Tim J Spencer 2025-05-06 | SOMEWHERE (CHORALE) is a soaring, emotional choral piece originally taken from the musical Rising Sun by Tim J. Spencer.

This version blends two moments from the show: the intimate solo Somewhere, and the climactic Finale. Beginning gently as a solo, the song gradually builds, layering seven female vocal lines before erupting into a triumphant final chorus with full choir and orchestra.

Originally recorded in 2018 with six outstanding vocalists and a choir of 12, this completed version includes a seventh voice generated in 2025 using AI voice modeling (based on Tim’s own vocals) via the Sonarworks SoundID VoiceAI platform.

The Legend (1949) is a song from Tim J Spencer's musical The Tombstones. After Sophie tells Alex she can no longer see him he decides that the best way to see Sophie again is to kill himself to join her (as she is a Zombie). Professor Bradley stumbles across Alex in his process to trying to do this and stops him and starts to talk him round. He starts to explain that many years ago, when he was a young man, he too fell for Sophie. Suddenly he bursts into a rock song to explain to Alex what happened all those many years ago.

An 'I Want' Cabaret Song for Musical Theatre.

This is a song that was been created for the Mercury Songwriting Contest a contest held during the lockdown of 2020 to find an 'I Want' song for Musical Theatre for the Mercury Theatre, Colchester in association with Perfect Pitch.

Creating an 'I Want' song, should be something that I can do quite easily, I have always wanted to write for Disney and Alan Menken is pretty much the king of the 'I Want Song'. The 'I Want Song' in a musical is a song (usually at the very front of the show in the first few songs) that establishes what a main character is striving for in their world. A prime example would be 'Part Of Your World' from The Little Mermaid but nearly every musical has an 'I Want Song' in the early part of the show.

I said I expected to find it easy (as that's probably my 'go to' setting) but with this I had no idea where to go. I struggled with the idea for weeks and was thinking I wouldn't get something completed in time for the closing date. Then, this morning, I suddenly had one of those ideas that was a real godsend. I was thinking about a friend of mine who's missing the theatre desperately since lockdown, and was thinking how much I used to adore being in a theatre, whether it was empty or full, and everything about it, back from the days working with a great producer friend of mine putting our very first shows together and it all started coming together lyrically.

I was originally looking for a 'show' to hang the 'I Want Song' on, in many cases the theme of the 'I Want Song' is reprised later in the musical in an apt, and sometimes deeply poignant and clever, way. (i.e. Somewhere That's Green - in Little Shop of Horrors) so had been struggling until the actual notion of 'I Want to be in a theatre again' came to mind.

So this is my new song 'Let Me Be On Stage', I hope you find it appealing.

Tim J Spencer 2019-07-03 | Let Me Be Free is one of the most personal and emotionally powerful songs I’ve ever written.

I was once asked what depression feels like. After years of struggling with my own mental health, and having been to some very dark places—including moments when suicide felt like a real option—I tried to put those emotions into words. This song is the result.

It was written not just to express what I was feeling, but in the hope that it might help someone else who’s also struggling with depression, suicidal thoughts, or grief.

Heartbreakingly, a friend who once told me she wanted this played at her funeral did take her own life, and I was later asked to perform this song as part of the service. I now share it with anyone who may feel lost, alone, or just needs to feel heard.

They all head to the streets as do hundreds and then thousands of others, Joshua sings of the Freedom and the moment in the city whilst the East Berliners are all heading to the Wall. Hans has been instructed by Freidrich, the deputy of Arbeitsgruppe 6, to kill Elin's child when it is born. Hans is horrified by the order and decides, with his wife Marietta, to steal the child after the birth and for them to raise the child as their own until a time comes to be able to tell the child, called Joshua, of what has happened. Hans duly takes the baby, as Freidrich has instucted, when Joshua is born and takes the child outside the jail where he passes Joshua to Marietta. She holds Joshua and sings to him whilst Hans re-enters the hospital ward of the jail to tell Elin that Joshua has died, as per Freidrich's instructions. Elin collapses with grief and Hans, after consoling leaves disgusted by what he's had to do. He sings of how it isn't right but how it needs to be done. The song ends the first act of the show.

Always Through Always is a song taken from the musical Berlin. Gustav has made it through the Berlin Wall on the night he, Beppo, Elin and Lutz try to escape. Unbeknown to Gustav Elin & Lutz were arrested at the Wall as Lutz had betrayed the friends. Elin is now in prision in Bautzen. Gustav made it through the wall but watched his friend, Beppo, be shot and killed by the border guards during their 'escpae'. He now waits for Elin in the park that was their meeting place, but she has yet to (and will not) arrive. He sings of the loss of his friend and his concern for Elin's whereabouts and also how he might survive in the West on his own.
