How To Make Pine Cone Syrup - Mugolio -The Cough syrup you can pour over Pancakes! PREPSTEADERS 2023-08-06 | Make Pine Cone Syrup with this easy Mugolio recipe! Pine cone syrup is a delicious and healthy syrup you can pour over pancakes, waffles, or ice cream for a unique and sweet flavor. This syrup is great for coughs and colds, and it's a great addition to your emergency medicine kit.Here is how I make it:2 Cups Green young Pine Cones2-4 Cups of Organic Dark Brown Sugar(Wear gloves if you don't want sappy hands.)Dice up pine cones into 1/4 inch thick slices. Toss with the Brown Sugar and spoon into jar. (Fill completely and expect it to decrease in volume as it steeps). Set in a cool, dark place for at least 1 full month, or up to 1 year.In the first week, let to lid be loose, or uncap the jar periodically to let the fermentation pressure escape. (Some people use an actual fermentation lid.) After this month has passed, empty all contents into a large saucepan and heat slowly over low heat. Stir and turn periodically until all remaining sugar granules are dissolved.Pour into small (I use 4oz) jars that have been sterilized, screw lids on tight, and set upside down on a cloth until they return to room temperature. Store in a cool, dark cupboard or pantry until you give as gifts or devour. :) (Today I drizzled it over garlic seasoned pork loin. Because of this, I would use some caution with these pine cones. Pour the boiling water over them. Stir. Cover. Refrigerate overnight (or at least 4-6 hours). Strain liquid into a clean jar. Add Lemon Juice and say "Woooo!". Do not overwork.Roll out (or use your hands) to flatten to 3/4 inch thickness on a lightly floured surface (like your counter). Cut with a cup or Biscuit cutter into 12 equal biscuits. Place with their sides touching in a buttered cast-iron frying pan. Pre-heat the oven to 400 Degrees Fahrenheit while you let the biscuits just rest and rise a smidgen. When oven is hot, place them in and watch for them to be golden in 10-12 minutes. Pull them out with hot-pads. Smear a bit of butter over the tops and let them cool enough to serve with fresh cream butter and homemade preserves. How to Bake Banana Bread and Seal it in a Canning Jar PREPSTEADERS 2020-12-25 | Banana Bread sealed in a Canning JarIngredients 3/4 cup shortening 2 3/4 cups white sugar 4 Large eggs 2 1/2 cups ripe bananas (about 7-8) 3/4 cup water 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour 1 teaspoon baking powder 2 teaspoons baking soda 1 1/2 teaspoons salt 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (I round up.) 1 teaspoon ground cloves (I round up.) 3/4-1 cup chopped pecans optional: 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract & 1 teaspoon Almond Extract (If added, reduce water by 2 teaspoons)DirectionsPreheat oven to 350 degrees F (177 degrees C). Grease insides of 8 (1 pint) straight sided, wide mouth canning jars. In a large bowl, cream butter or shortening and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time, bananas, and water. In a separate bowl, stir or sift together flour, baking powder, soda, salt, cinnamon, and cloves. Add to banana mixture. Stir in nuts.Pour mixture into greased jars, filling 1/2 full of batter. Do not put lids on jars for baking. Wipe off rims of jars with a clean wet cloth. Place jars an inch or more apart on a baking sheet. (Place a shallow pan with a cup of water in it in the bottom of oven to evaporate during the baking.)Bake at 350 degrees F (177 degrees C) for 35-45 minutes. Meanwhile, sterilize the lids and rings in boiling water.As soon as bread is done, remove from oven one at a time, wipe rims of jars and put on lid and ring. Jars will seal as they cool. Wait until they are fully sealed and completely cool before removing ring and placing a "shepherds cap"-type cloth on for optional decoration. Label jars with the contents, date, and instructions like: "Keep refrigerated. Expires 4 months from date."The FDA does NOT recommend "canning" bread because quick breads contain a high amount of moisture and low acidity levels which can cause the growth of a bacteria called Clostridium botulinum, which is commonly known as botulism. NO known cases of botulism have been connected to home canned breads.
