Treasure Chest,. but alas..no treasure SunsetBay Bonnie 2024-02-07 | a million years ago in school, i made a small treasure chest in wood shop, yes..i took woodshop..its a long story..and here..many, many...ok, 47 years later, im still making them. All different sizes. This one is for my daughternlaw, an i hope to make one for each grand kid. Its a fairly easy project and everyone loves them. The only problem for me is having a hard time measuring and cutting the wood as my eyes have been giving me a hard time, as you can see by the off center name in the 'almost middle' of the chest..lol. If you like to do wood crafts, you should try this, they make great heirlooms too.

Wood Lathe an new kitty SunsetBay Bonnie 2023-09-09 | I have stashes of wood around my garage to be turned into cups, bowls and someday if i'm good enough: containers with lids. My friend who used to cut down trees gave me my first pieces of black walnut and maple. A doctor at work; gave me more black walnut and spalted maple , already cut into squares or circles. I still have quite a few circles of maple, cherry and even some mahogany that i got when i bought that big harbor freight lathe several years ago. The idea is to get all of them gathered into one place when i start getting organized. Also, i have a new fur baby addition to my little family: her name is monkey. I looked for a long time to find a kitten that looked like Monchichi did when she was a kitten and i found Monkey. People tell me that Monchichi looks like a ragdoll cat, and i have seen pics that do resemble her. Both mothers were solid black cats and the father of Monchichi, looks just like her. The new kittys father is unseen as the mother is a barn cat and im guessing the father looks like Monchichi as little Monkey looks just like Monchichi did 6 yrs ago. My Tattoos SunsetBay Bonnie 2023-07-28 | I've been wanting to cover up my old 'home made' tattoos for quite some time and i have finally gotten around to it. i forgot to show the one i did on myself with the homemade tattoo gun so i added it as the thumbnail, its the blue rose over the red heart with the banners. We called those home made tattoo guns; jailhouse tattoo guns. In fact i think the guy i bought mine from , told me he had learned how to make them when he was in jail.
lathe vid SunsetBay Bonnie 2023-06-25 | There is so much to learn about the lathe, the wood, the tools. I was trying to sharpen my tools on belt sander and realized i wasnt that good at it. Doc at work sharpened all my gouges and wow , what a difference. With his advice, i picked out an purchased a jig, and got a grinder to learn to sharpen my own tools. Attaching the grinder to a table and setting up the jig was a little trickier than it looks. My favorite wood so far is black walnut and i am very lucky to work with a Dr. who has given me; not only black walnut but a couple large spalted maple pieces. In the meantime, i love watching other ppl on the tubes and what they are making. Like i said in this video, i am not a pro, not giving advice. I make lots of mistakes on this journey, but im a hobbyist, a craftsperson and just showing what i make along the way.
Saga of the unknown huge lump in my neck.. SunsetBay Bonnie 2023-06-15 | Had Dr. appt to discuss the growing lump in my neck. Had an xray and was referred to ENT. Had biopsy attempt at ENT's, Had a Cath Scan and back to ENT. MRA ordered, back to ENT. Referred to Neurologist. He says surgery is needed and ordered Angiogram to put camera in my artery to see the lump better. Another procedure ordered to plug up the veins with 'glue' and 'coils'. In an attempt to ensure less bleeding during surgery. Surgery completed, lump removed and half my parotid gland due to tumor growing on it. Follow up with ENT, says all went well and im good to go. Follow up with Neurologist, i called an said i would not be there and will never be a patient of his again. Did i say 'SHORT" videos..this is 21 min. long...ugh..i'll try to make next one shorter.
omg, now hes climbing Shepard hook to get to the oriole feeder! SunsetBay Bonnie 2023-05-24 | I continue to be plagued by racoons. Now they are climbing up the shepards hook to pull down the oriole feeder. Wracking my brain trying to figure out what to do about them. Friends say; get a have a heart trap an trap them, AND do what with them....these things are huge! Catching them in a cage and driving somewhere with them in my car to relocate them somewhere else isnt something i feel comfortable with, imagine the dam thing getting loose in my car..yikes!
Back yard pests! Caught on camera: A BEE SWARM SunsetBay Bonnie 2022-06-02 | My sons hives were crushed last year when neighbors tree fell on them, my son had to crawl in amongst the downed branches trying to find a queen to put in a borrowed hive; in an attempt to save some bees. However, when he opened the hive after winter; he found no bees. He was going to get rid of the remaining hive, as he was so depressed over the bees being gone. I told him, leave the hive there! You dont know what will happen. So he left the hive, and when i was there for a picnic the other day; i suddenly heard a loud buzzing noise and looked up and air around us and above us was filled with bees! My son yells out: Its a swarm! Theyre coming with the queen! And in about half an hour, all the bees entered the hive! Awesome!
A new table for the mini lathe SunsetBay Bonnie 2022-03-22 | I had previously been using a small wooden stool with a couple boards screwed onto the seat. It was wobbly and inadequate to say the least. I finally dragged myself to home depot and got some 2x4's to make a proper table. It's nothing fancy but it looks much better. I wanted to make a pink glitter stripe on the handles but for some reason, once i mixed the glitter n the glue, it didnt sparkle anymore. Oh well, try try again. So BUSY SunsetBay Bonnie 2022-01-30 | Finished bowl from last video. Then got busy with several other projects; a shelf to put my bowls on. Trying to get more organized with the lathe supplys i added shelves to an old stand i had. After getting buried with a couple feet of snow; i finally fixed my snow blower: the culprit? A broken primer bulb. I'm perfecting my ferro rod handle making. I found flood fish after the early January flood, and before they got buried under all this snow. A quickie project; making tabs to put on my boots so i can pull them on. And a shelf for my grand daughter to put shoes on. Pull up a chair, grab some coffee and get ready for over 20 minutes of old broad making stuff, who knows; maybe i'll inspire you to 'make stuff' too!
Yet Another Flood, and i continue with my craft projects SunsetBay Bonnie 2022-01-01 | I continue to work on making bowls on the lathe, experimenting with different speeds, different tools. I also have been busy making crocheted hats for everyone, the grandkids, ppl at work, my nieces..i've just made 14 so far and got another six to go. Work has been so horrendous, we could never have imagined how crazy things have gotten. I have lost count of how many covid positive ppl i've worked with. Most recently , one of my grand children has contacted covid. Its not only the hundreds of covid patients, its hospitals that have no empty beds, including the one i work at. I come home from work exhausted and spend whole days off trying to sleep and rest my sore old body. I truly hope the new year is better..hope lives in my heart. I wish you all a wonderful new year, i wish you health happiness and the peace of God.
Honey Locust handles, bowls, Pizza pan craft ,project for a friend SunsetBay Bonnie 2021-11-22 | I finally made a ferro rod an striker with honey locust for the handles. I also tried to use some cherry wood i had in my fire wood pile, but it was too punky. My wood cutter friend says he has more wood: cherry , oak , maple, black walnut that he will bring me later. He brought me a chunk of black walnut about 24 inches long by roughly 5" in diameter, same with the chunk of maple. I spent quite a bit of time, sawing off a 3" slice as the only saw i could cut it with is a limb saw i bought a few yrs ago at harbor freight. My band saw wont accommodate the 5" diameter. Its hard to do these simple tasks as im certain my rt shoulder has a torn rotator cuff. Even simple things like sawing the wood is painful and takes forever. I cut a slice of the walnut, managed to 'round' it with the band saw, but today when i checked on it, it has multiple splits in it. Im still gonna try to turn it though, when i have more days off.The pizza pan is almost done, i have to paint the edge and the back black, put a polyurethane finish on it, an drill a hole in the top to hang it.
Blackberry jelly *3rd bowl* pumpkin carving SunsetBay Bonnie 2021-10-15 | I finally pulled out my frozen blackberries to make some jelly. I smashed the berries and squeezed thru cheesecloth to remove the seeds. The only ingredients are berries, a little lemon juice and sugar. So good! I also made a third bowl. This one really took a lot of time as the wood had small flaws in it that i had to work to get out with out breaking the bowl. I admit it began to get a bit stressful working on bowls so i'm taking a break and going to make some handles. As usual, we went to the amish pumpkin patch and got a ton of pumpkins. The pumpkins in the field are $2.25 each and then they had a variety of other pumpkins, various sizes and prices. The really huge ones were $15 each, it took two grandkids to carry to my sons van, and he also got another smaller one, but it had a stem the width of my arm! I will re=attempt them at some later date. I have spent the last 3 weeks making gnomes, i figured a couple ppl would want one, but they took off and im quite surprised at how many ppl want one. I still wanna make 8 sitting bears, on my second one now. Good weather came and i have outside things to do and its very slow going. It seems that things i used to be able to do in an hour, now take 3. Not to mention all the soreness later. Getting older isn't fun. But hey, it happens.

This year when i searched , i only found one farm selling them, and they only had these long ones. i prefer the shorter, squattier looking ones, but i took what i could get. I paid $4.00 each for these. When fresh, they weigh several pounds. Then you let them sit and dry during the winter and clean off any mold and mildew that grows on them. Come spring, cut the hole in them, i did mine 1 1/4 dia. you remove all the dryed stuff inside. Paint, coat with polyurethane to protect from the weather and find a place to hang them. As with any birdhouse, high enough to prevent cats from getting to them.
