- Engraving Speed: For this test we ran both machines at their max operating speeds. The Thunder Bolt completed the project almost 5 minutes faster than the P2!
- Cutting Speed: For this test we ran both machines at 100% power and used each manufacturer's recommended speed for 1/8 plywood. The Bolt finished nearly a whole minute faster.
- Noise Test: If you plan on keeping a laser machine inside your home, the noise that it produces is extremely important to consider. For this test we used a decibel meter to accurately measure the noise produced while the machines were running. The Bolt ranged from 68-74 decibels. The P2 ranged from 77-87 decibels. For reference, below are a few comparable noises.
60 decibels: Conversation from 3ft away or business office 70 decibels: Classroom chatter or vacuum cleaner 80 decibels: Freight train from 100ft away or city trafficTurn and Burn Epsd.4House of Lasers2024-03-20 | ...Episode 2 Turn and BurnHouse of Lasers2024-02-28 | RotoBoss and C-Lo just talkingLaser Lenses, Lets FOCUS!House of Lasers2024-02-09 | Why and When to use all these different style lenses. 1.5", 2.0", 2.5", 4.0"Turn and Burn TeaserHouse of Lasers2023-12-24 | Can't Tell you yet!! Odin 32 55w VS Nova 63 130w..
While we are talking about the new Bolt 30w This comparison is between a Odin 55w RF and Nova 130w glass tube. While the glass tube is over double the wattage the smaller, denser beam of the RF is capable of cutting most of the same thickness materials.
Of course there is a lot more to this... but this does kind of explain why we see the results we do. RF metal CO2 lasers and DC glass CO2 lasers are two different types of lasers that operate based on different principles and technologies. Here are the main differences between them: * Laser Medium: * RF Metal CO2 Laser: In RF (Radio Frequency) metal CO2 lasers, the laser medium is a gas mixture of carbon dioxide, nitrogen, and helium or other gases, enclosed in a metal tube (typically made of stainless steel). The metal tube is excited by an RF electrical discharge, causing the gas molecules to reach an excited state and emit laser light at the CO2 wavelength (10.6 micrometers). * DC Glass CO2 Laser: In DC (Direct Current) glass CO2 lasers, the laser medium consists of a glass tube filled with a gas mixture similar to the RF metal CO2 lasers. However, instead of using an RF discharge to excite the gas, DC glass CO2 lasers use a direct current to excite the gas and generate the laser light. * Efficiency and Power: * RF Metal CO2 Laser: RF metal CO2 lasers are generally more efficient and capable of delivering higher output power compared to DC glass CO2 lasers. This is due to the superior heat dissipation properties of metal tubes, which allow for higher power levels without significant risk of damage. * DC Glass CO2 Laser: DC glass CO2 lasers, while still capable of delivering respectable power levels, may have limitations in terms of maximum output power and efficiency compared to RF metal CO2 lasers. * Beam Quality: * RF Metal CO2 Laser: RF metal CO2 lasers typically produce a high-quality laser beam with a well-defined TEM00 mode. This makes them suitable for precision cutting, engraving, and other applications requiring a clean, focused beam. The TEM00 mode is the lowest-order transverse mode. It has the lowest threshold, smallest beam waist and divergence, and contains no nodes in the output beam transverse intensity distribution. * * DC Glass CO2 Laser: DC glass CO2 lasers might have a slightly lower beam quality due to the nature of the glass tube and excitation method. This may result in a less defined beam, making them better suited for applications that do not require extremely high beam quality.Thunder NOVA 63/130 Engraving Beer Taps and Cutting HopsHouse of Lasers2023-03-08 | Thunder NOVA 63/130 Engraving Beer Taps and Cutting Hops with settings at the end.Thunder Odin Photo Engraving AcrylicHouse of Lasers2023-03-03 | Thunder Laser's High Speed, High resolution ODIN running a two stage, Positive/Negative on JDS acrylic plaque.Black Acrylic Trophy Cut and EngravedHouse of Lasers2023-03-01 | Black Gloss Acrylic Cut on a Nova 130 Engraved on Aurora 20w and finished up with a Hickory base.Wood/Slate Cutting Board JDSHouse of Lasers2023-02-12 | Engraving wood on the Odin series 32/55w RF Engraving slate on the Aurora 8 20w FiberPaying Homage to a Legend KEN BLOCKHouse of Lasers2023-02-03 | We love all of Ken Blocks work.
