The Most Honest Workbench on YouTube (I mean it this time...) Using Melamine - I Hated this Stuff for Years. I was Wrong. Fixit Fingers 2025-02-14 | I needed to make a Battery Charging Station for work and when it came time to choose the material, I had a revelation. Now, I like to think I am not a judgemental person, but there is one wood-like product I've looked down on since I first picked up a saw. The "Cheap & Nasty Plastic, Sawdust and Glue" that is known as Melamine. I Rejected a dozen Laser Cutters before choosing the xTool S1 Fixit Fingers 2025-01-24 | I do NOT want to start a laser hobby. I want to #woodwork with the precision of a #laserengraver and the speed of a #lasercutter in real wood. Is the #xToolS1 the answer I am looking for? I must get offered a laser ever few weeks. A Decade of DIY Projects that Make a House a Home🏡🔨 Fixit Fingers 2024-11-29 | In the same month as my childhood home was destroyed, I realised my wife and I had been in our own place for 10 years. Over that time, even before the Fixit Fingers Workshop existed, we have been slowly using #diy and later #woodworking to turn our unit into our own mini castle. My daughter has just turned one, and it got me reflecting on how she will look back one day at her childhood and ask mummy and daddy what 'Home' was like before she was born or too young to remember. Learning Lawn Care: Is the Ego Lawn Mower Any Good for a Complete Lawn Newbie? Fixit Fingers 2024-05-28 | This is my 9-month experience with the EGO 56V Brushless 52cm Self-Propelled Mower (LM2135E-SP). It's a review of sorts, but more about sharing my adventures as a lawn novice learning the ropes of both lawn care and the new Ego Mower. Why you ask? Well, last year we fired the gardener who killed our old lawn and we couldn't find a replacement. DIY Baby Change Station Light #NapTimeWoodworking Fixit Fingers 2023-11-24 | When I became a dad two weeks ago I knew my workshop time would be put on the backburner while I spent quality time with my little girl in her nursery. However, as her main interests at the moment are napping, pooping and boobies (not necessarily in that order) I quickly found our new bedroom setup had a fatal flaw. When I try to change said poopy nappies my back blocks the light and I can't see the cute little tooshy well enough to ensure a sparkling clean butt-butt. The Aussie Maker Meetup 2023 Fixit Fingers 2023-11-18 | The 3rd Annual Australian Makers MeetUp was held in Melbourne on October 28th 2023. Hanging a Gate, Building Lockers & Plugging Gaps - The Reality of Handyman Work Fixit Fingers 2023-10-27 | A bit of a real-life look into a fairly typical day on the job for me as a #handyman. As opposed to the licenced trades, you need to be flexible and tackle a variety of tasks. This site will eventually be a cafe and the client had a long list of tasks for me to try to get through over 2 days working there. The highlights were fitting and hanging a gate and building and installing a set of lockers. My good friend Mr Phil @graduallywizardly has issued a challenge... "Build something you could not have made 5 years ago." As I will celebrate my 5 years in the workshop next week, this could not have been better timed. Like a lot of us, I am terrible at getting rid of scraps, especially if they are hardwood. Philips All in One Pressure Cooker - Repairing a Broken Handle Fixit Fingers 2023-09-08 | Did the handle come off your Philips Pressure Cooker? Well this is _ @FixitFingers _ so let's actually fix something between woodworking projects! The handle on our Philips All-in-One Cooker popped off one day. Turns out they used zinc screws and they had rusted away. It Took Me 11 Months to Roll a Dice - Epic Wooden Dice Tower Build for #OffcutsOnly23 Fixit Fingers 2023-08-24 | When I am not #woodworking I am often playing #dungeonsanddragons instead. Over the best part of the last year, I have been combining those two loves. I wanted a one-of-a-kind handmade wooden dice tower for my weekly D&D game, and dove in with no plan and little clue knocking out the cool spiral staircase rolling mechanism. Then life happened, the side hustle and sponsored videos took priority, and the poor DIY dice tower project languished in the corner of the workshop gathering dust. I Travelled the World Teaching Forensic Science, Now I Build the Equipment Fixit Fingers 2023-07-14 | For over a decade I worked for a science #education company called Education Interactive, based on Sydney's Northern Beaches. I travelled around Australia, the UK & Ireland teaching high school students about how the Forensic Science they loved to watch on TV, was actually just chemistry, physics and biology, so perhaps they should consider studying those subjects. I would go on to manage the company for a number of years, and use my education in #forensics to design three more workshops, including two for Primary Schools. Before I left the role, I had only one regret.... that I never got to physically build a set of the equipment. I decided to try out the Dulux Concrete and Paver Heavy Duty Coating System so I will provide a quick review of my first impressions of that product as well as how I masked up the stairs and applied paving paint. If I can I'll follow up to see how it holds up after a year later on down the track. I would have preferred to use the Step 2 Primer as well but for cost considerations, we went straight to the top coat. If you have a kitchen, laundry, closet, wardrobe or bathroom #DIY renovation or repair to do, chances are your cabinetry will have melamine shelves at least. In this Fixit Fingers Fiver, I'll take you through some #woodworking tips and tricks on how to work with this plastic-coated board, as cutting and drilling melamine without chipping out can be tricky. Restoring Teak Garden Benches (with help from the EcoFlow Delta) Fixit Fingers 2023-04-05 | First up, please keep in mind this is not a "How to Perfectly Restore Outside Furniture" video, though I hope you get a lot of tips and ideas to assist with your own furniture restoration or outdoor furniture repair projects. This was client work and done to a budget, with the goal of giving another 5-10 years of life before such work needs to be done again. There are a lot of extra steps I could take but this would have added a lot of time and therefore expense, so take this as a guide to a "Practical" #woodworking #restoration for a budget ;) I'll show you how I prepare, clean, sand, repair, stain and protect six rather expensive solid teak wooden benches for an apartment complex in Sydney.
