pepper to taste.
9. Lastly, add your kale and let it wilt into the soup for 5-10minutes.
10. Serve with a dash of heavy whipping cream and your favorite gluten free or low-carb bread!

The autofocus on this thing is ABSURD which makes it really easy to film myself alone as well. Again, it can be controlled from your phone or tablet using the Sony app and it shoots vertical natively as well. I want to re-iterate, this setup is not necessary to tell your own stories. This camera was a very strategic purchase I made to future proof my company and thusly my livelihood as a filmmaker and storyteller.
Also, a lot of y’all have asked what this series is shot on - this video, the one you’re looking at, right now, here, on this application, was shot on my ✨Sony ZV1✨ not my FX3 (obviously because it’s in the video). So, compare this one with the other two and see if you can spot the difference in quality of 10bit FX3 vs 8bit ZV1. When viewing content on a phone, the difference is negligible in my humble opinion. So think about that for a second, the ZV1 retails for $750 the FX3 retails for $4000 🫠
If you’re trying to put things on a prominent streamer like Netflix, Hulu, etc then yeah the FX3 is approved for those platforms and probably one of the least expensive cameras you can buy, but if you’re living life on Al Gore’s internet (like most of us tbh) across social media platforms, the ZV1 is still more than enough.
Aight, I want to know though, was this series helpful at all? I like explaining my process to people because I wish I could have had more tangible examples when I was starting out AND even now I still seek out other people’s processes so can not over think it so much and just do #virgos amirite?! If this was helpful though, what would you like me to answer next? Let me know in the comments.

When I’m ready to have more creative control (even though you can have a lot of control with an iPhone), I grab my Sony ZV-1. Do not sleep on the good ol’ point and shoot camera because this one is a BEAST. A lot of times it’s about having equipment that makes you ✨want✨ to go out and capture something and tell your story, not equipment that makes you ✨look✨ expensive.
I love this camera because it films 4k, native vertically (great for this platform), and can be controlled via bluetooth from your phone. You can also send everything you film easily to your phone for posting or editing.
It’s got a builtin/digital ND filter, that’s basically 🕶️ for your lens so you can have a lower F stop and get that shallow depth of field even outside on a bright sunny day.
Also, straight out the box, the auto features on this camera are stellar. So, whether you know a lil something something about filmmaking or you’re growing into the role this camera can work with you and grow with you.
Whenever I’m traveling and I want more creative control, or if I’m vlogging out and about in the world in general I bring this camera. It fits in my crossbody and again its non-filmmaker proof. I can switch it to auto, and hand it off to a stranger to take the photo after I spend a minute telling them exactly how I want my framing of course 😉
There are a TON of great tutorials for this camera, and it has SO MANY features I can’t list them all in one post but if you’re looking for the most bang for your buck check out the Sony ZV-1. There’s a reason why I gave 2 of these away during my giveaway this year 😎. It’s just solid.
Tomorrow, I’ll show y’all the high-end set up, and that video will have been shot on my Sony ZV1 as well so you can compare the footage to the other videos in this series (which are shot on my Sony FX3). Also, if you’re interested in anything I’ve mentioned Lincoln May Bye-oh!

Something that gets slept on a lot in filmmaking is audio. If you’re trying to create short documentaries using your phone, consider upgrading your audio first! I use DJI’s microphone kit, yes my little fuzzy mics . It plugs directly into all of my cameras and almost any phone. Plus, you can record a back up track to the device itself so if anything goes wrong you’ve still got good sound.
I hope this helps! I’ll be back with my “mid-tier” storytelling set up tomorrow? Let’s say tomorrow. 😅

I use a lot of different tools to tell stories on Al Gore’s Internet, and obviously the quickest and easiest tool is my phone. Remember when phones used to ✨just✨ make calls?! Wild. Anyway, to get the full capabilities of my phone I make sure it’s filming in 4k at 24fps because #cinematic. I also make sure that HDR (High Dynamic Range) is turned on. In so few words, it allows you to have more freedom in post production with color correction/grading by picking up more information while filming. To get the footage from my phone to my computer I use AirDrop or Dropbox, it just depends on how long I was recording and thusly how big the files are. If I’m using my phone to film I try to keep the clips short so it transfers easily.
I hope this helps! I’ll be back with my “mid-tier” storytelling set up tomorrow? Let’s say tomorrow. 😅

Mr. Hallease helped me pick these new colors. They’re a combination of earth tones and gold which is fitting because ya girl stays grounded. Rooted. Amen?
I’ve enjoyed wearing waist beads through the years because they give perspective. I first started wearing them when I was trying to get back into shape but didn’t want to have the scale be my main source of progress.
There have been times where I weighed myself and I was significantly heavier than usual but the beads sat lower on my waist - why? I was weight lifting and building muscle and there have been times where they sat higher but I was the lightest I’ve been (while training for a race) that let me know I was bloating a lot and I adjusted my diet accordingly. I’ll also feel the beads ride up and down my waist throughout a day too, a gentle reminder of my body’s natural daily cycle of eating and digesting. If you’re someone who’s working on having a healthier relationship with your body consider waist beads as a tool and before you ask, I get all my beads from Fitbeads.
A big thank you to everyone that applied! It was so fun to watch you all create and tell your own story. I hope you continue to do so, whether it's here or somewhere else. I decided to announce the winners today April 1st in honor of my late grandmother Hallease Dudley Walker who I'm named after. Today is her birthday. Rest in peace grandma Hallease!
Endeavoring to persevere,
Hallease

Calling all independent filmmakers! Getting the idea for your project out of your head and onto the page is hard, especially when all you can reference are things that already exist.
“It’s like [insert music video], but instead of this it’s that.”
“It’s like [insert award-winning film] but instead of robots it’s monsters.”
Late last year I wrote a sci-fi short film and decided to try and use@Adobe Firefly Beta to create some style frames for the project. Y’all know the pitch deck gotta be 🔥 for people to cut you that check. Adobe Firefly is a generative AI model, that can currently do text-to-image and text effects. What do y’all think of the final style frames? Would you watch this film? #AdobeFirefly #Adobepartner
Me that whole day: 🫠🫠🫠🫠🫠🫠🫠🫠
This is the struggle of being a creative though, you’re constantly applying and putting yourself. As the great career coach @tdjconsulting told me when I first got going with @stumble.well
“A no is just a not yet.”
I post this not to have a pity party but just to remind my fellow creatives out there that getting a lot of no’s is par for the course. Stay strong y’all.

@Adobe let me try out their new generative AI model, #AdobeFirefly. If you’re a content creator like me then you know that thumbnails and titles are everything and Firefly is a tool you can use to help create. I decided to use text effects to generate an imaginative version of some simple text for my thumbnails to add a bit of razzle dazzle! What do you think? Eventually, this tool will be integrated directly into Creative Cloud, and powered by transparency features like Content Credentials, making the tools I use every day as a creative even better. The uses for this are endless and this is only a little bit of what it can do. #AdobePartner

TLDR: Side effects aren’t worth the benefits (for me).
I've always been curious about light therapy, and now that it's more widely available I was excited to test it out on my deep skin. In this video, I'll show my before and after results of using the Aduro face mask 5 days a week for 3 weeks for at least 5 minutes. I've learned that blue light therapy can cause hyper-pigmentation in deeper skin tones so I only stuck to red light therapy with this mask. Do you see any difference in my skin from using the mask? Let me know in the comments below.
