The Battle of Zhuolu was the second battle in the history of China as recorded in the Records of the Grand Historian, fought between the Yanhuang tribes led by the legendary Yellow Emperor and the Jiuli tribes led by Chiyou. The battle was fought in Zhuolu, near the present-day border of Hebei and Shanxi.
The victory for the Yellow Emperor here is often credited as history, although almost everything from that time period is considered legendary. Traditional Chinese historiography places the battle in the 26th century BC, although the Xia–Shang–Zhou Chronology Project has suggested the traditional dates to be at least some two centuries too early for the most remote recorded periods.

We start off where our last megadocumentary left off, with the Ming is nearing its end. While meeting with the Jesuits brought cultural exchange, the Ming soon faced economic, social, and military problems as the Jurchen coalesced into a mighty power in Manchuria, and elevated themselves as a new dynasty, the Qing. We next go over the influential early Qing rulers, Kangxi, Yongzheng, and Qianlong, and the annexation of Taiwan from Ming loyalists. We then go through the 4 Dzungar-Qing Wars, which resulted in the Qing Empire seizing Mongolia, Tibet, and Xinjiang, to become one of the largest empires in history. After the White Lotus Rebellion, we then deal with culture and literature during the Late Ming and Early Qing and the empires early relations with Western powers, setting up the period of conflict which will come next series.
We then travel to Japan, which remained in the Sengoku Period. The go through the journey of Oda Nobunaga, and Toyotomi Hideyoshi, who ended the Sengoku and united Japan, and Tokugawa Ieyasu, who eventually set up the Tokogawa Shogunate, marking the beginning of the Edo Period, the most prosperous and long lasting in Feudal Japan. We take a look at literature and art styles as well in the new urbanized Japanese cities, all centered around Ukiyo, or the 'floating world'. We also touch on their interactions with Europeans, Christianity, and their Sakoku policy.
Joseon Korea is next, as we focus on the Imjin War and the defense of Admiral Yi Sun-Sin and his famous turtle ships, and invasions by the Jurchen and Manchu.
In Vietnam, we pick up where we left off, and go through the rise of the Le Dynasty, the Mac Dynasty, the Trinh and Nguyen Lords, and finally the Tay Son Rebellion which leads us into the 1800s.
This is the 4th episode of our Early Modern series, which goes over the history of the world from roughly 1500 to 1800. The last episode dealt with the so-called Gunpowder Empires, the Ottomans, Safavid Iran, and Mughal India.

#worldhistory #modernhistory #historyfacts #eastasia #history #historical #documentary #chinesehistory #japanhistoryOttoman Empire, Safavid Iran, and Mughal India: The Gunpowder Empires - A Complete OverviewMade In History2023-12-06 | This Gunpowder Empires documentary covers the Ottoman Empire, Safavid Iran, and the Mughal Empire until around 1800. These were arguably the most powerful empires in Asia during the Early Modern, and helped shape the character of the Middle East, Persia, and the Indian subcontinent. Though these have traditionally been called the Gunpowder Empires, other empires utilized gunpowder, and it wasn't always relied upon, especially for the Safavids.
We will first go over the Ottoman Empire in 4 phases, starting with its founding and initial Balkan expansions and capture of Constantinople. Then we shift into its Golden Age, with the expansion into the Middle East, and further Balkan expansion under Suleiman the Magnificent. There is then a period of transformation and a shift towards governance and bureaucracy, before a period of decentralization in the 1700s.
We then travel to Persia, and the founding of the Safavid Dynasty, which grew to control much of Iran. We go through their conflicts with the Uzbeks and Ottomans, and their peak under Abbas the Great, before their decline to the Afghans, and the establishment of the Afsharids under Nader Shah. We take a short look at the Zand dynasty which came to power afterwards, and the foundation of the first Afghan state.
From there, its a short jump to India and the establishment of the Mughal Empire. We will go over how under Babur, they took power from the declining Delhi Sultanate, and became a dominant power under Akbar the Great. After covering the controversial reign of Aurangzeb, we go over the many wars that decentralized the subcontinent, and the rise of the British East India Company, which would become the major power in the region by the end of our time period.
As always, there will also be lots about their arts, culture, and architecture, like the Tulip Period and stunning mosques of the Ottomans, the beautiful Safavid capital of Isfahan, and the building of the Taj Mahal and great forts at Agra and Delhi.

#worldhistory #medieval #medievalhistoryThe Mess That Is Early Modern Europe (1500 - 1700s) Explained: A Complete OverviewMade In History2023-10-05 | Early Modern Europe delves into an often overlooked period of European history, the time between the end of the Middle Ages and the French Revolution.
We will go over the significant events of this period, starting with social life, the invention of the printing press, and the spread of the Renaissance out of Italy and the forms it took across the Alps. We then delve into how this led to the Reformation, first in Germany with Luther, and then in Switzerland with Zwingli and Calvin. We visit Tudor England under Henry VIII, Queen Elizabeth I and the English Reformation. The Catholic Church responds with the Counter Reformation and stunning Baroque Art styles emerge.
The Reformation leads into a series of Wars of Religion from the mid 1500s to mid 1600s. We go over the wars in France, the Spanish wars against the Dutch, the Wars of the Three Kingdoms in the British Isles, and finally the devastating Thirty Years War. There are also parts about social and economic change, focusing on the rise of mercantilism and the Witch Hunts.
This leads into the Age of Absolutism, marked by the reign of Louis XIV in France in the late 1600s. We go over 3 of his wars, with a focus on the War of Spanish Succession.
We end with a brief look at the new European powers of the 1700s, the Prussians, Austrians, and Russians.
It is the 2nd episode of our Early Modern series, which goes over the history of the world from roughly 1500 to 1800. The 1st episode dealt with the Age of Discovery.

#worldhistory #modernhistory #historyfacts #baroque #history #historical #documentaryThe Age of Discovery: A Complete OverviewMade In History2023-08-18 | The Age of Discovery is a journey through the era of European exploration during the Early Modern period, from around 1500 to 1800. It is divided into 5 main parts. The first is the continuation of the spread of Islam in Southeast Asia and Africa. We then take a look at the early expeditions of the Portuguese, including Vasco da Gama in India, further voyages to Malacca and the Spice Islands, and the voyages of the Spanish, under Christopher Columbus. Afterwards, we go over the beginnings of colonization in each region, starting with the Americas and the end of the Aztec and Inca Empires, and the establishment of the Spanish, Portuguese, English, French, and Dutch colonies, as well as the pirates of the Caribbean in the Golden Age of Piracy. We then shift focus to Africa, and how the Songhai, Swahili Coast, Mutapa, and coastal African kingdoms were affected by the arrival of the Portuguese, and what would become the Atlantic Slave Trade. Finally, we turn to Southeast Asia, and the Islamic regions of the Malay peninsula and archipelago, and the mainly Buddhist mainland.
There are many theories about the Age of Discovery that are still up in the air.

This site is the location of the earliest known evidence for domestication of any crop on the continent, Cucurbita pepo, as well as the earliest known domestication of maize.
Macrofossil evidence for both crops is present in the cave. However, in the case of maize, pollen studies and geographical distribution of modern maize suggests that maize was domesticated in another region of Mexico.

Based on radiocarbon dating, it was a village from roughly 5700 to 2800 BCE. This corresponds to the late Preceramic IV and Preceramic V periods. It is one of the earliest villages in the Americas that archaeologists have been able to date stratigraphically. It is on the north edge of the Chilca River valley, in hills separating the main valley from a dry canyon called Quebrada de los Perdidos. The inhabitants would have been "within easy walking distance" from both the Chilca River itself (7-8 km south) and the Pacific coast, 3-4 km west. The site is bounded by coastal hills on the north and south. Paloma lies on the edge of the lomas - areas where moisture from fog allows plants to grow in an otherwise arid region. However, how the ancient settlement got access to fresh water is not clear. There are several possibilities: first, the inhabitants could have dug wells down to the water table. Second, a spring located about five minutes' walk east of the village may have provided water (it is possibly intermittent and was recorded by archaeologists in June 1976 but was not afterward). Finally, sand-lined pits may have been used to trap moisture from fog.

The site covers more than 3 acres and extends 30 feet down into the alluvial deposits of the Illinois River valley. Over the course of its excavation between 1969 and 1978, Koster produced deeply buried evidence of ancient human occupation from the early Archaic period (BC 7500) to the Mississippian period (AD 1000). The soil strata contains a total of 25 distinct occupations each separated by additional layers of soil, making the site exceptionally well-preserved.

The fact that this entire period is given the same name by archaeologists should not be taken to mean that there was not considerable regional and temporal diversity; the time between the earliest Jōmon pottery and that of the more well-known Middle Jōmon period is about twice as long as the span separating the building of the Great Pyramid of Giza from the 21st century.
Dating of the Jōmon sub-phases is based primarily upon ceramic typology, and to a lesser extent radiocarbon dating.
Recent findings have refined the final phase of the Jōmon period to 300 BCE. The Yayoi period started between 500 and 300 BCE according to radio-carbon evidence, while Yayoi styled pottery was found in a Jōmon site of northern Kyushu already in 800 BCE..

The last part is about the Southeast Asian empires and India's influence. It is meant to be an overview.
It begins with the Kushan Empire and the spread of Buddhism. It goes through the rulers of the Gupta Empire and its fall. The Muslim invasions would begin in the early Medieval, culminating in the Delhi Sultanate. The cultural part of the video goes into the mixing of the Indian and Islamic culture, and the daily life, art, and architecture of the Middle Kingdoms period. The video ends with an overview of the major Southeast Asian empires, like the Khmer, Pagan, Ayutthaya, and Srivijaya, along with some of their art and architecture as well.
Welcome to The Medieval World series! This series is meant to summarize broad topics in history and balances political history and events, with social/daily life, and culture. If you've watched our History of the World documentary, this series is a perfect next step. The videos are standalone, but presented in a chronological fashion. The series will be divided into 8 videos about the Medieval Period, which we call Phase 2. Once these 8 videos are completed, we will move onto Phase 3, but this project will be considered completed, and compiled into ONE MEGA-DOCUMENTARY containing all 8 parts.
