Our film crew spent months meticulously observing the behaviors of the world’s rarest and most endangered species struggling to adapt to a changing environment. This is their story.What is Wild Edens?Wild Edens is an ambitious project aimed at increasing public awareness of the environment, global warming, climate change and the threat it poses to the global ecosystem. Amazing experience Wild Edens 2018-08-10 | KamchatkaRussia’s major peninsula in the Pacific Ocean is part of that Ocean’s Ring of Fire and home to a multitude of volcanoes, geysers and mountains. It’s also one of the most isolated and best places to spot brown bears. The crew travelled an hour by helicopter from the local capital (Petro-Pavlovsk) to a campsite where they spent 10 days…and it was worth the trip. The bears were so focused on hunting salmon that they barely noticed the humans at all.
Most amazing location Wild Edens 2018-08-10 | Altai MountainsThe Altai Mountain range can be found near the borders of China, Kazakhstan, Mongolia and Russia and translates roughly as “Golden Mountain” from the Mongolian language. The range’s highest summit stands at 4,506 meters and gives origins to several glaciers. Many wild species are endemic to the area, but the crew came to film golden eagles. The birds are some of the aviary world’s largest and most adroit hunters, with diving speeds reaching 320 kilometers per hour and wingspans often exceeding two meters in length.
What was most memorable location? Wild Edens 2018-08-10 | Far EastRussia’s Far Eastern Federal District spans an area of over 6 million square kilometers (including the above-mentioned Kamchatka Peninsula), but the crew also focused on its southern frontiers near the city of Vladivostok to capture a very unique type of turtle. The Amur softshell turtle, also known as the Chinese Trionyx, has three claws on each paw (hence its Latin name Trionyx (the word onix stands for claw)). Its shell is soft and its body is covered by a leathery carapace. The softshell turtles have an elongated proboscis and a highly developed jaw, with large and very sharp teeth that can cause considerable damage, which partially explains their aggressive behavior in nature.

Whereas average temperatures exceeded pre-industrial levels by 1C in 2015, the Arctic exceeded that baseline by 2C as early as the 1995-2005 decade. The Arctic is the canary in the coalmine so far as man-made climate change is concerned.Arctic melting will be an ecological catastrophe that will extend far beyond just the well publicized doom of the polar bears. Permafrost melting will cause massive infrastructure damage in the Far North.
