But is it haunted?It was still dark on the morning of February 29, 1704, when 300 warriors from the French Army and their allies from the Abenaki and Mohawk tribes crept into Deerfield. The French and British were fighting Queen Anne’s War for control of the continent. The little New England town barely knew what had hit it before houses were plundered and burned, livestock were killed, 56 residents were murdered and 112 were captured. Those 112 (or those of them who would make it, that is) would spend the next few months hiking to Canada.Among the 112 captured were the reverend John Williams, five of his seven children, and his wife, Eunice. Eunice, though, was in no shape to make the trek to Canada — she had given birth just a day before. Eunice replaced one of the girls in their tribe who had died of smallpox. She was loved and taken care of by her new tribe, and took on the name Marguerite Kanenstenhawi. She abandoned her English language, was baptized Catholic and married a Native man. Even after her brothers and father made repeated attempts to convince her to come back home, she still refused.Some say that Mrs. Williams haunts the river by the bridge in remembrance of the violent death she faced. Struck down by tomahawk in icy waters while her family watched, just hours after her newborn and second youngest were torn from her arms and killed. Others say that she appears to passersby whom she mistakes for her family. After all these years, perhaps she still waits for them to come back for her. Still others say she is haunted by the fate of her daughter, the one who bore her very name, and who abandoned her family and the religion her family valued so much.Whatever her reason for returning, locals claim to have spotted Eunice near the waters under the bridge and floating around a nearby dam. She’ll appear on the bridge too, but only under the right conditions. Most Haunted Abandoned Prison Camp *Secret Tunnels FOUND* The FAM 2022-10-11 | Hiding deep in the woods of Massachusetts is a little-known spot that feels straight out of a horror flick. The Rutland Prison Camp is located in Rutland State Park in the central region of the state. These crumbling ruins have a unique past and are a fascinating place to explore today, if you dare? In the ruins of an old prison complex where drunkards would be put to work growing potatoes for more hardened criminals. The prison was built in 1903 to house minor offenders such as drunkards and the like, and contained a fully-functioning co-op farm to keep them busy and productive. In addition to the prison-bound potatoes, the farm, which operated on 150 acres of a 914 acre site, also cultivated chickens and dairy cows, producing enough milk to sell to the nearby town of Worcester. In addition to the farm facilities, the prison facility contained cell blocks, staff housing, and a water tower. In 1907 a tuberculosis hospital was added to the complex to treat the patients. Due to the fact that the prison grounds were built on a drainage area for the local water supply the whole place was abandoned in 1934, left to crumble in the wood. Today the ruins of the prison are open to the public to hike through and explore. TERRIFYING Cover-Up Discovered in Abandoned ASYLUM will SHoCK YoU 😱 The FAM 2022-08-15 | The Metropolitan State Hospital was located in Waltham, Massachusetts, USA and opened in 1930. It was a facility to treat the mentally ill and at one time was the largest such hospital of its type in New England. It shared its grounds with The Gaebler Children’s Center for mentally ill youth.The facility came into being as a result of legislation passed in Massachusetts which decreed that the state should be responsible for the care of the mentally ill. A site was sought in the Greater Boston area and Waltham was eventually decided upon. Work began in 1926 and the first building was opened in 1930. Work continued until 1935 as more buildings were added and it once completed, it was regarded as the most modern mental health facility in the country. The complex cost $1.8 million at time of completion. The hospital came under scrutiny as the years progressed. There was suggestions that young patients were frequently sedated and disciplined although this was disputed at the time. In 1980, Metropolitan State Hospital became the focus of media attention when a patient, Melvin Wilson, admitted to the murder of fellow patient Anna Marie Davee in 1978. Wilson created 3 separate graves for different parts of her body and kept seven of her teeth. The hospital closed in 1992 as the state of Massachusetts sought to close mental hospitals and have patients moved to private care. It was left abandoned and decaying for a period of time before eventually being demolished, making way for a large apartment complex in its place. The Met-Fern Cemetery remains on the site and is maintained by the state. The community grew from 35 students in 1928 to 250 students in 1972, but enrollment quickly declined in the late 1970s and early 1980s. This untimely collapse caused the abbey to abandon plans for a grand cathedral, electrical plant, football stadium, and other buildings. Approximately 20 elderly monks continued to live in the abbey until it eventually closed entirely in 2005. In 2007, it sold. The elderly monks allowed the property to be developed by a professional viticulturist for wine production, and the Winery at Holy Cross Abbey remains open to this day. The possibility of prisoners’ spirits being trapped inside the abbey they were forced to build forever remains. Post-construction, the abbey served as living quarters for hundreds of people. It housed the sick and elderly in an on-site infirmary and many monks were buried in the cemetery behind the Sister’s house. It is surrounded by green space but hosts an eerie aura after the sun goes down.The maze of dark corridors throughout the abbey provide plenty of space for the paranormal to occupy. The basement taunts all those who enter with an unpleasant energy. Abandoned Amusement Park so TERRIFYING people RAN OUT (HIDDEN BASEMENT FOUND & We Werent Alone) The FAM 2022-06-20 | On tonight's Haunted and Abandoned Adventure, James The FaM and friend Lou Rock travel to Massachusetts to Visit the Abandoned Mount Tom. Once a thriving Amusement Part and Ski Lodge, it has now been Abandoned for nearly 30 years. Most of the structures were torn torn down, yet there was one SCARY area they tried to keep covered but James and Lou are about to stubble upon something very dark and very spookey. Every abandoned place is a little bit bizarre. I think that kind of just comes with the territory. Some of them are just better at hiding it than others (if you got the reference, pat yourself on the back). Each one is so very similar, yet completely unique in their own special ways. Derelict liter coats the ground. Colorful graffiti is plastered all over the walls. Distant echoes of days long since passed still linger in the air. But this one was different. Very different. The only other place that I got a similar vibe from was the infamous Sunrise Resort many years ago. And that was the first abandoned place that we had ever explored. Walking through the grounds was just very, for lack of a better word, bizarre. It was surreal. We’re talking a whole new world living just outside the spectrum of our own. And so few of us even know of its existence. It honestly gave me a profound feeling of, “Holy sh*t. Following a similar trend of many of the now abandoned ski areas we’ve covered in the past, it opened during the boom period of skiing. During this period, smaller ski slopes began to pop up all over the Western Massachusetts and Northern Connecticut areas. Their notable amenities included ski school, night skiing (who the Hell does that?), and a state of the art chair lift system. She thrived here for many years. But, regrettably, that trend of seasonal fun slowly began to wane in the New England area. Larger snow resort empires, particularly in Vermont, gradually began to consolidate their power over the industry. Her story ended in 1998 when she finally went out of business. Or was it just the next chapter? Though there have been several attempts at a revival, the Mount Tom Ski Area has sat here abandoned ever since. McDonald, who built the three-story, 4800 square foot brick mansion, was an enterprising landowner, farmer and businessman in Fountain and Warren counties. Being community minded, Mr. McDonald donated the land for Attica's McDonald Park, and built a water delivery system from hollowed logs to provide Attica’s first city water access from the estate’s natural springs for the townspeople. In later years, Attica would name McDonald Street, just south of the estate, after Mr. McDonald.Once part of a working farm, the house boasts a grand walnut staircase that reaches up from the first floor all the way to the roof, where for many years, the mansion’s widow’s walk offered breathtaking top-of-the-world views of Attica, the Wabash River Valley and surrounding areas. One can just imagine the amazing stargazing from the top of the world!Still standing on nearly an acre nestled up to the beautifully wooded Ravine Park to the north, the McDonald house has been lovingly restored by local history enthusiast and businesswoman, Katy Kays, alongside her dedicated crew of professionals. Whats Lurking Underneath Haunted SLOSS FURNACE The FAM 2022-03-24 | On the outskirts of The Magic City sits Sloss Furnaces. James Withers Sloss started construction on the Sloss Furnaces in 1881, just 10 years after the city's founding. This entrepreneur quickly capitalized on Birmingham's fortunate location and the enormous amount of cheap labor available in the form of freed slaves. To cement Sloss' place in this financial bonanza, he used his wealth and political influence to become the first president of the newly merged Nashville and Decatur Railway Company. His first priority was to expand their railway lines down to Birmingham, thereby securing the exportation of steel made at Sloss Furnaces.Sloss opened the gates of his eponymous furnace company on April 18, 1882, employing hundreds of men from the surrounding area. The positions at Sloss were highly dangerous, but also highly sought-after as working with the blast furnaces was fairly advanced at that time. No government agency protected the rights of workers; 12-hour days were the norm and pay often came in the form of scripts only good at the company store.While pay was low and hours ran high, industrial accidents were what workers feared most. Some men fell into the molten steel and incinerated, while others fell victim to the silent poisoning of carbon monoxide or the volatile bursts from steam pipes. Every inch of Sloss Furnaces held danger for the workers who toiled there -- from the catwalk to the tunnel, the furnaces to the wheel -- every precarious step could have been, and often was, their last.Perhaps the most ghastly death is one that befell a worker on his lunch break. Sitting near one of the large flywheels used to power the huge scalding boilers, he leaned a little too close and the wheel caught his clothing, slowly dragging him into the gears. 3AM at The Most HAUNTED Place on EARTH The FAM 2022-03-18 | On tonight's Scary Adventure James the Fam and OmarGoshTV traveled to Kentucky to Visit one of the Most Haunted Places on Earth, Waverly Hills Sanatorium. If you didn't see Parts 1 or 2 make sure to check out the links BELOW ⬇️ This is the 3rd Part of the Body Chute at 3AM! Some people today call it a Body Slide, Body Chute, and even The Death Tunnel, where the dead were transported down and collected at the bottom. A group of Waverly medical staff would collect the bodies and take them off the hill to be cremated or buried.The biggest misconception is that it is a slide. It really isn't a slide at all. The "Underground Tunnel" used a rail car system and steps that connect to the 1st floor of the main building and the basement of the original hospital. It stretched 525 feet underground to the bottom of the hill where the dead were collected by the family or cremated. Only about 425 feet remain of the tunnel. The original usage for this tunnel is that it was a warm way to come up the hill in the winter and a very efficient way to bring up supplies and coal to the buildings. As time tells us the tunnel was used to process the corpses off the hill in a way that the patients would not see the dead taken away in hearses. Directors of the sanatorium decided this was the best way to keep morale up. For fear of the 2 World War coming to U.S. soil, the tunnel could also be used as an air raid shelter with enough room to fit everyone from all buildings inside safely. Something Really BAD Happened Here HOTEL 666 😱 OmarGoshTV & The FaM The FAM 2022-03-16 | The Lady in Green is without a doubt the most famous ghost of the hotel. She is said to still haunt the halls of the Hilton Netherland Plaza to this day. It is said that the Lady in Green was the wife whose husband was killed in an accident. She was the wife of one of the hotel’s laborers back in 1930. Her husband was killed during the construction of the hotel a year later. His body was never found and it is said that his wife continues to search for his body even in the afterlife. Construction workers who helped in the hotel’s renovation in 1983 have reported seeing her on the Mezzanine level and the Hall of Mirrors.HistoryThe plans for the hotel were announced in August of 1929 and the hotel was completed in 1931. It was the Emerley family who financed the building of the hotel. The family made its riches in the processing of the by-products of the Cincinnati stockyards.When the hotel opened in January 1931, it had the very latest in technology and comfort. The hotel opened with seven restaurants; the Rotisserie Grill; the Coffee Shop; the Pavilion Caprice; the Arcadia Tea Room; the Luncheonette and the Frontier Room. In 1942, the hotel was damaged by fire. Most of the damage was because of the water used to extinguish the fire. OVERNIGHT Most Haunted Places Lake Shawnee Abandoned Amusement Park The FAM 2022-03-06 | On tonight's Haunted OVERNIGHT Challenge Video, James the Fam and The Southcacks travel to West Virginia to spend an entire night at the Famous Haunted Lake Shawnee Abandoned Amusment Park.Lake Shawnee Amusement Park welcomed tens of thousands of visitors during its second run, which ran for just three years in the 1980s. Unfortunately, high insurance prices forced the White family to close their doors for the second and final time after a few short seasons, forcing them to pivot to other activities to keep the land active. They hosted fishing tournaments in what used to be the swimming lake, and they planned to create a space on the property for mud bogging, a motor sport the family knew would draw crowds to watch. While excavating a mud bogging track, though, the White family made a series of surprising discoveries that added depth to the property’s already rich history.Many people report interactions with the little girl who died on the swings. Because the White family acquired the original swing set when they reopened the park in the 1980s, it seems possible—likely, even—that the girl’s spirit might spend time near the spot where she took her final breath. Sure enough, some eerie interactions have taken place near the swing. Her swing is marked by a red ribbon, although she seems to prefer an adjacent swing where an owl ornament hangs down. On a still day, the owl seems to dance in a breeze only it can feel; we watched it shake and spin on an otherwise still day, when not even the leaves in the trees above seemed to move. Curiously, the owl will often stop in its tracks, falling limp as if someone hit a switch—or as if a child dropped it as she moved on to other toys.The boy who died when he drowned in the lake it also reported to move throughout the park, seemingly preferring the area at the front of the park where he can welcome and protect visitors in a way that he could not protect himself when he was alive. Close to the lake, a white plastic pinwheel attached to the side of an old ticket booth may be his connection from his world to that of the living. Like the owl ornament, the pinwheel moves even when there is no wind, suggesting that someone we can’t see might have the ability to control it. During our visit, Chris showed us a video featuring a woman asking for the pinwheel to move—to speed up, to go faster, to stop—and it does, even without the help of the wind.Is Lake Shawnee Amusement Park haunted? While it may be impossible to separate the suspicious from the supernatural, one thing is for sure: there doesn’t seem to be any evil spirits on the property. Despite the Shawnee burial grounds just across the field and the resting place for the Clay children who perished in a violent attack, there are only stories about playful ghosts who only seem interested in human connection.
