Marc Fitoussi's comedy pairs Isabelle Huppert, as a background extra called Corinne Maclou, with Sandrine Kiberlain, playing herself. Fitoussi built Corinne out of Huppert's own career: having played Madame Bovary for Claude Chabrol, she now turns up as an extra trying to sell turnips to the Madame Bovary of a new adaptation. Peter Brunner Talks “Down the Arm of God” at the 79th Locarno Film Festival Locarno Film Festival 2026-08-13 | Peter Brunner sat down to discuss “Down the Arm of God”, which world premiered in the Piazza Grande at #Locarno79. He says he would rather have the film on the Piazza than in the competition, because it puts people who are usually invisible in front of the largest audience the festival has. Brunner spent five years researching with non-profits across the United States, and worked with organisations around Amarillo, Texas, so that the film could arrange support for its cast both before and after the shoot. He has been retired for more than a decade, and says the honour surprised him: «I always think of a film festival like this honouring directors and producers and actors, and not the behind the scenes people like me». He recalls working on John Landis's first film, “Schlock”, and how Landis told the entire premise of «An American Werewolf in London” during that shoot. He also relishes the freedom that came with the job: «In the film there's Nazi demons. I go, ‘what's a Nazi demon, John?’. Meritxell Colell Aparicio's third feature follows Adela, a Mexican sound artist and granddaughter of Catalan exiles, who travels from the Peruvian jungle to the Andes to map languages in danger of disappearing. An Interview with Basil Da Cunha on “O Jacaré” at the 79th Locarno Film Festival Locarno Film Festival 2026-08-13 | Basil Da Cunha discusses “O Jacaré”, which world premiered in the Concorso internazionale at #Locarno79. His film is set in Reboleira, the Lisbon neighbourhood built by Cape Verdean immigrants that Da Cunha has been filming for more than fifteen years, following its residents hunting for the 180,000 euros that vanish after a botched robbery. Reboleira is due to be demolished. Da Cunha explains that it was integral for him to permanently record the houses, its walls, its streets and its faces. Rick Baker Receives the Vision Award Ticinomoda | 79th Locarno Film Festival Locarno Film Festival 2026-08-13 | #RickBaker received the Vision Award Ticinomoda in the Piazza Grande at #Locarno79, following Milena Canonero, Ben Burtt, and Ryuichi Sakamoto. He won seven Academy Awards for makeup, among them the first ever given in the category, for “An American Werewolf in London”, which he followed with work runs on “Ed Wood”, “Men in Black”, and Michael Jackson's “Thriller”. Accepting the award, Baker said he decided at ten that he wanted to make monsters for films, and was told for years he would never get in. «In my head I'm still that ten-year-old kid who makes monsters in his bedroom».
