If you are just starting out if you are afraid to start because of the quality of your podcast or of your video remember that quality is not fundamental. When you’re debating quality vs quantity, the answer is always both. But remember the message, the value, you want to share is more important and it will be always more important than how you say it or how you film it. People are often worrying too much about how they look in a video, how they sound, the word they are saying. all of these factors matter but they should not stop you or slow you to create content.

Breaking paradigms takes some doing, but it can be done. In my podcast interview with Bob Proctor, he shares some paradigm shift examples and explains how changing your paradigm can change your life.
Paradigms control behavior, and paradigms live in your subconscious mind. You have to change subconsciously to make real progress. And when you change your paradigm, everything changes – your income, relationships, and health.
Think about conversations between parents and teenagers, or between managers and employees. When managers want to employees to correct behaviors, they can cajole and admonish all they want – but breaking paradigms doesn’t happen by talking about them.
You can copy someone or work from a script, but you won’t get favorable results unless you internalize behavioral change. Everything depends on what comes from within.
Bob offers some paradigm shift examples and talks about how changing his own paradigm led to his business success. In one year, he went from earning $4,000 to $175,000. He realized his success had to do with his paradigm, and he’s been studying paradigms ever since.
If you want to be rich, you have to understand that you don’t get rich by doing certain things – you get rich by doing things in a certain way. And the way you do things stems from your paradigm, which is embedded in your subconscious.
Let’s say you have a bad habit of being late. To change your paradigm, replace negative behavior with the opposite behavior, and form a new habit. Repetition of the right idea causes it to take root in your subconscious mind.

If only you could perfect the art of reading minds, you could understand and influence everyone you meet. In my interview with Vanessa Van Edwards, we talk about doing just that. Vanessa knows how to read a person like a book. By studying body language and facial expressions, she’s able to quickly determine where a person stands.
Vanessa investigates human behavior at her research lab, the Science of People. She is a professional people watcher and has spent years studying what our outside appearance says about what’s going on inside our brain. One tidbit Vanessa shares during our talk is that people who’ve had Botox injections in their faces (and so can’t smile as broadly) feel less happy.
What’s the value in getting good at the art of reading minds? When you’re able to read another person, it helps you form relationships, because you’re in tune with how other people feel about you from the get-go. Being good at reading people also helps you detect lies and call people out when you need to. And knowing what people are thinking gives you social advantage – you’re always able to be the most memorable person at an event.
Here's how to read a person like a book: If you’re with someone and you want to tap into how they feel, mimic what they’re doing with their face. Arrange your face like theirs, and copy their exact expressions, posture, and demeanor. See what emotions rise up in you. This is a great empathy exercise to really get inside someone’s head – a tool for mastering the art of reading minds.
In this interview with Gay Hendricks, we talk about how so many of us struggle with an upper limit problem. We fail to reach our full potential because we believe our ability to succeed is limited – that we can only go so high. But you CAN surpass your upper limit by discovering your zone of genius.
Strangely enough, people often fear success. We’re afraid of being judged, or we don’t like the idea of outshining others. As a result, we subconsciously sabotage ourselves and self-imposed upper limits to our success.
It’s easy to recognize the upper limit problem in yourself. Think about times you’ve tried to get fit or eat right, only to give up after a few days. We do the same thing in relationships – we’re afraid of losing love, so we put limits on it. There’s a certain comfort in failing, and we get stuck in our comfort zones.
Most people build comfort zones that are underneath their zone of genius. When we raise our heads up past our upper limit, it can be jarring. We may think, “Yes, that’s what I want,” but it’s another thing to step in and take it. We’re frightened by our own magnificence.

What makes a person successful? In this podcast episode with Brad Lea, we talk about Brad’s belief that there are five things you absolutely have to do in order to succeed. He also stresses the importance of first answering these questions: What do you really want? What does success look like to you?
Brad describes what makes a person successful – what actions and attitudes are crucial for achieving goals and getting great results. You need to:
1. Take a chance.
2. Solve your problems. Don’t ignore or run from them. View them as puzzles to be solved or games to be won.
3. Adjust and improve.
4. Train your ass off. Read about, watch, and listen to people who’ve already done what you’re trying to do. The more you learn, the more you earn.
5. Never give up – be committed.
Before you can go after what you want, you have to figure out exactly what that is. You may discover that deciding what it is you really want is actually harder than getting it.
Ask yourself what makes you happy. What can you achieve to make yourself feel fulfilled? What does success look like to you? Brad points to a play on words: There’s no key to success; rather, it’s a combination lock with any number of codes. What’s right for me is different from what’s right for you.

My most enjoyable interviews as a podcast host happen when I’m on the same wavelength as my guest. In this Alexi Panos interview, we talk about being in flow mode, working in the zone, doing our thing – and helping others shine at the same time.
Alexi describes what it’s like when she and her husband Preston Smiles record their Partners In Shine videos. She talks about how they’ve been practicing flow and living in a high vibe state. They frequently find themselves in flow mode, now that it’s easier to tap into. Instead of planning out their videos, they’ll often just go for it and record videos on the spot as ideas come.
If I learned anything from this Alexi Panos interview, it’s that she knows how to be in flow state. Watch some Partners In Shine videos, and you’ll see that whether Alexi and Preston are talking to each other or fielding viewer comments, their interaction is seamless and natural.
Alexi says she can sense when Preston is tapping his brakes, and that’s when she presses her gas pedal. They operate on the same wavelength, so they understand when to toss each other the ball. They know what the other will say before anything is said.
Just as Alexi and Preston work well together, a whole group of people can tap into the same energy and work in sync. We see this with athletic teams. When team members are on the same wavelength, they intuitively know, “Okay, I’m up; it’s my turn now.” They’re fully aware and in tune with one another.

If you want to make money from your content, you need to treat it like any other business. Building your brand means learning how to find your target audience online and figuring out how to reach them. Who is your target market? Be specific about who you want to communicate with. Research their interests and their habits. Find out who they’re listening to – who the influencers are in this niche.
Now that you’ve begun your market research, you’ve taken the first step towards learning how to promote a podcast. Once you know who your target audience is, work towards discovering where they hang out. If you want to know how to find your target audience online, get inside their heads and observe how they think and feel.
Imagine that you’re a member of your target audience – what are you doing right now? What kind of social media websites are you visiting? Younger people would be on Instagram and Snapchat. Older, corporate-minded types are probably on LinkedIn and Facebook.
Now that you’ve identified your marketing channels, filter out the noise and find your demographic. You don’t want to get too specific at first – cast your net as wide as you can. Having just visited the amazing La Lastra winery in Siena, Tuscany, I’ve been contemplating the idea of building momentum for your growth. It is a simple idea that I too often overlook – the idea that we should focus on what works. And it is an especially important notion now, as the end of the calendar year approaches.
Christian, who gave us a great tour of the winery, mentioned that when they prepare for the end of the year after the last harvest, they remove most grape branches from the vineyard. What they do, however, is they pick the few strongest branches and they keep them. And those few best branches are the ones that they use for the next year’s batch.
I found this to be really fascinating as it directly correlates to business growth as well. Building momentum for your growth, particularly around the end and the start of the year, is very important for our overall success. It’s not an easy process as it involves shedding all the unnecessary branches – everything we do that isn’t optimal for our goals and that doesn’t improve our momentum. To focus on what works we need to only keep a few key things in our lives and that requires a great deal of self discipline. However, it is a great way to achieve high performance and reach the success that you maybe hope to achieve next year.
To focus on what works we often have to say ‘No’ to a lot of things we’d rather keep in our lives. So I’m not saying that it is something everyone should do all the time. In the interview, James goes over his own experience as an entrepreneur, what he’s done to make the JamesClear.com website a success, as well as a lot of what he aimed for when he authored the Atomic Habits.
James goes into great detail about how his life purpose changed over the years and how he moved from being a goal-oriented person to focusing more on the process of self-improvement. He describes himself as someone who’s curious in nature and focuses on learning as much as possible on a lot of different subjects.
It was quite special to finally conduct this James Clear interview and ask him about his own areas of personal growth and what he does to build atomic habits in his own life. And it was very refreshing to see that he himself lives up to his own advice. In his book, as well as in our interview, James talks about how identity is vital for forging habits, but also how our habits create our identity. He emphasizes how we tend to use our habits to get a sense of our own selves.
He also goes on to explain how starting with even the smallest change in your habits you can get yourself on the right track and you can control the development of your future self. He points out that we don’t have to “fake it till we make it” but we can instead start making it so that we can become someone who is making it. Essentially, we are what we repeatedly do.
It may not be easy to build atomic habits when you look at the whole process from afar, but making each individual act every day, slowly removing bad habits and establishing good habits – these things are easy in and of themselves. You don’t need to have mastered or even identified all your areas of personal growth yet to start your self help process – you just need to start doing a little something every day and watch it grow into something big.

What should your podcast be about? In order to make your podcast content ideas work, finding your podcast subject is the first and most important step.
There may be a lot of topic ideas that you can talk about but before you start a podcast you need to come up with ideas that aren’t unique just to the podcasting world. They need to correspond to your unique abilities as well. As we discussed with strategic coach Julia Waller, the founder of the Unique Ability 2.0 series on Discovery, before you do anything you need to find your “special sauce”. You need to find the one activity you can see yourself doing for years and enjoy improving on.
What’s more, however, you need to also have a certain amount of expertise in what you’re talking about. You may love doing something but if you have nothing of value to share on it, it wouldn’t make for a good podcast.
Essentially, good podcast content ideas exist in the intersection between your “unique abilities” and what you are an “expert” in. And don’t let the word “expert” scare you – it’s just a broad term. You don’t need to be an actual expert with a doctorate in something to teach it to others, as long as you have enough insight and know-how to pass onto others. Finding your podcast subject exists in the combination of those two things.
Of course, that’s not all that goes into crafting good podcast content ideas. While you’re finding your podcast subject you should also make sure that it can be a part of an ongoing conversation. If it’s something small that can get exhausted quickly in just a couple of episodes, then it won’t be enough to establish your personal brand. A good podcast idea to have on your show may need to be broader and encompass multiple other ideas. It needs to have the potential for growth and development so that it gives you a lot of material for content.
There’s much more that goes into podcasting, of course. Coming up with interesting and unique topic ideas isn’t the be-all and end-all of podcasting.

You’ll see lots of people out there trying to give advice about “the perfect podcast length.” The truth is, it all hinges on the type of show you're looking to build. Making great content to listen to depends on picking a length that suits your listeners, your topic, and your individual personality.
I’ve found that talks, keynotes, and interviews can last anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours without losing my audience. For episodes like this one, where I’m giving how-to advice, I keep it short and sweet – get on, give the information, and get off. So how long should a podcast be? How long does it need to be?
You should get to know your audience really well. For instance, here in North America where I’m based, the average commute to work is about 25 minutes. That’s a great length to target. People can listen to you on their way to work. You can slot right into their daily lives. If they like your content you can build repeat viewers just because you hit that sweet spot time-wise.
The most important thing when it comes to making great content to listen to is that you’re concerned with the value that you're giving, not the length of the podcast. How long should a podcast be? It should be long enough to cover the subject, but short enough to pique your viewers’ interest. The perfect podcast length is a moving target and, if you know your brand well, you’ll be able to hit it.

Sure, you do it because it’s your passion, but you want to connect with people too. In this video, I’ll share my top 3 tips on how to set up your podcast and get the attention you deserve.
Let’s start at the very beginning: Make your launch as effective as possible. Try to get into the top 100 or 200 on the charts in your niche. Make sure to choose the relevant category – it should fit your subject and personality to a T. Your podcast ranks according to the number of subscriptions you have in the first 24 to 48 hours, so leverage everything you have to get it started. Use all your social media savvy to give your new baby the best start in life.
The second strategy towards getting your podcast noticed is to interview some great guests. Pick people who are already established and share your values. They’ll want to help you and it’s a win/win for both you. You’re helping them promote their message, and they’re introducing you to a wider audience.
Tip number 3 is to get your guests to share your work. Not the whole podcast necessarily. That would be great, but you don’t want to come across as pushy and self-promoting. Just pick a story or a quote from the interview that you found particularly good, and ask them to share it on their social media. Most people are flattered. Don’t expect everyone to share – these are busy people after all – but it never hurts to ask.
