Latest Dutch Traffic Statistics (2024) BicycleDutch 2024-03-05 | [Ep. 1020] The latest Dutch traffic statistics became available. While people cycle more, there were also many more cyclists fatalities in traffic in 2022 (the latest year for which figures are available). The majority of those people were killed by drivers of motor vehicles. Although the Netherlands is still one of the safest countries to cycle in, relatively, the absolute figures do require action. Im Jahre 2018 wurde die Straße namens "Oudkerkhof" schon mal umgebaut, um Fußgänger und Radfahrer mehr Platz zu bieten. Im Ende war der Erfolg ein Wenig enttäuschend. Utrecht closed this street to motor traffic, twice! In the before situation (2017) it was still open to private cars. After a reconstruction that was finished in 2018 was supposed to be a better place for walking but cars were still allowed. However, on 1 August 2022, it was finally officially made car free. Only one parking spot remained, for a resident with disabilities. I failed the traffic test that I passed as a child BicycleDutch 2023-10-31 | [Ep. 1010] In the spring of 1977 I passed my traffic exam as an 11-year-old. 46 years later I tried to ride the exact same route in Utrecht (NL) but part of it is in pedestrian zones now. Clearly a reason to fail the test. Just how much Utrecht changed can be seen in this video.
