Funkl & Berg - Honoured to shout out to John Alchemy Funkl & Berg 2024-12-30 | This years Hardware Jams Secret Santa event matched me to no other than Spiridakis Yiannis aka John Alchemy. This is a great honor for me, because I have admired JA’s music, style and his online prescence for a while now! The Friday night sessions were club material and I have for sure danced to them. Could there be any better excuse to pump out some techno?? So here it is, cheers to you JA!As I am in between hardware jamming setups, I assembled a custom set of gear: - KORG Drumlogue (a recent birthday present!) providing all drums - KORG Electribe Sampler 2 sending out midi and synth pads - KORG Volca Keys (a recent Christmas present!) for some interesting leads - KORG Volca NuBass for some filtered basslines - KORG Volca Mix to glue it all together2024 has been an eventful year in the HWJ community. Although my participation was limited, I feel close to all of these wonderful people and I’m happy to attribute to this challenge. Funkl & Berg - Wish I could go harder Funkl & Berg 2024-10-14 | Hardware jammers all over the world went harder, better, faster, stronger this weekend. Man I wish I could go even harder! For the last 6 weeks I have been playing out dj sets every week for different audiences and every single time I found room for some harder dance styles. There’s a lot of popular dance in the 140-150 bpm range now and it combines nicely with mainstream Dutch hardstyle, 00s jumpstyle and even 90s happy hardcore hits. I’m not short on inspiration! I do feel however that jamming Sunday nights on headphones in an otherwise quiet kitchen leaves me wanting to go harder : )

Funkl & Berg - Driving Home From Christmas Funkl & Berg 2024-09-01 | Challenged by the Hardware Jams weekend prompt, I drove deep into my mind in search of car-drive-related inspirations. I prefer biking because I usually don’t enjoy driving cars, especially in the traffic situation around here. There are exceptions: roadtrips with family and driving home from dj-gigs. This jam sounds like what i like to hear on the radio driving back in the middle of the night alone in the car, alone on the road and awake on adrenaline. Luckily we have a radio station dedicated to serving this kind of music at that time of the weekend : ) Oh, and as I was coming up with a title on the fly while typing, I thought a shoutout to christmas might get attention ; )
Funkl & Berg - Jam From Scratch #BeMoreInky Funkl & Berg 2024-08-25 | 2 weeks ago I attended a wonderful summer festival. 2 out of 3 nights were honored by the presence of one of the greatest, kindest, coolest and craziest creator and inspirator, Lisa Beynon aka Inky Da Cat. The 3rd night, she was gone. #WhereIsInky, we joked. It turned out she was gone for good. In this 5 minute, 2 box jam from scratch I honor Inky in my very imperfect way, still hearing Inky’s supporting comments in my head. She would hate all minijacks. She would love a tale of kaoss. She wouldn’t mind. She would be there. She will be missed. Her legacy will live forever in het HWJ community. Goodbye Inky ❤️

It streamed during the festival’s Sunday night. Sharing all the jams and fun was an amazing experience once again, I never would have imagined online festivals could be so cool. The HWJ crew pulled it off!In this set I have used the following g hardware: - KORG Electribe 2 Synth - KORG Electribe 2 Sampler - KORG Volca NuBass - KORG Volca Kick - KORG NTS-1 (3x) - KORG Volca Mix (2x) - KORG Mini KaossPad 2 (2x) - KORG Kaoss DJThe mix was recorded straight into iPhone using the Roland GO:mixer. Also it was sent to my monitor speakers that I setup on the roof terrace for all neighbours to enjoy. This had a little unforeseen side-effect: on a number of occasions the iPhone warned of high sound levels. Since I liked the take I recorded, these blips have stayed in ; )

From the @HardwareJams weekend challenge I took inspiration to create some sort of structure. Although I usually jam by the motto ‘structure is for radio’, it is much fun to create some verse and chorus dynamics live. Also fun: I started out with lyrics and came up with the melodies based on those. Maybe some day I’ll record vocals ad do a remix. I love Psykhearts music, the grooving beats and engaging melodies. On top of that I found out about his fascination for November - my birth month - so I dedicated this jam to one of Daniel’s instagram posts: MARRAS. Added some Dutch November photos of my own to spice up the video and jammed away in this KORG landscape full of electribes, NTS-1s, Volcas and plenty of Kaoss.
