New Javelin Slugs: FX Impact M3 .30 cal Over 150 FPE! UpNorthAirGunner | Airgun Hunting 2023-03-30 | Patriot Javelin .25 and .30 cal slugs are now available! I can now share with you the slugs we have been testing since Rocky Mountain Airgun Challenge 2022 and they are wicked good! Ernest from FX USA hot rodded my FX Impact .30 cal to over 150 FPE with the Tungsten Hammer and some other mods to get my rifle over the 140 FPE minimum for the RMAC Magnum Slug event. Traveling to RMAC without knowing what slug I was going to run, but just knowing the rifle had enough UMPH! to qualify for the Magnum Slug event wasn't the best plan of preparation, but I knew Patriot Slugs was bringing some new goodies to use. They turned out to be amazing. I went into the event with just a basic zero and we had to true my ballistic solutions for the magnum slug range event on the fly. Matt used the Element Optics Theos scope and called wind for me as my sniper team partner. Based on splashes and impacts we were able to calculate an accurate ballistic solution for the rest of the event hitting every target once we got it re-calculated.Pro Tip: Don't show up to RMAC to test new stuff the day before competition and try to compete. These 68 grain .30 cal slugs are wicked on small game and will give you the extra FPE at longer ranges with the same high BC that we find with the Javelin .22 40 grain slugs.

This was the video I wanted to publish a few weeks ago when the FX Panthera was first announced, but with over 2 feet of snow here in Northern Michigan and my shooting range inaccessible, I decided to use this down time to dig into what makes this new platform from FX Airguns a revolutionary innovation in our sport. The weather finally broke a bit to do some initial tuning and testing at 50 and 100 yards. Doing this testing in sub freezing temperatures has challenges, but I wanted to get out there and share with you all the new gear I am testing and how the process of tuning a FX Panthera might be slightly different than other PCP airguns. But is the hype real? From what I have experienced so far with this platform.... 100% YES! Go watch Josh’s video from Pursuit of Accuracy on YouTube and the level of precision is already proven over group after group after group. What I wanted to show in this video is the process of that pursuit of accuracy and precision specifically with the FX Panthera and the tuning differences I have found with the short burst valve and the shroud based plenum system. But…. What excites me the most is the DYNAMIC possibilities in this new FX block design! Thus the name. I’ve gotten a lot of questions that I wanted to go over about the new platform. First off…. Yes a DonnyFL FX Suppressor looks perfect with the new outer diameter of the shroud. The end part of the shroud is removable and when you look inside towards the muzzle you’ll find an air stripping device similar to what we have in the FX Impact.With the over-the-barrel shroud plenum removed looking into the Dynamic Block you can see the valve area and how the air flow pathway has been perfected adding to the insane level of efficiency and power potential the industry is always chasing. Moving back to the block with the baracade stand off removed reveals a brass port on the Dynamic Block. Hein mentioned this briefly in the FX video published last week. That plugged port opens up possibilities to even MORE onboard air! But wait, there’s even MORE onboard air potential. In that FX video Hein mentions an adapter for a REAR buttstock bottle too! Looking at how the PRS rear buttstock attaches, you can envision how the modularity and GENIUS of FX reveals itself. So this is just a first look into the guts of the transformative Airgun platform FX just unleashed. My mind is already spinning with all the future options, but what I have in my hand is a PERFECT example of FX’s approach to purpose built designs. With that said, “purpose built” is usually a fancy way of saying something has designed itself into a single purpose use. The FX Dynamic Block is quite the opposite. I’d even venture to say it’s the most MODULAR approach to an Airgun design I’ve ever seen. We are witnessing the golden age of innovation and FX is leading that charge. NEW FX Airguns Impact .35 cal Tensioned Slug Barrel Kit: Defending Airgunner Deer Camp! UpNorthAirGunner | Airgun Hunting 2022-10-28 | This is the barrel kit I have been waiting for from FX Airguns! The .35 cal tensioned slug barrel kit for the FX Impact and Tungsten Hammer pushes this platform up to 190 FPE with higher pressures and heavier slugs and over 150 FPE with the 68 grain FX Hybrids. What is awesome about this new barrel kit is now I can shoot hybrids or solid 81 grain slugs to have massive energy dumping for small to medium sized game or massive penetration with solid slugs for larger game animals. I have done a TON of terminal ballistics testing with the various ammo options with this thing and the results I show in this video will help you decide what to run depending on the game animal you are pursuing. The FX Impact first and foremost is a tool of precision and FX refused to skimp on that fact in the name of raw power. As the FX Impact pushes ever closer to that 200 FPE level, this platform is getting to a point where I would consider Deer hunting with it here in Michigan at 50 yards and closer. I actually started my big bore airgun hunting career with a .35 cals with the Korean made Career Fire 9mm around 150 FPE and the AirForce Texan at 230 FPE with 128 grain Aeromagnum HP slugs. That very first hunting season though I learned some hard lessons about ammo selection. In these power levels I highly suggest going for penetration over expansion of a hollow point. Airgun Deer Hunting: FX Arrow Guns with IV8888 and GRS Rifle Stocks UpNorthAirGunner | Airgun Hunting 2022-10-23 | Airgun Deer Hunting with FX Airguns Arrow Guns during the Georgia primitive hunting season was EPIC! Eric and Chad from IV8888 YouTube Channel had us out to their property for what turned out to be one of the funnest deer camps ever. We set out to continue our research and testing across various power levels to document all the various considerations when hunting with FX Airguns air powered arrow slingers with the FX Dreamline and FX Crown in different power levels. The FX Arrow guns have taken my Deer hunting experiences to an entire new level adding yet another kind of method of take hunting experience under my belt. Georgia got this 100% right in how they set up a primitive hunting season with black powder, archery, crossbows, airguns, and airgun arrows. I wish other states would do the same.This airgun arrow technology is quite old dating back to the 1600s and has been given a legitimate chance of wide spread modern day adoption from innovators like Fredrik Axelsson of FX Airguns. The ability to convert these guns from arrow launchers to precision rifles with a quick barrel swap is what makes these airgun arrow devices the most flexible hunting tools I own. I have big bore airguns that can throw arrows faster, but none of them can do a quick barrel swap to hold sub MOA groups as a rifle. Back in the 1950s and throughout the later part of the 20th Century, Fred Bear and Bear Archery took very old traditional stick and string archery technology and innovated like crazy to help spark what we know today as modern archery. FX Airguns in my mind is doing the same thing today, but taking very old pneumatic technology that dates back hundreds of years ago and innovating like crazy to bring us these amazing hunting tools. In this video we showcase the FX Dreamline which is on the lowest end of power throwing arrows in the velocity and power range of a recurve a low powered 40 pound draw compound bow. We also showcase a bone stock FX Crown which ups the power a bit to be exactly the velocity and power level of my BowTech Carbon Overdrive compound bow with a 60 pound draw. Then we showcase a hot rodded FX Crown with the slug power kit and Tungsten Hammer at 170 bar regulated pressure and now the FX Crown is up to the power of a crossbow and is now slinging arrows exactly as fast as my Wicked Ridge NXT 400 crossbow. The first step in our testing was to analyze flight path and trajectory in the time it takes to get to your target. If you are shooting at a bag, that part doesn't matter all that much as you just can adjust your crossbow scope to have the reticle holds line up with the velocity of your arrow and hold great groups out beyond 50 yards. But what does matter though is the reaction time of the Deer. In archer hunting we call this "jumping the string" or "ducking the shot". A Deer's reaction time is insanely fast and I have seen agitated Deer duck a shot at 30 yards with a crossbow thus sticking that Deer in a less than lethal shot placement. You can't predict what a Deer is going to do though as I have seen them duck very little or not at all. But the Deer's body language can tell you a lot about how they might react and give you some intel as to if you should take a longer shot or not. In this video I was able to document various levels of awareness and agitation and show how the Deer reacted very differently shot to shot. Big Bore Airgun Hunting with the .58 cal AEA Zeus / Mr. Hollow Point Pork Slam 2022 UpNorthAirGunner | Airgun Hunting 2022-10-02 | I've been testing all the different AEA Zeus calibers and configurations this summer and this hunt with Mr. Hollow Point at the 2022 Pork Slam turned out to be one of the most AMAZING big bore airgun hunts I have ever been on. Being able to hang out with Ted Nugent as a guest at his ranch was pretty EPIC, but listening to a private performance of him playing the song Fred Bear acoustically by the campfire is every Michigan Hunters' theme song. In this video I was also able to showcase the EPIC footage you can capture with the new Tactacam 6.0 and Solo Extreme cameras making videoing your hunt insanely easy. Wait till you see the shot on this pig with video recording from many angles. One of my best hunting video captures EVER!The .58 cal Zeus variant is a newer caliber for me to play with and I am finding it could potentially be the PERFECT caliber for close range big game hunting with big bore airguns. In my testing I have found that once you start getting above .457 caliber in big bore airguns you do gain foot pounds of energy, but you start loosing ballistic coefficient quite rapidly. This makes them great tools for 100 yards and closer, but anything beyond that they are plummeting too quickly making the trajectories too loopy. Basically these slugs in these calibers of .50 cal, .58 cal, and .72 cal have the BC of marshmallows, but when they hit meat, it is like hitting an animal with a sledge hammer. Mr. Hollow Point's 520 grain .58 cal slugs expanded PERFECTLY and dropped these animals where they stood. The secret sauce though is adjusting the valve adjuster all the way out and then start shooting and tuning it in until you see the velocity drop just a bit. This research project in partnership with Utah Airguns, FX Airguns, and American Airgunner COMPLETELY changed my mind about broadhead selection when slinging sticks at deer with ANY arrow based hunting tool!This idea of shooting heavy broadheads in the archery sector to increase penetration is nothing new, but there has been renewed interest and a hard look at the results you can get by ditching that typical 100 grain broadhead most of us run. I have dropped a lot of Deer with mechanical broadheads all at 100 grains and when they work - they work great, but when they don't...they don't. Time to test all of the this with the FX Crown MKII Arrow Gun!In the last few years, I have had a few situations that left me scratching my head and have had some issue with a few mechanicals. It only takes one time of gear failure that makes me question everything especially when hunting Deer. Growing up shooting traditional archery and recurve bows in the mid to late 80s, my dad had me slinging pretty large broadheads. He told me that if I shot something lighter it wouldn't penetrate and wound the Deer. So the first few years of slinging sticks with bow and string. I was shooting slow and I mean REALLY slow! As modern archery equipment flooded the market shooting arrows into the 300s and now over 500 feet per second with advanced manufacturing techniques and all kinds of crazy designs, faster and lighter became en vogue. So was everything my dad taught me wrong when switching over to compound bows or crossbows and later on airguns that shot arrows? Nope. The reality is, traditional broadheads aren't sexy. They are large, long, heavy, and sharp. They don't have CNC'd ports that supposedly SUCK the blood out of the Deer as it passes through (yup - there is a broadhead that claims that), they don't have over 2 inches of blades that expand out from the ferrule (there is a reason why they don't), and they don't have any rubber bands to hold back blades. Traditional broadheads just work. To prove this point, I head out with my FX Airguns Crown MKII Airgun to test what my dad taught me back in the mid 80s to see if it still held true even with the most modern arrow slinging equipment.

This right here is the craziest Big Bore Airgun hunt ever for me. That Deer was acting funny the entire time I had my scope on her. After standing up from my morning spot on the ground, I started slowly walking this 2 track and looked behind me. She stared right at me and I was totally caught out in the open and just froze. She kept looking up at me, but seemed to be more concerned with what was behind her. She turned broadside at 70 yards looking the other direction and stomped. I put the crosshairs of my Element Optics Helix 4-16x44 on the high shoulder and sent 385 grains of Mr. Hollowpoint Pure Awesome. She dropped where she stood. I’m using the new Tactacam 6.0 and reviewed the footage as I gave her a few minutes. Right after I pulled the trigger I thought I saw another Deer jump off the trail. Nope! It was Wile E. Coyote stalking his next meal. I beat him to it, but I’ll give him the assist. The next pill is heading his direction though. 😂😂😂

Rifle Barrel Whip: Does it Matter? Nope! UpNorthAirGunner | Airgun Hunting 2022-09-08 | I watch a lot of Airgunners obsess about barrel whip and do all kinds of things like barrel bands to try and cancel out harmonics. You’re not canceling your harmonic signature, so stop trying. As a visual example, this is the most precise centerfire rifle I’ve ever shot and look at the barrel whip. This Tika Tx3 bedded in a GRS Rifle Stock is shooting a 147 grain match load in 6.5 Creedmoor. Much more recoil than an Airgun and it has a MUCH thicker barrel profile than an Airgun. But guess what… it still has very observable barrel whip movement AND it is still shooting with stupid good precision!With that said barrel bands and stiffening methods have their place and that is canceling out droop. Droop is the point of impact difference between unsupported or tensioned and the change when you add a muzzle device like a DonnyFL Suppressor. Supporting or stiffening the barrel will make it droop less, but you still have barrel harmonics. Period. Stiffening and supporting your barrel just changes your harmonic signature and you’ll still have to find that accuracy node. I’ve found a lot of success manipulating my harmonic signature with the FX Barrel Tuners to find accuracy nodes from my precision benchrest pellet FX M3 to my hot rodded slug slinger M3.Stiffening your barrel will change the frequency of your shot to have lower amplitude and higher frequency, but the harmonics are still there. Think of it this way. Tightening a guitar string doesn’t silence the note or deleting the harmonic resonance of the string, it just makes it a higher audible pitch. Same thing with barrel harmonics.
