How to grow Dockrillias! Hello Plant Lovers! 2025-09-25 | A first time blooming of a new type of orchid for me means we need to hang out the flags and celebrate! I bought this Dockrillia hybrid in 2022 and admittedly it was small plant, but it has finally decided to bloom...and I LOVE it! It's a cross between two complex hybrids with no cultivar name (Dockrillia Kalon Byrne-Dimos 'Purple Wings' x Dockrillia Hof Grumpy 'Purple lip'). I had to move it while the buds were forming so I held my breath, but all is well and the flowers are gorgeous. So in this video we'll look at how I've grown it so far...and plans to add more to my collection...at some point!

I bought a flowering no ID hybrid hard cane Dendrobium in spring, guessing it was a warm grower with some Papua New Guinea species background and need to try and find out what it actually is and how to look after it! We'll also repot it as it's putting on a massive new growth and needs some attention. And then a seedling of a Papua New Guinea species I felt I couldn't live without! First Cymbidium bloom of the season; basic care refresh!! Hello Plant Lovers! 2025-04-24 | Well Plant Lovers, IMAGINE my surprise when I innocently turned this plant around and discovered TWO blooming flower spikes and a third developing! It's WAY earlier than usual for this plant; like most of my hybrid Cymbidiums this is a late winter early spring bloomer for me - that's late Aug - September in Australia. However this year, we've decided mid Autumn is the time to flower! Well heigh ho and here we go! A quick refresher on basic care as we take a look at this beautiful no ID hybrid pendent form Cymbidium. Many species Cymbidiums do bloom in Autumn, so perhaps this has some of those characteristics in its makeup and has decided THIS is the year! Who knows....I don't really care to be honest! How to grow Habenarias!! Hello Plant Lovers! 2025-03-27 | This week Plant Lovers, my Habenaria Galah is in full glorious bloom, and after a bit of a learning curve over the last two years, seems like a good time to share my learnings to date! Now this one is a primary hybrid between Habenaria rhodocheila and Habenaria janellehayneana which are both SE Asian tropical growers so this video is just about the care of this type. There are Habenarias from most parts of the world - except Europe! - so there's a vast array of conditions but I think I've figured out how to grow this type in my environment...after some failures!

Re-potting two of my Stanhopeas! Hello Plant Lovers! 2025-03-20 | This week Plant Lovers; three re-pottings....with out the funeral! Yes, I'm concerned my Stanhopeas might not have enough room to flower so I'm going to un-pot them - check for any thwarted flower spikes - and then re-pot them into baskets with bigger apertures which will hopefully encourage mad flowering next season! And then I bought some cuttings of Coelogyne fimbriata 'Alba' which I thought I'd pot up back into the vacated vanda basket! The wire baskets I found at a flea market - best buy ever! The chains I bought online and the loose coconut fibre you can get from any nursery or hardware store.
