The trouble with this show Laser is that the red Laser diodes have failed and need replacing. The other trouble is that these Lasers tend to come with poor alignment and need to be re-aligned. I discuss that as well as other pros and cons of this brand. Needless to say there are better brands. These lasers are used as a replacement for many applications due to their size and performance characteristics. These lasers are Diode Pumped Solid State (DPSS) and emits 488nm laser light at around 60mw when functional. inside of the laser is a 14 pin pump laser diode that produced 976nm, this is fed through a fiber optic strand and gets converted into 488nm though the process of second harmonic generation. This device is more or less a special prism that can shift the angle of light going through it using several underlying physics. Inside a crystal pumped with sound waves in the Mhz range using the piezoelectric effect. This causes wave in the crystal which compress and expand regions in the crystal as the sound travels through. There is a difference in refraction because the electrons behave differently and will cause optical interference to happen in the crystal which diffracts the light and it leaves the crystal at a different angle. This is a complicated subject and there are many kinds of acousto-optic modulators (AOM). They are used for modulating a laser beam's intensity, for mixing colors, and for q-switching and so on.

Today we tear down the Formlabs Form 1/1+ which is a 3D printer that uses a 100mw 405nm Laser and 2 beam steering galvanometers ( galvos ). This was sent to me by a few members of the group Photonsters so that I could take it apart and evaluate it for servicing/repair and modification advice along with some insight on how to make a decent DIY SLA printer using galvos. All in all it's a simple machine mechanically and can be fixed by the end user with little trouble. I'll be going over the hardware, explaining how the galvos work and doing tests to figure out how the DAC section works along with how to add in and use a non OEM laser. The original video was on the ability to erase the glow from phosphorescent materials with an IR and Red laser pointer. In the previous video I was a bit confused at why this happened. There was an article sent via comments and it's liked below for your reading pleasures. However I was not completely satisfied at it's explanation. Because of that I started experimenting with different wavelengths of Lasers and the temperatures of my materials and found a wide array of behavioral differences. The original mechanism I saw was probably due to the heat generated by the laser in the material causing the glow to release quicker thus leaving a darker area after exposure. These are all experiments you can also perform as well. I found it quite interesting to see these effects myself. A much more detailed video on both florescence and phosphorescence will be done in the future with many more experiments and explanations in the science behind the mechanisms. NOTE that using an AC power adapter without proper isolation from the AC in may result in shock!!! I also go over some of the pros and cons in using a mosfet so you know when to use them and how to best use them in selected projects like a light or other simple circuit. I'll be using N-channel in this video though you can also use P-channel on the positive side of your circuit. Stating that there are only 2 types of mosfets is a bit of an over simplification but mostly correct in practice. Almost any mosfet will work though it's not recommended to use this in a high voltage circuit or to use high voltage mosfets due to touching parts of the power to activate the switch and higher voltage mosfets don't work as well for touch switches. At .85 inches it's platter is smaller than the more commonly known CF style Microdrive with a 1 inch platter inside. These where only made for internal storage with 2 connection types. One being a MMC+ like connector and the other as a 14 pin ZIF. I have also included a bit of useful information as well for others who may have one and are trying to get it to run however I can't get mine to work at this point. I am not an expert in this topic so maybe some one else can pitch in a few words of advice as well.

The 1.8 inch cubed INNOIO Smart beam is tiny, and full of equally tiny parts. It's not the easiest projector to take apart but once it was in bits I was able to get some good footage of parts while running.
