Rodger The Railfan: Three Trains Rodger Coleman 2021-09-11 | September 3, 3031 was a beautiful day for railfanning the CSX Bruceton Subdivision. First, we get southbound manifest train Q533 struggling over the grade in White Bluff; then Q125, the hotshot intermodal, hustles merchandise northbound towards Nashville; and, finally, X605 roars south through Kingston Springs with two Union Pacific locomotives in the lead. Even Slower Rodger Coleman 2020-01-25 | CSX road crews returned to MP23.9 this morning to replace ties and rework the ballast where the rail was welded the other day. Super-friendly, hard-working guys! I heard the foreman ask the dispatcher for a 10mph slow order regarding the oncoming Q531-24, which made for an awesome show. Took about eight minutes to get through the crossing!

Nice mix of rolling stock on this long manifest train, including an empty finger rack, some reefers, a CSX coil car, and a wide variety of box cars.I do love these low-priority junk trains!

Happy New Year From CSX! Rodger Coleman 2020-01-02 | I saw two unit trains carrying empty CSX grain hoppers southbound towards Memphis today (only one of which was captured). I was unable to make out the numbers on the scanner, but I believe they are both extra, unscheduled trains. Minutes later, Q531-01 came cruising through -- note the five (5!) locomotives pulling an otherwise puny manifest. I assume those engines are needed elsewhere. No holidays for railroaders!

A Change in the Weather Rodger Coleman 2019-11-21 | The morning started out bright an sunny as the Q125, a hot-shot intermodal, zoomed northbound towards Nashville. An hour later, the clouds had moved in -- but my railfan buddy joined me to catch another northbound train, this time the Q530, with an all-UP consist on the point. That's his drone flying around in the background!
Struggling Uphill Rodger Coleman 2019-11-19 | I met a local railfan (and former CSX engineer) and he showed me this spot in White Bluff where heavy trains can have a hard time getting up the grade. This one was barely going 20 MPH through the crossing and took almost seven minutes to pass. Turned out his friend was driving the locomotive and came over and gave us a wave (sadly, not captured on camera).
