St George, St Paul, The River Thames TOB2N Tob2n 2023-05-05 | This year, we saw the London Marathon back to the usual spring weekend.It was the first time since 2019 that the event was run in the spring, as the previous three races were run in autumn due to the COVID-19 pandemic.The 2023 London Marathon was the 43rd running of the annual London Marathon on 23 April 2023, which happens to be Saint George's Day, the Patron Saint of England.If you have been to the streets of London, you might have seen statues of cast iron dragons holding a shield that bears the City of London's Coat of Arms. What's the connection with Saint Paul? That was the first time I watched the London Marathon in person after a few hours exploring the foreshore of the River Thames. WESSEX FIELD PART 2, TOB2N Tob2n 2023-04-14 | Back on the Wessex Field, as planned. And guess what? More Roman coins. It is definitely an area worth checking again and again. I am doing so e research in the area and hopefully I will find interesting information to share. What I have managed to find out was that there used to be an Roman aqueduct not far from where I am in the video. No doubt the Romans spent quite sometime on this field. Whether there was a settlement here, judging by the number of Roman coins found in a very small area, or they used this particular spot to trade goods, is uncertain. The Celtic silver Stater coin I found here (please see PART ONE, WESSEX FIELD) was probably used by the Romans as a way of payment.Meanwhile, I have also managed to find a variety of artefacts from different eras. They are all there hidden under the anaerobic mud of the historic River Thames.Why are all this objects in the Thames?When did they reach the waters of river? Who were these Londoners of centuries ago? WESSEX FIELD, TOB2N Tob2n 2023-04-02 | I've returned to the Wessex field, as I prefer to name it. This field has produced so many Roman coins in the past and, I thought, there must be some more to be found. I was right, and as expected, I have unearthed wonderful Roman coins, in almost mint condition, which you will see. My theory is that the Romans had a settlement here in this spot. If not a settlement, at least they traded here. I have also found an Iron Age coin amongst my discovery, which might also suggest that activity here pre-dated the Roman period. All coins shown in this video have not yet been identified by the FLO but I have done research and will share with you my thoughts. I have also created a soundtrack to go with the footage presented. Winter 2023 Tob2n 2023-02-18 | January and early February 2023, mid winter. I've escaped London for a few days leaving the River Thames foreshore behind.I headed to a beautiful part of the country.The weather was incredibly wet and cold, as expected at this time of the year but the area I stayed was unexpectedly wet. We had a number of floods for days. Eventually the temperature dropped quite dramatically and we had a number of days of snow falls. Window In The Skies, Feb 2023 Tob2n Tob2n 2023-02-05 | I was back on the Thames foreshore a couple of evenings ago. It is still still pretty dark (and cold and wet) out there but I have managed to rescue a few little finds.I will also include in this video an old find. Back in July 2022, during one of the hottest days of the year here in London, I popped down to the Thames foreshore. The object I found has a story behind it. This object has been beautifully restored by fellow mudlark, Christine Fernbank. I will have the pleasure to present you what Christine has done to this object and the final results.Meanwhile I will introduce to you new music in my video. I have taken the opportunity to learn and produce my own tunes so that I can attach them to my videos without having to relying on other musicians. Not having the issues with copyrights is the right step and it also gives me the chance to practice music which is another massive hobby I have.I hope you enjoy this video.Please, Please, Please, leave your comments below.
