Treating a UTI at home without the guidance of a medical professional is risky. While you may have had UTIs before and know what’s going on, home remedies like cranberry juice and other fluids aren’t likely to take care of the issue. It may be routine, but an infection in your urinary tract needs to be taken seriously.

My name is Ashley Trautwein. I'm a nurse practitioner at Norton Cancer Institute. When you come see me for the first time newly diagnosed with cancer, me as your provider, I want us to establish a trusting relationship as we navigate your new diagnosis together and work together to find the best treatment possible to allow a quality of life for you. And also, I'm going to be there to support not only you, but your family as well. I know that a new cancer diagnosis, it's very scary and it's not a death sentence anymore. And as your provider, I promise to find the best treatment there is and work together, again, to provide the best quality of life.
I'm from Louisville Kentucky and I received my family nurse practitioner degree from Northern Kentucky University. I graduated in 2021. For fun, I love to spend time with my husband and my children. We like to travel to different places and any new city that we go to, we like to find a zoo because my children are obsessed with animals. So any new city we go to, we have to find a zoo and visit that place.
I am Elizabeth Fahey. I'm a physician assistant with Norton. I've been here for six years and worked with the hospitalist group for that time, and now I've transitioned into the Norton Arm and Hand Institute. I was really looking for something in the surgical subspecialty where I can still round in the hospital and see patients there and then follow up with patients in the clinic as well. The group sees everything from pediatric congenital diseases, sports injuries, all the way up to our elderly patients who might have any number of diseases or fall and break a wrist. The common issues that people have post-operatively are post-op stiffness and then pain. In the arm and hand group, it seems like our physicians want to get people moving as fast as they can. The quicker you move and work out that stiffness when we're able to safely, it really seems to help with the pain post-operatively.
We like to tell people it's going to get better, it's going to take a little bit of work, but you can do it, it'll get better before you know it. A little bit of pain in the short term really gets that results in the long term. My family moved to Shelby County when I was 10, so I grew up there, and then I went to Purdue University for undergrad, and then I went to University of Kentucky for physician assistant studies. For fun, our family likes to spend a lot of time outdoors, where we've got two little girls at home, so we're working on raising them, and we read a lot of books. We like to travel, but it's a little bit harder now that they're here and coming with us everywhere.
providers.nortonhealthcare.com/provider/Gregory+A+Hart/2932837
Hi, I'm Greg Hart. I'm a nurse practitioner in the emergency department and I love my job because I like to take care of people.
My grandmother was an ER nurse and I have been in emergency medicine for about 15 years now, and I just really wanted to advance my career and have a little more autonomy. So I went back to school for a nurse practitioner. Did a rotation in the ER at a level one trauma center, and that kind of sealed the deal. High energy and everything's different every day, and it's a lot of fun.
I like to treat people the way that I would want myself to be treated or my family members to be treated. These people are going through a trauma at that time, so if I can do anything to help ease their mind, I'd like to do so. That way it makes their experience a lot easier and hopefully better.
I am from Cincinnati, Ohio. I went to Wright State in Dayton, Ohio for my undergrad, and I went to Bellarmine University for my grad school. I moved here because my wife graduated from Bellarmine and she is also a nurse. I take care of three wonderful children and we like to fly kites, we play Frisbee. So I coach soccer for my daughter. We like to hike and camp.
Hello, I'm Ishan Parikh. I'm an internal medicine trained physician who's practicing as a hospitalist. I take care of basically all your needs once you're admitted to the hospital. That includes working you up primarily trying to figure out what's causing your illness and figuring out how we can come up with a treatment plan to take care of your illness.
Once you're evaluated in the ER and it's determined that you need to be admitted to the hospital, the inpatient side would serve you better. What I'm going to do is evaluate you and see what other tests that need to be done and basically help you restart your home medicines, make sure you're getting the right medicines while you're in the hospital, make sure you're getting the right treatments while you're in the hospital, talking to the other doctors who are going to be helping out in your care as well. I'm the person they go to, to be able to get you what you need. And then towards the end of your hospital stay, I'll be trying to figure out how to best take care of you. Do you need to go home? Is there a rehab stay that we need to do to get you stronger? That's all my job.
You don't know what's going on. You need some help. You don't know who to call. Well, I'm your guy. Any questions you may have about your medical care, you come and talk to me. The nurses do their job and get in contact with us, and I'll do my job in making sure you have the information you need.
I'm originally from Tennessee, not too far away, about three hours away, right outside Nashville. Louisville was where I ended up doing my medical training for internal medicine. And then, you know what? It's pretty nice here, so we ended up just staying.
For fun, I like to play tennis when the weather's good outside at least. And then we exercise, travel, go outdoors. Louisville has a lot to offer in those aspects as well.

Norton Infectious Diseases Specialist Downtown

My name is Anupama Raghuram and I am an infectious disease physician with Norton Healthcare. I have a dual role here. One is as the Chief Scientific Officer for Norton Infectious Disease Institute, and the other is as an outpatient infectious disease physician with the Infectious Disease Clinic. And my practice focuses on HIV treatment and prevention. I'm originally from Brazil, where I completed medical school before moving to the United States to pursue an internal medicine residency, which I completed at Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New York, followed by Infectious Disease Fellowship, which I completed at the University of Rochester in Rochester, New York. I chose the specialty of infectious diseases because of the variety of conditions and pathogens and diseases and global impact that the field has. So all that makes it very intellectually challenging and fulfilling. But besides that, I also enjoy establishing long-term relationships with patients to provide ongoing support and care.
Within the field of infectious diseases, the area of HIV treatment and prevention really fascinates me, and that's because of the tremendous progress we've made in that field. We went from a life-threatening disease to one that today can be prevented and managed with very simple medication regimens, and that allows those who are impacted to have full and healthy lives. And all this progress really also highlights the power of research to generate that new knowledge that we need to develop better medications and impact better quality of life for our patients. As far as my previous professional experience, I was infectious disease faculty at University of Louisville for many years, and now I am a volunteer teaching faculty there. My other previous experience includes being an internist and also medical director in the areas of HIV and COVID-19. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family. That's my husband, my three children, three cats and a dog.
I like to stay active, so I like to do spinning classes. I do indoor rowing and I like to take long walks with my dog. Besides that, I love to read. I like to play the piano, and I'm a quilter.

Hi, I'm Jee Shim. I'm a Korean American and I was born in Ohio, lived in Korea from age six to 16. I moved to Michigan, went to the University of Michigan for undergraduate and medical school, did residency in New York and practiced in New York for about six years before moving to Louisville Kentucky. I decided to become an OB-GYN after seeing a baby being born for the first time in medical school, I fell in love and never looked back.
So the best and the most important part of my job is the relationship I get to build with my patients. When you come see me, I want to get to know you. I want you to get to know me, and whatever time we have, we'll build our trust and rapport with each other. And as much as I can help you, I also learn a lot from my patients. I look forward to meeting you and look forward to having the privilege of taking care of you.
For fun, I have a new baby girl, so I like to spend time with her and my family. I like to travel as much as I can. Doesn't happen as often as I can, but I like to travel. I like to bake. And I'm not going to lie, I do also like to binge-watch nice TV shows, good TV shows. And I also like to sleep.
providers.nortonhealthcare.com/provider/John+T+Garner/2932847
I'm John Timothy Garner, M.D. I'm a family board certified family medicine physician. Rather than specializing in one area, such as a cardiologist, I enjoy taking care of somebody with common cold, or somebody with diabetes, somebody of hypertension. That's all enjoyable to me and it's also get to know the whole family. So coming to a primary doctor, you can see the newborn as they grow up through adolescence, through their teenage years, into their adulthood. You take care of the grandparents and the parents as well through all age groups. So you get to know the whole family and get that connection to the family that way. That's quite enjoyable to me.
Getting to know the patient will help relax them and calm them down, and it'll be a much more pleasant visit for the patient and for you, because you enjoy listening to them and people just want to be listened to a lot of times by doctors, a lot of doctors can rush in and know they have 10 other patients waiting, but to me, while you're with the doctor, that's your time. So I'll spend as much time with you as it takes for that visit. Some visits are quick, some visits aren't as quick, because you require more stuff to be checked, or you just have more concerns and we need to talk about them.
I graduated from West Virginia University School of Medicine, did my residency program at the West Virginia Department of Family Medicine. From there I went to Ashland Kentucky. I spent 20 years in Ashland Kentucky as a primary care doctor, ran my own practice for most of that 20 years. Once my last child graduated from high school, we decided we wanted to move to the beach. So we lived in Wilmington, North Carolina for the last seven, and then grandkids started. Grandkids is what brought us back to Louisville.
I enjoy reading, enjoy vacationing. Wife and I have been to a lot the of different locations. We have the grandkids here, and so we visit the grandkids as much as possible, and I enjoy medicine.
providers.nortonhealthcare.com/provider/Kathryn+Karem/2933181
Hello, my name's Kathryn Karem. I'm a nurse practitioner at the Norton Prompt Cares, and the reason I'm a nurse practitioner is because I have a history of ER and ICU nursing, and I like the fast-paced environment that the Prompt Cares provide us and the variety that they bring.
So when the patient is having a high stress situation, the best is to keep them calm by my presence and aura and my voice, alongside there's something that I like to reference as the art of nursing. By being present with them, comforting them, especially in high stress situations that's crucial, because you being human to human with them is going to calm them the best way possible.
I'm a military brat, however, I've been here since 2005 and I've grown up here and call Louisville my home. I went to Assumption High School, then onto Bellarmine University for my Bachelor's of Science and Nursing. While I was working on my undergrad, I was an EMT with Bellarmine and the Louisville EMS.
Then when I graduated, I went to Norton Children's for neonatal ICU, and while I got my degree at Bellarmine University for my master's in nurse practitioner, I then went to UK in neurosurgery where I specialized in pediatric and adult spinal problems. Specifically, I've dealt with VP shunts, I've dealt with neuro spinal modulation, which is also known as a spinal cord stimulator, and an intrathecal pain and back lifting pump for a spinal cord injury in our chronic pain patients.
I really enjoy reading and I really enjoy hiking, depending on my mood, and if I'm more of an active mood, I really enjoy using the Norton Walking Club at the Louisville Zoo before they open. If I'm more of a relaxed mood, I really enjoy reading, specifically young adult [inaudible 00:01:47]
providers.nortonhealthcare.com/provider/Amy+E+Seldon/1173957
Hi, my name is Amy. I'm an emergency medicine physician assistant. I like to be in the emergency room because you see a whole breadth of patients and a whole breadth of care and help people on a bad day to feel better.
When patients are coming to the emergency room, I realize that that is not the place that they would like to be. I hope that I can provide them with comfort while they're there, provide them reassurance and get them the care that they need with empathy.
I grew up in Louisville Kentucky. I graduated from Sullivan University's physician assistant program. From there, I worked in general surgery and gynecologic oncology. I'm excited to be in the emergency room to help patients on a bad day, and to see a whole plethora of diagnoses and to get people in the right place.
In my free time, my husband and I like to take our three young kids around town. We like to go to new parks, go to sporting events. We're huge Louisville Cardinal fans. We also like to travel. We try to go to Mexico at least once a year.
Hi, my name is Lori Wilson and I am a nurse practitioner, and I became a nurse practitioner because I have had so many wonderful doctors and providers that have given me amazing care over the years, and I just wanted to be able to help people, like people helped me. I love being in the urgent care because it really lets me deal with acute problems, and a lot of times people come in really stressed or with a sick child, and so I just want to give them comfort from the time they enter the door. Hopefully get them feeling better by the time they leave, just so that they have a great experience.
For those that come in really nervous and anxious about the urgent care, I just want you to know that we are there to take care of you. We expect those kinds of crazy moments, and I just love getting to see all of the different things that can happen and being able to treat you. We use humor. We use comfort. We use anything that we can do to calm you down, and we always have suckers, so you always get something when you leave.
So before this, I was a labor and delivery nurse for about five years, which believe it or not, has a lot of excitement. It's one of the most amazing places to work, but I was ready for a change and so I decided to do something else that was something that could be quick on my feet. And so I went to the urgent care. I am originally from Louisville Kentucky, and I went to the University of Kentucky and got a bachelor's degree in dietetics. And then I went and did a one-year nursing program at Bellarmine University in Louisville, and that's where I completed my degree to become a nurse practitioner. I just love to spend time with my friends and family. You can always find me outside when it's warm with a book or just relaxing, and now I'm growing a new baby, so that's been taking up a lot of my time.

Congenital syphilis is when your baby is born infected with syphilis (a sexually transmitted infection, also called STD). The only way your baby can get congenital syphilis is if you have syphilis and pass it to your infant, usually during pregnancy or during vaginal birth if a baby has contact with a syphilis sore.
Remember, knowledge empowers us to protect our little ones. Let’s spread awareness and ensure a healthier future for all. Congenital syphilis is completely preventable. Protect yourself and your baby by following safe sex practices and talking to your doctor about testing in your prenatal care checkups.
If you would like to get confidential STD testing, you may visit your prenatal care provider, primary care provider or any Norton Immediate Care or Norton Prompt Care location.

Deborah currently works with the Association of Nutrition & Foodservice Professionals as program development manager.
Eating healthfully doesn’t have to break the bank. Deborah shares practical tips on making nutritious choices within any budget. One of the key dietary approaches discussed is the Mediterranean Diet, known for its health benefits and extensive research backing. Deborah elaborates on its principles, addressing the common myth of needing to overhaul one’s pantry to adhere to a healthier diet. Instead, she advocates for incremental changes, suggesting adding healthier options one day at a time. I am Emmanuel Nadeeri. I'm a board-certified medical oncologist and hematologist. I believe it is a privilege to take care of a person with a cancer diagnosis since it is such a life-altering event for that person.
Medical oncology involves the care of various dancer diagnoses involving different parts of the body. I've been in practice for more than 15 years and have taken care of a variety of cancer patients as well as patients with blood disorders, including anemia, low blood counts, and leukemias.
Cancer treatment has evolved significantly over the past decade. There has been significant improvement and developments in personalized targeted therapies, as well as immunotherapy approaches, which have made a significant impact in the care of cancer. This has led to treatments with more efficacy and less side effects, and I've seen a significant change over the past decade.
Cancer is a life-altering diagnosis. I believe in a patient-centered approach providing state-of-the-art personalized care. I think it's important to empower my patients and families, providing knowledge about their diagnosis and treatment options, which will help them to make informed decisions and help them participate actively in their care and recovery. I also believe it is important to give hope to my patients. My patients can expect that I will listen to them and provide state-of-the-art care. I'm here to support you and help you achieve your goals.
I completed my medical education in India and did my residency and fellowship training in oncology and hematology in Washington, DC, our nation's capital. I've been in practice for more than 15 years in Kentucky. I live in Louisville and I enjoy the great city. For fun, I spend time with my family, watch movies, and play pickleball.
providers.nortonhealthcare.com/provider/Madelyn+R+Kelly/2819937
Hi, my name is Madelyn and I am a nurse practitioner with Norton Healthcare. I specialize in orthopedic sports medicine. I got into sports medicine because I grew up in a sports household. We were very active, always constantly on the go doing something. My husband currently is a football coach. My children, I have two little boys, they play football and baseball, and they're very active. We are constantly on the go. I grew up playing sports as well.
I think the most important part of helping our patients heal and get better and move on to the next part of their life is letting them know that this is not the end. That this is just one part of your life. This is one part in the next step on healing and moving on. So by being able to provide them that reassurance and to let them know that we can fix this bone, we can fix this muscle, the most important part for them is to be able to keep that positive head space. So enabling them to be able to stay in that positive mindset really is an important part of their healing process. I like to involve my patients in that. I like to be able to rope them in to keep them in that positive environment. Negativity only creates negative healing. Positivity can create positive healing. So being able to involve my patients in that care, that really is important when it comes to orthopedics.
I grew up in a military family, so we moved around quite a lot. I currently live in Elizabethtown, Kentucky. I'm a Hardin County native, although moving around, I would call Kentucky home.
We actually are a very active outdoor family, so we like to go camping. We go hiking. We do a lot of off-road riding. Actually, we have a side-by-side, so we do that with our kids. They are active on their dirt bikes. So we are constantly in a fast-paced, go go go outdoor family. So that is what we do in our free time.
providers.nortonhealthcare.com/provider/Rachel+C+Taylor/2819921
My name is Rachel Taylor. I'm a family nurse practitioner and I'm a nurse practitioner because I do like to help people and I think everybody deserves quality healthcare.
I like taking care of all ages. I don't have any special population that I prefer to take care of. I like taking care of everybody.
I like my patients to feel comfortable with me and I like them to know that they are safe with me and that they're going to get a treatment plan that involves them and we come to an outcome together.
I see anybody from birth to an elderly, and I like to meet people where they are and I like to take into account different developmental stages and I like to involve family as well. And so, I like to be all encompassing whenever I offer my care.
I'm originally from Owensboro, Kentucky, and I am in this area because my husband was military and is now retired. I obtained my family nurse practitioner certificate from Bellarmine University here in Louisville.
For fun, I like to travel and I like to be with my family and I like to travel with my family.
providers.nortonhealthcare.com/provider/Stacey+B+Kinteh/2819923
Hi, my name is Stacey. I'm a nurse practitioner. I got into this job because I had a lot of sick family, so watching them over the years and wanting to do more to help, I started to become a nurse, and eventually I became a nurse practitioner to further help people.
A nurse practitioner is able to do a lot of things, similar to what any doctor is able to do. We are able to assess you, write orders, make recommendations, give you medications, and things like that to help your everyday life. But in my opinion, a nurse practitioner takes the time and is able to better assess due to our nursing background.
When you first come see me, we're going to sit down and get to know each other a little bit, we're going to talk about what medications you're on, what medical history you have, any surgeries or anything like that, and we're going to look at your medical records, review your medical records, and we're going to talk about why you're there today. We're going to decide the best plan of care for you, and make sure you leave understanding what we're doing and why we're doing it.
For the last four and a half years, I've been a nurse in the emergency department and I've been a leader in the emergency department, so that is one reason that I decided to become a nurse practitioner in urgent care. I always enjoy that I never know what's going to come through the door, treating a vast array of diagnosis that come in during the day, and being able to always see different people at different times in their lives, and be able to treat them and make things better for them.
I'm originally from Hopkinsville, Kentucky. I moved here in 2008 to graduate from the University of Louisville, and my nurse practitioner is from Northern Kentucky University.
providers.nortonhealthcare.com/provider/Stacie+S+Cheney/2819946
Hi, I'm Stacie. I'm a nurse practitioner, and I wanted to be a nurse practitioner since I began nursing in 2008. As a nurse practitioner, my goal is to just provide the best quality of evidence-based care to all my patients.
I became a nurse practitioner so I can expand on my nursing to be able to provide a higher level of care to my patients.
As nurse practitioner on your first visit, or any visit, of course, I want to know not just what you're there for, what element you're there for, but also want to know some of your background, your family. I want to know what's going on in your day-to-day, because I want to treat the whole person, and not just what you're there for for that visit.
I am a very big advocate for educating, especially when it comes to healthcare, because a lot of people come in and you're literally told, "Oh, you have this. Here's a prescription. Go about your day," and they don't know what the expectations are going to be. What side effects your medications? What's going to be the process of the disease? And educating the people, that allows them to be an advocate for their own health, to ask questions, to know what to expect, instead of Googling it and having complete fear and anxiety. So as a nurse practitioner, it gives me the opportunity to spend more time with my patient and educate them on the process of just through the healthcare system, or the disease process, or the prescriptions they get, or something simple as how to get something over the counter.
I am born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky. I moved out to Oldham County in 2018. I have been in healthcare since 2002. I've been a nurse since 2008. I got my undergraduate degree from IUS, went and received a master's as well as a doctorate degree from the University of Louisville just recently in 2023.
I love being a mom. I love being a wife. Love to spend time with them. I love my four-legged friends. I have three dogs. Love spending time with them. I'm a complete crazy plant lady. I have over 150 plants in my home. I also love to read, but I absolutely have no specific genre. I love anything from US history, to memoirs, to your whodunit mystery novels.
