Return of the White-eyed Chompjefftastic2020-07-11 | Hi, I got my copy in the mail today.
Entirely new, unopened. I unpackaged it and tested it out on my Nintendo 64 and it happens to work.
Looks like that White-eyed Chomp thing is back in this copy, but aside from that this seems to be a fairly normal cartridge of the game.
It remembers though. That is something that I can't really explain...Super Scrimblo on Nintendo Switch (Homebrew)jefftastic2024-05-06 | Super Scrimblo is a Future Primitive project that has been in hiatus for a while. I have done a rough port of the game to the Nintendo Switch as a proof of concept. I might clean it up some more and re-publicize it as beta 3 on the Future Primitive itch page.
Additional thanks to Coffeebat, deathlobotomy and izzint for their past contributions to the project
Github: github.com/jeff-fantasticNew Newman interactions/moves (Read Description)jefftastic2024-04-25 | I didnt feel like making a proper "Smooth Moves, Newman" video this time around, so I just recorded some gameplay featuring a lot of the new movement options that are slated for this (hopefully final) iteration of the moveset. The following are an explanation for the changes and additions
+ The ground pound roll has been superseded by the new dive move. The dive move lets you quickly correct your mistakes by snapping to the direction you're holding in. You're free to peel out into a ball to retain your speed or to belly slide for a much quicker stop based on whether or not you're still holding the crouch button. - The ground pound roll itself has been removed, currently. I want to figure out a way to make it control better since there were a lot of issues getting the timing right between a normal ground-pound and a ground-pound roll. This is to be discussed, but I cant guarantee it's comeback. A good alternative for quick ground speed is going into a roll from a crouch. + New pole climbing interaction, very self explanatory. This will show up in future content + New door interaction, again very self explanatory. I'm quite proud of it as orchestrating several different parts (the animation of the player and the door, along with repositioning and camera work) were really hard to string together coherently. Using the event engine in gd-cinder helps a lot and makes setting up cutscene variations stupid easy. + New pushing interaction; Newman can push certain obstacles. Any pushed bodies will have their descendants follow, as (poorly) demonstrated here with the poles on top of the block. Like the pole interactions, these are just another tool in the level design toolbox I am proud to have designed. + New bonking states, nothing too crazy since its really just a small detail. + Not shown explicitly in the video, but slopes have been partially reworked at the time of recording. Slopes are a lot more punishing now and will try their best to deter you from climbing up them, moreso the steeper they are. However, they still retain their aid in boosting the player's speed when you're going down them. The maths used to calculate Newman's speed must be reworked to include a separate slope speed vector as the plans for this system go against the reliance on using the face angle of the player as a basis for all velocity calculations. No longer will slopes be a suggestion, but rather an obstacle you must plan against! (unless they're marked as non slippery)
So yes, theres quite a lot in store here. Once I start working on this project again and get this all cleaned up, I might end up releasing a test demo to gauge reception on a lot of these additions and changes. Also I know the camera floor snapping is jarring here; the camera will be receiving more work.
Got bored today, so I decided to spend some hours importing Bob-omb Battlefield into the Newman engine.

We've got a long way to go from here, but I can say with confidence that the future is looking very bright. Development has been very steady going!
Thank you all for accompanying on not just my own journey, but the journey of me and my crew who put a lot of time and effort into this project. Keep an eye out for the upcoming release of the Newman Network Alpha Preview.
