Many believe that it borrows heavily from the surrounding pagan nations of the Ancient Near East (ANE). Generally speaking, they are unsure about the reality of Moses or how much he may have contributed to the books which bear his name.Despite widespread unbelief among the men and women who control the philosophy and direction of Bible scholarship, advocates like Mark Ward demand that Bible believers bow before these scholars and give them the final word on important subjects like these. Modern scholarship has destroyed the faith of untold numbers of people. Spiritually speaking, this is a great error. We do not know the Lord through scholarship. If we know the Lord, we know Him through His word and through His son Jesus Christ. The first thing we should know about Him is that He is a God who cannot lie. His word cannot be a mixture of eternal truth, pagan ideas and mythology. Those who believe and teach these things, and those who recommend this type of scholarship are deceived and deceiving others. We have seen in scripture how God treats those who challenge the authority of Moses, like Korah, Dathan and Abiram in Numbers 16. God killed the leaders of the rebellion by having the earth open up and swallow them. Those who were following them were burned alive and those who defended them were killed by a plague. Every one who was involved in any way was destroyed. Calling Moses mythical is no different than Korah challenging Moses' calling and authority. Those who supported Korah found out the price of being on the wrong side of the issue. Fortunately, there is much in the Pentateuch which proves that Moses was no myth.
