This is known as empathy burnout and it happens when you constantly put others first before yourself. Think of it this way. If you keep pouring water into everyone else's cup, your cup will be empty. You need to pour into your cup too or how else are you going to pour into other's cup?
In order to take care of others, you must take care of yourself. Empathy without boundaries is self-destruction, and it's extremely important to take care of yourself and prioritize your own needs. Reinforcing your boundaries for your own needs is not selfish and you should always put that at the top of your list.

- I stopped investing in relationships that were harmful to my mental health. I rather be by myself than getting tangled in unhealthy and toxic cycles with someone else. - I began choosing myself even when no one is cheering for me. I realized that external validation is a bonus, not a goal. - I started standing in my own power and not allowing anyone to steal my joy. - I stopped going back and forth with people who were not committed to understanding me. - I let go of the emotional baggage that was never mine to begin with. Carrying other people’s trauma is no longer an option for me. - I realize that not everything in life is supposed to make sense.
