When she had asked me what theme I would like her to make, without hesitation, I said CATS! We both love cats and the cat in this story reminds me of my super fluffy social boy… wondering around making friends!

This was a pretty project and I added extras like butterfly specimen cards from My Porch Prints and a small tri-fold booklet using folded file folder and decorated with Pink Monarch prints’ vintage floral cards

Wildflower Junk Journal | using Pink Monarch Prints Kraft Wildflower papers

yesimadeitmyself 2024-07-07 | Welcome to my channel. Today I am featuring a flip through of a Wildflower Journal I am giving as a birthday gift to a friend

This was such a fun project – it was hard to stop adding extra stuff! I used a hanging file folder to make the front flap flip pocket piece that I attached to the front cover

Inside there are pretty papers that I purchased from various kits from etsy (see links below) including some fun tags using floral cards and some pretty butterfly specimen cards! I made a dangle using repurposed bracelet and link chain that I bought at the craft store

Making a wreath tutorial | mesh wreath

yesimadeitmyself 2024-02-10 | Welcome to my channel. Today I am showing you how to make a beautiful wreath to hang on your front door or inside your home

This wreath uses mesh and other supplies you can purchase at the craft store. The method I use to attach the mesh is the pull, pinch & puff method which I explain in the video as well as I make my own 'picks' using ribbon to add dimension and cover up empty spaces, then adding the silk flowers

There are so many seasons and reasons to make a beautiful wreath! The photos shown in the video are
1.pink February / valentines day wreath
2. Christmas wreath in red and gold
3. purple flower wreath

All wreaths are made using the same technique

Supplies:
Easy Pull Mesh 10 in x 19 ft / 25.4 cm x 5.7 m – 1 or 2 rolls (2 if you want to double up)
Chenille or regular wire stems to attach
Wreath Form (large sized with 4 rows but use what works for your project)
Ribbons, mesh tubing, flowers

I bought a magnetic hook from the hardware store to hold up the wreath on my front door

Australian junk journal flip through | customer order Sold

yesimadeitmyself 2023-09-13 | Today I am featuring a flip through of my latest creation, an Australia themed junk journal. This was made as a custom order that will be a gift to someone from Canada living in Australia

This was such a creative and fun project… I had no idea initially what I would fill it with but took a look on Etsy and found some great digital kits (links below) to add, plus I coffee dyed some pages too! I used a paper bag which I crumpled up and then added hair conditioner to in order to give it a leather look. I used that paper to make an envelope, which I added a magnetic closure, and placed that on a piece of twine that I wrapped around the spine. The twine also holds the pretty multi-layered tassel on the outside

I hope the person receiving this journal will love it! I sure had a great time making it

Flutter Junk Journal flip thru

yesimadeitmyself 2023-09-09 | In this video, I am featuring a flip through of a lovely, very large, junk journal made for me by my friend Connie. We have known each other for many years and when chatting on the phone and she told me she also makes junk journals, I was so surprised and happy! When discussing a future visit, we decided we would make a journal for each other, in our own style, and swap them

The name of her journal is “flutter” and it contains things that fly: butterflies, birds, feathers… she knows I love pinks and nature and she really has the things I love in this thoughtful gift!

Plus she gave me a gift of lace and pretty beaded fabric from a wedding dress plus a lovely card

Thank you Connie for the beautiful journal but also for the gift of your friendship of many years! It means so much to me… take good care of yourself!

How to crochet a junk journal closure or piece of lace

yesimadeitmyself 2023-08-27 | In this video, I am featuring a tutorial on how to make crochet closure or lace for your junk journals (or other projects)

I am using size 3 crochet thread and a 0 size U.S. / 2.55 mm crochet hook, and a simple pattern. I made this 30 inch long closure for my most recent junk journal but you can make any length you like and use it as a piece of lace anywhere in your journal

The pattern is:
Row 1: Chain 5, add a marker, chain 2 more, turn
Following rows repeat pattern:
*Chain 2, then 5 x double crochet stitches starting from the market and in the chains (working from right to left)
Turn* repeat until you have the length that you wish!
Cut the thread / yard then weave in the ends at the beginning and end of the project

Crochet thread and hooks can be found at the thrift store and other sizes can be used. Experiment with other sizes of crochet hooks and yarn/string to match your project and make pretty lace or closures

Double Tag with acetate window to be sewn into a junk journal tutorial

yesimadeitmyself 2023-08-12 | Welcome to my channel. Today I am featuring a video tutorial on how to make a two sided, double tag with two pockets one of which has an acetate window to show a photo or other fussy cut. It also can hold two tags inside the pockets. The double folding tag can be sewn right into the journal with your other pages so you will see one side of the tag on one side of the page or you can sew it into the middle of a page of a signature so you can see the full tag

This was such a fun project… It looks like a tag but can be sewn in along with your signatures in a junk journal as a pretty way to showcase a photo in the acetate window

Somewhat inspired by Carol Tinson – I saw something she made during a flip through video which is similar but could not find her tutorial video so I made it my own way 😊

fabric pouch (envelope) for junk journals | ephemera holder for #happymail

yesimadeitmyself 2023-07-31 | 🌺🌺 today I am making a fabric pouch envelope to hold ephemera and to match your junk journal 🌺🌺

I use two square pieces of fabric, plus interfacing, sew them right sides together leaving a gap, then turning them right side out and adjoining two sides of the square together in a V formation to make an envelope type pouch

Embellish with lace and a pretty cluster on the corner to add some crafty flair

The pouch becomes a lovely ephemera holder to accompany your junk journal in matching colors or it will make great happy mail to ship a few lovely items to your crafty friends (and it helps keep items flat for less shipping charges)

I use my sewing machine to add the edged lace and to make decorative stitching to bond the 3 layers together. I use hand-stitching to stitch together the sides and add the cluster. You could hand stitch the entire project

Celebration of the life of Monty Montgomery | Boxtop 22 Arctic plane crash survivor and hero

yesimadeitmyself 2023-05-04 | This video is a celebration of the life of a hero, Monty, who survived a military plane crash in the Arctic to go on later to bravely battle cancer for years while retaining a positive attitude

This is also a dedication to a love story between Beth and Monty who met in 1991, 3 months before the crash and remained as they walked along the journey of his cancer together

Monty was a devoted Dad (to Morgan) and husband (to Beth), a proud member of the Canadian Armed Forces Communications Research Trade and veteran, a survivor of a military plane crash of Alert resupply airplane BOXTOP22 on 30 Oct 1991, a Disney enthusiast, a CFL fan and long-time season ticket holder, Disability Mentorship Program member, a world leading analyst at the Communications Security Establishment and an active member of the Union of National Defence Employees (UNDE). Monty made a difference in people's lives

Enduring close to 40 hours in an Arctic Blizzard, Monty sustained injuries due to frostbite and faced many challenges throughout his almost one year in hospital recovering, having amputations, enduring multiple micro-vascular reconstructive surgeries to bring toes to where his fingers used to be and learning how to live with a disability which he did with courage and dignity

Weeks after retirement from CSE Ottawa, in January 2020, Monty was again to face a fight for survival against stage 3 esophageal Cancer. His trip to the Disney Parks around the world and plans to spend winters in Florida would be cancelled. With his son Morgan and wife Beth by his side, he again fought with courage for the next 3 years. He accepted every treatment that was offered along the way and was in hospital (with only a one week break) from Dec 17th to his last day of radiation on February 8th 2023. After which time he was moved into a private facility to receive palliative care

His unfailing will to fight persevered, but throughout the many days in hospital, the cancer was rapidly advancing and his body weakened. He moved to Embassy West the week of February 16th receiving compassionate palliative care surrounded by family and friends who stood by his side 24/7 to ensure he was not alone. He passed away on February 23, 2023

Thank you to the many medical professionals and health care workers who helped Monty with the fight, the many friends who attended him bedside, well-wishers from around the world and his many supporters offering words of encouragement. The "Support Monty in his Battle with Cancer" GoFundMe was set up by the Macdonald family to help with his private medical expenses with the remaining funds to be donated to the Cancer Society

When asked how he retained his optimism throughout the challenges he faced, he replied "I've had a good life". A proud Dad, a survivor, an exemplary fighter and true hero; we retain many memories of a life well lived

elastic holder journal tutorial

yesimadeitmyself 2023-04-21 | In this tutorial, I show you how to make two fabric and thread covered 'tubes' to hold an elastic making a place to store bulky items in a junk journal. I added this holder to the inside back cover of my JJ where there is space to add envelopes and a mini book!

The tubes are easy to make and cover in any way you wish to make your own style to match your project

Fabric and lace dangle | bead wrap dangle Tutorial

yesimadeitmyself 2023-03-11 | This tutorial will demonstrate how I make a dangle using fabric, ribbon and lace (as requested by Charlotte Peterson)

I will also demonstrate how to wire wrap a bead to add as a pretty charm to the dangle! It is a simple process to wire wrap if you have the right tools and patience to practice!

I will attach the dangle to my current project (a Spring Peek a Boo Ephemera Holder - tutorial to make that is below). As well as show examples of the dangles I made for my recently completed French Blue Junk Journal

yesimadeitmyself 2022-12-25 | Merry Christmas! Today I am featuring a tag with a tag on the front that holds another tag! There is a pocket on the back side of the tag that holds ephemera

The tag on the front holds a card that has a tab and an eyelet with a dangle! I have added dangles and bells to shake it and make a cheerful christmas sound

The tag has a cluster on the top which I made using fabric, ribbon, lace & a button that holds rounds of threads

I used gold paint to go around the edges of the tag for a decorative touch

Dec 2022 | #dreamwithcarolinefavoritethings |Crafty Creations

yesimadeitmyself 2022-12-18 | As a Renaissance Woman and a lifelong crafter, in 2013, I created my first website with photo tutorials, no videos. I upgraded to a new multi-purpose platform website in 2021 and had to shut down the former site

This video features many of the crafts that I was making for the original website: jewellery, scarves & reversible tote bags. For years, I attended craft fairs and sold these items

Also gifts that I have made: baby bath set, beach baby tote bag (containing a hooded blanket and matching hat) and wreaths

I have also made quite a few homemade costumes for my son to wear to various conventions and for myself to wear to work halloween parties & galas (a pirate, a roaring 20s costume: including adding strips of sparkles to my shoes, & Lady Mary from the DA series). Always a fun challenge to take an image of a character and bring it to life

I have also spent time knitting and crocheting: making hats with matching cowls & a "hitchiker" wrap around scarf

More recently, I started my journey into making my own books. As I write in a journal daily, I decided to make them myself. With the addition of junk journal features, these I now call "Book Journals" which I sell at yesimadeitmyself.com

I then started a Youtube channel & have really enjoyed making flip throughs and tutorials to share with others in this wonderful crafting community

Gypsy junk journal flip through | Dec 2022

yesimadeitmyself 2022-12-13 | This is the first time I have made a junk journal (as opposed to a book that I usually make and requires binding using a kettle stitch and curved needle) and it was so fun to make something different

I made a hard cover using upcycled cardboard box, covered in fabrics and lace. Added a 'spine' that was just fabric and covered the outer spine with lace. The 2 signatures were then sewn in using a pamphlet stitch

I could then get busy decorating the pages with pockets, ruffles, lots of ephemera that came with the digital kit (loaded pockets kit). To the tassel, I added eyelash trim and upcycled jewelery (a former earring & beads from a necklace)

The 'petticoat' I made starting with a strip of matching paper, added the pretty lace and with thread and needle, went on to add the buttons which hang from a half dozen threaded beads to make them dangle. Then I could glue it on the bottom of the page

Added eyelets and dangles and paper clips. I made a hand -stitched lovely closure with fabric, lace and buttons to be tied at the side

The digital kit is Boho Heart by Emma Parrish Artist (purchased on Etsy) and I also added some Gypsy images from Graphics Fairy

The gorgeous coffee dyed papers were given to me by Miemie's Keepsakes - I was waiting for the right project to use them. The jewellery given to me by my Aunt and the purple beads I bought a necklace at the thrift store

The pretty sparkly embellishments are all the way from India and purchased from Mehataj @bohoneeds She offers lovely supplies from sari silk, sparkly embellishments and kits that include papers

The beautiful fabric are fat quarters I bought at the quilting store called MakerSavvy
