Tips for fishing Lake Winnipeg with Bruin Outfitting - - HuntFishMB Trip Tips Hunt Fish Manitoba 2023-11-14 | In this HuntFishMB Trip tips video, we catch up with Matt Cornell of Bruin Outfitting and ask him for his top tips for fishing Lake Winnipeg. This is one you're not gonna want to miss!1. Clear your Line: Most of the time while fishing with Bruin Outfitting guests will fish outside (Weather permitting) for ease of hole hopping. Sometimes, that means ice will build on your line to a point you cannot reel the line through your eyelets. When you finally get that big fish opportunity you have been dreaming of. The last thing you want is something in your control like ice build-up on your line - to be the reason you don’t land the fish of a lifetime. Take a couple of seconds every few minutes to access the ice on your line and quickly clear it off if necessary. 2. Rod Selection:Depending on the lure and depth of water, rod selection can make a big difference in your likelihood of landing a fish. Matt explains that he likes a softer rod in shallow water. The reason being is that if you are fishing shallow enough water with a stiffer rod, slamming that fish with a big hook set can send that fish quickly to the top of the ice, and without any time to react you could knock your hook off on the ice. A softer tip still allows you to get a good hook set in but doesn't have the same backbone that could skyrocket the fish towards the ice, This gives you a better opportunity to take control of the fight and finesse the fish up the hole when the opportunity arises.3. Be Mobile:Lake Winnipeg is a huge expanse of water with a relatively flat and featureless bottom. With no obvious features to naturally attract and school up fish, you have to find them. It is important to be mobile and make a lot of moves if you aren't catching fish. Once you start to catch a few, make smaller moves until you are right on top of them. This can be a key tactic in turning around a slow fishing day and making it one to remember. 4. Fish the Column:A lot of the fish you catch are close to the bottom. However, it is incredible how active fish can be when you encounter them on the sonar higher in the column. If you mark a fish mid-column on Lake Winnipeg, there’s a good chance you catch it instantly. Real up to the mark, and trigger that bite!5. When to Move:Matt gave some incredible insight on when you are on fish but still might want to move. He furthered by saying when you get on a spot and the fishing is fast-paced and the action is high, make the most of it. But if that action begins to slow down, even if you are still catching a few. That can be a sign that it is time to make a small move. Begin drilling holes in all directions of the spot you are on and try to get back on that hot action. If you end up staying on a spot too long, and the fishing completely slows down. The school may be completely moved off and can prove difficult to get back on. Lip Grip: The health of the fish is the number one priority in all scenarios. A lip grip is a critical component of that. Once you get your fish to the top of the hole. Place the lip grip on it. Then take the hook out while the fish is still mostly in the water. Place the fish back down in the hole and leave it submerged while you get your camera. Then, snap a super quick photo and release your trophy to be caught again.4. Equipment Care:Lake Winnipeg is a beast and hard on equipment. It's difficult for even the most organized anglers to not break something on each excursion out. But there are ways to prevent this. Easy Walleye Pasta Recipe! Hunt Fish Manitoba 2023-10-20 | What you need:2 walleye fillets2 cloves of garlic, diced fine1 handful of olives, rough chopped2 Tablespoons of capers, whole or rough chopped2 handfuls of cherry tomatoes, halved1 Tablespoon of lemon zestJuice of ½ a lemon¼ Cup sun-dried tomatoes2 servings of your favourite noodles¼ Cup of feta cheese, crumbled¼ cup Italian parsley, choppedFresh basilSalt + Pepper3 Tablespoons of cooking oilHow to make it:Fill a large bot with water, add salt and turn up the heat to bring it to a boil. While the water warms, heat a large pan to medium-high and sautee the capers and olives in oil until they start to show signs of browning, only about a minute or so. Add the cherry tomatoes and allow to brown, then add the sun-dried tomatoes, lemon zest, garlic with a pinch of salt and pepper. Cook for another minute or two. Get your noodles in the boiling water, you should have about 10 minutes to finish up the sauce as the noodles cook. Place the walleye in the pan and season with a pinch of salt + pepper. Try to move the fish as little as possible as it will become more delicate as it cooks. Once the fish has turned white, deglaze the pan with the lemon juice and stir around gently to loosen anything stuck to the bottom of the pan. Add the crumbled feta and a scoop of pasta water to help bring a sauce together, then add the cooked noodles over top. Stir gently to coat the noodles while adding the fresh parsley and basil. Stuffed Game Sausage Pocket (With Venison Sausage) Hunt Fish Manitoba 2023-10-07 | What you need:1 package of puff pastry, thawed½ onion, diced2 Tablespoons of tallow or butter6-8 mushrooms, diced4 wild game sausages Thyme½ Cup of shredded cheeseSplash of beer or wineHow to make it:Start by heating a cast iron pan on medium-high and saute the diced onions in tallow until soft and browned. Add the mushrooms and cook through. Squeeze the seasoned wild game sausage meat out of the casing and add to the pan. Cook until the meat is cooked through, then add a splash of beer or wine to deglaze the pan, helping lift any bits that are stuck to the bottom. Cut a sheet of puff pastry to fit in a camp cooker (aka Pie Iron) and lay the sheets on both the bottom and top. Fill the pockets with the sausage mixture and close to seal the edges.
