Jim has been working on building a Rally Fighter in a box from his personal shop, and has been supported by the advice of the build team over the phone and email, while also using the build wikis as aid during his build. We posted a video of Jim getting his Rally Fighter engine started for the first time yesterday, so he's making excellent progress! Jeff High and Family Build Rally Fighter in Phoenix Microfactory Local Motors 2014-07-15 | Local Motors Phoenix micro-factory hosts Jeff High and family/friends this week, building a brand new, 700+ horsepower Rally Fighter. All the way from Louisiana, the High family and friends are enjoying the first day of building their Rally Fighter, and have already made quite a lot of progress with the aid of the Local Motors build team and build wikis. We are incredibly happy to have Jeff and his family and friends, along with their special guest, Lizzy, joining us for this entire week, and we are looking forward to seeing how far their Rally Fighter will come along during the week. Another interesting point is that this is the first Rally Fighter out of our factory that will integrate a finely tuned LS3 engine, with Edelbrock supercharger that pushes out over 700 horsepower! Local Motors Open House: July 12th, 2014 Local Motors 2014-07-12 | The Local Motors Phoenix micro-factory had a great turn out at the open house that was held today! We had a bunch of great guests, including Tech Shop and Local Motors fans from all over the valley. The entire fleet of LM vehicles were out to play, including the Verrado drift trike, Verrado bicycle conversion, XC2V, 3D printed car and the ever-popular Rally Fighter was back in full swing, taking customers into flight over our jump. The Labs department was also in high demand, as our guests were treated to welding lessons and other building demonstrations. Our shop specials were a huge hit, especially the Estes Proto X quadcopter, which was featured on our blog earlier in the week with a new 3D printed helipad. All of us here at Local Motors would like to thank everyone who took the time to come visit us today, and we are thrilled with the great turn out. Testing Lizard Skin Tubs on Rally Fighter Local Motors 2014-07-01 | Local Motors engineer, Michael Niemiec, shows us some of the testing that he has done using a product called Lizard Skin, a coating used to keep parts cool from the heat. During testing, by coating the lower tubs of the Rally Fighter with the Lizard Skin, the engineers were able to lower the heat transfer into the cabin by 16 degrees! Local Motors Community Member Project: The Modular Motorcycle Local Motors 2014-06-25 | Local Motors community member, Dusty Trounce, opened his doors for us today for a visit to check out some of the projects that he has going on. Although he is right in the middle of a couple personal builds, Dusty has a project on the Local Motors website which is centered around building a motorcycle that is modular, allowing riders to change different components of a bike such as the rear suspension set-up, forks or seat by just bolting on. This allows for more affordable customization with minimal tools required.
